We stumbled upon the spot while staying at the Hilton riverside hotel. It was very convenient to walk to from there, and it ran parallel to the Riverwalk. When we walked in the space was huge and there was a side deco band, playing at the front of the space. There's a dancing area, and there are a few couples up. We had some amazing drinks. Both were beautiful and delicious. I think I still dream of that virgin island painkiller. We were advised to get the corn bread which was completely on point. The honey butter, and the texture of the cornbread made it a delicious starter. We also tried to brave a new food by getting blackened gator bites, and frog legs. To our surprise... We are now obsessed with frog legs. for dinner, we got a decent jambalaya, but I wouldn't go back to order just that. Desert consisted of a pretty fantastic bread pudding. Overall, this place definitely isn't a higher tourist area but I think it does give a pretty relevant snapshot of a New Orleans experience for someone with limited time or staying directly in that area. read more

Very old restaurant right across the street from the convention center. It listed itself as the original Cajun restaurant. It has a very cool Louisiana feel and music playing. They do have an area up in front that does sell gear shirts, etc. Our waitress was incredibly friendly. She was very helpful talking us through some of the food options as well as just being a cheerful fun server. We first ordered alligator bites, this is the first time I've ever had alligator and it was chewy but I had a good taste and really good breading. Then for our main course, we had i'll be taking off gumbo, with shrimp. It was excellent a great taste well spice an excellent bite and loaded down with vegetables and shrimp. We also had a jambalaya which my son said was incredibly good. In addition, we had pot roast mashed potatoes and grilled corn. It's probably some of the best pot roast I've ever had in my life. The mashed potatoes were plain, but with a perfect addition to an incredibly flavorful roast. The corn was a little dry. But gave a bite to the food. We also had a couple drinks the New Orleans standard hurricane. It was really very sweet. Tasted a lot like Hawaii and punch, but still good. and also an old-fashioned, which was not very strong, but had a nice balance of tastes. read more

This place actually ended up being pretty good. It's right across from the convention center. So after popping by to pick up our badges, we meandered across the street and checked it out. It's really large inside and there's lots of seating but it's also very busy and it seemed like it was busy most of the time we were there through many days. They also had a live band which I think they do every evening. Anyway I had the taste of New Orleans food and it came with all of the staples like the red beans and the shrimp etoufee. It actually was really good! It was one of the cheaper things on the menu at $15.00 but it was enough food for me considering I had probably eaten enough that day already. They had bigger items though that were a bit more expensive. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is crazy busy and filled with many people and all the wait staff have to focus on many different people. But overall it was a great experience and would definitely return. It's not what I would say a locals kind of place but definitely for the tourists. You know what you're going to get. Not bad at all and I would definitely return! read more

