This place doesn't deserve a single star. We went in yesterday expecting a normal shopping experience, but instead were met with one of the most disrespectful and unprofessional interactions I've had at any business. The person who seemed to be the owner was rude, arrogant, and clearly has no idea how to treat customers. Instead of being welcoming, he made the entire environment uncomfortable. There was even a family with kids in the store trying to enjoy themselves, and his behavior completely killed the vibe. It's honestly embarrassing to see someone run a business this way. After looking at other reviews, it's obvious this isn't a one-time thing--this seems to be a pattern. If this is how you treat people, don't be surprised when customers stop coming back. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place entirely. There are plenty of better shops out there that actually respect their customers. read more

LMAO, he starts off his reply saying one of his customers is LGTBQ, which idk why that is even important context, as my issue was not with the customer nor with his employee it was with him. I don't even know if they would appreciate you so carelessly giving out that personal info. He then says I was helped right away. I was helped by an employee yes. Which I mentioned already in my review. Because the comics have no rhyme or reason for organization. You should change that if you want customers to actually find what they are looking for. They would not even have to ask for help ... mind blowing I know. Then he says when I brought the books up I looked very upset lol false. I was only upset after standing there waiting to be rung up . The employee said I had to wait for you (why , I have no clue. In my opinion everyone should be able to ring someone up. That's how good businesses are ran.) Usually in a store they don't have to wait for thew owner or manager to do a simple purchase at the register. That's another tip for you. Then he said I gave a disgusted look at the "LGTBQ" customer. Obviously he is trying to use a very common tactic that's ;lazy when he knows he was wrong. I could easily lie and say you didn't like me because I was the only brown person in there. See my point? I have no issue with anyones sexual preference nor did I have a problem with anybody in that store, except you buddy. He then ends with "sorry you weren't happy but it seems like you would not have been regardless, and that I hope I find a different shop more "suitable"". I would have been happy if I was simply acknowledge at the very least . Here's one last tip. If that ever happens, just tell the customer , "How's it going sir one moment I will be right with you" or better yet tell the person you're talking to , "hold that thought let me ring him up" Or hell you could have done both, keep the conversation with him , while simultaneously ringing me up. It's amazing you don't know these things, maybe that's why your store was shut down for that day I first tried to visit and why it was so dusty and empty. You should treat ALL customers with respect. Seeing some of the other reviews on your tiny store pretty much sums up how you are. Also your store wasn't busy like you claimed, you had the person in there talking to you and me. And maybe one person looking at the stuff to the right of the store. read more

AMAZING selection of books! TONS of keys that fill up the store. I was like a kid in a candy store. However, every time I asked how much a book was, he would quote me prices of CGC 9 books when everything I brought to him were RAW books in great condition. I went there with all intention to spend A LOT money. Drove 2 hours just to do this also. Everything I was looking for was there with multiple copies too. Which is great. But, charging graded prices for ungraded books is wildly presumptuous. He should treat everyone like they know better because we do. Why else would we walk in a store full of vintage books? Do better, for your own sake. You'll make WAY more sales. I promise. Make it make sense. I regret bragging about your store now. I hope you change this method of selling because you're a good dude, but your pricing is not okay. Wish you the best and I hope you fix this. read more

