The service has gotten slightly better, the dumplings are still good (not better than enoodle though), tried their rice cakes and stir fry items... solid. Pan seared dumplings are good & juicy. The scallion pancakes are crispy. Upgrade to 3 stars. ****************************************** I hate seeing small business owners fail so quickly... but this place... after giving them 3 chances... I just don't see myself coming back after my recent visit. The food was just plain terrible... scallion pancakes were deflated, soggy and disgusting; compared to our first visit. Even my 13 yr old who usually eats everything fried couldn't stomach it. Noodle soup was disgusting, bland AF, flavorless and should not be on the menu. How does one f*ck up a fried rice? By making it without any care. Their shanghai fried rice - Worse than any take-out I've ever had. Their only saving grace, crap meat soup dumplings... it's half way decent. Hence the 2 stars, generous They changed the menu item. Couldn't care less about telling their customers??! Really?! Service was slow, inadequate, and the so-called manager is an ahole for (1) lying about their menu (2) not comp'ing a failed dish and (3) forcing unwanted food to their customers. Ah, one of the few soup dumpling spots in Brooklyn. I came on a holiday for lunch, and even though there was ample seating, the max you can fit in a table is like 5, so not the most ideal for large groups. To order food, you mark them on a piece of paper and give that in. We ordered Pork Soup Dumplings, Crab Meat & Pork Dumplings, Pan Fried Pork Buns, Scallion Pancake, and Shredded Pork and Preserved Vegetables Rice Cakes. Everything trickled in one by one. The Shredded Pork and Preserved Vegetables Rice Cakes ($11.75) was a generous portion, and they did not skimp on the meats! The pork was well marinated but other than that, it was your standard oily goodness that I expect it to taste like. The Pork Soup Dumplings ($6.95) and Crab Meat & Pork Dumplings ($7.95) came with 6 each. The skin had a nice thinness to it, and was capable of breaking, which is always my check to a sign of a good soup dumpling. However, the soup was very mediocre. I don't think that "soup" had any distinguishing taste, if at all. The crab had more flavor than the pork. They should also have a dipping spoon for the vinegar! The Pan Fried Pork Buns ($7.95) for 4 pieces is expensive, damn I just realized. But they were perfectly fried and had a flattering golden bottom. There was also quite a bit of juice to that pork inside! Definitely eat these piping hot. The Scallion Pancakes ($3.95) were truly my favorite of the meal. They were crispy and THIN, with plentiful pieces. And because they were thin, you can really taste the fried oily taste that was everything I was craving. Went there on a Friday night in late August, the place had perhaps 4 or 5 active tables besides ours. The food was meh, with one particular chicken dish that wasn't close what my companions said it should have been like. We ordered the regular and crab dumplings, it's alright. Unfortunately, the place didn't have any real spicy oil or anything strong. We plowed through and to another restaurant down the street. To those raving on Infatuation, TimeOut and here, get a grip. A little dive called Little Shanghai Snack Bar (no longer around) in Manhattan's Chinatown would dust this place. However, it could be the current kitchen folks who don't make it like it used to be. I'm suprised I don't have Mr. Bun photos but I've taken everyone I know here! One of my neighborhood go to spots..been here countless times food is always on point. Service quick and effiecent. Serving a teapot of I believe oolong tea with meals every time. Can also ask for tap water on the house. Obviously coming here soup dumplings are a must I always get both pork and crab. My two staple items I get besides soup dumplings are kung po chicken and bok choy, but I've basically tried everything on this menu and was never disappointed. I finally got to taste pork soup dumplings! I've heard about these dumplings for a few years now. I just googled and came up with Mr. Bun not far from home on 86th. They are soooo good I'm sorry I didn't get my husband his own . I only gave 4 stars because I haven't had any of the other food..yet..and I have nothing to compare them with. I will say they were absolutely delicious! I will gladly go back again. I'd like to try the scallion noodles too. The restaurant is clean and workers were nice. They told me it would be a 10 minute wait and it was so worth it. I have a photo of the last two and I almost missed that. Just a delicious warming dish to have on this rainy day. Still as good as when I wrote my 1st review of Mr. Bun. However, besides the soup dumplings, the Drunken Chicken, Beef w. Crispy Noodle and Pancake w. Sliced Beef were all additional winners. The Drunken Chicken is perfectly doused with wine and the flavor of the wine on the chicken is JUST RIGHT. The Beef w. Crispy Noodle here might be one of the best pan fried noodles made in all of Brooklyn. Quite the shocker considering this is a Shanghainese restaurant known for their soup dumplings. The noodles were extra extra crispy and although there was a ton of sauce on the dish, never did the noodles get soggy. There was so much of the vegetables mixed in, we definitely felt that we got our money's worth. The Pancake w. Sliced Beef was another winner here. The sliced beef was surprisingly tender and stuffed into the middle of the pancakes with some hoisin sauce for flavor. The moisture of the sauce was perfect for the pancake as it prevented any dryness. To report, everything served here was still as good as ever, but definitely give strong consideration to these 3 dishes. If I were stranded on an island with just 1 of them, I'd go with the Beef w. I think I passed by the restaurant thinking it was an anime figurine store before I realized it was a restaurant. Once realized, I took the opportunity to dine