Mount Everest. I have lived here most of my life and have not been into this cafe prior to last week. Prices were fair. And service was okay though kind of slow. When I was in there was only a couple of tables and it seemed to take a long time for our server to get to us or come back to us. When she did come by though she was friendly. My husband ordered the buffet. He thought it was good though he thought there was not really many options up there. But what he did have was tasty. I ordered a curry. There menu is not labeled for dietary needs so we were needing to ask. But the waitress did not seem to positive. The curry i got though was gluten free and vegan. It was tasty. While I thought the overall experience was okay and the food was good I would likely not come back unless we were asked to go back by friends. It wasn't somewhere I would choose to go on my own. read more

My spouse and I dined at Mt. Everest Cafe last night for dinner. We arrived around 7:30 and got the buffet. I also got an iced chai and my spouse got a hot chai. The buffet trays were almost empty when we arrived and stayed almost empty for the roughly 40 minutes we were there. We noticed that it looked pretty sparse when we came in but we figured since it was a hour and a half before they closed, and there were several other groups of people, that the buffet would be refilled. But most of the dishes weren't. They refilled the naan twice, the samosas once, and the chicken tikka got refilled after about half a hour when it had no chicken in it at all when we arrived. All of the food was also so cold that we felt it could be risky to eat it, especially the shrimp which was at least room temperature, as was the tandoori chicken. Everything was cold except the fresh samosas and naan. My iced chai didn't taste like anything except dirt. My spouse's hot chai was pretty good and tasting his made me wish I'd gotten it hot but I had no way to know that mine would be so lackluster. We left hungry because there simply was not enough food and it was cold. It was a waste of $50. We will not be going back. read more

Made the mistake of trying this place. It was Friday at 6:30 and decided we wanted some indian buffet. This place was the wrong call. Most of the items were empty. Naan did not come out until we were done. There was one protein curry on the bar and all of the cold bar was either empty or spoiled. If a health inspector had come through they would be out of business. It took us 30 minutes to check out and the two people working there just kept passing me by as i stood there waiting by the register. Giving a "nostalgia boost" to get 3 stars. We used to really like eating here, but today's visit was, let's say, less than stellar. We noted that the Naan was not very good. I did like the Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chicken Curry was okay but quite bland compared to what I'm used to. I picked up a faint-but-there fishy flavor in the Saag. I have been coming to Mt.Everest cafe since I was 3 years old and I am now 23. A plate from the buffet is my absolute favorite meal in the world. I always get the saag, veggie and eggplant curry, naan, and of course the samosas! I have never had a better samosa anywhere else. I love the cozy quiet environment with authentic music and decor surrounding. I live out of state now but every time I visit family I always make sure to come here. It was ok. I'm not certain what else to say. The advantage of a buffet is that you can try a variety of items, and the hot side had about 12 different items to choose from. The naan was good, chicken tikka masala was a bit bland but otherwise ok, some of us really liked the rice pudding, and they had some really good watermelon. Our server was not particularly good at explaining which items were spicy and which were not, so either get the buffet or if you know what you're ordering then you can pick appetizers or entrees from the menu. It was not crowded, comfortable, and generally clean. Price was reasonable. read more

While in Fort Collins on a Saturday, I ordered takeout from Mt. Everest. I haven't been to Mt. Everest in a couple years and, even then, when I have gone it has been for their buffet. So my experience has only been scarfing down a massive amount of food. Obviously sitting inside and buffeting it up is not in the cards in these times of COVID-19. But still looking for something different than the usual while in town I figured we'd order from Mt. Everest. Did an online order telling us it would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived to Mt. Everest 20 minutes later. Upon entering, it's pretty dark as obviously the inside of the restaurant is closed. It took a while for anyone in the kitchen to come out and greet me. A Doordash driver was sitting there also waiting for food to pick up. Someone came out and asked if I needed assistance and I told my name and carryout order. She said the food was not yet ready as they just got the online order. So that is something strange with their online services. It took at least another 20 minutes for me to get my food. The Doordash driver was sitting in there for some 15 minutes after I first walked in as well. Some other gentleman came in and then left so who knows what was up with him? So, in general, it doesn't seem like Mt. Everest is on top of its carryout processing when it comes to COVID-19 so just be aware of that for right now in advance of ordering. Other than that, the food is sufficient and what I'd expect from buffet Nepalese food. Pakora, rice, and paneer tikka masala curry were good. Ultimately, the food hits what you need if this is the cuisine you are looking for so the 3 stars is to identify that it's solid but that they seem to have some challenges on the online ordering/customer service in COVID-19 if your expectations of that are high and you're not willing to be patient. I probably will scale Mt. Everest again when things returns to normal and I want to eat a ton of food at their buffet. read more

