DO NOT GO HERE, maybe this used to be a good place, I dont know, but it certainly is not anymore She should have informed us that color on the wrist fades faster, but even so, it should not have faded as it healed, and have the wings be almost gone in 1 week... I had a horrible experience at this shop. This shop is basically a bunch of friends just hanging out and tattooing each other, they dont care about any other clients. My best friend and I came in for a simple wrist tattoo, it was an infinity symbol with dragon fly wings, they charged 80$ a piece which I thought was reasonable, and a friend recommended this place. First off Lisa was late to our appointment, not very professional. Then my friend sat down first to get tattooed, as I was watching she asked another tattoo artist in the shop if he wanted to do my tattoo, and didnt even ask me if it was ok, even though I booked the appointment with her While my friend was getting tattooed I was telling her that I might want to get a tat covered up, because it had meaning at one point and I felt like I had moved passed that, and I didnt need it anymore, Lisa asked to see it, when I showed it to her, she gave me a "ew" look and said "oh yeah, I'd get that covered up..... Which I did not appreciate. . And after putting up with all of that, and having to tell her to go over my tat and saturate the color more (which I shouldnt have to tell her) the tat faded within a week!! she did not put enough color in the wings at all! When I told the shop owner that I didnt think it should count as my '1 free touch up' for her to fix it, he said "thats what touch ups are for" Im sorry, no. touch ups, are for years down the line when they start to fade, and i have 9 tattoos now and every other shop ive been to has unlimited life of the tattoo touch ups. Then I asked him if someone else could fix it, since I didnt trust her, and he said he would charge me another 80$ to do that!! So I let Lisa touch up my tattoo, and again, horrible job, I had to tell her again to saturate more color after she said she was done, she has shaky lines and has no clue what the hell she is doing! I can't believe I'm saying that my head tattoos were my least painful! My most recent tattoo was done by their newest artist Lisa Raddochia. It is a stylized mon mon inspired cat. I am really disappointed to be writing this review. I came here on a suggestion from a friend who got a "good" tattoo here. I decided to check out the shop, and Matt's (the owner's) portfolio had some neat pieces. I talked to him about what I wanted, left my drawings with him, set up my appointment, and left my $20 deposit. He was friendly and instilled me with confidence in his ability. I came back a week later for my appointment and he was not there! The staff called him and it turned out that some how he forgot about my appointment and went out to dinner, even though it was clearly in the appointment book (they showed me). The staff was embarrassed and persuaded me to reschedule. So I came back for my rescheduled appointment and Matt didn't even apologize for blowing me off! I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, so I let it slide. I sat down in the chair and then he couldn't even find the drawings that I had left with him. At this point I was feeling uneasy and having second thoughts, but he said they had just moved and were still getting organized at this new shop. My design was simple and I brought another copy with me just in case, so he made a stencil and put it on my arm - just simple stars of different sizes/colors. It looked good, so I went ahead. It was all down hill from there :( The stencil got smudged and he just freehanded part of it. I couldn't really tell at the time how sloppy it was. Also, the color was not really what I had in mind and was also sloppy - like he missed filling some parts in, and left a bunch of lines and blank spots in other parts. Really lame! People were all over the shop and his apprentices and friends hanging out kept coming over and asking him stuff, and he was really distracted. I got the feeling he didn't care about my tattoo, or his workmanship. I have 4 other great tattoos, but I couldn't really tell how bad this one was at the time because the fresh ink was smeared all over and it was puffy so the colors looked better than they actually turned out to be. It has been about 3 weeks now, and my tattoo is fully healed and looks like crap. I would not even think about going back there for the "free touch up" he offered. I need to go to a real pro to get it salvaged. They get two stars because the staff is friendly, and the shop is clean. I think they have potential, but in my experience they were very unprofessional. Shame on me for not trusting my intuition and getting out before walking away with this poorly done abomination. read more

