I wish I could give half stars, because this would get 4.5.
I visited for lunch with a friend in the middle of the week, so the pub--and the town!--were nearly deserted. It's a lovely little pub, and has a lot of its old, original fixtures, and happily, nice, clean, new bathrooms. There's a good selection of drinks, from a variety of ciders, which my friend exulted over, to the range of beers, spirits and soft drinks.
The food is the big surprise here. The pub isn't trying to be a pretentious place, it's exactly what you see is what you get, which is to say, clean, friendly and value for money. So we were both amazed at the size of our meals, as the entree sized wedges with sour cream and chilli were closer to what I thought a main size would be, and our mains were HUGE. The food was fresh, well-cooked, and simply presented, but really, what more do you want?
The owner is very friendly and happy to chat, and overall, this was a really nice way to spend a few hours catching up with a friend over good food and drinks. read more