Always delicious fresh and nicely spiced Nepalese food. So many great flavors! Since it is hard to decide what our favorites are so we choose the buffet. Lunch buffet has a smaller selection than the evening buffet. So if you are looking to try a larger selection foods and flavors evening time is the best time to go! During the buffet hours they add more selections since everything is prepared fresh. Another person commented to make sure you take only what you can eat at one time. It's a shame to waste food and there is no need for it as one can always go back up, pick up another plate and try more of the delicious food. Price is very fair. A must is the rice pudding... clearly the tastiest I have found and it is part of the buffet! Service is attentive, and the setting/ambiance is relaxing. Daughter and I are from Kansas and stopped to give it a try because we both like curry. To start off wasn't thinking very good thoughts, was 6:30 on a Saturday night and most of the pans on the buffet were almost empty. Had enough for both of us to get a plate to start off with, even though the daughter took the last piece of naan bread, all the flavors were great. Then they started filling the pans with fresh curries and it was even better, then they brought out a pan of fresh hot naan bread and that made the entire beginning a memory. I drove all the way here from Cheyenne craving authentic Indian food. I was greeted by the owner who is a native to Nepal. The lunch buffet showcases true Nepalese and Indian tastes; my favorite dishes here are the vegetable samosa and the spinach saag. A fresh salad bar and warming soup compliments the entrees. When we entered on a Fri night at 6:30, there was only one other couple in the restaurant. We were placed in a booth by the back door. Behind us was a table where a worker bee placed glasses, which was very loud and annoying. The young "waitress" who tried to help us was totally helpless. We could barely hear her, and she appeared clueless. She was not able to get my husband's chai tea on the table without him helping her. The Pinot Grigio was terrible, and so was the service. My curry with shrimp and garlic naan were good, but my husband's lamb kabob was barely edible. The lamb was burned, and the rest of the kebob was a few slices of green pepper and probably a whole onion. They do not have different spice levels, and I had to ask for extra spice. Despite a public negative review from a local food blogger, actually because of it, I was anxious to return to one of my favorites. Just had to see if it could have possibly gone so far downhill since my last visit only a few months ago to warrant being described as "slop" in the newpaper. I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day (actually forbid overpriced flowers and cards) and we always say we are going to stay home and cook. As usual, one side of the bar is filled with vegetarian offerings and the other has a shrimp & potato entree , tandoori chicken and other meat dishes. Overheard several comments from different tables: "This dahl soup is so good...wow it's really good" "This is my new favorite restaurant" "Got some homemade hot sauce for us to try...not very spicy but so good" TIPS: It's NOT fast food, if something runs out, they will replace it- After it's prepared Closed mid-afternoon With only water, the bill is just under $10- about the same as some sandwich combo I've been a fan since they opened and will continue to return. One person's 5 star experience is another person's 2 star meal. My opinion of the food here is based on 5 years of returning (not just 2 visits) and the high rating does favor my drool-worthy opinion of the super star items mentioned above. This was my first Indian food experience in Northern Colorado and I chose Mt. Everest based on Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. As others said it was very quiet (went on a Friday night) with only two other parties in the place. We skipped the buffet as it appeared a little depleted and ordered off the menu. I highly recommend the naan, I went with an order of cheese and one of onion, both were excellent. With 2 beers, 2 orders of naan and 2 entrees the bill was under $40. Still my go to place for quick Southeast Asian buffet foods. If they run out of some food, just go to the kitchen door and ask them to replenish, since sometimes their front facing staff is busy in the kitchen. They are great about cooking up food quickly. When I get there at 11 AM for lunch buffet, they maybe sometimes getting started up and have a copy of dishes ready, but they reward in abundance and quality. Please get only what you can eat and don't let the delicious aromas tempt to over pile. It's sad for them and for others if food is left to waste. Indian cuisine that will send chills down your spine. After 4 years as a student I was never blown away from any restaurant in Fort Collins, this may be the one exception. From the outside this place doesn't look like anything special, however the food is something of another world. With it being nearly impossible to find good authentic foreign food in Fort Collins this place a true treat. The brunch and buffet are incredible and will leave you begging for more (good thing it's a buffet). Though they may not offer a huge selection, each dish is very flavorful and mouth watering. Over this last summer, I was fortunate enough to go on a week-long rafting trip on the Rogue River in Oregon. OARS hired me as a freelance writer to create a short narrative essay about my first experience with white water rafting. We were in the middle of the Wild and Scenic part of the river, detached from the rest of the world. We were surrounded by black bears, towering evergreen trees, and the thrill of the river, all while leaving technology and the comforts of home behind. Yet, despite the lack of kitchen conveniences, we ate like royalty. This happened to be a culinary wilderness trip, and we ate dishes like ceviche, pan-seared filet mignon, and berry cobbler. It blew my mind to realize that it is very possible to enjoy gourmet cooking in the middle of the wilderness. While dining at Mount Everest Cafe here in Fort Collins, a Sherpa-owned and operated restaurant that features cuisine from Nepal and Tibet, I thought that maybe years of cooking experience on one of the most harsh and dangerous mountains on the face of the earth would yield similar skills - the ability to make food taste amazing no matter the environment. But after my first bite I realized that it was a lost hope, and discovered that it tasted more like campsite grub that you gratefully devour because you just survived a bucket-list expedition, and not necessarily a taste that you enjoy while dining in a college city. One afternoon I had a lunch meeting there with my business partners to hammer out the details of our upcoming marketing agency. We decided to go for the lunch buffet, just like everyone else there. I tried just about everything on the line, and was extremely disappointed. Everything was bland, greasy, mushy, and tasted like cafeteria food. The worst part was the tough chewy texture of the beef in the beef curry. The only saving grace was the eggplant curry - this dish was downright delicious with a slightly sweet and savory flavor, and a very mild spice. Everyone at the table agreed that this meal was a flop. I came back again for dinner. We ordered the chicken MoMo appetizer - These looked like familiar Chinese pot-stickers, but they were poorly made. The dough was thick and chewy, and even undercooked at the pinched edges that sealed the dumpling together. The chicken stuffing was greasy, with globs of yellow grease pouring out after the initial bite. I could only stomach one, and didn't want to continue with any more. I ordered the lamb korma, but they were out of lamb, and I had to chose beef korma instead. It was supposed to come with sides of rice and dahl, but only the soup made it to our table. The dahl had a chalky gritty texture, where the lentils had pretty much disintegrated. For a soup that is supposed to be heavily spiced, it was basically flavorless. The beef korma did have a good flavor, and I really enjoyed dipping my pieces of naan in the sauce, but the beef was horribly tough and stringy. Quite frankly, it's the worst beef I've chewed on in a very long time. It was no different than the incredibly tough chunks of beef in the beef curry dish I previously ate at the lunch buffet. After getting full on naan and korma sauce, and leaving a full dish of rubbery beef and oddly chewy dumplings, I left Mount Everest Cafe with a feeling of relief knowing that I'd never have to eat there again. After living a gourmet experience on the Rogue River, knowing that rustic wilderness is no excuse for bad cooking, I had hopes for Mount Everest Cafe's Nepalese and Indian cuisines. Sadly, we pretty much ended up eating cafeteria slop. read more

