One of the workers was extremely rude & tried to over charge but the waffles were good.

Lovely place to have afternoon snacks and drinks. Definitely a fun Summertime spot. Service is…read moregreat, the staff is welcoming and hospitable. Ended up having a great conversation with a welcoming patron, who let me practice my German and told me about the city's historical events . Drinks are affordable and the view of the Rhine is lovely.

There were also some chairs and a few tables set farther out, close to the water. There appeared to be 2 fairly large tables inside, but since it was so nice outside, these were not used while I was there. It was also fairly stuffy inside since it was summer. Pulpo is self-service; you go inside to order and then take your food/drinks out to the tables. There were coffees, teas, alcohol, and hot chocolate on the menu. It appeared they made their own iced tea as well, although I didn't get to try it. There wasn't really a food menu, but you could see the food offerings in the display case inside. When I was there, they had a selection of sandwiches, salads, and yogurts. They also had a few slices of cake and some croissants. There was a good selection of gelatos, which could be served in a cup or a cone. I got a latte macchiato for 5.50 CHF, which sounds expensive but is about the price of a latte macchiato everywhere else in Basel. It came in a tall glass and with a small amaretto biscotti. Note that there is a 2 CHF deposit that is returned to you when you bring back your dishes; they give you a little token that you return for your deposit as well. They only accept cash. There was wifi; the password was prominently displayed by the cash register. The lady manning the café was friendly and spoke English well. The café is located right along the Rhine and has a great view. There's also a foosball table that's good for families. Not a bad place to stop for a break when you're walking along the Rhine.

The ambient very traditional in a nicely renovated hall. I've observed the (out of service) tile oven in the corner for the entire stay and I'm still stunned about the beauty of this restored artefact. The food was ... good. Worth the price? Mh, not so sure about that. But again, overall a pleasuring experience.

Absolutely amazing. This restaurant would rank as a five star in the States easily. As an FYI prior…read moreto attending, please understand that food in Switzerland is expensive. You will often spend 100 Swiss Francs per person (approximately 110 US dollars, depending on the exchange rate). With that being said, I don't even know where to start! Started the evening with a glass of prosecco, and sweet potato soup (they put a lump of walnut ice cream in it). It is absolutely divine! We ordered the rack of lamb and the duck. While waiting for the main course, we were brought out delicacies from the chef in the kitchen. Everything paired nicely with their many options of wine. The main courses came out aesthetically pleasing, as well as cooked to perfection. I guess that is to expect from a restaurant that has been around longer than the States. The duck was not over cooked, and the lamb fell of the bone into a sauce that strike your palate. We ended the evening with Swiss chocolates an dessert. Which was mouth watering. We will be back in 10 weeks, and I cannot wait to go here again.
