Yam Yam Churro Corn Dog
Fiona L.

While shopping at the Ala Moana Center I saw Mr. Cow and was really excited to try it because I love Korean corn dogs, but sadly, I was disappointed. I ordered the Yam-Yam Churro, which is supposed to be coated in sweet potato fries and cinnamon sugar--I opted out of the cinnamon sugar, and maybe that was a mistake. The corn dog came out a bit burnt and kind of hard, which made it difficult to eat. At least the hot dog inside was an all-beef frank, and you can't go wrong with that! There's also a little condiment station with a variety of dipping sauce for your corn dog, however they do limit you to 2 condiments. I think the service could use some improvement. Since it was our first time there we weren't really sure what to order and the lady at the counter didn't even bother asking if we needed help or explain the ordering process. As for the ambiance, it's your typical busy mall food court so it's crowded, loud, and fast-paced. when you see an empty table you better grab it right way! I still love Korean corn dogs and might give this place another shot--maybe a different flavor --but I'm hoping for a better experience all around next time.

Cinnamon sugar yam yam and flaming potato with mozzarella cheese
Andrea M.

I am in the Ala Moana food court every week and had seen Mr. Cow many times but usually aim for a slightly more healthy option, but that was not the case yesterday. I also had my daughter with me so we split them. Originally it was intended to be a snack but I was full the rest of the evening so it definitely is very filling and probably meets your daily calorie allotment anyway. I wanted a savory and sweet option so I got the yam yam (sweet potato) with cinnamon sugar and the flaming cow. I was expecting it to be overly oily and a little gross but was pleasantly surprised, no deep fried oiliness flavor, great flavor combos for both. 10/10 cheese pull. It was a little messy (to be expected). The staff are teenagers but they were friendly and attentive. No notes. It may be like a once a year treat type thing but I am glad I tried it.

