    Turtle Soup

Enjoyed my birthday dinner with friends! I made a large reservation for 13 guests, which meant we had to order from the limited pre-fixed menu ($100 per person). I knew this in advance. They also let us have the semi-private section for no additional cost. We started off with drinks at the bar. While the drinks tasted good, they were on the lighter side, so I had my next round made as a double. Service throughout the evening was great, so attentive and friendly, and all our food came out together, which I really appreciated. For appetizers, we had the meatballs and onion rings. The meatballs and onion rings were flavorful. I also tried the turtle soup, I wasn't a fan but everyone else at my table enjoyed it. My partner's Caesar salad was good. For my entrée, I had the ribeye, which was cooked perfectly. Could've used a bit more salt. The sides, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and creamed spinach were good. The had about 5 servers bring out our food at the same time. They were on it!Overall, the service was excellent. They did wave $5 cake-cutting fee which I appreciate. I look forward to coming back and will try the regular menu.

Mr John's was our place for our company dinner after a long day at the conference. We were greeted with a friendly smile and quickly brought to our table. Our server was simply amazing! Very informative about the menu items along with the daily specials. He answered all of our questions and even joked around with us and kept the mood light. We also celebrated a birthday and were surprised with a delicious meatball appetizer with the birthday boy having a candle with his. After dinner, again, we sang a second Happy Birthday as our birthday boy was given a slice of tiramisu birthday cake. On with the food!!! Apps were very tasty! As you will see in the photos, we shared them and very happy with the flavors. Our main courses consisted of several cuts of beef and a fish dinner. Not a single complaint on the meats and the various sides that we ordered and again shared. The pictures will do the talking! I can talk to my Ribeye done medium and perfectly served on a hot plate. Juicy, wonderful color, and wonderfully tender! Perfection! As far as the space, the dining area was comfortable. The space was intimate, lots of wood adorned the walls, pillars, and crown moulding. Photos of famous individuals were hung on the walls. If you have the chance to, go here!!! You won't be disappointed by the food and service.

A classic steakhouse - Mr. John's definitely does it well. We came here to celebrate our anniversary and got the celebratory meatball with a candle! We ordered the sizzling lump crab cake and the beef carpaccio. Both delicious, both worth it. My husband had the surf and turf while I had the petite filet. Both steaks were cooked to a perfect mid rare and the lobster came with a whole tin of butter that stayed melted with a candle. It was an intimate place and our servers were very nice. It's similar to most classic steakhouses that you can think of. Certainly wouldn't mind coming here again one day but there weren't aspects to the place that wowed me more or less than others like it.

Visiting Mr. J for lunch as I was visiting The Big Easy. Classic steakhouse decor with Cajun Southern Hospitality. The first aspect that impressed me was the warm service followed by the amazing Filet I experienced . Perfectly peppered and cooked to spec with delectable Bernese sauce . I would certainly recommend the venue and only wish I was hungrier so I could experience more of the menu .

Rich, layered, and well-balanced with fresh elements that worked together on the plate. For entrées, we had a variety of cuts, including the Australian Wagyu, ribeye, butcher's cut, and lamb chops. The Wagyu stood out immediately. High quality, great sear, and finished tableside, which added to the overall experience without taking away from the food itself. Each steak was cooked precisely to temperature and full of flavor. The lamb chops paired with carrots and brussels were well executed and balanced. The sides complemented the meal well and did not feel like afterthoughts. You can also see their in-house dry aging setup, which speaks to the level of detail they put into their steak program. It shows in the final product. The drinks were solid across the board. The Old Fashioned and bourbon selections paired well with the meal and matched the food's quality. Service by Noelle was attentive and responsive throughout the night. Everything flowed well, and we were taken care of without feeling rushed or hovered over. This is not a casual dinner spot, but for a celebration or a night where you want a full experience, Doris Metropolitan absolutely delivers.

It started the moment we walked in. Glancing at the hostess, asking "OK to sit at the bar?", getting a nod, sitting down. An experience we've done in hundreds of restaurants. (We had reservations for a table but often prefer the bar.) The bartender -- whom we believe was named Mike -- started off his interaction with new customers as follows. "Did you check with the hostess?" I nodded in the affirmative, apparently that wasn't enough. "Check with the hostess", he ordered. I got up, went over the hostess stand, and confirmed, this time so "Mike" could see, that it was OK for us to sit at a half-empty bar. (In retrospect, we should have gotten up and walked out immediately, but it was late and even in the Quarter most places were closing for dinner.) You see, Mike clearly didn't want to be working that night. He was rude, inattentive, and condescending. And not just to us, to everyone seated at the bar. Slow making drinks, slow asking for orders, seething contempt for his customers. One time we asked to see a drink menu to decide on a new drink, he said, and this is a direct quote, "Do you want to see it or do you want to review it?" Mike's behavior was clearly well-known to the staff, because another staff member, who was off-shift and next to us at the bar, witnessed this behavior and arranged for a free dessert on the house (classy move on her part). She confided in us that Mike's pretty much always like that, but that he's a buddy of the general manager so seemingly un-fireable. Well, here's hoping someone reads this and thinks the better of Doris Metropolitan, or at least sitting at the bar. Unless you think service you'd get in a Paris tourist trap cafe is appropriate for a high-end steakhouse, you're better off spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.

