My wife and I developed food poisoning symptoms after our anniversary dinner at Moxie's Steakhouse. Both of us were sick all night after sharing truffle fries, a burger, and steak salad. When I returned the next day to report the incident and request a refund, the store manager (Yamac) was extremely unprofessional. He dismissed my request for compensation of any kind, called me "just a person off the street," and even threatened to press charges when I warned other diners about our experience. UPDATE: The regional manager Nic reached out and handled matters differently. He acknowledged Yamac's poor response and remedied the situation respectfully and professionally. While the initial food safety issue and Yamac's terrible response were unacceptable, Nic's intervention shows that leadership does care about making things right when problems occur. read more

Dropped in for lunch in early May 2022 with a friend. Haven't been here since the Covid insanity started, so I was interested to see how they've been doing. First impression is that the place is rather less busy than before, though it was a latish lunchtime on a Tuesday, so probably not an ideal time. Service was fine and we quickly had drinks, though I have to say that the margarita was not only eye wateringly expensive, but also a little on the small side. Food was excellent, as ever, with a shout out to the calimares which were outstanding. I've commented before on the vague sense of a lack of atmosphere, but I won't harp on because we weren't there at anything like peak time. Still a really nice place for something a bit more intimate than just hitting a bar and I'll definitely be back. read more

Coming from the states this place just feels like an overly priced TGI fridays. The apps were overly priced for the smallest portions that were supposed to be shareable, and unfortunately our food was cold so that doesn't make it a pleasant experience! The food was great. Definitely worth going for. It is on the expensive side so be prepared, but the food was worth it. There were a couple of mistakes on my bill and I would suggest checking it before you leave. That would make it much easier to get corrected. read more

I've been eating at various Moxies establishments across the country for almost 20 years now, and while there have been some minor changes with the menu, they still consistently deliver a good product wherever they are. The food and service I've had at this particular location has always been good. The ambience and decor feels very modern yet warm. The food is what I would call "Canadian fusion" with lots of Asian influences, as well as Italian, Indian etc. Some appetizers I've really enjoyed here are the dumplings/pot stickers (I like the sauce) and the lettuce wraps which are DIY. As for the entrees, their rice bowls are really good, and I've heard great things about the steaks and burgers. If you're health conscious, be sure to check the nutritional information beforehand (it's easy to find online) because some of the "healthy" looking options are secretly loaded with enough calories to feed a family (an example would be the salmon cobb salad which is about as many calories as 3 McDonalds burgers.). I often go with my 7 year old nieces, and love that the servers hand out coloring paper and crayons. Keeps them occupied for a while! read more

My wife and I had a rare night without kids and opted for something close so we went with Moxie's. This was my first time having anything other than wings at this location. The parking lot was packed and the restaurant looked hoppin'. However, it is cavernous inside and we were seated without any delay. We asked to be seated in an area that was a little quieter than the main dining area or bar and they directed us to an area close to the kitchen. It was neat; rather than booths this part of the restaurant had lots of bench seating and a glass wall separates the kitchen. This provides entertainment in its own right. On the trek to our table we ran into two other tables of friends and we stopped to catch up. I was impressed that if the hostess was impatient she didn't show it. Our server informed us it was craft beer night. That got my attention. They had local brews from Spindrift and Garrison on tap $6 for a 16oz glass. I went with the Spindrift. My wife ordered an excellent organic pinot noir. I had previously reported that they didn't carry anything local; looks like this has changed. Scanning the menu I also noticed that you can get half-sized versions of their sandwiches for lunch. Not sure if this is a new addition or if the hostess I had popped into ask didn't know her stuff. Even though I felt slightly guilty ordering non-burger sandwich, during burger week I went with the french dip and my wife got the parm prosciutto chicken on focaccia. I got the plain fries and she "sided" with the sweet potato variety. Our food arrived promptly., After a couple bites we switched half our sandwiches- aw aren't we cute? The french dip tasted bland and mushy; there was supposed to be a melted cheese in the mix but I didn't taste it. The sour dough bread should have been toasted. And I stole a few of her sweet potato fries; they were the best part of both or meals. The focaccia chicken parm was flavourful and the better choice. The regular fries were pretty flavourless and un-inspiiring even after I dunked them in the au juice. Springing the extra couple bucks for the sweet potato version was so worth it; I'll never order the regular version again. Our bill came to just under $60 before tip for the two drinks and sandwiches. The decor and service stand out while the food is just mediocre. I do think you can have excellent meals at a chain restaurant. This could just be what we ordered. The table next to us had some excellent looking calamari and a cob salad. I usually have great luck at this Moxie's. I find it's a little more expensive than other chain restaurants but don't mind paying extra because of the quality. Tonight the food was its usual tasty quality, they actually have a pretty good gluten free bun for their burgers. My issue tonight was that my server all but ignored me. She was friendly enough but I only interacted with her twice. The first when she took my order and the second when I paid. My water glass was empty for most of my meal and I would have had a second drink except she never came back to check on me. read more

