Master Souza, if you're reading this I hope you understand what you've done and learn to grow into a better person from it. As for Adam (fake name but you know who you are), one of the other teachers there, he's a joy to be taught by. Adam, if you ever read this, I'm sorry you got caught up in the crossfire of this and whatever results. I wish you the best of luck in life and know that we appreciate you.

About a month later, I was diagnosed with long term effects of Covid and could not longer participate. Per their membership contract, I reached out via e-mail to cancel. Their email system DOES NOT RECEIVE EMAILS. Repeated delivery failure. They DO NOT ANSWER voicemails. I was provided the instructors personal cell number at the beginning of class, which I texted, and got no response. I sent a message via facebook, no response. I pretended I was requesting new info on their website - ignored. They are taking a disabled nurse's money. I am still being charged.

Sensei Paul Belle Isle is an excellent instructor of Shindo Jinen Ryu Karate. I attended his class…read morefor a little over a year and can easily attest that his approach to instructing and teaching this style of Karate makes it easy to understand yet keeps it challenging as it should be. He doesn't just "hand out" belts like some other dojos nor does he allow the students to forget the very basics. For every belt you earn, you can honestly say you know everything you are required to know up to that point. Sensei Paul makes the student understand the purpose of each movement in Shindo Jinen Ryu and with the typically smaller sized classes, he has time to teach one on one if need be. Sensei Paul truly has a love for Karate and a passion for teaching. I highly recommend this class to anyone.

Anyway, I happily accepted the gift because I was already wondering how to add more variety to my daily fitness routine, which consists of bending, stretching, and balancing exercises along with weights and cardio (I am lucky to have the equipment and space in my home to do this). I was also hoping that by participating in a group exercise, I will not have the monotony of working out alone (listening to the Morning Edition) at least twice a week. Well, despite the fact that I had never taken marital arts lessons before and other than tidbits gathered from watching Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies, I hardly knew anything, I found that at the end of the day, karate is yet another way to improve fitness. Obviously, it was a little intimidating to join a class with that level of ignorance, but I found the instructor to be supportive and patient. Over several weeks, I have learned a few stances and kicks, and feel much more confident about being able to defend myself in the future. Now, yet again, maybe it was my ignorance, but I did not expect that we will be doing a lot of other exercises to warm up and to improve our fitness levels in addition to actual karate techniques. So that has been a blessing for me because I am realizing that by doing these additional exercises I am exercising each and every muscle in my body. Let me add that karate can be learned at any age and I am aware of instructors who are in their 70s and 80s. That is yet another plus because this is a fitness activity that I can envision doing the rest of my life. Taking on karate classes as I am approaching my 50th birthday was a step outside my comfort zone of fitness, but it has been fun because the classes are designed to be slow-paced and focused more on getting it right than on speed.

The facility is immaculately maintained, with equipment that is not only modern and well-kept but consistently sanitized, creating an environment that feels both safe and inviting. Equally commendable is the staff. Every interaction is marked by warmth, courtesy, and an evident commitment to member satisfaction. The employees are approachable without being intrusive, knowledgeable without being condescending, and always willing to assist with genuine enthusiasm. The atmosphere strikes a rare balance between motivation and comfort. Whether one is pursuing an intense training session or a more measured workout, the space accommodates all fitness levels with ease. It is evident that this gym values not just physical wellness, but the overall experience of those who train within its walls. In sum, this establishment is far more than a place to exercise--it is a refined, well-run facility that exemplifies excellence in both service and environment. I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone seeking a gym that prioritizes cleanliness, professionalism, and respect for its members.

It's about 10 minutes farther but it's worth it; I was totally impressed with this facility and plan to visit more often. It's night and day compared with Natick. The first thing I noticed was that it was bright and welcoming and the staff was very attentive. Maybe it was just a coincidence but it seemed like the staff was really trying to keep things clean and tidy. I saw people attending to the machines and one staff member was cleaning the showers in the locker room. Someone told me they went through a major renovation recently and it certainly shows. Everything is new. The machines, the locker room, the spa. Speaking of the spa, I was like a kid in a candy store! I tried a massage chair and the cryovac machine which was incredible. Like a lounge chair that combines a heating pad and an ice pack that you can apply to different parts of your body. eg, hot on your neck, cold on your lower back and vice versa. One major difference is that this location is much smaller than PF Natick which I happened to like. You didn't have to walk far to move from one machine to the other. Keep up the good work PF Franklin!
