9. Beef with Leek Wrapped in Pancakes
Hursuong V.

Pretty standard Chinese restaurant. Biggest pro is that they have large tables and that there is a small parking lot. Felt the dishes overall to be quite oily. Service was objectively fair as they were trying to rush us, came off as rude, and we had a hard time flagging them down. Tableware and such also need an update/refresh. Nonetheless it seems they are very popular as the place was full even on a weekday night. - beef scallion rolls were presented nicely - Szechuan cripsy chicken nugget things could have used more chicken! - Watercress and egg plants were good portions - Fried rice veryyyy oily - Mushu chicken was alright - chili oil potato strips were decently spicy

I swear though if y'all sell out the duck I'm going to be so mad

I'm honestly so shocked Mu Lan isn't rated higher here (and it's making me question my taste buds), BUT everything I've gotten here has been amazing. I was introduced by a friend of mine, and I've been hooked ever since. I bring my friends, who bring their friends, and the line goes on. In all seriousness, get the smoked or salted duck. They're cold dishes but absolutely delicious. My go to dishes are the duck, fried porkchops, Mu Lan fish, and the Ham Hock (thank me later.)

Classic flavors in a bustling environment. We got the 4. Pork with Chinese Cabbage Dumpling, 94. Shredded Pork with Dry Bean Curd, 132. Crispy Chicken in Chili Sauce, and 160. Stir Fried String Bean. Flavors were solid across the board, with the String Beans as a highlight--charred nicely and especially tasty. The issue, however, was the saltiness: the shredded pork and string beans were hypertension-inducing. Even pairing them with rice only helped a bit. Cups of water were needed to combat it...

Excellent service, food comes out very quick! Delicious variety of food, including vegetarian and meat dishes. It's surprising that this Taiwanese restaurant does not have soup dumplings or baos. The green beans And eggplant with basil are a must try, absolutely delicious! The whole fish and crispy chicken are also pretty good. The duck was okay, not my favorite place for duck. It was bustling indoors, loud environment with lots of guests On a Saturday evening.

46. Taiwaness Style Pan Fried Rice Noodle with Pork

Falsely advertised as Taiwanese food. Everything here other than 2-3 items are not Taiwanese. Much better options elsewhere around.

I came here for dinner with three friends, and as someone who just spent three months in Taiwan, the food didn't taste very authentic. Some dishes were enjoyable, like the the salt and pepper pork chop, but overall it didn't feel worth the price. The customer service was friendly and attentive but I probably wouldn't return for the food alone.

Visiting the area and was craving Asian cuisine. Mu Lan's dishes were delicious, with plenty of vegetarian options. We ordered the mixed vegetable, spicy eggplant, and Taiwanese rice noodles with pork. All nicely flavored. Food came out hot and quick.

KUDOS to the staff for providing supreme quality customer service! Thank God for them! We ordered braised pork shank, Taiwan chow main, and eggplant with basil. The ambiance was quiet! I highly recommend all to come and visit to support this local business!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Boston Area. Me and my friends visit MuLan atleast a few times a month! Their crispy chicken in chilli sauce is just amazing! The MuLan fish is very tasty. The Lunch specials are a great value for money. The service is great too.

Authentic Taiwanese food in Cambridge! The flavors are great and the pricing is more than fair for the quality you get. We ordered a noodle dish, a meat dish, and a veggie, and it was the perfect combo - each dish well-executed, flavorful, and comforting. They serve hot tea as well. That said, this place gets busy--and for good reason. Expect a long wait on Fri/weekends, but the steady flow of takeout orders and packed tables are clear signs that people know where to find good food. The service is efficient despite the rush, and the atmosphere is lively. Already looking forward to my next visit!

I came here with my family to try a Taiwanese restaurant while visiting Boston. My son loved the braised pork dish. All the dishes tasted good to me. My husband had a higher standard, he said it was ok and that he wouldn't come back. My son and I would come back. The waiter was very attentive to us, great service. The restaurant was pretty crowded when we left. Nice atmosphere.

Taiwanese food in Cambridge! I only found this spot because it was recommended by a few friends who grew up in Taiwan (if that tells you anything). Really good spot for family style and/or a casual, special occasion and their seating can easily take large groups. Most dishes are made to be shared, and ordering one per person is usually more than enough. Atmosphere is casual; aesthetic is white table cloths and round tables w/ lazy Susans type beat. It's tucked away in the Cambridge suburbs, so it can be a little bit of a trip if coming from the city - but it's worth it. The place usually gets packed if you try to go at an average dinner time, but service is relatively fast once you're seated. Some dishes I really enjoy: the Mu Lan Fish (fish is cooked tender, and swims in a really yummy sauce with a little bit of spicy), Scallion Pancake with Beef (one of my favorite items to order if a place offers it; they give a generous portion of beef here), the Eggplant with Basil (can never go wrong with this one, the eggplant is so soft and saucy), and the Homestyle Chicken (it's one of their cold appetizers, the chicken is very simply-prepared, tender, and not too gamey, and comes quick).

Good foods overall, and especially great for the price. Service is surprisingly quick considering the quality and the size of the menu.