I actually had a really great experience at this location. Mike and I went for lunch on a Saturday, and it was pleasantly not busy on the lounge side. The decor is upscale for a franchise, with a large dining room, a semi-private room for parties, and a spacious lounge area. Their menu has very good variety for someone who is both vegetarian and lactose intolerant (I can feel all the eye rolls from here ;-). I ordered the portobello mushroom burger and asked for no cheese. The server, Ausha (hope I've spelled her name right) checked with the kitchen to see what else contained dairy in the dish and conferred with me to ensure there were no possible issues. No server has ever done that before, and I really appreciated being taken seriously. The mushroom burger was absolutely delicious. Mike had a loaded burger, which was also delicious. Their drink menu is extensive and includes some local options. Prices are a bit on the steep side, but it's worth it. We did try the Dartmouth location years ago and were underwhelmed. I'm so glad they've picked up their game. We'll definitely be returning. read more

I have always had an incredible time when visiting Moxie's, I was so disappointed with my experience today. I had ordered a Medium steak which came back to me, not once, but twice so rare I couldn't believe it. The waitress was incredible and never once made me feel bad for sending the meal back, but after the second time receiving my steak I should have sent it back for good but I couldn't bare doing that. I had half of the 10oz steak and most of it was still rare and I'm still feeling quite sick to my stomach over it. Thank you Moxie's for taking the drink off of the bill, but I probably won't be coming back for a while. read more

Evening of July 14, 2022 Went to Moxies as a party of 2 families. My wife has a severe intolerance to onions. She ordered the Chicken Alfredo, and was assured no onions would be added to it. No onions were immediately evident, but when she reached the bottom of the bowl, she realized there were some. She counted up to 15 diced onion pieces before she stopped. We brought this to attention of our server, whose name I unfortunately do not remember, who brought out the Manager, who I believe was named Greg. Greg was condescending, saying that he realized some people have a 'preference' of no onions. She responded that she would be paying for that mistake the rest of the night, to which Greg felt it best to quip that she at least wouldn't have to pay for the meal. Then he offered a free desert, as if adding sugar and lactose to an inflamed intestinal system was the best choice. We then had to ask multiple times for the bill, and when the server brought it, she dropped the tray and wandered off to another table. When she finally came back, after my wife had fled the restaurant for the car, she had the audacity to wish me a good night. I said something snarky and left. The lack of empathy or understanding of what their mistake will cause my wife is deplorable. Due to the kitchen ignoring my wife's 'preference', she vomited twice on the lawn before she could make it into the house, and then moved to continue in the bathroom, where she will spend most of the next 12+ hours. read more

