Service & atmosphere were top notch, as always. My last visit a few weeks ago I was disappointed that the ribs were over-cooked & tough, but I promised to return because their BBQ is well worth the drive. I returned for their buffet, certain they would redeem themselves. Well, there was no BBQ on the buffet - no ribs, no brisket, no pulled pork. Instead, there was meatloaf, Cajun fish, fried chicken, catfish nuggets, hamburger steak, overcooked dry pork chops & enchiladas. No BBQ! The fried chicken was good & my niece said the catfish nuggets were great. I see no reason to drive 40 miles from home again for their Sunday buffet. Sorry, Mugsy! Spied Mugsy's on the internet as I was searching for new restaraunts to journey to on the East side of i35 since recently moving to Guthrie. I arrived and was put off a little by the sign that said it was cash only, their card reader was down. This sort of stuff drives me crazy because I am usually going to these type of restaurants as a destination and it took me an hour to get there. I didn't have cash, but luckily the gas station next door has an ATM. So let's just say I went into Mugsy's a little grumpy. I was seated in a nice booth in a clean dining room and placed my order. I ordered the 4M sandwich with onion rings, and I ordered a brisket philly cheesesteak as a to go order that I plan on eating for dinner. Ended up getting the peach fried pie as well. Food came quickly with large portions, especially for the price. The prices are very reasonable for bbq in this day and age. The owner came out and talked with each patron individually and was very welcoming. When he found out I came specifically to eat, he ran into the other room and brought me a couple of mugs and a to go menu to have if I was ever driving through. He was very nice and I enjoyed the conversation. Some might think he's trying a bit too hard, but I thought it was a nice touch. Especially since he seemed very genuine in his excitement to meet everyone. The 4 M sandwich is a 4 meat sandwich with brisket, Pulled pork, bologna, and sausage, on a very sturdy bun. The meat was all good, except the brisket was a little over done. But not really a big deal, as the sandwich was pretty good. I did NOT care for the BBQ sauce (and I LOVE sauce) as it seemed more like ketchup than BB sauce. It wasn't offensive, I just didn't like it as I felt it was rather bland. The onion rings were 10/10, my favorite style. The peach fried pie was probably the best fried pie I've ever had. So tasty. What great food and service. My husband said the meatloaf was the best he has ever had. Three of us had pulled pork which was delicious without a tidbit of fat. The place was full, and we were served our meals in a quick amount of time. The fried pies were fantastic. The servers were efficient and very personable. To top it off, Hugs came by to meet us. Being from Phoenix visiting cousins, he had a great conversation with us and offered us fried pies on him. We HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. read more

Everything was EXCELLENT, I will say the fried okra & onion rings were the best I've had in a long time. We got a 3 meat carry out with Brisket, pulled pork and sausage. We had to wait about 40 minutes to eat it and it was still excellent. Salad and Baked potato were as expected but good. I added bread pudding and my wife got a blackberry fried pie and were also excellent. Will definitely do it again. read more

A group of some close friends visited Mugsy's today for lunch. We were greeted by Mr. Darrell Mueggenborg when we entered. As always, he was very accommodating and friendly! I can't say enough about the warm welcome and atmosphere at his restaurant. The food was fantastic and the service was top notch as well. The minute we walked in we were greeted by the wonderful friendly staff, and later the owner, Darrell. The food was great and the portion sizes were large. 45 minute wait for waitress, the yeast bread was doughy and chewy. The catfish was 2 very thin pieces. The okra was dry with little breading and tasted like reheated left overs. This is a great family atmosphere with food that may have a twist, making it a unique place to dine in, here in Oklahoma. Drinks are served in Mason jars, setting the atmosphere of a family restaurant. I ordered an appetizer, smoked chicken with BBQ sauce. First impression was the nice tangy flavor of the sauce followed up with the succulent juices of the meat. Loved it and they were some of the best wings I've ever eaten. Next was the BLT with fried green tomatoes. I was forced to eat green tomato pie as a kid and the memory wasn't not a good one. But if green tomatoes were being served in a restaurant, surely it had to be good. First bite was pleasant with an unexpectedly good flavor of the Mayo coming to the front. Next was the amazing peppery flavored, fried green tomatoes! This was definitely one of the best BLTs I have eaten! Order this if you want something on the lighter side but with great flavor. My wife ordered a 2 meats platter, brisket and sausage. I didn't sample the sausage but the brisket was tender and portion size was generous! We shared a fried cherry pie with vanilla been ice cream. The first flavor to hit me was that of the glaze on top, the same flavor you would expect from a fresh glazed donut! The warm, cherry filled pie with ice cream was a great way to complete are lunch. We were headed to the Oklahoma Steam & Gas Engine Show in Pawnee when we discovered MUGSY'S GRUBH0USE in Yale, OK. The place has a wide variety of sandwiches, BBQ platters, salads, baked potatoes, steaks, great sides, beer and wine, and a kids menu. I had the GRUBHOUSE burger and my wife the Fried Green Tomato BLT. Both were delicious and the fries were perfect. There were quite a few diners in the restaurant and I noticed that just about everything on the menu was being ordered; a testament to it is "all good!" The servers are very attentive to the customers and everyone works to keep the place spotless. The decor in the restaurant is country and has a great collection of historical photos from the area. There are also, some beautiful sketches and paintings on display, which were done by a local artist. You could spend an hour just touring the walls. The owner is a hands-on guy. He was seating customers, busing tables, checking with customers to make sure orders were correct and took the time to visit with everyone in the place. I would say this guy has more energy than a 6 year old on a sugar high the day after Halloween! On the way out we were looking at great collection of pictures on the wall. He noticed our interest and took the time to tell us about the historical pictures, the art work and gave us a tour of the place along with explaining the history of his business. They have large inside and outside dining area and are able handle some fairly large groups. The outside dining area is covered. Some of the tables are made from old wagon wheels and they have a couple of very unique windmill ceiling fans to keep you cool. There is plenty of parking in the back. As the word gets out the MUGSY'S GRUBHOUSE will become a must do destination for bikers, car clubs and anyone wanting a great meal. It is really neat to see entrepreneurs such as this owner reinvesting their time and money into these small towns in Oklahoma. I'm not sure how this place brings people in unless it truly is the only restaurant within 30 miles, which seems like it might be the case. The service was good, let me say that up front. The waitress was nice and attentive. The food...was not. Everything was absolutely cooked to heck (WELL-WELL done everything) and nothing was particularly good or even okay. At least it wasn't too expensive, a little under $20pp for a meal and a non-alcoholic drink each after tax and tip. I wouldn't go back for half that much, though. Keep drivin' if you're passing through. Or give it a shot, maybe it was an OFF-OFF day. It was wayyyyy off. read more

