My rating is 3.5 stars. I also did takeout.
My dad wasn't feeling all that great last Wednesday. My mom called and asked whether I could pick up some food for them. Naturally, I didn't hesitate, especially when it comes to food.
My dad isn't an adventurous eater. He has a set of places that he visits regularly. It's to the point where I know that he visits McDonald's every Wednesday.
Recently, I have been visiting the Scotiabank along Steeles Avenue East, on the south side, between Middlefield and Markham. There are a bunch of eateries next to the bank that I am planning on visiting. I did a quick search on my phone and found Mr Greek Express.
Years back, the closest Mr Greek was on Markham Road, just south of Finch Avenue. I was happy that this location is closer.
I gave the eatery a call and placed my order. I am such a novice ordering from Mr Greek. I used to go there fairly often whenever I was in Greektown in Toronto that I am now rusty with its menu.
I got the original feast for 2 that goes for $33. It includes a choice of two sticks of pork or chicken, or slices of gyro, two individual bottles of pop, and two sugar almond cookies (kourambiethes). It also comes with your choice of hummus or tzatziki, pita bread, and a side. I also ordered another original feast for me.
My parents got two sticks of chicken each. I got hummus and tzatziki for them. For the sides, I got a Greek salad and Mr Greek potatoes. I thought that they could share amongst themselves. I also got whole wheat pitas for them.
After placing my order, I was advised that my order would be ready in ten minutes. Sweet! The woman took down my first and last names, and phone number.
I went with the gyro. My side was veggies. I also got tzatziki and ordered a whole wheat pita. I gave the pita to my mom, who loves all things bread.
My mom and dad are novices when it comes to Greek food. So, I showed them what to do. My mom loved putting the morsels of chicken in her warm pita, putting hummus and tzatziki sauce on top, and rolling it up. She also loved the Mr Greek potatoes. She wasn't a huge fan of the Greek salad, though. It's mainly because she didn't like the feta cheese.
My parents aren't sweets people, so I got their almond cookies. I love almond cookies and these were a decent size. I shook some of the powdered sugar off them. I'm the type who is perfectly fine eating them without the decadent sugar on top. They were delicious.
I had the gyro original feast. I loved the shaved gyro. It was flavourful, tender, and delicious. The veggies consisted of zucchini, yellow squash, broccoli, onions, and carrots. I'm not big on zucchini and yellow squash. I gave several to my mom, but they were seasoned and grilled nicely that I ate them all. Pretty good!
The downside is that there was tons of olive oil in all our food. My veggies had about four tablespoons of oil at the bottom of the aluminum tin. My village salad (it was a tomato and cucumber salad, as I said to hold off the feta cubes and olives), had a couple of teaspoons of oil at the end. Take away the abundance of oil and the food would be perfect.
My dad ate a bit on Wednesday night. He's back to his normal self now. He ate the rest the following day. My mom says that he loved the chicken with the Greek potatoes, too.
The woman on the phone was helpful and incredibly patient with me. I got to meet her at the eatery and she was delightful. She even gave me a paper menu for reference.
Cash, and debit and credit cards are accepted at this place. I paid using debit and had no problems.
I want to come back and give the calamari a try. This place offers grilled and fried calamari. I want to give both a try.
