Brought my six year old in today. I saw some blocks and asked how much they were but the store owner said he wants to sell them to a math teacher. Okay? So they're not for sale? Then he asked me how much I want to pay for them. Uhhh... now all of a sudden I have to price your items for you? I looked on eBay and they're $6 for 200 pieces and he wanted us to count. When I informed him of this, he wanted us to count the blocks. Every. Single. Block. Who does that? I rather buy them on eBay than at this store. Indecisive owner, wants others to price his items for him. A lot of these books are way overpriced. I much rather patronize other thrift stores in town that sell just as good literature for a fraction of the price.

Mr. Otto's book store is a great children's bookstore. I was able to find the "No, David!" children's book by David Shannon. There are also a lot of picture books, Dr. Seuss books, chapter books such as Harry Potter series (I recently saw today), goosebumps etc. There are lot of educational children's books as well for math and history. Mr. Otto also has a great sense of humor and is very helpful. You should definitely stop by and check it out, you might find a hidden gem in there!

Hunter got a new library! Thanks Mr.Otto for letting us rummage through your shop. He can't wait to read through all his new books.

So many books, you'll definitely get lost in here. You'll find quality, previously loved reading for your little ones. Mr. Otto is welcoming and friendly. The shop has a wide selection that is constantly being refreshed by teachers retiring and kids advancing in their reading skills. Definitely my new go to spot for buying children's books in town.

This is the best book store in stockton for classic children's books and even new age ones as well. I came in here expecting to look for some novels but quivkly turned into a 7 year old again with all my childhood favorite books. The owner is a groovy guy too! Hes extremely knowledgeable . He knows his shiet about a lot of books not just kid stuff. Remember support people like this and skip out on amazon and barnes and nobles.

What a great owner. So kind and entertained my son while helping us pick out some great classics.

This place doesn't deserve a single star. We went in yesterday expecting a normal shopping…read moreexperience, but instead were met with one of the most disrespectful and unprofessional interactions I've had at any business. The person who seemed to be the owner was rude, arrogant, and clearly has no idea how to treat customers. Instead of being welcoming, he made the entire environment uncomfortable. There was even a family with kids in the store trying to enjoy themselves, and his behavior completely killed the vibe. It's honestly embarrassing to see someone run a business this way. After looking at other reviews, it's obvious this isn't a one-time thing--this seems to be a pattern. If this is how you treat people, don't be surprised when customers stop coming back. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place entirely. There are plenty of better shops out there that actually respect their customers.

LMAO, he starts off his reply saying one of his customers is LGTBQ, which idk why that is even…read moreimportant context, as my issue was not with the customer nor with his employee it was with him. I don't even know if they would appreciate you so carelessly giving out that personal info. He then says I was helped right away. I was helped by an employee yes. Which I mentioned already in my review. Because the comics have no rhyme or reason for organization. You should change that if you want customers to actually find what they are looking for. They would not even have to ask for help ... mind blowing I know. Then he says when I brought the books up I looked very upset lol false. I was only upset after standing there waiting to be rung up . The employee said I had to wait for you (why , I have no clue. In my opinion everyone should be able to ring someone up. That's how good businesses are ran.) Usually in a store they don't have to wait for thew owner or manager to do a simple purchase at the register. That's another tip for you. Then he said I gave a disgusted look at the "LGTBQ" customer. Obviously he is trying to use a very common tactic that's ;lazy when he knows he was wrong. I could easily lie and say you didn't like me because I was the only brown person in there. See my point? I have no issue with anyones sexual preference nor did I have a problem with anybody in that store, except you buddy. He then ends with "sorry you weren't happy but it seems like you would not have been regardless, and that I hope I find a different shop more "suitable"". I would have been happy if I was simply acknowledge at the very least . Here's one last tip. If that ever happens, just tell the customer , "How's it going sir one moment I will be right with you" or better yet tell the person you're talking to , "hold that thought let me ring him up" Or hell you could have done both, keep the conversation with him , while simultaneously ringing me up. It's amazing you don't know these things, maybe that's why your store was shut down for that day I first tried to visit and why it was so dusty and empty. You should treat ALL customers with respect. Seeing some of the other reviews on your tiny store pretty much sums up how you are. Also your store wasn't busy like you claimed, you had the person in there talking to you and me. And maybe one person looking at the stuff to the right of the store.

Just the off chance you're African American and is interested in looking for comics at this…read moreestablishment, I would kindly recommend you go to Al's Comic Book shop on Miracle Mile. When I entered the store, the person behind the counter immediately questioned me on why I was coming in the store today. I replied, by stating I wanted to browse. Honestly I see this comic shop a lot and never had the time to come by and I wanted to check it out while waiting for my order to be ready at Best Lumpia. The shop owner then asked what I was interested in, I told him my husband really likes American comics and then I was going to tell him that I am more into Anime/Manga, but I never got the chance. He stopped me in the middle of my statement when he noticed I had my purse on me (which was medium sized) and told me I would have to leave it on the front counter if I wanted to look inside his store. Now, when I say that I know he has the right to say that, (especially since it's off Thorton Rd. and in Stockton)... the whole thing just gave me the "ick". It was such a turn off. I responded by saying "okay" and then left. Going forward I plan to stick to Al's Comics, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

This place is craptastic…read more Everything is over-priced by a massive amount, the whole store is pretty messy and feels like a garage-sale, the employees are rude and overbearing, and they have the most poorly-run Magic (trading card game) tournaments I've ever seen. They have a selection of comic/game figurines that have been sitting in the store for years, untouched, because of how overpriced they are, same with their old used videogames. They charge $30 for $10 card, as an example. They have no bathroom, yet host 30~person 4 hour tournaments. Every other store I've gone to for tournaments allows food and drinks, yet the owner here will always tell you to take it outside, yet they sell snacks and drinks inside. What the fuck? Poorly organized, haphazard, unprofessional, and downright incompetent is how I would describe it all. Avoid it, you'll be so glad you did. Any online retailer or other local game store is about a million times better.
