Was looking for somewhere new for lunch with a friend and found this spot close by and decided to give it a chance! I had never had Colombian food before, and was really blown away! Everything is so fresh and flavorful. We each tried the homemade juice, and some of the empanadas, one chicken and one shredded beef. They came out hot, and with a great little salsa that reminded me of pico de gallo, but was a little different. For my main I had the Regular Mazorcada, and I can say while I've never had anything like it before, I can't wait to try it again. Finally tried this spot! I noticed Mr. Patakon a few times when getting Clay Oven next door - they are actually in Clay Oven's former location. As far as I know, this is the only Colombian restaurant on the south side and they did a nice job of remodeling the space and making it bright inside. The menu is pretty extensive and the staff will spend time with you answering questions if you aren't sure what something is on the menu. Everything is freshly made to order and came out nice and hot. I really had a tough time deciding but went with the bandeja paisa, which is a dish that has three kinds of meat, rice, plantain and an arepa. I thought I was just getting chicken but misunderstood that the sausage and pork also came with it, so that was way too much meat for me. I also ordered a beef and cheese empanada. The empanadas were excellent, especially the beef. I would absolutely get that again. My main, I'm not sure mostly because I didn't care for the sausage or the pork. It was a little lacking in seasoning but Colombia may not be known for spicy food. It actually reminded me of something I ate in Cuba! Located in the Walmart Plaza in the spot Clay Oven used to be (no worries they just moved next door) it's pretty easy to find with ample free parking. You order and pay at the register and the menu hangs on the wall. Drinks come by the bottle or the can. This is obviously a family run business and they are very happy to explain the dishes to you. And we found out there are also specials of the day available. I opted for a Colombian drink and was given the choice between apple, orange and "we don't know how to describe it' flavors. I of course had to go with the latter. I would say it reminds me of the Inka Cola (not the Mexican coke, but the golden cola) meets cream soda. I deem this as quite tasty and I would order it again. I went for the special of the day since you can't get this every day. Meatball soup it was. You get a fairly big bowl of steaming hot soup, which has big ole meatballs floating in it. Besides the very savory broth there are also noodles (think chicken and noodle) and mini potatoes cut in half along with vegetables. Now the past/potato combo threw me off a bit, but the problem was easily solved by making sure each spoonful had either potato or pasta, but not both. The soup also came with a side of rice and a plain patakon (think tostones) I enjoyed the beef empanada, which did have a different crust than what I am used to, but taste wise it was yummy. The crust is a bit thicker and reminds a bit of cornbread, soft not crunchy. And then I went for dessert, which is the only thing I didn't particularly care for. Obleas sounded delicous, but the ingredient not listed was some sort of white grated cheese, which just threw me off completely. The rest would have been great, a bit sweet but good...that cheese though... A few of my guests enjoyed various arepas and gave them rave reviews. Others enjoyed Patakones with toppings and those did not disappoint either. I had a bite and liked it. Crispy plantain topped with meats, fixings and drizzled with various sauces. In summary, a great place to visit and explore the Colombian cuisine. The staff is super nice and accommodating and the food is delish. read more

