Took advantage of a buy one get one free burrito coupon and got dinner to go tonight. Both husband and I enjoyed the steak burrito. The steak was tender and flavorful. Hubby liked the hot salsa you get on the side. We were greeted with a friendly smile and only waited maybe 10 minutes for our order the place is refreshingly clean which is a PLUS in my book! I moved back to the village in January and tonight my husband and I didn't feel like cooking; we chose to try this place. Why we haven't yet when we live so close, I'm not sure. Food was cold!!! This was the second time and there will not be a third! Save yourself some time and money and just drive into town to get hot food. Food also doesn't seem very authentic I'm pretty sure the beans were out of a can. Just not a good place to eat. Well I guess I give it a 1 because it was the first time going there and I was highly disappointed with the quality of the taco salad I had. We went there for a coworker's going away and all five of us had never been there before so we thought why not let's give it a try I have tried many around the Lompoc and orcutt area and am having trouble finding one that is consistently good. I had the Carnitas and there were two large chunks of fat in the meat. The bottom of the taco shell was watery. And the lack of salsa was disappointing also. They did not have green salsa or hey red salsa that had any flavor. That was the first time going there and it will be the last for myself. Very disappointing since I'm all about supporting small businesses. The steak was extremely salty, the chips were stale, chewy and no seasoning whatsoever. The burrito wasn't filled with meat as much as there were a HUGE portion/blob of refined beans and SALT. The nachos were not worth the $10, no flavor but oily cheese and hardly any of the protein that I ordered. Last night was our third try at Mr. Taco... First time I ordered beef tacos, almost no meat. They were not happy when I complained. The next two visits were to go, both were for chili colorado burritos, not one drop of red sauce. Each time the meat was wrong, I called last night after we had started eating to complain and was told to bring it back. I explained we had already started to eat and asked for store credit explaining this had happened before. Was told she had told the cook not to make it so hot, this was not my request. The village does need a decent place to eat, have had problems with Village Burger as well. Mr. Taco gets one star because the size of the burrito makes it easy to share, if they could get the order right it would be a good value. read more

So a couple years ago I came in and ask for a water cup to go with my dinner and was told they were not provided. I left and vowed to never return. So I thought maybe things have changed and tried it again the other evening with my wife. I ask for a combo chile relenno plate with two chiles and was told you didnt have one and when I said I'd pay extra for a substitute I was told you wouldn't make it. I took my family to eat here Saturday night and boy were we disappointed. My daughters food was wrong and so was my husbands. When I told the cashier she acted like we were being a burden. It took forever to get our corrected food. Then after getting home I noticed on my phone that they charged my credit card for a tip when I didn't authorize it. This place it horrible. BLAND, BLAND, BLAND... did I mention the food is bland? Wildly overpriced and hands down the most flavorless, bland Mexican meals I have ever eaten in my life. This place makes taco carts in Tijuana look like eating at the Waldorf. Beans are not home made they don't offer black beans only refried, the rice is actually passable but greasy rather than flavorful, no salsa verde There's no regular salsa for that matter. I've eaten here several times now trying different menu items with friends. The other day I was shocked to learn a if you dare order a large burrito with carnitas it's $2 extra above & beyond the menu price of the other burritos. This brings the price, as of the day of this review, approximately $9.50. But the most glaring flaw in this utterly disappointing "restaurant" is, across the board, the food is flavorless and, in case I did not mention it, BLAND. The beans are pasty & mushy... could the just be canned? The meats tried is more like it was boiled or microwave then grilled/roasted rather than properly roasted. Jokingly it almost seems the only plausible reason they're still in business is people in Vandenberg Village would rather not drive into town if time is short. They obviously do not want people to eat in the restaurant either. The unmovable bench seats are so close to the table that even a child has a hard time getting into several of them. Bottom line is I love Mexican food this is not Mexican food. Nothing is really homemade in the whole restaurant. One of the biggest attractions of Mexican food for me is existence of really homemade items on every plate. Add to it a comparatively overpriced menu and after 3 attempts eating here I will never ever go back. And I recommend you don't either...instead drive down the street to Village Burger or drive into Lompoc for a proper Mexican meal that is prepared with care and self respect. Even better visit one of the small Mexican markets where the deli/meat counter offers fresh hot items with true flavors of Mexico. Ultimately one must wonder if this is more of a money laundering venue than it is a restaurant. read more