Before today it had been years sense I had been in this store. Like at least 10, probably closer to 15 years sense I had been inside. I took my 11 year old nephew in because he wants to try reading comics. My nephew is not a big reader, he does his required reading at school but he has never been one to read for fun. He thought that if he read comics he might have fun with that and enjoy reading for a change. We were greeted once we walked in even though the man running the register was with a customer. Once the cashier, I think he was the owner, had finished ringing up the customer he asked how he could help us. My nephew explained he wanted to get an Iron Man comic. The man running the register walked around the counter to ask more questions to better assist my nephew. He got into detail with my nephew and handed him a comic. He also gave my nephew a sweet deal on it. (Dude if you're reading this you know what you did.) My nephew was thrilled and really excited. He also gave my nephew his business card and told him to come back when he is ready for more and they will set him up with some issues he would like. Not only was the customer service on point, it was simply sweet. The cashier was sooo kind and encouraging. He seemed to read the situation well as my nephew was a little nervous/shy, and he made the kid feel like he was making an awesome decision and that he would enjoy himself. I'm sure I'll be taking my nephew back, or at least hearing about new comics from this establishment. I also browsed while my nephew was talking with the gentleman, there were a ton of collectibles, vintage video games and graphic novels there too. just wanted to say how much of an awesome shop this place is brought in a box of the comics which I expected to be pennies on the dollar and brought my kid to pick up Comics and Pokémon cards in exchange Jimmie the owner brought it to my attention that one of my Comics is worth a couple hundred dollars he could've hustled me not even told me because I really didn't want that much money for the box Comics I really appreciate his honesty and integrity, which makes his business thrive. I will definitely be a continuing customer. Jim is an amazing owner and so kind and generous. I watched him several times joke with kids and even try to give free cards away to a customer who still wanted to pay him. Jim then turned around and gave a little boy in the shop the money and told him to go get whatever he wanted. He gave me a great deal on toys that no other comic shop would take. Jim also was looking for a Hulk poster he wanted to give to me for free for my nephew and told me when he finds it he will call me. He is an honest, small business owner. Even just stop by and talk to him, he will keep you laughing and entertained forever. I plan to go back with my little brothers to play pinball and have a great time. This is an excellent quality comic store. With lots of selection and variety. Out of many comic stores I've been to this is the largest selection. They had exactly what I was looking for. I've been collecting for over 43 years and I've never been cussed out but this individual was disrespectful mean and he rips people off on his prices on comic books so if I were you, I wouldn't even waste my time or money in this store. He literally rips people off on comic books, and I was on my phone looking up prices on eBay and he told me just like this if you wanna fucking better price, then go fucking find it on eBay you're not fucking welcome. This place is really cool! I haven't been back to the shop since I was a kid and that was almost 30 years ago. The shop hasn't changed much since then and I like that because it brings back that old nostalgic field of my childhood. I was immediately greeted by the owner Jim, as I came in with my son who is eight. This was my son's first experience and visit to the store and my son immediately fell in love with the place just like I did when I was a kid. There's a nice selection of comics vintage collectible toys and other pop-culture memorabilia. Jim was very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. It was a pleasure talking with him and interacting with them through my visit. He made me feel very welcomed and he was very engaging. The shop has the same arcade games in the back that I played back when I was a young teenager! Unfortunately the store does not carry sports cards anymore but Jim referred me to a place down in Modesto that I have to check out, it's getting harder and harder to fine sport cards but he does carry Pokémon and all the other kinds of cards that people collect. I definitely or I'm going to return with my son to check out more of his merchandise. read more

First visit to this store today. We left with an Xbox game and a good experience. Because the disc to the game was pretty beat up, the guy just have it to us at no charge. Said he didn't feel comfortable charging us for something that might not work. It was only a $7 old game but still, we are impressed with his honesty and his customer service. He could have seen the scratched up disc and just put it in the box without saying anything. He also have us a recommendation for another comic shop in town we didn't even know existed, so basically, giving us the competition to go to for more stuff. That's another thing I wouldn't have expected. We'll definitely be back for some Friday night Magic games, if nothing else! read more

The store has a huge emphasis on gaming and toys. There are some silver age issues in the front of the store behind the counter and there is also a bin of $1 comics in the back. The comics in the back are mostly from the 90's on up. They are all "reader copies". There is also s small selection of trade paperbacks but it's not much. Supposedly there are more comics to be had but they are in storage. Call ahead. Tom seems to be the person who owns and runs the shop. He's a really nice and open guy. I wish there were more comics available for a traveler like me who is just passing through. The shop should be called "Grapevine Toys, Cards, and Comics." Check it out if you can but don't expect much in the realm of comics. read more

This place has a great selection of anything collectible! The owner is a nice guy and he can carry a convesation. They have the best selection of silver age comics in san Joaquin county. I can spend a whole day here just looking at all the nerdy stuff. The prices are about a dollar or two cheaper than what you would see online, so nothing to special. However they do have some pretty rare stuff. If you love pop culture this place is a must!!! read more

