Being followed down the road and confronted about not leaving a tip, along with being told not to return when you are working, was upsetting and unexpected. I want to be clear that tipping decisions are personal. While I understand that you work for tips and that this can be stressful, a guest's financial choices are not their responsibility to justify. My husband and I chose to dine at The Well because it has become our home away from home while we are in town, and we take pride in treating both the establishment and its staff with respect. Over the past two years, we have consistently tipped well, from Ryan, whom we met early on around 2 years ago, to Madison, who was brand new hire as of last week. On this particular visit, however, we felt like an inconvenience to you rather than welcomed guests. We also noticed discrepancies on the bill, including two identical drinks charged at different prices, and charges for standard burger condiments such as mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup, which we did not request as extras. These factors influenced our decision that evening. I do empathize with the challenges of working in a tip-based position, and my intention is not to diminish that. However, confronting customers in this manner is not appropriate and places everyone in an uncomfortable position. We value The Well and the people who work there, which is why I felt it was important to address this directly to you.
