All of the Masters and instructors are experts in multiple disciplines of Martial Arts including Tae Kwon Do, Hap Kido, Kung Fu, and more. All of the Masters are originally from Korea and their primary discipline is Tae Kwon Do, which is at the core of the curriculum. Mu Han Masters and instructors take pride in holding themselves and their students to the highest virtues and standards possible. They truly take the "Art" to heart. They promote a fun and family oriented environment that is yet challenging and disciplined. Mu Han is a great school (Do Jang) for all ages. Martial arts will not only help your fitness level; it will challenge your mind, body and spirit in new ways helping you gain perspective and resiliency in all aspects of your life. Most of all, you may even surprise yourself with just how much you can do. Learning martial arts was something I always wanted to do but always felt that it was somehow out of reach. I am so happy that even though late in life, I made the decision to give it a try. Three years has gone by in the blink of an eye and I'm now a Black Belt. But, the journey is still just beginning. Come check us out at Mu Han where the Mu Han Motto or the Mu Han Way = "No Limits." Cheers!

I feel very strongly to make sure anyone else basing decisions solely on these reviews know that this dojo is NOT ANTI GAY. I've stayed away from "traditional" martial arts because I have flexibility issues as well, but I saw people of all ages, sizes and fitness levels doing Krav Maga. The staff and instructors have always been supportive and helpful. If an instructor notices I'm having trouble doing a certain move, they are quick to suggest an alternative. For example, I can't kick quite high enough to reach someone's waist (yet), so they suggested I aim for the knee instead. I've never felt pressured to buy anything or sign up for a long term contract. I signed up for black-belt training because I wanted too, and I look forward to the challenge. I disagree with the"McDojo" comment. In my opinion promotions should a balance between proficiency and motivation. Remember, not everyone is a natural jock or an athlete. Does that mean the rest of us who are not should sit on the couch for our lives? If you only promote those who are the most proficient, the less proficient get frustrated and quit. As with most things, it seems like a bell curve with most falling toward the center, not a line in the sand. My limitations have taken me longer to get where I am, but I still got there with practice and support. I earned my rank with sweat, fatigue and determination. I am proud of it.

I attended his class…read morefor a little over a year and can easily attest that his approach to instructing and teaching this style of Karate makes it easy to understand yet keeps it challenging as it should be. He doesn't just "hand out" belts like some other dojos nor does he allow the students to forget the very basics. For every belt you earn, you can honestly say you know everything you are required to know up to that point. Sensei Paul makes the student understand the purpose of each movement in Shindo Jinen Ryu and with the typically smaller sized classes, he has time to teach one on one if need be. Sensei Paul truly has a love for Karate and a passion for teaching. I highly recommend this class to anyone.

Anyway, I happily accepted the gift because I was already wondering how to add more variety to my daily fitness routine, which consists of bending, stretching, and balancing exercises along with weights and cardio (I am lucky to have the equipment and space in my home to do this). I was also hoping that by participating in a group exercise, I will not have the monotony of working out alone (listening to the Morning Edition) at least twice a week. Well, despite the fact that I had never taken marital arts lessons before and other than tidbits gathered from watching Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies, I hardly knew anything, I found that at the end of the day, karate is yet another way to improve fitness. Obviously, it was a little intimidating to join a class with that level of ignorance, but I found the instructor to be supportive and patient. Over several weeks, I have learned a few stances and kicks, and feel much more confident about being able to defend myself in the future. Now, yet again, maybe it was my ignorance, but I did not expect that we will be doing a lot of other exercises to warm up and to improve our fitness levels in addition to actual karate techniques. So that has been a blessing for me because I am realizing that by doing these additional exercises I am exercising each and every muscle in my body. Let me add that karate can be learned at any age and I am aware of instructors who are in their 70s and 80s. That is yet another plus because this is a fitness activity that I can envision doing the rest of my life. Taking on karate classes as I am approaching my 50th birthday was a step outside my comfort zone of fitness, but it has been fun because the classes are designed to be slow-paced and focused more on getting it right than on speed.

From day one they call every student by their name. They work with every student on an individual level - challenging some, building confidence in others - knowing just what the student needs at that particular time. This dojo has taught my son so many things in just one year: coordination, confidence, self control, pride in accomplishments, how to accept criticism, how to win and lose, how to follow directions, how to stand up for oneself or others, patience, persistence, and flexibility, balance, and strength. They develop the whole person. He has had so much FUN learning those things. Martial arts has really become a part of our son's identity and a great source of pride for him. This is not a dojo out to take your money and do the minimum. They do not have contracts. You just pay as you go and it is worth every penney. This dojo has already had such a positive influence on our son's life! Just check it out! Update: My son has now been there over two years. We are still very happy with the personal care he gets. He has had so much fun training and competing in tournaments (and winning some, not others), learning martial arts forms, weapons, and discipline. He also loves playing dodgeball (with soft foam balls) and other games the senseis use to train the younger children. We love the drop off movie nights where the senseis watch the kids, have a movie night and have a pizza party while the parents go on a date! The kids love seeing their karate friends and senseis in street clothes! There are so many nice families here. I also love the convenience of running into Dave's for a few things while my son is training! Very convenient!