Spur of the moment road trip lead us here and we weren't disappointed! Service was very pleasant and quick. The fried mushrooms were fresh and the breading wasn't heavy. The size of them shocked us, you normally don't get such a great size and amount of them also at other places. The 2 meat had sliced brisket and bologna. Not heavy on the smoke but still amazing. Fried okra was very fresh. Onion rings were cut thick like I prefer but didn't seem fresh. My husbands steak was cooked to perfection at med rare and he said was worth every penny. Baked potato was good and the grilled asparagus was wonderful. Never made it to the bread so that went home with us. Wished we weren't so full so we could try the desserts but we will next time. There are not many restaurants out here in the country and even when you do find one you like the food is always hit or miss but not here!! Phenomenal food, super friendly and fun atmosphere plus it's reasonably priced! The food is high quality and you can taste it! No skipped corners or ingredients and you will always have leftovers to take home bc the portion sizes are so generous ... much needed in today's economy! Depending on your order, you get 2 meals! Only complaint I've ever had is not checking my to go orders and getting home with missing items I paid for. But hasn't happened to me recently and I've been there twice in the last week! He even helped serve food and bussed tables at one point. When I get a steak, I'm usually skeptical about the sirloin, due to it not being my personal first choice; but this thing hit the spot! I ordered the chicken fried steak which came with two sides and bread. The bread was outstanding. Soft and slightly sweet plus accompanied by cinnamon sugar butter. It was a pleasant surprise for a birthday supper from the kids to their Dad. First off I despise eating out, so the fact that this isn't a chain restaurant was a good start. The food was very good. We were there on a Sunday so it was buffet day! Salad was fresh, varied and plentiful, and some delicious mains to choose from: sliced ham, fried chicken, sweet potato casserole to name just a few. Having a sweet tooth, I was all about the desserts. They were so so good!! I tried the chocolate sheet cake and cherry cobbler. Delish! Driving from Tulsa to Stillwater, OK today and stopped into Mugsy's Grubhouse in a little town called Yale. First of all, it was adorably decorated in a cowboy/western theme and smelled AMAZING! The waitress was super friendly and the menu looked great, with too much to choose from..barbecue, steaks, burgers, pork chops, and even my favorite appetizer, fried green tomatoes! As we perused the menu, some guy with a big smile, western clothes, and an even bigger personality passed by the table and yelled across the room that he noticed our Texas plate and was "bird doggin'" us. My first thought was that someone had started drinking a little early, but soon realized this was Darrell, the owner. He came over and introduced himself, telling us all about how he'd started his business 3 years ago and asking about us and what brought us to town. When he learned we came from Indiana and Florida, he insisted on bringing us some "souvenirs" and promptly returned with coffee cups and license plates. And as he left he reminded us that we must have a fried pie! We ordered the fried green tomatoes to start, which were among the best I've ever had, then decided to split a bbq platter of brisket and pulled pork. I'm always hesitant to order brisket in a new place, because I'm usually disappointed, but I'm so glad we did! It simply melted in our mouths, as did the pulled pork. And the spicy cowboy beans were as wonderful and unique as the entire experience would prove to be. We didn't have room for the fried pie, but got a pecan one to go. Haven't tried it yet, but I'd be shocked if it wasn't to die for! As a business owner, myself, I so appreciate the passion and hospitality we experienced from Darrell. I love it when I meet a business owner who understands that the customer experience is as important as great food. I knew right away that I would write this review, because this guy has poured his heart into his business and it shows! And did I mention the prices?
