    These are the cakes ?!?!
    Leanne G.

Looks good, looks clean and all looks really tasty. BUT - the guy serving was not letting anyone get a word in, deft not customer service that I would want again. Quite rude really. Maybe needs to back down and pay attention to customers. Bought lemon and coconut slice - butter cream icing way to buttery all you can taste - maybe a wee bit of cream cheese in the mix to take the greasy butter taste away - leaves a terrible after taste. Bought a date slice - can slightly taste the date but over baked as date has gone rock hard in the middle instead of keeping its jam like consistency. All in all not that chuffed giving them the stars as was clean and used tongs for gluten free on gluten free and other tongs for non GF cake.

Killing time, and drawn in by my love of a good muffin (fnar?) I popped in here. A latte and an apple and cinnamon muffin ordered, I tried to find a seat. It wasn't that busy just a bit messy, but I don't mind grabbing a napkin to wipe down a table so it didn't take me long to get seated. You get the option to have your muffin warmed, which is a nice touch, and so when mine arrived it was lovely and moist, very tasty but a bit crumbly, like it'd dried out a little bit before they'd heated it? The coffee was kinda average, but in a lovely touch that made me smile you get, when you start to reach the button of the cup, a glimpse of a wee smiley face in there! Cute! It's a bit cramped for space, especially at the ordering area when you walk in, and like I said, they could pay a little more attention to the seating area cleanliness, but overall it was about as I expected. Cheap, cheerful and good for the price.

I dropped in here recently for what was an unacceptably late lunch. This was my fault, not Muffin Break's fault. They were really probably wanting to close up for the day by that point and almost all of the muffins were gone - no matter, I wasn't in the mood for something sweet anyway. My boyfriend and I each ordered a hot drink. He ordered a cheese and ham pannini and I ordered a leek and mushroom tart. The staff were amazing, they didn't seem to mind that we'd arrived 30 minutes before closing, they just got our order ready, chatting away to us and recommending other items for next time. The man serving us realised I'd registered my loyalty card online and told me my coffee was free - unless I wanted to save it for next time. We got settled and enjoyed our drinks and food whilst watching shoppers finishing their errands in the St Enoch Centre. I was relieved to see other customers to Muffin Break arrive even after we did and I stopped feeling so guilty. My coffee was perfect and the tart was delicious, light and creamy. I kind of want to go back and try a few of the other flavours, as well as the pasta bake they serve there. I think, for a coffee shop that really specialises in muffins, they put a lot of thought and creativity into their other options. In Glasgow any cafe or coffee shop faces a lot of stiff competition and, with so many options, I'm not sure I'd stop here every time I was in need of caffeine in the city centre. However, if I'm in need of caffeine and a cheap lunch then it definitely edges towards the top of my list and makes other chains like Costa and Starbucks look far less interesting.

I'm so excited to be eating a gluten free muffin right now! This wee muffin shop is across from Boots in St. Enoch shopping centre. They've got a sign that says they also do a dairy free range of muffins. In addition to about 10 or so different varieties of muffins, including two gluten free options, they have sandwiches, soups, cakes and coffee. Can't wait to try more!

I thought if their cakes looked that amazing, the brunch must be amazeballs. I entered the grand looking coffee shop with walls of mirrors and a counter of cakes on a very dreicht Saturday morning. I was a bit late but fortunately when I arrived people had just ordered, I quickly picked from the menu French Toast (I knew what I wanted before I ordered to be honest) and a pot of Breakfast Tea. There was 10 fabulous Yelpers and we all picked a nice mix of various brunch meals. When the dishes hit the posh tables they looked pretty tasty. My tea was lovely and the French toast was a tasty brioche bread with a wee bowl of maple syrup to drizzle over. Now, don't get me wrong it did taste nice but I've had better and I felt like I could have had another slice, especially at the price they were charging. Now this place is not cheap. I knew that the cake was steep as I had seen the branch in Glasgow Central. Not only were my teeth thinking of falling out with the amount of sugar those mahoosive cakes have but my eyes were popping out with the prices. I really wanted to try the French toast with bacon but I just couldn't see myself paying over £7 for it. Maybe when I'm rich 'n' shiz. The staff were lovely and accommodating. I would like try their lunch menu and a slice of cake to see if they taste as good as they look. Firstly though I'll need to save up for the visit. So if anyone would like to support my next visit, donations are very welcome.

Pâtisserie Valérie is a very welcoming place where everyone should feel comfortable. Pastries are SO GOOD and sweet (just like the staff is). Moreover, the soft background music is making such a nice atmosphere!

It's not my ideal location for afternoon tea as it's loud and busy but it didn't bother us as we weren't there for the atmosphere. The two ladies working there were really friendly and took our drinks orders quickly. We both ordered tea. I love the tea a Patisserie Valerie because it's loose leaf and served in a suki teapot. We decided to sit outside and watch people go by. It was a Saturday afternoon so very busy. Our food came really quickly. I was very pleased to see scones and real clotted cream. We were also given a selection of mini jam jars which was a nice touch. Sandwiches were also really nice. The cakes on top weren't bad but it wasn't something I'd personally choose, except for maybe the chocolate one. I'm saying a-okay because I felt the tables were too small, and also the tables didn't appear to have been wiped down in a while. The staff didn't really come outside to clear things away when others had left either. But I'd say overall fast friendly service and yummy food!