in. The anime theme continued into the store with a giant One Piece wallpaper. I'd be a delightful kid if I was 10! I've been meaning to stop in here for a while now, and after going through the 86th Street Festival, we were tired and decided to stop in to Mr. Bun for a snack. I ordered the spring rolls and pan fried pork bun and my wife got the vegetable crispy noodles. We were more than pleasantly surprised at the friendly service and just how damned good everything was! My wife said her crispy noodles were the best she's had, and she's a very picky eater. My spring rolls were pleasantly greasy with just the right ratio of cabbage to pork. There was a menu showing pictures of the dishes and corresponding number and you indicate how many dishes you want by checking off the dishes on a preprinted list. We ordered the Pork Soup Dumplings, Sticky Rice Sui Mai Dumplings, House Special Stir Fried Udon, Stir Fried Rice Cakes with pork and General Tso Chicken. Orders came out fast. The Pork Soup Dumplings were the first to come out. They arrived steaming hot and were delicious. The dumplings had a loose minced meat filling soaked in an abundant amount savory broth. The Sticky Rice Sui Mai was okay; rice was a bit to soft for my taste and taste was just meh. The two stir fried noodle/rice cake dishes on the other hand were very well cooked; very tasty with a good wok taste. The meats were perfectly seasoned. The General Tso Chicken tasted more like a sweet and sour chicken but it was still good. The pieces of chicken were nicely breaded and still steamy hot when I bit into it. Complementary tea was a bit on the weak side; more like hot water. Service lacked a bit on attention side but still polite and friendly. Ordered delivery through ubereats here. For 2 pork soup dumplings and a small hot and sour soup , it was $20 (inc. all fees, taxes, tips). When it arrived, it was still warm! They packaged everything nicely but I wish they used a bigger container for the dumplings cause the edges were piled on one another and I was worried that when picking it up, it would rip the other ones. Soup dumplings were super yummy. The skin was so thin - definitely thinner than Lius Shanghai- but did not rip super easily. There was so much soup in the dumpling! They do not provide large spoons but the smaller ones so it can be hard to catch the soup, but I did have big spoons at home. The vinegar provided was sweeter than normal ones I've tasted. The restaurant gave us 1 on the house (apparently there is a promotion going on for if you spend $25+ to receive a free basket of soup dumplings). The Grandma's Pork was really tender and flavorful. Beef + Tripe was tasty but wish it was more tender. Salted Egg Yolk with Tofu was very good and great for the elderly if they cannot chew too much. Highly recommend! Yeung Chow Fried Rice was one of the highlights. It had pieces of ham and some vegetables. Not too oily, not too salty. Seafood Stir-fry Udon is a staple to shanghai cuisine! Must have noodles. The soup dumplings were just okay. It is known that this restaurant is not authentic Shanghainese. The flavors were very Toisan-style (if anyone knows what that means). If you're looking for soup dumplings without traveling to the city, then this is a good option. We went on a Sunday night around 7:30 and there was no wait. Out of everything we ordered the soup dumplings were my favorite. The skin was nice and thin and had a good amount of soup filling. You can always tell it's going to be a proper soup dumpling when the skin is just shy of being transparent. The other dishes we ordered were scallion pancake wrapped with beef, house special crispy noodles and I had a hot and sour soup. All of these were ok, but lacked deep flavors. I used to travel all the way to the city for my soup dumplings craving. Magic word here is "used to", now that I found Mr. Bun, the travel is no longer needed. This is so much better and right around the corner. This is the place to go for their soup dumplings!!!! The soup dumplings are filled with soup (a whole spoonful of soup per dumpling), the skin is soft and the meat is tender. Optimal time to feast on these soup dumplings is straight out the steamer. Tip: order a batch, and when you want a second batch (order again) this ensures the soup dumplings are hot and ready and the skin remains tender and moist. I also ordered their salty egg yolk fried shrimp, so good!! They are very generous with the egg yolk and the shrimp is big and crunchy. A welcome addition to the neighborhood, especially since nearby Liu's is perennially overcrowded and mediocre as of late. I have been and will be returning time and time again for the great soup dumplings. The skin is quite thin and when picked up with tongs, you can see a shadow of the hidden broth sagging due to its weight. Perhaps Mr. Bun can achieve even more translucency but for the time being, the dumplings are fantastic. Rich and full of crabby sweetness, these are the things I dream of on a cold winter's night. However, where Mr. Bun excels in the soup dumplings, it seems to miss the mark in most other dishes. This is not to say they're terrible but they're also not memorable. The crispy noodles, shredded pork, mapo tofu, egg-fried shrimp, and bok choy were good but average. Their Shanghainese specialities such as stir-fried udon, drunken chicken, kao fu (advertised as Four Happiness Baked Bran), and glazed pork belly were lackluster as well. This was a great disappointment, especially since kao fu is one of my favorite dishes (this iteration lacked a strong savory presence to balance out its sweetness). The glazed pork belly was a little overcooked and tough. Having given the menu a fair chance, I've concluded that Mr. Bun's saving grace is the spectacular soup dumplings. No, I did not eat all that by myself. I was with my folks. Mr. Bun delivers pretty far (about 2 miles to my parents' house). The food was pretty solid all around, and my only complaints were probably