We both enjoyed our meals, but I think my wife was jealous of mine. She kept dipping her fries in the mushroom gravy that was on my sirloin. I can't blame her - it was delicious! I've gone to the one in Dartmouth a few times for work lunches and it was decent, wouldn't of gone if I was paying. This place is a trainwreck. My father in law took his date there and couldn't eat their meal, one fish dinner was raw while the other was cooked to death - so the manager working at the time apologized and gave him a 40$ gift card as an apology. His experience was so poor he couldn't bring himself to go back and decided to "gift" us this 40$. We live near by and decided we didn't want to be stuck in there if we also got abysmal food, so we got take out. Ordered a club sandwich with sweet potato fries, a caesar salad, and a teriyaki bowl which came to 45$... Ouch. Was told 20 minutes til pickup - we waiting another 15 minutes once there. Caesar salad was average restaurant affair, nothing fancy or outstanding. Definently room for improvement Club sandwich looks like Dempster bread, a kraft single, dry turkey, a piece of not-so-fresh lettuce, 2 watery tomato slices, 2 bacon slices, and miracle whip. Easily could have made better at home. Underwhelming to the core. There was about 16 McCain sweet potato fries scattered in a massive container, with curry mayo - which tasted and looked like pure curry powder. The teriyaki bowl was so salty it burned the lips, and in the 2 minutes to get home turned into a congealed ball of nasty (keep the sauce off the rice when preparing for takeout silly chef). Had OK flavour but couldn't get past the sodium content. Overall uninspired or gross basic assembled food. You should not be paying their asking price for any of this. Go to Ray's across the street for some real food. read more

The dining room atmosphere at this location is nice, but I prefer the dining room of their sister restaurant in Dartmouth Crossing better. This restaurant caters to the younger crowd of movie go'ers and teens who like to do bathroom selfie's on Saturday evenings! If you're looking for an older (30+ crowd, the bar side is amazing at this location). The dining room tends to peter out around 8:30'ish when the movies are about to start. Have a seat, request a cocktail (which are all equally as delicious), and sit back and watch the tv's at this location. The food at this location is fantastic. I've eaten here several times with no issues at all with the food. I'd highly recommend the med-bread. I tried the calamari this time, which was good, but I've had better, with a side of pita chips. The food is tasty, but I wish their menu was bigger. I find the menu to be limited in terms of what it offers past the appetizers with no frequent changes to it. The staff are very attentive but you will have a decent wait time if you go during rush hour movie go'er time on a Saturday evening. read more

I rarely if ever write reviews unless completely warranted such as the case here. We went to Moxies in Bayers Lake purely because we have found many of the Bayers Lake big box restaurants have been lacking in food quality gradually more and more to the point we stopped going to a couple of them specifically Boston Pizza and East Sides which both have given us less than appetizing experiences at least 2 times each in the last 6mths. Anyhow we decided to try Moxies assuming it would being slightly on the higher end of food quality and service in comparison to most of the Bayers Lake restaurants...unfortunately we assumed wrong. The service was stuffy and hardly sincere, greeted by an almost robotic door server who walked us to our table we looked over the menu which read like some good options. We each ordered our food and it arrived within a decent window of time but clearly at first glance the portion sizes are ridiculously small and appeared to have been rushed and thrown together, but we figured until you taste it give it a chance, which we did, sadly the food quality and taste was lacking even more so. Most of both of our meals were cold, over cooked, and honestly had a zero effort appearance to them to be fully truthful. I had ordered the "double cheese" nachos which may have had...possibly...a tablespoon of cheese on them in total. They were cold, burnt and dry in places, and the portion size was probably 20 chips or so...extremely disappointing and unexpected. The club sandwich had literally ice cold chicken inside, and very little at that on a borderline stale grain bread which had way to many nuts and seeds for a club sandwich, it included a side of cool french fries that sadly were equally as disappointing. I will say a couple positive points, our food waitress was sincerely apologetic and we really appreciated that, she also brought out some new nachos which were definitely better but only after my wife and I shared her food while we waited and honestly that kind of ruined the lunch outing for us at this point anyway. The other positive is she did not charge us for the nachos which was the right thing to do and again we were appreciative of that but unfortunately at this point after all of that lunch just wasn't an enjoyable experience and it was what it was. I really wanted to like Moxies and frankly was excited to see a new option come in to offset the same ol typical Bayers Lake food options we have had for so many years but clearly it didn't work out as we hoped or expected and that's a bummer. Anyhow it could have been a one off day for the cook or the staff but at this point we pretty much may look elsewhere next outing because of it. There is something to be said for consistency and quality especially in such a competitive restaurant space like Bayers Lake. Thanks for trying to make it right Moxies but I just cannot get such a disappointing experience out of my head now. read more

