Upon coming here, a current customer told us this is the best Turkish food in town. She was not joking! I ordered a doner bowl and my friend ordered the kebab skewers entree. We absolutely loved it: the buttery flavored rice, well seasoned meat, nice salad on side that comes with and a pita bread to top it off. Although we were so full, had to try the baklava: fresh and crispy, hands down the best I've ever had due to not being so sweet. Finally someone answered my prayers about not making them too sweet. A little diner that turned out to be Turkish cuisine, family owned. Didn't know what to order, so upon the staff recommendation we had Beyti, chicken kebab, chicken wrap, and baklava. We got the the muma feast, and that thing can feed a group of 4. Had dinner last night here with my cousin, The place was empty .We asked the old man who was there if they are opened and he said yes so we sat in . He was rude to us and ignorant . We made our order and respectfully left our table to another group of older clients who stepped in ( one of them was using a walking stick ) as the table next to us was full of playing cards and other tables were way far in the front section for them to walk .we didn't wanted them to stand and wait until he clears the table . The food came in -to go - paper plates and with a plastic forks inside a plastic bags ! But why? We were dining in ! Food was average ( and salty ) . Baklava looked good in the tray so I decided to try it , Very disappointing the top was hard but the bottom layers were SUPER mushy , chewy and drowned in syrup.. When I checked in I've received a Yelp voucher for a free Turkish tea but the man said they don't have tea lol ! No one has visited our table after that . We waited to then went ourselves to the cashier to pay and the man behind the counter had a problem with his system. We waited for sometime then offered him to pay in cash , he said ok but didn't had a change for our $100. My cousin went out and tried to break it with no results. Friends in from out of town, and one was from Turkey. He suggested this place. DO NOT make my initial mistake of seeing the cracked plastic of the menu pages, the very small size of the interior, or all the empty cooler cases, and thinking you'd be better off anywhere else. Seems they mostly do take-out. The food is plentiful and very delicious!! Everything is made fresh. Started with dolmas and some hummus/pita for the table. The dolmas was wonderfully moist - not dry. Hummus was excellent. I then had the lamb skewer - served on a bed of rice with a nice little side salad. All in a plastic to-go container. I'm not taking off points for any lack of presentation - you don't even notice it once you start eating. After that, even though we were all stuffed, we had to have the baklava. We had to wait a few minutes since a new batch was being made fresh. I learned that Turkish baklava generally used pistachios and had a sweet syrup (sugar water?) drizzled all over it, while the Greek version often used walnuts and was made with honey. This was definitely Turkish - perfectly flakey crust, warm from the oven, sweet and gooey. And a huge piece for each of us! The husband and wife running the place could not be more kind. They obviously love what they do. And my Turkish friend had a great time speaking to the husband in their native language. Ignore the divey atmosphere - this is perfect for foodies! read more

Since I eat this food at home, I don't eat Mediterranean food from restaurants very often. As a result, a restaurant has to look pretty good in order for me to try it. Muma Kitchen definitely had that appeal, so I chose to meet a friend here for dinner. They have a little parking lot in the back with spots specifically for their customers, so parking was very easy. I ordered at the table they set up by the door and then had a seat outside. Our food came out pretty soon after. I went with the Veggie Plate since I wasn't feeling super hungry. Everything on it was delicious. My favorite part was definitely the eggplant dip. The woman working was so friendly and came to check on us very often. I will definitely be back! read more

I consider myself a kind and generous yelper, but I have to be honest and admit that I wasn't feeling this meal at all. And I was pretty hungry by time the meal was delivered so to be underwhelmed in a vicious state of hunger really says something coming from me. I ordered the salmon kabob plate and the hummus. The salad was lightly dressed in an oil based something or other and wasn't bad but was definitely soggy. If I'd known they dressed the salad before serving it, I would have specified to leave the dressing on the side. The greens lost any crispness they may have had. Once the salad was cleared from the plate, I dug into the salmon. Again- not bad but not quite enjoyable. It was border-lining on dry and was under seasoned for sure. To keep my salmon company, I decided to get a side of hummus. The hummus was on par with everything else so far... fine. It was underwhelming. It was runny and the seasoning used wasn't my favorite blend. But what really bugged me about the side of hummus was the ONE sorry pita that they sent with it. Like, the hummus portion was quite generous which is nice. But ONE pita?! For like 8 ounces of hummus?! Every other Mediterranean restaurant practically sends ya a Halloween pillowcase portion of the stuff. It's the equivalent of Olive Garden bread sticks. Come on! I find a lot of fault with that. Unforgivable. Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't share the one redeeming quality this meal had to offer. The rice. It was honestly the best portion of rice I've ever had. Iskender Kebab tastes somewhat like spaghetti and meatballs, just spaghetti replaced with pita bread (i believe). The beef is cut up doner-style instead of a ball. They include rice, a few slices of yellow peppers (I think it's banana peppers)&yogurt Beyti kebab plate is ground beef stuffed in I believe a bread. Pretty tasty. A bit sour, but it's flavorful. Omg I cannot say enough great things about Muma Kitchen!!! I needed late night catering for an event but it was a difficult order and each meal needed to be packaged individually. Esin, who couldn't be nicer, helped me out and made sure order was right. I took a lot of her time and had so many questions and she was not only patient with me but so so sweet. They did the delivery late night (10:30pm) and were on time, and so nice. Best part... the food was delicious!!!!! We had ordered the chicken plates and falafel plates for the vegans in the group. I didn't try the falafel but those who ate it kept saying how amazing it was and were fighting to take home the leftovers (I ordered too many). The falafel is gluten free too... yay! Recently came to Muma Kitchen after a friend recommended it. The restaurant itself is very nice and clean. Dim lighting, nice décor. We did not have a reservation but were quickly seated by our server Sevil. Everything on the menu sounded more delicious than the next. While we we were deciding we were brought an appetizer of pita and tzatziki sauce (so good). For my meal I ordered the doner plate (without rice, or pita, a great keto diet option!) and my husband ordered the Iskender kabob plate. We were both very pleased with our meals. The doner meat is really flavorful and the spicy tomato sauce went with it just perfectly. Our friends ordered the Zuma Feast to share and it looked so tasty and was a nice portion. We also ordered Ayran which is an amazing yogurt drink. So tasty. Our server Sevil was so attentive and always made sure we had what we needed. It's a mixed bag at this restaurant. The service is excellent--the server was the nicest guy--very accommodating, pleasant. The prices for the Chicken Kabob Dinner at 10.00 is reasonable. The rice is the best you will ever have. I don't know what they put in it! But the main dish--the Chicken was not very good. It had a bad smell and bad aftertaste. Not a I'm going to get sick taste, but not a consistency and flavor and taste that I want to repeat. The salad is iceberg and OK, but not the best--I prefer better greens. The owners were there--they are old and the man sits and reads, the wife gets up periodically and helps. Both don't look at you or say hello--it may be regional, but I don't like it. If the chicken was better I would come back, but I have had better Chicken Kabob elsewhere. At the table next to us, was a group of guys eating fish. So I asked the waiter if that is a special--I don't see it on the menu. He says it's not on the menu, they speak the language, it's a traditional dinner and they called in a couple of days ago and ordered it. Food + I ordered the Adana kebab here, which was pretty good and I liked the way the meat was spiced. and we also got a veggie platter which was decent if you want to sample all their sides. the tea is also good! - It is a bit on the pricier side here being in Westwood, and the yogurt drink was just that. with extra salt. baklava was pretty standard here too. Atmosphere + It's a nice place to sit and eat, the seats are all cushioned and they got some interesting signs that say zuma kitchen in there that make it novel to other places. - It was pretty quiet when we got in there, not sure if it was an off night or if everyone orders to go. Writing this review is very frustrating because there was so many goods to this dinner. UGH! So the food is great. I for the Kofte Plate ($13 including tax and tip), which came with 5 sausage patties, rice (with garbanzo beans), salad, chili and tzatziki sauce. I devoured the entire plate. The patties were full of flavor, moist, and have a bite to it. Not sure how to explain the flavor but it was full of spice and extremely tasty. The rice was great as well. Perfectly cooked with flavorings from the garbanzo beans and mixed in oil. The food was probably one of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. So the reason for the 3 star rating was the service. We were seated and we ordered shortly after but started waiting for 25 minutes for our food before we decided to rush the server. It seemed that our order had totally been lost. OK, it happens, that's fine. I wouldn't fault them for that but what made us so perturbed was that other people that had come way after us and had ordered way after us got their food before us!! What kind of system is this? Shouldn't our order been bumped up since we technically ordered first? So after waiting 50 minutes, we finally got our food. I don't agree with the system and I feel Zuma also suffers from a huge number of take out orders. The food makes up the horrendous service but I might just call in my order next time. Another tip is to not sit near the windows near the front due to the dust pouring in from the streets and making the plates pretty filthy. Choose a table inside!