Formerly known as Myung Rang, Holy Cow Hot Dog, Corn Dogs by Mr. Cow, and now Mr. Cow, it was founded in 2019 by Yunho Kim with its franchised first business in HI. Mr. Cow is a Korea inspired, sugar-dusted fried hot dog on a stick with various topping and sauces, or literally street food that are a variation of a corn dog. The 1st Mr. Cow was started in 2019 at Ala Moana Shopping Center and expanded to a total of five franchised locations in HI by 2025 (Pearlridge, Ewa Beach, Maui, and Mililani); however, the Maui location closed in 2024. The creative and unique corn dog snacks basically use a beef hot dog on a stick and a rice flour (or mochi flour) as a batter to that when they're golden fried to order, they're crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. They can be sprinkled with sugar to make them savory and sweet. I would have never known about Mr. Cow or would have any interest in it if it weren't for my 10-year-old granddaughter, Kayla, who lives on Maui. She loved these corn dogs and would frequent Mr. Cow in Maui as a special treat but was saddened when it closed in 2024. Her recent trip here to Oahu brought us to the Makai Food Court at Ala Moana Shopping Center when she immediately eyed out Mr. Cow in the middle of the food court. She knew what she was going to have for lunch. As I pondered what I would get, I could see the popularity of Mr. Cow with people lining up to order. Okay, let's try it! Unless you know what it is or how it's made, it may be confusing to order; otherwise, you're in line asking a lot of questions and holding back the line. To order, you need to know the following: Step 1. Choose your flavor (sweet or savory) * Mr. Cow Classic - basic beef hot dog * Fried potato - wrapped w/ bite size of potato fries * Flaming potato - hot or mild sauce with Cheetos * Flaming Cheetah - flaming Cheeto crumbs over spicy mayo sauce. * Firecracker - spicy & sweet * Yam-yam churro - wrapped with bits of sweet potato fries coated with cinnamon sugar * Caramel puff - wrapped with sweet barley puffs * Fruity pop - wrapped with crunchy fruity rice puffs * Spaghetti stix - sprinkle of parmesan cheese over marinara sauce * Messy kinako - condensed milk with sprinkled with kinako (roast yellow bean powder) Step 2. Choose your filling * Whole 100% beef hot dog * Whole mozzarella * Half mozzarella (on top) & half beef hot dog (bottom) * Half cheddar (on top) & half beef hot dog (on bottom) * Half cheddar (on top) & half mozzarella (on bottom) Step 3. Choose your sauce * Parmesan cheese * Cheese * Honey butter * Honey mustard * Cheese mustard * Ketchup * Sweet chili * Cheddar cheese We ordered the following: * Whole mozzarella. Sprinkled on the outside with sugar, this is Kayla's favorite. No hot dog, as the inside is entirely melted mozzarella with an amazing cheese pull! Not a snack, but her lunch which made her full until dinner! * Mr. Cow Classic. This was a whole beef hot dog sprinkled with the outside sprinkled with sugar after frying and with honey mustard sauce. Not knowing what to expect, I was surprised how huge this hot dog was and how crunchy the batter was! It was indeed savory and sweet! Now why would you want to sprinkle sugar over the fried batter?! Not bad, and it works! I opted to use a honey mustard sauce for dipping, which was good, but next time, will try the sweet chili sauce. Loved that this was made to order and that rice flour (mochiko) was used, as it was fresh, crunchy, and chewy! I loved it! I had figured this would be just a treat, but it turned out to be a filling lunch instead. Not a healthy item, as it's fried, has sugar, and is a hot dog, but is a good "once-in-a-while treat." We didn't have any problem with customer service, as the ordering process was quick, efficient, and problem-free. You order, pay, and wait for it, which was about five minutes. Staff was young, and we did not have any problems, despite complaints by customers who reported on Yelp. No long lines like when it first opened. This is a kiosk in the middle of the food court, so you will elect to takeout or to eat there. It is difficult to find an open table during peak hours, but we managed to. During peak hours, diners are like vultures, trying to claim tables before they're even cleared! I felt it was best to eat it fresh than to take it home, should it become soggy. Hours of operation are Mon to Sat 10a to 8p, Sun 10a to 7p. Free parking is available at the shopping center. Thank you, Kayla, for introducing me to Mr. Cow, as I would have never ventured into this realm of popular Korean street food that are enjoyed by many! And I enjoyed it too! Trendy novelty item for sure!

Definitely different! First time trying this my wife brought home, was cheese on top and dog on the bottom outside was covered in a sugar like one malasada lol! Was good but very different for me! Anyway keep up the great grinds.

Flaming Cheetah

Located in the Makai food court and plenty of open seating. You choose your Flavor and Filling. I chose the Flaming Cheetah with Mild sauce Flavor and the Half Cheddar & Half Hot Dog Filling. Wait for it to cool down... I was impatient and it was hot but didn't burn me. Definitely a unique place - It was interesting to try with the different sauces and I would love to try more flavors!

Love there hotdogs n cheese dogs different flavors u can pick from there located in Alamoana Mall food court.I come here when im craving it.Hits the spot all the time

The service is quick and these are so yummy! It's in the food court at the mall and it's good quick snack! They have different sauces to pick from to dip it in but we got the hot cheeto one so I didn't think it needed a sauce. It was perfect as is!

Hot Cheeto corn dog with all beef hotdog inside
Hannah C.

I was really looking forward to the hot Cheeto corn dog when I came here today. It looked awesome when I opened the box, but I saw that there was some kind of cheesy looking sauce on it but I tried it anyway. That cheesy looking sauce was horrible! It tasted like a sweet cheesy dressing, absolutely ruined the corn dog for me. I really was not expecting that to be on the corn dog. I also had to wait a good while for just 1 corn dog which was annoying. The workers here are always young and have low people skills. So placing the order is always rough, I wish she would have asked me if I wanted the sauce on it or even told me that it came with a sauce on it. I would have chosen to not get the sauce. Located in a busy area in the ala Moana mall. Also it was almost $7 for this 1 hot dog!