Now I'm sure the hostess is accustom to people bringing in their pets and lying that they're service dogs, so she told me that we had to sit outside. That's obviously illegal, we got the manager involved, the manager quickly understood that we weren't bringing a pet and got us sat inside. We ordered drinks, they took a long time to come out. I asked the grade of the Wagyu on the Manhattan steak, and the server told me it was "6 or 12 or something" Wagyu obviously comes A1-A5, so I asked him to go check. He came back and said it was A5. Not knowing Wagyu grades, and the drinks taking a while was the only place the service was lacking, he was otherwise delightful. $70 bucks seemed kind inexpensive for an A5, but I had never actually had one before so I ordered it medium rare. We ordered the seafood platter, that was fine, the breading on the shrimp was kinda soggy. Main courses comes out, and my medium rare steak was literally back black and blue. It was still cold in the center. I'm not one to send food back, but I couldn't eat it. Sent it back. It comes back quickly... too quickly, still way under cooked. Sent it back a 3rd time. At that point the rest of my family was done eating and I asked for it to just be removed instead. Which they did, and they boxed it up for me anyway in addition to comping all of our drinks, which was of course very nice. I ended up eating that steak for lunch the next day, and IF it was Wagyu, it was A1, there is a 0% chance that had the marbling to be an A5, I've had prime New York's from CostCo that had better marbling. So I give them 2 stars, the server had some learning to do, been there, but was very nice. They made up for their errors on the bill, I appreciate that, but we still went there with higher expectations. 2 stars is kind.

From the moment we sat down, the staff set the tone--professional, genuinely friendly, and impressively efficient. We began with a trio of starters that showcased both richness and restraint. The foie gras torchon was silky and indulgent, perfectly complemented by fruit confiture and warm, toasted Bellegarde Bakery bread--a classic pairing done right. Marinated crab claws, dressed in a lively chili vinaigrette, delivered a bright, briny punch, while the pickled pineapple and jalapeño chips added just the right balance of sweetness and heat. A cucumber salad rounded out the starters, crisp and refreshing, acting as a welcome palate reset before the mains. For entrées, comfort and finesse shared the plate. The confit chicken thighs were meltingly tender, paired with ham-braised greens swimming in a tangy apple cider vinegar broth. A lovely Dijon cream tied everything together, adding richness without overwhelming the dish. Equally memorable was the half smoked duck, beautifully executed and deeply flavorful, served over a smooth pumpkin-sweet potato purée. The cherry bourbon glaze brought a subtle sweetness, while the pepitas added texture and a nutty finish. Dessert was the perfect exclamation point on an already wonderful meal: a slice of hot chocolate cheesecake, decadent and deeply chocolaty, crowned with toasted marshmallow fluff that leaned just enough into nostalgia without crossing into excess. Toups Meatery continues to deliver thoughtful, soulful cooking with polish and heart--comfort food elevated, served by a team that clearly knows what they're doing. That's clearly communicated when you're greeted, so naturally it sets the expectation for shareable portions. We started with the ricotta and meatballs. Overall, portions felt on the smaller side, but the ricotta, especially at $18, was honestly a bit shocking in size. When we asked about it, a server jokingly said "inflation." I get it, but still. The two guys I dined with come here often and were actually the ones pointing out that portions have seemed to shrink. For mains, we each ordered a pasta. One was a server recommended agnolotti with crab, corn, and roe. It was decent, but the broth felt a bit too loose and could've used more depth and richness. That said, the crab portion was generous, the pesto was great, and the red sauce pasta was solid. We also ordered two pizzas, hands down the highlight of the meal. Easily the best thing we had. One small but off putting detail, the red pepper flakes were served in an open jar rather than a shaker. It made me question how many hands had been in it, especially since it appeared to have been reused from another table. Not the most sanitary presentation. Dessert was a strong finish. Panna cotta, tiramisu, and olive oil cake were all fresh and delicious. Drinks included a cocktail for me and beers plus an espresso martini for the table, all fine. Service wise, things started okay but felt rushed toward the end. We even mentioned we were still picking at food and what seemed to be a manager still cleared plates from the table. The tables themselves are also very small, which doesn't help when you're doing family style dining. Our server appeared to be training someone but never introduced them, which made things feel a bit awkward. Also, when resetting silverware, it felt rushed and a little careless, almost tossed onto the table rather than placed. Overall, the experience was good but not great. The food had its highlights, but portion sizes versus price and some service missteps held it back. 6/10, and honestly it reminded me why I hadn't felt the urge to come back before.
