Came here to get dinner ended up eating in for a few. This is mainly a takeout place with a few tables to seat down. I thought the wonton soup was good def gave me more wontons than expected. I had the black pepper chicken it was good but I didn't know it was fried so that surprised me .. I wished it has more sauce so I know for next time. My friends ordered the general tso chicken. I've been supporting this location for over 15 years and they rarely make mistakes; however, today the food was totally off. My egg roll wasn't edible at all. It was very greasy and extremely soft, probably from the soaked up grease. I also ordered the large fries, only to get home and it's halfway empty. This is a neighborhood take out spot and many family members work in there, they don't need to allow those that work today to work alone anymore. There are two Chinese take-outs a block apart. I generally go to the other. Wanting to 'shake things up' I popped in to Mr. Wonton. And well..... here's my assessment: *** I ordered a lunch portion of shrimp with vegetables -- 'white sauce, please'. I ended up with chicken and vegetables in a brown sauce. Note that I paid more for shrimp, and once I was home and detected their mistake, I wasn't inclined to drive back to Mr. Wonton, to rectify. *** The eggroll that came with my meal had that telltale taste of freezer burn. *** Portions across the street are much larger -- even the lunch deals are enough for two meals -- and their eggrolls are always good. I drive past this location multiple times a month. Someone recently suggested I try the egg foo young. I went inside Easter Sunday and was surprised how nice and cleaned it look. The colors were more vibrant than I expected, but the smell of Chinese food cooking I knew I was in the right place. The man at the counter took my order and promised everything will be done in 10 minutes. Both my shrimp egg foo young and shrimp egg roll was very good. The brown gravy that comes with it was seasoned perfectly. I was about to go back Monday, but noticed they are closed on Mondays. It is hard to find good Chinese Food restaurants like this. Great customer service, great food, and reasonable prices! I ALWAYS get the seafood fried rice, the appetizer wings, and crab rangoon. Those items are so tasty that I haven't tried anything else on the menu, Lol. The wings are definitely a favorite, don't forget the packets of hot sauce. First off, my family and I got the Sha Cha Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and the Veggie + Tofu stir fry. All dishes did not disappoint. The BEST Egg Drop Soup in Town! Whenever I'm in the area -- which is often -- that Shopping Center has a great Kroger-UPS- Bank-at least two restaurants and assorted takeout/eat-ins. I call and order a large one. Always hot and delicious with generous portions of noodles and seasoning packages. Menu pretty similar to most area takeouts. I can easily say I've eaten probably 75% of their menu...never had a bad experience here. I think they give you big portions and generous amount of everything. The location is ideal inside a Kroger Shopping center off of Canton Road next to Brewster's Neighborhood Grille. The parking can be totally crazy though. Since you can't park in front of the store-fire lane...you have to park in the same parking lot as Kroger and all of the other businesses there combined. So sometimes I've had to park pretty far from the store because it was the only spot that was available. But it's okay. I probably could use the exercise. I have used Mr. Wonton for over 20 years and the price, quality, and quantity was amazing. However in the past few months the quality of food has deteriorated to a point of not being edible on several occasions. I made several attempts to communicate with management regarding the problem and couldn't get any individual to step up and talk to me or refund my money for the horrible food. I'n VERY disappointed that my experience does not match those of some reviewers whose work I've come to trust and enjoy. We ordered staple Chinese-American takeout - fried rice, sesame chicken and beef and broccoli. The only redeeming dish that saved this place from a one-star rating was the fried rice. The sesame chicken was thickly coated, over-fried and served ina cloying sauce that tasted mostly of cornstarch. The chicken was so badly overcooked that it mostly resembled wood chips in both flavor and texture. "God-awful" would be an improvement. The beef and broccoli was composed mainly of broccoli stems, thick and under-cooked, combined with slices of beef that appeared to be either flanken or brisket cut with, not against, the grain, riddled with gristle and fat. Here again, the "sauce" was an unidentifiable, unflavored brown mass of cornstarch, as if a slurry had been added to the fat in the wok and allowed to overcook and over-thicken. For the first time in my life, I threw out both entrees. Only the fried rice reminaed for lunch the next day. That all being said, I may try this place again, based, as i said, on the reviews of those I trust, assigning my experience to "chef's day off" or "one bad night." Mr Wonton has been consistently good for a few years. They are definitely my choice when getting reasonably priced Chinese takeout. They do have a couple of small tables, but it is primarily takeout. Definitely worth trying. read more