I got my tattoo yesterday. I walked in and was greeted by Jesus. Jesus was friendly, courteous and helpful. He agreed to do my tattoo even though I have a low tolerance for pain. (I whimpered and squirmed the entire time.) I am completely satisfied with my tattoo and I will definitely use Jesus again since he is an amazing tattoo artist. I wanted a simple star on my right elbow to represent, my new born son. But instead I got an ink stain that reminds me of how stupid I was to trust these assholes! Don't waste your time or money here. They are totally inept. Just look at the picture I posted of their shitty work (as of 8/24/11 you'll need to look in my profile pictures). My photo of their bullshit tattoo "skills" was removed under a Yelp TOS violation. So please contact Yelp and let them know the importance of being able to see the good with the bad when it comes to permanent body modification. They ruined my skin. I will NEVER be able to repair or replace the damage caused by their lack of skill. I can only ink over or go through painful and expensive tattoo removal. Yelp should hold tattoo artists to a higher standard. A bad tattoo is not the same as a bad meal or a lame hair cut. A bad tat is with you for LIFE!! After hearing some not-so-pleasant things about the tattoo services of fellow tattoo/piercing shop, Vibes, it's refreshing to find another tattoo shop in Redwood City. Located right on El Camino at Broadway, MT Tattoo is the second shop in the Bay Area (the other being in Pacifica) MT is simple in its goal: no piercings, no shop, just ink. Minimal in decor, the shop itself has room for three tattoo stations. Clean and open, it's easy to find yourself staring into El Camino traffic as you're getting your work done. I personally saw Denise, who is an apprentice at the shop, but everything was overseen by shop owner, Matt Tarkman. It was a slow Sunday afternoon, but I have been in before, finding more foot traffic (they are open daily, 12-8pm) The only other employees were Matt and another apprentice, although I believe there are three full-time artists, including Matt. It's hard to open a tattoo shop and get business without first establishing a positive reputation. But thanks to Matt's knowledge with his Pacifica shop, MT Tattoos is a great place to get work done. read more

I got a back piece done here a few weeks ago and it's healing nicely. I had a branch up my back with 9 cherry blossoms. The piece is awesome the branch is twisted and gnarly while the flowers are soft and delicate looking. The shop is very clean and I felt very at ease here even though my anxiety was through the roof cause I was scared about my first tattoo. They were awesome about giving me a break and getting me some water when I felt a bit intense. I have a lot of skin allergies so the owner Matt make sure to have Eoin (my artist and shop apprentice) do a patch test to make sure that my skin was not going to reject the ink. My skin only got red so I took some Benedrly and proceed with the Tattoo. This was my first piece and I sat through it for 4 hours! I brought in an image and he sketched it up. The piece came out quite a bit larger than I was expecting but I am pleased with the over all design of it and like that it is so large. I had minimal flaking and the piece is almost completely healed. I would highly recommend Eoin(pronounced OWEN) as an artist... he's a very talented young guy and has a ton of potential. Lets be clear this review is based 100% on my experience with Enoc- A quick background, I got my first tattoo done by a friend in his living room. A simple, small SF outline on my foot. I wimped out and couldn't get it colored. Later, I reazlied I wanted color and there were some things that needed to be fix. I know, I know- what could possibly go wrong with an SF logo? Lets just say it definitely wasn't perfect. I went in to MT as I had been referred by some friends who got their tattoos done there and told them I just wanted to add color & fix the outline. Luckily for me, I was paired with Enoc as he was the one who was free at the time. I am a complete wuss when it comes to pain, six tattoos later and that tiny tattoo on my foot was BY FAR the most painful... Enoc got it done so quickly & thoroughly I didn't have to sit through the pain for long, we're talking like 15 minutes tops. He has done all but one of my tattoos since then. He's everything I look for in an artist- he's confident which I think is really important in an artist, if the artist isn't confident how can you be confident that they'll do a good job? If you're not happy with the drawing he'll fix it until you are happy. I told him purple was my absolute favorite color and he has incorporated purple in to every tattoo of mine he could since then. Plus he's an overall good artist, not just when it comes tattooing but on paper as well- drawing, painting, whatever it may be. I teach swim lessons 5 days a week so it's impossible for me to not be in