During my many attempts to get food from Mr. Taco I have only managed to find Mr. Taco open once since it reopened under new ownership. The new owners seem to run the business based on the spare time their busy family schedule will allow, sometimes being closed even during their posted hours of operation. I can appreciate family dedication, but when you decide to have a business, have a business and be there for your customers. If you can't dedicate yourself to your customers, you should not be in business. I will now drive past Mr. Taco on my way to Taco Loco to get my food from a dedicated business owner. read more

My husband and I went to Mr. Taco for takeout today. We ordered a couple burritos, then left the guy behind the counter a generous 15% tip, just for taking our order. (Honestly, I don't think it is necessary to leave a tip for takeout, but last time we went in, I put a "0" on the tip line of the credit card receipt, and the lady behind the counter got super angry, snatched it away, stormed off, practically threw our food at us when it was ready without saying another word to us, so I decided to just do it to avoid further conflict. We only went back after that first incident because it is closest to us, and we were short on time.) Anyways, after signing the receipt with tip, my husband asks for a small cup of water while we wait for our food to be ready. It's hot outside, super stuffy in the restaurant, and I'm pretty sure restaraunts are required to provide water for their customers upon request. Unfortunately, the gentleman behind the counter refused to give us water, in spite of the fact that we had just purchased two large meals and left him a nice tip. I may have been able to get over it, but our burritos were so disappointing, we decided we will just drive a little further next time and find a better choice. Worst customer service ever.ordered 2 burritos with no beans or rice paid the extra cost and tipped .got home to find beans and rice in them . called to politely let them know only to be hung up on repeatedly.went down there to explain what would have happened had my wife ingested the beans and rice and was told sorry Im having a bad day, this from the owner herself as she stated they dont like to make special orders all this after they charged me extra to do this . Hours seem inconsistent, I've shown up a couple times when supposed to be open and it was closed, so I rarely even bother anymore and just drive down to Lompoc. Price is ok, food a little too salty for my taste. Good service, nice folks, but needs some improvement. I have been going to Mr. Taco since I was in elementary school and have always enjoyed it. This is the first time I have gone since they changed over ownership and I am not impressed. The food was okay except for the fact that they have drastically reduced the portions. Again, since elementary school I have been ordering the taco salad which has always been filled but this time it was not. There was barely any chicken or beans and they were very skimpy with the veggies also. Very disappointed. In addition, the gentleman (who I assume is the new owner) working the register was very inattentive... Worried more about his phone than the people entering the restaurant or serving food. He was even reminded by his wife (I'm assuming) who was cooking the food to pay attention. As a new owner I would assume one should be more interested in keeping or making repeat customers instead of giving people a reason to choose one of the other several Mexican restaurants in Lompoc. I decided to try this place out as it is conveniently located. Its small inside (no big deal) it's a little old (no big deal) we found seating in the corner and realized there was a foul smell coming from I dont know where. It smelt like an old rag or towel. Anyway, kind of gross but I was still looking forward to the torta I ordered. The wait wasmt too long. It smelt good but the meat did not seem like carne asada. More like steak. It had a lot if fat and was kind of tough. The only flavor it really had was from the grease. Of course I had a lot of bites that didn't contain any meat at all. They were skimpy on the meat but generous on the guacamole. Maybe because it was already turning brown. Nothing seemed fresh! This is not Mexican food. They probably make better food for themselves at home. I left with a knot in my stomach from being grossed out. I give this one star because the Dr pepper was good. And they did ask how I was doing after I received my food. Didn't hit the spot. read more