We went in between 7 and 8 on a Wednesday. We were seated right away by a really friendly guy. Our server, Jason, came by to ask us about drinks. He was a really nice guy and very patient with us in ordering. There's just a lot to choose from. He gave several recommendations and was honest about what other customers like and don't like. We settled on sharing the grilled seafood platter. Everything was great! I don't typically like green beans at restaurants, but instead of being washed in bacon grease and soggy bacon these had crispy real crumbled bacon on top. The seafood was all perfectly seasoned. My only complaint was that the meal didn't include a full piece of catfish but a filet that seemed to have been cut in half. The restaurant is spacious inside with large dance floor in the middle. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who knows her food so I made reservations to eat there on my first trip to NOLA. I love having the local cuisine and wanted Cajun food. I liked the vibe inside the restaurant. It's a big, bright hall with a stage at one end that had a live band. We were on the other end of the hall and could hear the music but couldn't see the band. I wasn't terribly hungry and, after looking at the prices, opted to just order an entree, which is normally enough for me anyway. I ordered the stuffed shrimp and my BF got the catfish. I was pretty disappointed at the portions. I would equate mine to an appetizer portion-only 4 shrimp for $29. They were delicious and generously stuffed, but come on! They only came with a mound of garlic mashed potatoes (that were luke warm), too. The food was very tasty, I just wished they had given me a bit more. Maybe add some veggies? Or cornbread? The catfish was small, too, and had tiny sides of green beans and garlic mashed. The drinks were good. My BF had a rum punch and I had an amber beer, but the server forgot about it and finally brought it out when I was half done with dinner. She was a great server and super nice but had a huge number of tables and was doing her best. Was in New Orleans for a conference, and someone on the team coordinated a dinner here. This is one of the few places in the area that can accommodate a large group, which was the primary reason this place was chosen. The service was very accommodating, even as more people showed up, some almost 45 minutes late. The drinks were strong and flowing, as you would expect in New Orleans. However, the food left much to be desired. In a place known for its good eats, there are much better places to go nearby. An inconspicuous and unassuming entrance; if you have trouble looking for it, the entrance is literally on the corner! It opens to a pretty large, high-ceiling interior however, and the restaurant really does seem to reflect the New Orleans vibe in appearance. I ordered: * Grilled Chicken Pasta - Alfredo pasta with slices of grilled chicken on top. I generally love Alfredo, but this dish was fairly disappointing. The chicken was dry, the Alfredo was watered down, and the pasta didn't have much taste. Granted, this isn't one of the restaurants specialties, so that's important to keep in mind. Perhaps there are other dishes more worthwhile! My friends ordered a fried chicken sandwich and fried shrimp, but they seemed to not enjoy their food much either, with most of us not finishing. The saving grace for this restaurant is its proximity to the convention center -- just across the street! If you're in a rush, these folks are fairly fast. This place has been on my radar for years and years because not only do they serve local cuisines but also have Cajun music and dancing in the evenings so I always thought that would be something fun to do. We ended stopping by here in mid-day after touring the Navy aircraft carrier during NOLA Navy Week April 2018... so no music and dancing... and the place was mostly empty on a Fri afternoon. I was exhausted after touring ships since early morning, so I need to sit down and have a drink, so we sat at the bar. My guess is that this place is always so full of tourists that no one really cares about true service. I also needed food but the prices were outrageous... tourist trap. We ended up getting the meat pie appetizers, six to a plate. They were decent enough. Pastry was hard but the filling was tasty enough to make up for the crust. I visited this restaurant a couple of days ago before I went to the Convention Center for Essence Fest 2023. My sister ordered the fish sticks and my cousin ordered the cornbread. Both of the appetizers were delicious. I enjoyed my Shrimp Po Boy and the fries. Everything was very tasty and the server Celina was very nice and attentive. She had excellent customer service skills. The restaurant wasn't noisy and the music that was playing was nice. I would definitely visit this restaurant again when I'm in New Orleans. Not a long line like most places. It was very spacious so there were plenty of seating. Staff took care of us right away. My waitress was a sweetheart. We ordered the oysters and they were so good! I got the stuffed shrimp and they were ok. Shrimp was a little over cooked but it wasn't too bad. All in all it was a good experience for my first time so I'll definitely be back. read more

I arrived in a party of four, an hour or so prior to close on a Tuesday evening. We were greeted and seated promptly. Live music was playing, providing a very pleasant atmosphere. Service was well above average--no complaints there. I ordered the $26 grilled shrimp entree, offered with solely a side of street corn. This consisted of 10 medium shrimp and a smallish ear of roasted corn. I know it's downtown NOLA, but I though the portion size was lacking, considering the price. The flavor was adequate, but not outstanding to the degree that it compensated for the small portion size. I was almost forced to go here by a recommendation of someone I knew. Like...go or you're a bad person. (eye roll). Anyway, it was so talked up (and against a fair number of other well renowned places) I had really high expectations and was looking forward to dinner. I made sure I was hungry! Needless to say it was an epic let down. Firstly, it was SO loud I could barely have a conversation with the person a foot away from me. There was a young girls convention for basketball and it was packed with screaming preteens who had what appeared to be zero supervision. Coupled with this, there was also live music, to which we were unhappily surrounded by cacophony. Secondly, our server (didn't get the chance to get his name) was to our table and out so fast, it was disconcerting. No chatting, no friendly greeting, no welcome whatsoever. He didn't once ask if we wanted anything else, or take the time to actually LOOK at us to see if we were satisfied. He asked if the food was ok and was gone before we could utter a real reply. Thirdly, (and understand this place is EXPENSIVE) Most of our food was served STONE COLD and the main dish I was so excited to get was lukewarm. We ate that because we'd gone in starving with high expectations. It took a long time to get our food. Having a $25 sample plate served cold was ridiculous. Do they just have pots filled with sides sitting on the counter they plop into small dishes, or what? Thick, goopy, and terrible. I called a manager over and he didn't hesitate to remove that one awful thing, but it was still $80 plus for a totally blah meal, with a bad server, and an environment that was horrifically loud. I'm sure they have better nights, and no doubt they often serve food hot, but NOLA is known for excellent food AND service. This night we had neither, so I can't suggest you go, and I won't be going back again. Bummer.
