This project was not an exciting "Lets update our 20 year old bathroom and make it stylish and pretty". Instead the project started due to an undetected leak, the stress that comes from random water leaking in random places, and was filled with questions and concerns. Countless others "assured" me that this was a plumbing issue or just due to some neglected maintenance on a 5 year old new-install shower - and then wanted to blast holes everywhere to "find" the leak. At the same time, I did not want to rip apart a shower to then find out it might be plumbing and now a full on repair. I felt overwhelmed in making the wrong choice and doing 2 projects chasing my tail. Lucas walked me through all the typical scenarios that he has seen, leaning on the most probably is a structural fail of the shower system and then did a methodical exploration. A couple hours later and a minimal demo, he confirmed that it was in fact not plumbing related and was def. a failure of the shower system -- and walked me through what it would take. Once his team was onsite, they were focused - creating a whole "clean room" at the entry to the bathroom. 1 day demo, 1 day water-proof, 2 days tile - all while providing the proper time for dry-out and leak testing between steps. Lucas is a perfectionist, being critical on the most minor details -- which to someone that also strives for this level, but has no idea what they are looking for, was very much appreciated. They did a terrible job and after their so called repairs my pool developed a large crack along the bottom of the pool. They said they would repair it that fall and then ended up bailing on me and left my pool empty and uncovered for the entire following winter (I had paid them for a safety cover which I didn't receive until the following winter). When they finally showed up again the following spring to fix the crack in the pool, my pool had developed more cracks along the sides of the pool due to their negligence of leaving the pool empty and uncovered all winter. The concrete edging around my pool that they replaced is coming off in chunks. Staples from the "repairs" are literally pushing out of the pool walls. Cruz came out to look at the pool and decided he wouldn't warranty any of the work and wanted to charge me an additional 20k to fix it. I have had 3 other pool contractors look at the work Happy Pools did on my pool and they were all honestly horrified at the state of my pool thanks to the shoddy workmanship of Cruz and his team.

Instead of honoring the contract, Brian is trying to force a "patch job" that is technically impossible for a click-lock floating floor without compromising the locking mechanisms of the surrounding area. 2-The "Extra-Cushiony" Gaslighting When the floor first began moving and crackling, the owner and his Project Manager, Chuck, didn't even bring a straight-edge to measure the floor. Instead, Brian actually wrote us a letter claiming the structural instability was a "feature," calling it an "extra-cushiony step." It was only after we refused to accept this gaslighting and an independent inspector proved the failure that he finally admitted the floor was out of tolerance. 3- Why "Access" is the New Excuse The owner claims he is being denied access. This is a blatant attempt to flip the narrative. We have welcomed a wall-to-wall assessment to ensure the floor finally meets the 1/8-inch manufacturer requirement we paid for. The owner has refused this. He only wants access to perform "localized" patches that would leave our $14,000 investment non-compliant and likely void our long-term warranty. 4- Unprofessional Negligence: * Technical Failure: The crew installed the planks tight against all four walls with zero expansion space. * Zero Preparation: Subcontractors arrived with no knowledge of the scope of work and didn't even know a vapor barrier was required (even though we paid for it). * Scheduling Over Quality: They attempted to install over a wet slab only 24 hours after abatement. ***Final Verdict:*** FCI Chicago North Side skips the most important steps (leveling and moisture protection), tries to talk you out of noticed defects, and then offers "minimal repairs" once they are caught by an inspector.