So my dining companions and I had no idea what to expect out of this place. As it turns out, it's an extremely serene and fairly dressy-looking (though totally casual) place that serves Nepalese (essentially Indian) food. As delicious as my dahl and [gigantic portion of] sherpa stew was, however, it was the naan that really made me never want to leave. My friends had very good things to say about the iced chai, as well. The service was amazing, partially because we were the only party in the entire restaurant for most of our meal. lol Still, though, considering the fact that the man who seated us and waited on us proooobably also cooked our meals (he was literally the only employee we saw), it was a pretty impressive evening. It was the end of a long day. I was hungry and trying to decide choices for take-out. The wait staff ensured I had a nice place to sit with a glass of cool water. Friendly customers made recommendations and staff gave options making it easy to choose. Not only did they package my selections carefully, they brought out fresh naan just from the oven. Oh yes. Earlier in the day, a local mentioned that the owners built a playground for a school yard in Nepal and that they were good people. These good people can also cook. The food is delicious and abundant enough for left overs. I'm a visitor to Fort Collins and I recommended this to you travelers and locals who haven't been to Mount Everest yet. read more

There's not a huge variety of food at the buffet, but what they serve is very good. All two dozen or so times I've eaten here, the buffet has been freshly stocked. Waitstaff is always happy to see and to serve you. It's already pretty cheap, but if you bring in a coupon, you're down in the $8 per person range. Can't beat that for as good as the food is. They also let you reuse the coupon as much as you want. Always finish off your meal with some rice pudding and fruit! read more