When I first ate here it was called MyungRang Hotdog. It's now Mr. Cow and they have a few locations on the island. It's the same concept and the food is pretty much the same. I usually get the Yamy Am $6.50. It's the one wrapped with small pieces of sweet potato fries. They batter the hot dog with rice flour that makes it super crispy with a little chewiness. I like mine with half a hot dog and half mozzarella cheese. If you're going to add cheese to your hot dog it'll be $1 more. The top half of the stick will have the cheese and the bottom half will be the hot dog. They have a few dipping sauces that you can choose from. I always get the sweet chili. I can't eat spicy, but the sauce isn't spicy at all.

My husband found this place a few weekends ago by chance. My daughter and I just went around to our normal place in the Ala Moana food court and sat down. My husband said he couldn't find anything that he really wanted. But then we sat next to Mr Cow. He saw all of their picture advertisements on their kiosk and wanted to give it a try. He loves hot dogs and that's what Mr Cow is all about. Mr Cow is like hot dogs on steroids. You get a hot dog and it's loaded with all kinds of toppings. My husband got the flaming potatoes. It has flaming Cheeto powder and had potatoes on the outside. It was topped with spicy mayo and cheese. The hot dog wasn't your small average dog, it was actually kind of big. My husband enjoyed it. I took a bite, it's just not for me. I don't like spicy and that was too spicy for me. And I'm not much of a hot dog person. But my husband thought it was a good deal and he was happy that he got to try it.

I stopped by Mr. Cow on a Sunday afternoon. Ordering was pretty quick as there was no line. However, waiting for my order did take about 20 minutes. Mr. Cow is located in the Ala Moana food Court so it's guaranteed that it will be noisy and crowded on the weekends. Its always a struggle for me to find open seating at the foodcourt. The exterior of the corn dog was perfectly crispy. I was disappointed with the cheese pull. Most of the cheese was at the bottom. After a couple of bites, the corn dog kept sliding down the skewer.

Korean corn dogs are in and they are here to stay! Mr. Cow is a kiosk in the food court at Ala Moana. They have a variety of options for you to customize and make it your way. All cheese, half dog, all dog. Lots of options for inside and outside of your dog! You order and they call your number from the side when ready. They have dipping options but honestly, the dog is good all by itself!

I drenched the kimbab in that sauce and it was easily the best thing I tried here. The chive jeon was extra crispy and packed with veggies. I really enjoy the Korean comfort foods! 4 stars for the food, soups, and ban chan, 5 stars if the service was great. Typical service you will get at a Korean spot but no complaints. Just gotta be patient for ban chan refills or if you need anything else, I don't expect much just happy that I get to have my Korean food. During this recent Saturday visit, I decided to go here for our late lunch, after hiking Koko Head Trail & Makapuu. It was about 4:30 pm, we were the only ones there, but it filled up pretty quick an and they do have many take out and Uber/Door Dash orders. My favorites here are the combo set, choice of soondubu (combination, kim chee, spam, beef, sausage, clam,) & either meat jun, fried mandoo, bulgogi, yellow corvina, seafood jun, or BBQ chicken. The combo use to be $20.55 my first time but now went up to $23.55, hence the increase, it is still a great deal, this meal comes with rice and 5 different ban chan. This combo was more than enough for the both of us. My favorite is the spam soondubu ( yes. who picks Spam right?! hehe) & the seafood Jun. Although it so hard to decide since all the choices are good, I will have to visit again for the other selection. The other half and I cannot eat an entire combo set by ourselves. I love the ban chan, especially the daikon & kim chee, so fresh and crispy! When I first dined here, I was surprise to see they give you a fresh egg to crack in your soondubu soup, I am use to the egg already in there. The pork had a really strong boar taint smell/taste, which completely turned me off from ordering any of the pork. We had to ask for more meat and banchan refills multiple times. It also looked like there were only two people working while there were probably around 10 tables during the Tuesday lunch rush, so I do think they were understaffed. If you're offering AYCE, the refills and service should flow a lot more smoothly. It felt like they were paying more attention the tables that selected a higher tier of AYCE.