Saturday night 730... The place is packed. We ordered. First they had to change the Keith's draught keg. No biggie. Next they didn't have iceberg lettuce for their lettuce wraps... What restaurant doesn't have iceberg lettuce on a Saturday? Our table ordered the bruschetta. Where do I start, it was shocking : 8 tiny toasted baguette slices with diced tomatoes and 3 miesly crumbles of goat cheese....Where's the flavour? No basil. No balsamic glaze, No onion, no garlic. Simply toast with tomato, $10 no thanks. ( we weren't changed for it) All our mains were great. Our server was great and I enjoyed the company of all the televisions with the hockey and the golf. A bit of a high end kind of restaurant so it's a bit pricey but the food doesn't disappoint, or at least I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the ribs with fries and vegetables and was a very good meal! I also got the white chocolate brownie and it was amazing! Also the bathroom looks like it was built for royalty, it was so nice. Usually hard to find places that have good bathrooms that don't make you want to lose your appetite haha. Would recommend!! Tried several other Moxie's previous to this one, all in Ontario, so had a rough idea what to expect. Staff are young, attractive females dressed in black, and the odd guy thrown in for fun. All very friendly. Large, simple, modern decor with dozens of tables and booths, divided into two different sections. Very nice bathrooms! Wine Wednesdays are great - all bottles are half price, so we often order two for $34. The veggie burger with fries is very tasty, fresh, juicy and GIANT. The mini cheesecakes dessert is good, but just enough to send me into total agony of fullness. The mushroom ravioli (roasted wild mushrooms, arugula purée, truffle lemon sauce & baby tomatoes. $17.99) is very good. My partner also really enjoys the steak sandwich (served open faced with sautéed mushrooms & caramelized onions on garlic ciabatta bread, topped with fresh arugula & crispy onions. 15.99). He also likes their wings a lot, big with lots of meat and flavorful sauces. The lettuce wraps (marinated chicken, fresh vegetables, cashews & crispy chow mein noodles in a ginger soy chili glaze, with chipotle yogurt**vegetarian with soy protein option also available. 15.99) are great. You receive what looks like a head of iceberg lettuce, but it's actually pre-cut into large leafs, and re-assembled into a head. So you just grab a large leaf and start stuffing it with the toppings which are served on a platter. Filling but light, so perfect for lunch. The drink special: GT (gin & tonic, which I NEVER drink, but like this a lot - very refreshing). The chicken chipotle quesdillas (served with house-made tortilla chips, spicy chipotle yogurt, salsa fresca & fresh cilantro + side spring mix salad. 13.99) are pretty good, and can come with the soy option. The wild mushroom pizza (herbed cream cheese, crispy sage & grana padano. 14.99) is very good, sort of rectangular in shape and a good personal size. I was able to finish it but was full. My partner also likes the blackened chicken burger (with sriracha bbq sauce, cheddar & bacon 13.99 with fries), but finds the bun difficult to hold onto (as if it is oil-brushed), so half way through, you may need to start eating it with a knife & fork. The frozen peach bellini for $5 which is to die for, with a gummy frog in the glass for a cute touch. After 6pm you may have to wait for a table, probably not for very long. The Mosaic (12.99 warm, with quebec goat cheese, mushrooms & fresh tomatoes + fresh baked flatbread) is good. Tasty and a perfect appetizer, although not sure I'd order again because I preferred the other dishes I've had. The Ginger Teriyaki Rice Bowl with szechwan vegetables and soy chicken pieces is delicious and a good size. The Herb Chicken Alfredo (soy option for me - penne with herbs & sauteed onions & asiago cream & grana padano. 16.99) is very good and filling, with side of garlic bread. The margherita pizza is very nice. The Asian Chopped Salad (crunchy vegetables tossed in sesame dressing, topped with wonton crisps + toasted sesame seeds. 12.99) is good, but not the best salad I've ever had. Nice to add the soy chicken strips to it again. Also the brunch Mediterranean Scramble is very good (eggs w/spinach, tomato, feta with rosti potatoes and toast. 13.99) served on a mini cast iron skillet. The red Thai curry bowl (13.99 stir-fried vegetables over jasmine rice + curry-buttered naan bread) is quite tasty and filling. The small nachos are pretty good, better than average I'd say, but definitely filling, so only get the large if you have a group to share them. Love that I've been here many times and as a vegetarian, still have more options to try on the menu without repeating anything yet! read more