due to the distance it had to travel. The soup dumplings were just warm. The scallion pancakes weren't that crispy. But they were still good (the XLB especially). The hot and sour soup was more sour than hot, and didn't have as many goodies as some other places. The noodles are good, and come in pretty big portions. I've been waiting for a decent Shanghai soup dumpling spot in Brooklyn for the longest ever. This has been long overdue. There is another soup dumpling restaurant in the Bensonhurst area, Liu Shanghai but every thing there is trash. I've gave them multiple chances but it doesn't pan out. If you live in South Brooklyn and you're looking for some wonderful Dim Sum and delicious Shanghainese food, Mr. Bun is definitely a must-visit. I have tried nearly everything on the menu at one point or another and I have never been disappointed with anything. I usually go with the crab-pork soup dumplings, the sticky rice shumai, the scallion pancakes, the pork buns, and the bok choy as my staples. The pork buns by the way are wonderful and soupy, and if you haven't had Shanghainese style pork buns / bao, you've got to try it. In addition to the aforementioned staples, I also try a few new things each time. During my last trip, I tried their pork roll wrapped in a fried pancake, and the meatballs with house soy sauce, and holy... those meatballs! The flavor of both the meatballs and the sauce itself is so incredibly deep, rich and savory, I just couldn't get enough. Amazing. Came across this spot on our own impromptu asian food tour deciding its not near complete without dumplings! Looked for the nearest spot for great dumplings, this was new and we were not dissapointed. First, the ode to One Piece, to anime in general, I love you all for it. This time almost more than any other we get to love and appreciate great anime. Onto the food, one bite into the crab soup dumpling and I decided that this was one of the best soup dumplings I have ever had and I will be here often. If that doesnt say 5 star taste, I don't know what does. The pork gyoza was also delicious, my wife had an issue with the consistency. I understood her review as it was a little, just a tad, over in terms of how much dough there was, it more or less matched the texture of the soup dumpling when it should be a little less chew. My mom had her shopping cart with her and had to ask multiple times if she could leave it by the entrance. Then when we were seated, the waitress was dismissive and surly. There are very few shanghai restaurants in 86th street, especially good ones but we were craving XLB and decided to come give this spot a try. The restaurant was pretty spacious, something that you would not be able to tell unless you go in. There is a pretty decent amount of seating without the cram which is great- overall it is a pretty well kept space! You place your order on the sheet of paper they give you that lists out all the menu items and you list out how many of what you would like to order. It felt a little confusing but you can ask them to confirm if what you did is correct and they'd verify what you placed so there's no miscommunication! We ordered a regular XLB and a crab meat XLB. Both were pretty good but they were kind of small in size. Each order comes with 6 pieces (specified on the menu) however I thought most give 8 pieces per order?Not sure but we also ordered rice cake and hot oil chicken. The soup dumplings came out first and then the pan fired pork dumplings. The soup dumpling were pretty good, but not as good as the last time when I came. By the time I finished the soup dumplings I was already full so I just tried one of the pan fired dumplings. Those did not taste as good to me because I did not like the filling in it, the type of vegetable used was not to my liking. I ended up taking the rest to go home. Came here on a weekend with my family for some soup dumplings. I read reviews here before going there and many said their noodle dishes weren't that good. Despite that fact, my family wanted to try the Shanghainese staple, stir-fried noodles, so we ordered that with the sticky rice dumplings, crab meat soup dumplings, regular soup dumplings, and scallion pancakes. Needlessly to say, the stir-fried noodles were such a letdown. It was flavorless, the chicken, the noodles, all tasted bland. Me or my mom could probably make a better tasting dish than them. The noodles were also undercooked, making it hard and not chewy. The sticky rice dumplings were also just mediocre. Thankfully, the soup dumplings and scallion pancakes were better tasting and worth going back for. However, the prices are similar to that of Manhattan prices since it only comes with 6 soup dumplings per order rather than 8. read more

We come here or get their take out at least once a week. Their soup dumplings are the best in this area hands down- the wrapper is thin but not fragile, plenty of soup, and the free basket promotion is a really good deal. Not only do they have very good shanghainese dishes, they also have three cup chicken! I have not been able to find anywhere that served a decent three cup chicken in Brooklyn. The small green chili peppers with beef is actually spicy, which is also rare because spicy chinese dishes are hard to find in this area. One very negative criticism is their recent price increase. Several dishes, including the three cup chicken, had prices go up almost 20% with a seemingly smaller portion size. I love three cup chicken, but $18+ with tax and tip on a chicken dish is absolutely absurd. Because of this, I'll be coming less frequently and cook it at home or go to flushing instead. read more

I ordered lunch this morning and they forgot to put the rice inside the order. When I call back and the front desk said I have to give tips to the driver again if he resend the rice to us ! (Is just 7mins distance travelled ）We reject it and try to talk to the manager and the front desk said the manager is busy and they hang up on us.
