He is exactly the sort of karate coach that you would hope for - firm but with a great sense of humor, so kids love him. Really, all of the instructors are wonderful with children. They keeps kids moving during the whole class, which keeps even the littlest ones engaged, and it allows them to pack a lot into each class. As you move up in rank, you don't just get new belt, but also four stripes towards your new belt, which is wonderful positive reinforcement and keeps my kids working hard. Shihan Cody has all of the curriculum on a YouTube channel, which makes it really easy for my kids to practice in between sessions. Every business has been impacted by COVID, and Excel is a master class in how to pivot and land on your feet, and grow even stronger. This is because Cody worked his butt off to transition to online classes almost immediately (and to build the YouTube library of classes). They have kept the online schedule going, allowing everyone continued access to karate, while transitioning back to in-person classes in slow, safe, methodical steps. We have been at Excel for 4-5 years now. My husband says that this is the best money we have ever spent, and I agree whole-heartedly.