I hadn't been to this store in well over a year but WOW, what a change! It's sooooooooo much nicer than what it was before and the people there actually help you now. They have comics (some really old ones too) video games, arcade games, pinball machines and all kinds of other stuff. The new owners were really nice and not only did they help our son with his trading card game, but they introduced him to some other players that were there. This shop brought back the nostalgia when I would walk here after school as a kid. However, I wasn't very impressed. The store's hardly changed(same window art) with almost zero improvements. The new owners seemed friendly enough with good knowledge of their products but their inventory seemed very limited. The setup of the store seemed awkward too. Nice enough owner, will never shop here again. The owner put a note in the window saying he would be back in an hour, 2 hours later and he was still gone. After coming back a bit later, the door is open, BUT he is not ready to open the store. I am a patient guy and attempt to purchase some of his incredibly limited selection of Magic singles, only to find that he uses SCG prices for his singles?? This ended up being nearly 33% higher than TCG Player median value, the value used near universally at card shops around the country. I left and will not be returning. The owner was friendly enough, but this is not a good place to purchase Magic singles. The Gamers Path or War Torn Front are far better CCG dealers offering a much larger selection at prices that haven't been artificially inflated. read more

This place used to have a ton of anime items now it's just comics, which isn't bad but a bigger variety would've attracted more customers but things are only like this because ownership changed. Pretty sad about it since it was my favorite place to shop years ago. Now we have to stick with Hot Topic if we're in town. read more

Friendly and great place for trade ins!

This is a specialty store. If you want something comicbook or cartoon related from an older time this is your store. They don't have new or recent comics come in but they've done a great job of displaying their older toys of any comic or cartoon. The owner is super nice when he's there and I love the atmosphere. very helpful, nice at first. FNM is cool, great group of guys/girls that play. During the tournements they don't give great prizes and i have yet to receive a launch/promo card for participating in games. I honestly think they just pocket/sell the "prizes" they get for free from wizards of the coast that should go to the winners. Their prices are insane, it is like a card shop in a Airport when they price their items. I mean i understand you have to make a profit, but some things are like 400% profit. Then months down the road i found out they Map their Magic the Gathering booster boxes, and take out the "good" packs, then i found out they weigh the packs for foils (yes there is a difference). they also have their "favorites" in customers it seems like. You are not aloud to pick your own packs you want, and they are not in the booster box like a majority of stores. When you buy multiple packs, they all have different numbers on the back of them, which confirms they map their boxes. For example, when you buy a booster box, every pack (36 of them) has a number on the back and every single one has a matching number. example: every pack in box 1 will have (example) 45B322 on them. and box 2 and so on, will have different numbers. and i believe the old guy "jim" almost every time smells like liquor, is the owner who just plays his xbox, and will help you when he is finished. The place is also very dirty, they do not know how to dust, sweep, mop, god knows what else. if you don't believe me go see for yourself, there is dust every where on all the merchandise. Behind the counter they don't know how to pick up things and clean under it, you can see clumps of dirt in the corners and garbage on their floor. i write this long rant because this is sad. some people especially kids/teenagers and some adults work hard for their money, sometimes save for days/weeks/months so they have enough to buy a couple packs or more, just to have them all pillaged through already by box mapping and their weighing scheme, to get the bad rares. so stay away from this store unless you do not care about all i said. has for the comics/action figures i do not know if those prices are bad or good. read more

I've been going to this shop since Ruth owned it. I've been through Ruth, Todd, Tony, and now Jim. Honestly, all of the owners had their strengths and weaknesses. But he current owner is always friendly, looking to make long term connections with people, and has good business savvy. The staff is playful and helpful, and I call a number of them my friend. For those that play Yu-gi-oh, there is a pretty good number of people that come here to play. Only problems I've had are not enough Magic the Gathering players coming in, hopefully my review will change this. I know the owner is looking to expand the number of Magic players and is interested in expanding to Modern and Commander (EDH) tournaments if there is enough of a player base. Lots of interesting toys from over the years, and a few arcade machines and pinball. read more

I'm a comic collector from out of town and visiting family. Decided to check out the local comic stores and found this one. Most of the books I was interested in were either out of reach or in the back room. I asked about a couple of Silver age books that were not priced from the above rack and it took about 20 minutes or so for the guy to both go to the internet and call the owner and come up with a price that was about 3 times that of the Guide. He was nice about it but apologetic. This place is the reason EBay exists. "Hand on" buying isn't worth it if it costs an arm and a leg. read more