Tried to go last night for a late beer and white chocolate brownie. Walked in around 9:23 or so and no one at the little greeting counter. That's fair it's late, probably don't need one. So my wife and I walk into the lounge, sit down, take our coats off, browse the small menu at the table.... no one makes eye contact with us, no one attempts to acknowledge us at all. We wait a bit longer. Watch at least 3 staff walk by, not make any eye contact, not acknowledging us at all. 5 minutes go by... still nothing. So we decided to give it one more minute before we were getting up... the minute goes by. And I am trying to make eye contact with a staff. Nothing. So screw that! We get up and put our coats on.. THEN some young waitress decided to acknowledge us!!! Over FIVE minutes of sitting at a table in plain view of at least 3 staff members and not even a glance!!!! I like this Moxie's as we go mini golfing or to the arcade and then stop in for a beer and brownie... not anymore. They missed out on an easy $60 table. We won't be back ever again!! read more

I've been to Moxie's once in the past, and it must have been awhile because I don't remember it being so shitty. Not only were most dishes quite pricey, but the portion size was ridiculously small. You'd think that if you're paying $16 for nachos, you'd get triple the amount (see picture). It's not like Moxie's is a "fancy" restaurant by any means. On top of that, the waitress was condescending and rude. First, we sat in the lounge section and she asked to see our IDs - no problem. Then, she looked at my year of birth and asked me with a serious face, "Um, how old are you..?" I replied with my correct age to which she looked puzzled and said "Oh, yeah I'm really bad at math." If you're checking for IDs to see if I am of legal age, YOU SHOULD KNOW THE YEAR. The whole time we were there, she kept looking at us as if we were stupid for asking simple questions about the menu. At the end of our unsatisfactory meal, she didn't even ask us if we wanted anything else or even how the food was. Poor service, and I definitely won't be back. read more

I've been to this Moxie's 8-10 times for dinner and drinks, and it generally has been a pleasant experience from beginning to end. I'm familiar with a Moxie's brunch from dining there a half dozen times in different locations throughout Alberta. I had the opportunity to do a Sunday brunch with 4 others last weekend, and I was underwhelmed. We were seated quickly, arriving at 11am when they opened. I was confused at first, we received lunch menus, no brunch menus. That was sorted out, we ordered some tasty caesars, coffees and water. I ordered a Sicilian sausage skillet dish, and all I can say is meh. I think it's a pretty straight forward dish, but parts were burnt, and I poked around for 2 poached eggs...I think I got 1 egg and some extra egg white . The portion was small, but I will say, real hollandaise! It felt like there was a newbie or someone having a rough morning in the kitchen. It wasn't busy. When we all received our food, we had to ask for syrup for french toast, ketchup for hash browns and jam for our toast. I can't talk for anybody else's food, but nothing was mentioned, which isn't a good sign. I'll definitely go back to Moxie's, but when i'm craving brunch, i'll be going to one of the local joints that do breakfast/brunch much better. read more