This is a nice little restaurant located in the Walmart strip mall, between Once Upon a Child and the Dollar Tree. So, if you find yourself a little tight on funds and still want to eat, you can grab some of your kids old toys and sell them next door. Being that it is in a strip mall, there are tons and tons of parking spots in the lot that it shares with the other businesses in the mall it is located. I wanted to branch out and try something different, so I ended up here. It took me a while to find the place because the directions on Yelp were off (I submitted an update, hopefully it has been approved). This place serves some delectable Colombian food including patacones, arepas, sandwiches, and empanadas. They also have traditional Colombian desserts and bottled drinks. You can also get popular mainstream drinks as well. The restaurant has a huge dining area with hispanic music blasting throughout. They do not have table service. You place your order at the counter first and they bring you your food. They have their menu on two monitors mounted on walls or you can pull it up using one of the QR codes on all of the tables. I had no idea what pretty much all of the items on the menu were. The woman working the counter, took time to explain which each item was to me. She was very patient, helpful and friendly. I ordered the Arepa Fajita and a Hawaiian Empanada. It took about 10 minutes to get my food. It was hot, fresh and delicious. They both were very tasty and flavorful. This is a fresh, hip new restaurant and I really enjoyed my lunch here. I was very impressed. It was something unique and different. I haven't had a lot of experience with Colombian Food, but after reading the reviews I decided I needed to try this Colombian gem on the Southside. The outside is very unassuming, located in a Walmart strip mall, however when I entered the establishment I immediately felt happy with all the bright colors and festive music. This is counter service and they had their menu posted on the wall near the back where you order. Staff were super friendly. Since I did not have as much experience I asked lots of questions about the food options. They patiently explained each section and had pictures posted as well. I ordered The Chipotle Arepa and a jam filled Arepa. Our order came out within 10 minutes and it was so tasty and fresh! I thought the meal could have gone without the fries, but I understand using it for filler. I am so excited to go back and try more options. I visited Mr. Patakon because a friend recommended it to me. My boyfriend is from Colombia and there are no Colombian restaurants in the Indy area, so we knew we had to try this place. And wow! The staff is so friendly and very helpful. They have the menu displayed on two large TV's. The lady at the counter also showed us pictures of the food on a laptop. She answered any questions that we had about the menu/food. We tried a little bit of everything! We started with the beef empanadas. You could tell they were made fresh! They came out hot and were delicious. They were served with aji (almost like a pico salsa). Next, we tried the patacon loco. It had cheese, shredded beef, and sauce. The bottom layer was a plantain and then it had all the toppings on it, almost like a pizza! The meat was seasoned very well and all of the flavors blended well together! I was glad to see a Columbian restaurant open on the Southside and was not disappointed! I love Arepas but wanted to try something new so tried the Patacon BQ Criollo, as it was explained to me it was like a pizza on a flat, fried plantain for the crust. Generous cheese and meat, very good and gluten-free as many of their dishes are. My husband splurged on the bandeja paisa so we could try a lot of different things. He's sold on anything that has Chorizo and eggs on the same plate. The Chorizo was not as flavorful as Mexican Chorizo, the rest was good, favorite was the beans. This was the 1st time trying this location. I've never had this type of Colombian food before so I was all up for trying something new with the family wait. We ordered two fajita arepas and wto patacon fajitas. They were filled fully with food plenty of steak vegetables sour cream sauces on the side. It was a little bit of a high price for the Meals the two fajita patacans and two fajita basically ran close to sixty bucks to be more precise around fifty eight with tax. Don't get me wrong the food Tasted great it was fresh and fried and crispy and all the things that it should be just not the amount of food or price. I would think for that but this is just my opinion. And I'm not a cheap person or stingy when it comes to tipping or going out to eat but a good comparison. Is I know I can go get? 8 Mexican tacos and 4 gordita's all from a handmaid Mexican restaurant as well and that runs me close to $46 after tax or so. So they're not that far off. For me it was good delicious great service. I just wouldn't come back for the price to value comparison. That's all but other people may love it other people may Want to come by. I would definitely try this place if you've never had it before. It's definitely worth trying for sure with that sort of high pricing and basic portion sizes. I would like to see more steak for the amount of i'm paying for that would make me feel better about my value otherwise nothing to complain about. OH MY GOODNESS. First, they were so kind! They were about to close for the night and took our order anyway. We opted for carry-out since they were closing up. the Patakon mexicana wasn't my favorite, but I'm sure piping hot would've been better. I'll definitely try it again in store instead of carry out. The arepa con queso was good. It tasted like a cheesy biscuit. The chicken empanada was delicious! But the real winner?? THE CRIOLLA AREPA. The meat was tender, juicy, flavorful, I could go on and on! The sauce on it was yummy, the salsa that comes with it absolutely divine. Only open a few months, everything was great. Order at the counter and then food is delivered to your table. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. He explained all of the unfamiliar words and gave great suggestions. While we waited and ate, they played Columbian karaoke with the words projected on the wall so that was fun! I got to break out my 30+ year old high school Spanish and translate 1 word per verse! But it's the food that's the real star here. We ordered a cheese and a beef empanada. The beef came with a chipotle dipping sauce and was crunchy, soft, hot, and excellent. The cheese came with an oily pico- like sauce called Aji. The sauce was excellent, almost like a Thai cucumber oil, but with tomatoes, green onions, and cilantro and the cheese empanada was so good. The cheese stretched out of the hot fried bread and the aji was the perfect compliment. We ordered a fajita arepa which we learned is kind of a little sandwich with corn "buns" that were kind of the shape and size of English muffins but soft texture. We got beef and it had melted cheese, peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Sooo good. But the favorite was the chipotle patacone. It was a base of fried plantain - about the size of a large oval slice of pizza. It was topped with yummy shredded chicken, melted cheese, and chipotle sauce. He told us to pick it up and eat it like a pizza. It was so crunchy on the outside, a hint of sweetness from the plantain, the chicken was tender and spiced great. And again the cheese was melted stretchy perfection. It was mildly spicy, but very very mild. If we lived closer to Indy we'd definitely become regulars. read more

The place is small inside but has a lot of flavor. Great upbeat music while you enjoy your meal. Our server was amazing and had no problems explaining things to us and even explaining how to eat the food we got. Everyone in the restaurant was ordering the passion fruit smoothie so we got one and man am I glad we did it felt like a dessert. Empanadas came to our table so hot we couldn't touch them. The arepa was amazing with great flavor, tender steak and just a delicious freshness. The Patakon Supremo was great and leaned heavily on the meat and wish it had a little bit of heat but didn't deter us and we would order it all again. It is very delicious, it brought back many memories of Medellin, the only thing it needs is a little salt in the food, but the rest is fine.

We came here for dinner and the food was good! The space has a good amount of tables and when we got there we were one of two tables but the restaurant quickly filled up. The decor is bright and fun. The server was friendly and quick. I enjoyed the food a lot. They had plastic silverware and mine did break but I was able to use someone else's. The chairs were a bit uncomfortable since they are metal. I think I would rather order to go rather than dine in for those reasons. read more