I bought a coffee and a box of macarons to take to the meeting. The coffee curing my hangover and the macarons made my colleagues even happier than I expected. They were delcious, sweet, cruncy, smooth and light. Everything a good macaron should be. So lets call that a 5 star experience. The sitting in occasion was slightly less perfect. I ordered a latte and a frangipane tart and I took a seat. There were a few other people in the cafe but it was far from busy. The staff were nice enough and my order arrived relatively quickly. Unfortunately my coffee was awful. It's not often that I abandon caffeine but this time I was forced to. The tart was ok - I'd order it again but it wouldn't go to the top of the list. So lets call that a 3 star experience. I guess that's why on balance it gets four stars. Realistically, that sounds about right. I hope the nasty coffee was a one off because I'm bound to be temped back in by the cakes soon enough.

They're about the same size and always packed, and huzzah, their sandwiches are delicious at both locations. I had walked by a few times the day I finally popped in for a late lunch, as they were swamped the whole lunch rush. I managed to squeeze in to the queue around 2pm and I could tell they had just been through the ringer with the lunch crowd. The guy ahead of me wanted a chicken tikka sandwich but they were out of a couple of the ingredients, so he ordered something else. When it was my turn to order, the guy jokingly said 'let's see if I'm able to make your sandwich!" I ordered the Chiken Ole which was chicken meat, manchego cheese, chorizo, salsa and a spicy mayo on ciabatta. The only one thing they didn't have was the salsa, which in exchange they offered me a bit of salad with some sweet chili sauce. I decided against the sauce and took the salad! What a delightful sandwich this was. My stomach is growling just thinking about it! The bread was freshly baked and so delicious, even at 2pm. The ingredients were all fresh and piled high in to the bread. I also grabbed a bag of crisps and a lemon mint san pellagrino. The greatest lunch on the go I've had in a long while. The guys in here were cool as anything and the music was great. The queues might be long but the sandwiches are worth it. They also serve soups, coffee and baked goods if you're looking for something sweet. I will be back for sure!

It's upstairs on the first floor around from the food court. I get the look they're going for (cosy Italian cafe) but I have to say it doesn't quite work yet, probably because they're in a shopping centre. The space seems a little stark at the moment. I was taken in by the display at the counter so headed in to have a look - the guy serving was super friendly and welcoming which was nice. I decided to get a couple of cakes to try and he explained to me what they were - frolla are a type of cake from Naples made with ricotta and they have different flavours. I got two chocolate ones and then a ricotta and pear one. Normally £2 each but I got the 10% off discount. I tried them when I got home and was really impressed - they're quite unusual, not like any cake I've had before and were really tasty. You could tell they're made fresh. They also sell savoury food if cake isn't your thing - cannelloni, lasagne, pizza rustica, potato croquettes - all made fresh in their kitchen out the back. You can also buy a whole one if you want something for dinner rather than just a slice. Plus they do coffees etc if you just want coffee and cake to eat in. I'll definitely be back. It's nice to see something a bit different in St Enoch aside from the food court options!

Yes, it's certainly not what I was expecting to pop up in this slightly unfashionable shopping mall. So, Ddoce is a completely new concept for Glasgow, a real Southern Italian style Pasticceria. There are very few places in town that do real Italian pastries and the ones that do, often serve up Sicilian style cannoli. However Ddoce specialises in the famous 'Sfogliatelle' from the Campania region of Italy. The Sfogliatelle come in various forms, from the most popular Riccia, which is a flaky, very crispy filled pastry with a delicious ricotta and orange innard, to the simple short crust Frolla with various delicious fillings like creme patissiere, chocolate creme etc. On my first visit I wanted to try a bit of everything so I kindly treated the office to a selection of sweets and I bagged a little arrancino for myself. The arrancino was nice, but much smaller than the ones I am accused to in Italy. The rice was coated in a nice ragu and it had a stringy mozzarella middle that served me well on the walk up the road. All the pastries were good and very similar to what I've eaten in Italy. Sfogliatelle aren't quite my favourite style of pastries so it will be interesting to see what the Glaswegians make of them. My favourite pastry was the Black Cherry and creme pat Pasticciotto. Simply delicious!! At £2.50 it ain't cheap, but it's a nice wee treat and I find it better value than what many other cafes dish up. I suppose you gotta bare in mind that all this stuff is shipped in from Naples, so for that price it ain't too bad! Also on offer is savoury dishes like Lasagna, Cannelloni, Pizza Rustica. The portions looked reasonable and the food looked authentic. Next time I visit I will definitely be trying this stuff along with a coffee (which looked good)! Although this place would make a killing in the more hip West End part of town, I hope that people Glasgow head along to try something a little different.