For appetizers, I got the vegetarian spring roll and scallion pancakes. Both were delicious, and they were not excessively greasy, a problem I often find in these items. I ordered four vegetarian main courses: Chinese Eggplant with Basil, Spicy Broccoli with garlic sauce, sauteed lotus root with black fungus, and Kung Pao tofu. The vegetables were all well seasoned and delicious, but the kung pao tofu was my favorite dish of the night. The tofu was crispy on the outside and slightly firm but moist on the inside. And the sauce complemented the rest of the dish well. Our total bill was around $100. I will absolutely visit Cilantro again, and I recommend it for take out!

We got the Szechuan cold noodle ($10.95), Szechuan style string beans with pork ($13.95), cumin lamb ($19.95), and a bowl of rice ($1.85) to share. The one who took our order warned us that the dishes would be spicy but they were honestly okay! If you can handle Shin ramen or hot Cheetos then the dishes are even milder. The cold noodles were nice and chewy and soaked in chili oil. I wouldn't have minded if they were more garlicky. The sauce had a nice balance between sweet, sour, and savory. The string beans were fresh and had a pretty mild flavor to them with just the right amount of salt. There wasn't a lot of pork in the dish. I loved the flavor of the cumin lamb although it was on the greasy side. Each piece of lamb was so tender and packed with smoky cumin flavor! This was probably the spiciest dish of all of them and it went perfectly with rice. The lunch specials seem like a very good deal especially since food prices have increased so much recently.

A dinner with my Korean friends revealed my current favorite Chinese restaurant in Boston!…read more Soup Steamed Dumplings Pork 小籠包: The dumplings were large, incredibly juicy, and the meat filling was tender and smooth. The seasoning was only slightly sweet, perfectly complementing the freshness of the meat. These were the best Xiaolongbao I've had in the US, although the skin was a bit soggy and unappetizing. Pork & Leeks Dumpling: My friend ordered these, opting for pan-fried dumplings. They were piping hot, incredibly fragrant, and the meat filling was tender. The chive flavor was mild, which is perfect since I don't like chives lol. A touch of vinegar was definitely needed to cut through the richness! Sliced Fish Szechuan Style: Calling them "sliced fish" is a bit of a stretch; "fish fillets" would be more accurate. They were probably made with basa fish, and the fish was incredibly tender, almost melting in your mouth. The broth was fragrant, and the numbing and spicy flavor was authentic, earning high praise from my friend from Sichuan. Lamb with Ginger & Scallions Onion: A perfectly good Beijing dish, but it was prepared with the feel of a Cantonese stir-fry, which suited my Cantonese palate perfectly. The lamb was incredibly tender, with no gamey taste, and stir-fried until the oil was visible but the sauce wasn't thickened. The sweetness of the onions and carrots added to the complex flavor. Sweet and Sour Pork Tenderloin: Just average, like a typical Shanghai style home-cooked meal. Nothing special to say. General Gao's Tofu 左宗豆腐: My first time trying the famous "General Tso" (I don't know why they call it General Gao) series of American Chinese cuisine. It felt similar to the technique used in Shanghainese "Kung Pao宮保." A slightly sweet and sour flavor with the aroma and mild spiciness of dried chili peppers, the ingredients were deep-fried and coated in a thick sauce. The tofu was overcooked, the edges were hard, and the sauce became a bit watery towards the end. This dish was just okay.

One order of XLB comes with 7 dumplings. I think they are fine, the skin is a bit too thick for my liking (perhaps I am a Din Tai Fung snob) and I think the soup inside is just fine. It's not bad but not great.

Owner / manager/ waitress on phone and no attentive ... then her call got annoying long and loud... my ambiance worsen and now just bad. No soothing Asian music here... The basa fish fillets were incredibly tender, the Szechuan peppercorns were fragrant but not numbing, and the overall flavor was oily but not greasy. The server would remove the chilies after serving, so there was no need to worry about the spiciness. Beef Fillets & Cabbage with Hot Chili Sauce水煮牛肉: Redder and spicier than the boiled fish. The Szechuan people present commented that this was the only dish with flavor. The beef was very tender; although you could taste the tenderizing powder, it wasn't a big problem. Scallions and Szechuan peppercorns contributed much to the fragrance. Pork Intestine with Preserved Vegetable酸菜大腸: Surprisingly, it tasted like... Hakka cuisine? The pork intestines were cut on the thicker side, not the usual kind, but the slightly sour and spicy flavor with a light thickening was just right. Spicy Frog in Fried Pot乾鍋牛蛙: Despite the name, there was a lot of sauce; the bullfrog meat was too tough and chewy. Not recommended. Ma Po Tofu (With minced pork)麻婆豆腐: Very delicious! The tofu was very tender, and the Sichuan peppercorns were very fragrant. Duck with Peking Plum Sauce京醬鴨片: The duck meat was mushy and lacked texture, and the Beijing plum sauce was heavily diluted. I had a feeling of not knowing what I had eaten. Sichuan Spicy Dumpling紅油水餃: I loved them!! The dumplings were large, the filling was generous, and the skin was on the thicker side, giving them a good chewy and firm texture. Besides the chili oil and peanuts, there was a hint of vinegar, which was very refreshing. Steamed Juicy Pork Bun小籠包: The restaurant claims they are handmade daily. Plenty of soup filling, but slightly oily; the skin was chewy but not dry, unfortunately one was broken. If this isn't the case for most places, then Fuchun Ju excels in its fillings, while Zoe's excels in its skins; both are comparable and worth trying.