the water- it's just not an option. When I told him that no matter what I was going to be in a swimming pool because of this instead of trying to tell me all the reasons that were bad he told me what I could do to protect it in the pool. Since I've now gotten five tattoos from him it really feels like he's taken the time to show a general interest- like I'm not just another "human canvas". There was one tattoo that I had been planning for several months as a tribute to my grandparents & when the time came to get it I was really short on cash (just before christmas) but he totally helped me out and gave it to me for an amazing price. I was so grateful. Lastly, I'm really squirmy & I can't handle pain- I'm probably one of the worst types of clients you could hope for. If we're doing a tattoo that's going to take a decent amount of time (over an hour) he brings his laptop with movies for me to watch to help me sit still. He is absolutely amazing! This is apparently not the month to get anything appearance altering done (see my hairstyle review below). I got a tattoo here as a walk in. I had a picture of what I wanted and figured it'd be a fairly simple piece. My artist was Mat, I believe. Very friendly & personable guy. Unfortunately the work is not quite there yet. Linework was sloppy and incomplete and the coloring was kind of random. I'll probably get my piece touched up someplace else after it heals. It's not *horrible* but considering it's in an area that I have to look at every single day, it's a reminder to research your artist really well, and trust your instincts. And ask to see a sketch of any changes to your original design before anything is inked permanently on your skin. I should know better because I have other tattoos but I figured this would be a fairly simple design to execute. Too bad. read more

When I was on a mission to find the perfect shop and artist, although I saw some awesome portfolios, they all just seemed pretty cookie-cutter in style and that was the exact opposite of what I wanted. I wanted a personal touch from someone who thinks outside of the box, and Zuey's style and preformance was exactly what I was looking for. I was very apprehensive about finding a person and place to suit my needs, I had only been tattooed by one other person (he did my first 4 tattoos, and this piece that Zuey did is my 5th) where I was born and raised in Rochester, NY and I doubted that I would be able to find someone of his caliber out here. I had started to think that I would just hold off until I visited Rochester again to have my artist do it because this piece is probably the most important one I will ever have. Having a tattoo is a lifetime commitment and I wasn't going to settle for second best. I found Zuey, and I knew that I wouldn't have to settle! I got a fabulous and pristine piece from Zuey. I have recently moved to the Bay Area, and I have stopped in at quite a few tattoo places to check it out. There is some amazing talent here! I really liked a few other shops and artist's portfolios, but I didn't "fall in love" with any particular shop or artist until I met Zuey at MT Tattoos. To me, getting a tattoo isn't just about plastering a piece of ink, somewhere, my tattoos tell a story and reflect what and who I am from the inside, onto the outside. Another factor that is important to me is the personality of the artist, and whether or not we "click." It is about the all-around experience for me, and a very important one at that. Zuey was there the first night I walked in to MT Tattoos when I was browsing through all the artist's portfolios with my husband. I loved Zuey's style, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for, and I didn't even know it was hers until I shared with her and someone else that worked there told me it was. After sharing ideas, she just "got" what I was trying to say, the story I was trying to tell, and what I wanted to accomplish. She was really excited and on board. It felt phenomenal that she was as excited about doing my tattoo as I was. Her and I clicked from the very beginning, and I knew within like 1 minute of us talking that she was "the one." And I told her just that. I had printed out pictures and wrote down what I liked and didn't like (pictures of phoenixes) about each one, and what she drew up was soo effing perfect! It absolutely blew me away. I didn't have an exact picture in my head of what I wanted, but she instinctively knew. After she got done with this amazing piece of art that is proudly displayed on my forearm, I almost cried when I looked at it, and looked at myself in the mirror because it was so perfect, and she did this tattoo and everything it stands for justice. She will be the only person to tattoo me as long as I stay in the Bay Area. When I have the money, I want to go back and just let her tattoo just about whatever on me (of course I would pre-approve it!).
