I don't always get the chance to leave a review, but this time I had to take a moment--because that crispy roasted duck deserves its own standing ovation. Placed a large order (30 people). They opened earlier than their scheduled hours so I could be at my office with the food for the staff at 12:00 PM. To begin, the service was terrible, and it was very hard to get the waiters attention. The food arrived pretty quickly, but honestly, it was no better than the service itself. I am easily persuaded which is how we ended up in Aventura at Mr. Chef's. I love the classy decor but the bathrooms needed a serious cleaning. The restaurant had only one other table when we settled in to look over the economical lunch specials which include an entrée and soup or salad and rice all for only $11.95. There are 17 lunch specials to chose from and include beef, chicken, pork and a vegetarian Lo Mein. It is offered Monday through Friday 12 until 3 PM. We started our meal with complimentary chow mein noodles that were unlike any of the stale cardboard throw away bags that I've gotten with Chinese take out before. The noodles were fresh, crisp, and wide making them perfect to dunk in mustard and duck sauce for that ultimate sweet and spicy taste. The sauces were also excellent on the egg roll appetizers we ordered before the meal. Lunch only comes with egg drop or hot and sour soup. It was cold out so we both ordered the hot and sour but it was a gelatinous mess. They cheerfully replaced the soup with an excellent salad served with the most delectable ginger dressing. The salad was great but I wish they would offer wonton soup with lunch. For my main dish I ordered the crispy honey chicken. Large chunks of white meat were coated and fried and covered with a sticky honey sauce. It arrived pipping hot and the portion was large enough that I had leftovers to take home. This place is amazing! First of all you walk in and it is THE CLEANEST Asian restaurant you will ever walk into and it has very comfortable sitting too. The dim sum is out of this world, I would put it head to head with any other dim sum anywhere. Egg drop soup is also delicious. The staff is very friendly and polite. I had seen good things about this restaurant on social media so I wanted to try it. Upon entering, we encountered the most unusual server who didn't greet us and was extremely unfriendly during the entire time that we were served. It was almost as if he was mad we came in because he didn't want to have to serve us. Looking at the menu I noted that everything was à la carte and expensive. Apparently, they have a good lunch special Monday to Friday, but otherwise you must order everything separately and prices are higher than average for a Chinese restaurant. The entrées did not come out together, which is always uncomfortable because people are left at the table, sitting there with nothing in front of them while other entrées were served. When the second entrée came out, it was cold, but we didn't want to send it back because we had already had part of our order on the table and didn't want to have to wait even longer until all the food was served. I ordered the roast duck and I would not recommend this dish to anyone. The half duck was cut in bite-size pieces, but was not deboned so each piece had bone in it, and it was very difficult to eat. Not only that it reminded me of the duck from a Chinese buffet that nobody wants to eat. Simply put, it wasn't very good and came with no vegetables whatsoever which necessitated a side order of vegetables for around $15. The sides here are as big as a dinner plate. The shrimp dish that we ordered did come with some vegetables and was very tasty although again much more expensive than it should have been. The overall vibe in this restaurant is snooty. I don't know if this is because it is Aventura or whether they think they have something to brag about, but there was nothing here I would call great. Unlike old-time Chinese restaurants where you might get tea or even a choice of what kind of rice you want with your entrée, you get none of that as everything is served with steamed rice unless you place an à la carte order for a large portion of a different kind of rice and hot tea is an additional charge. One good thing is the fortune cookie they give you after dinner was at least fresh. I would consider going back for their lunch special, but everything else is way overpriced and not worth it in my opinion and the duck served with a side of hoisin sauce was downright terrible although my dogs seemed to enjoy it once I removed the bone pieces. read more

As soon as i stepped in i was being yelled at by one of the workers saying that i am late for a pickup when i had to drive to the restaurant to get there in the first place?! Keep in mind that i dont fly a helicopter and that i drive a car... Furthermore that same worker goes on to report me and gives me a bad rating through the app. I am already spreading the word to fellow drivers and customers about this terrible experience! Came here with my family for the first time. As soon as we walked in we were acknowledged which was very nice. We were seated and our waiter was attentive but they were short handed. The food took a little long to come out but it was okay when it is freshly made won't complain for that. The food was fresh and not greasy which was a plus because Chinese food does have a tendency to be very oily. My favorite was the green tea and beef and broccoli the chicken Longmein was good the chicken wonton soup was sharable and tasted great. Chicken dumplings were really good. We saw The Nutcracker at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. We had three families together and were walking back to our car and was looking for a spot to eat nearby. Mr. Chef's looked ideal because they had a nice and spacious patio that could easily accommodate our party of 3 adults and 7 kids. The staff was very nice and attentive. They immediately sent someone outside to wipe down the table and pull two of the tables together for our large party. The menu looked decent and we ordered several different appetizers and a few big plates. All items to share. They offer fried wontons and a sweet sauce while you wait for your food. Like the Asian food version of chips and dip, fried wontons and sauce. But be careful not to get full on this. We ordered BBQ spare ribs, roasted pork, fantail shrimp, coconut shrimp, wings, dumplings, chicken skewers, Mr. Chef's fried rice and stir fried udon noodles. Everything came out as they were ready, which worked out perfectly. We were starving and had to feed the kids. The chicken skewers were very thin and dry. The BBQ spare ribs were freaking delish and juicy. My kids were obsessed with the roasted pork. The dumplings were ok. The coconut shrimp came out piping hot but I felt both shrimp dishes lacked flavor before dipping in sauce, almost bland. Good but bland. The udon noodles were my favorite and cooked to my liking. The fried rice was ok, could use more flavor. All in all, considering we stumbled upon this spot by accident...the patio seating was perfect for us! I was promptly greeted by a very friendly and helpful woman who helped me map out my order. We order the Chans fried rice, shrimp fried rice, spring rolls, wonton soup, vegetable lo mein and Mongolian beef -- the works! I'll say, we aren't from South Florida and have been on the hunt for great Chinese food. We are yet to find it. My favorites were the soup and lo mein. Very delicious. This will absolutely be my go-to for wonton soup while we are living here. I'll even drive the 20 mins for it, it's that good. The rice was mushy, yikes. The spring rolls and beef were just ok. Food flavor is great, service and cooks are TERRIBLE. I sat over an hour just watching the servers and owner be super attentive to every other table and completely ignore our's. We waited 40 minutes for just refills on water. Over an hour for appetizers and over an hour and a half for our food. "Mongolian Beef" was completely raw after an hour and 30 min wait. Then they brought it back burned and crisp The large pieces of the "General Chicken" were raw inside; Be sure to cut through the large pieces of chicken to thoroughly check. The smaller pieces were just fried and covered in sauce breading. I ended up asking for the food to be packed to go so I can finish cooking it at home. I'm assuming if you are not over 65, you are not going to be taken serious or given the proper attention. It's a pity because flavors are good, but they need new management, new servers, and new cooks. read more
