BUYER BEWARE!! I have been going to Moxie for 3 years. Every 11 weeks, like clockwork, I get a foil and cut. Even though Kerry is the owner I still tip. So after approximately 14 visits (of around $200 per visit) I made a fatal mistake. I screwed up my calendar and missed my appointment. Kerry called and left me a message. I called right back. I called back 2 more times. Due to the timing it's also my birthday. I found out my MIL called and left FIVE messages (trying to buy me a gift certificate.) KERRY NEVER CALLED BACK ONCE. I drove to the shop to see if it was open and she was ok! Yep, she's just ignoring me. She ghosted me because I made 1 mistake in 3 years. Her voicemail message to me was, "You're never late and it's 10 minutes past your appointment time ..." So guess what I now know: 1) one strike, you're out is her unwritten/unspoken policy 2) she won't even give a courtesy call to explain her unwritten policy (there is nothing on her website and no sign in her shop) One bone of contention I've had: - when I first started going to Moxie I got reminder calls - they just stopped and on at least 2 occasions I called the shop to see if my appointment was still scheduled - in today's digital / social age I get reminders from EVERYONE I deal with (doctor, dentist, Pilates, massage, etc.) Kerry: IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE INTOLERANT OF SCHEDULING MISTAKES then put your money where your mouth is and use a reminder system -- I'd have never missed my appointment if I'd received a reminder. And, while I found out the hard way / now have 14 weeks of roots, I'm happy to now see Kerry's character. I have no interest in giving my business to someone who is intolerant and uncooperative. read more

Being blonde is a huge challenge. For years, I struggled to find a stylist that understands blonde hair. After several unhappy experiences, I did some research and found Kelly. She is absolutely amazing! My highlights and hair have never looked better, and I'm quite particular. She is truly an artist, her color is spot-on and beautifully done. There also is no double-booking, she takes her time and is very detailed. Plus her cuts are great as well, and it's hard to find someone who can both cut and color. The salon itself is super cute, relaxing and elegant, with a nice cozy vibe. If you're a blonde, this is the place to go, Kelly is unbelievable! I went for a cut yesterday with Kelly @ Moxie. The hair salon is super cute and very cozy. They can play any music you like and have plenty of beverages while you sit and get your cut or color. (Very relaxing and accommodating) Kelly did an awesome job and cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. I will be coming to Moxie from now on when I need some hair lovin or just a nice blow dry! Kerry is very friendly, personable and most importantly actually knows how to cut hair professionally, which is not something that can be said for most people around these parts. Even my very picky European girlfriend who was starting to think that there are no pros in this field in the US (unless you're willing to fork over obscene amounts of cash) came away very happy. The challenge Kerry faced was especially daunting because stupidly I agreed to help my lady with her bangs a couple of weeks ago. Predictably the results turned out to be disastrous and it's a testament to my girlfriend being different from most women that I'm still among the living. Kerry managed to do what seemed impossible, creatively and patiently fixing the disaster I produced with a single swipe of the scissors. I no longer have to sleep on the couch. For anyone who may be wary of salon visits because of COVID, you should seriously consider going to Moxie. I have been a client of the salon and its owner-operator, Kerry, for about 7 years (which says a lot by itself). I had already been impressed by Kerry's skills and work ethic. But given the current challenging circumstances, I have also been grateful for her dedication to the safety of her clients (and herself), so I want to give her a shout-out. Having now gotten my cut & highlights from Kerry several times during the pandemic, I can say I feel consistently safe at her salon. Each time, she has been wearing PPE (mask, gloves, goggles, gown). Following guidelines, she is currently not doing blow drying. Also, because there's just one chair, there is no one else in the salon when you are there. I think it's about the safest COVID-era salon experience you could have. Beyond that, Kerry's engaging personality makes the salon time fly. She is candid but thoughtful in weighing cut/color options, and her highlighting skills are second to none. Because she is Moxie's only employee, and has many devoted longtime clients, Kerry neither has (nor needs, IMHO) other staff to do reminder calls or to perform non-hair services. I've been to a lot of salons over the years, and I prefer the less hectic, one-on-one experience she provides. Whether during or after COVID, you can't do better than Kerry and Moxie! read more

I went in with a 3 month old barbeshop #4 standard cut. If you are a guy you know what it is, it's like bologna for 4.99 a pound, it's not fancy, but it cuts it. After I got out of the Kerry's place, OMG, I looked like Justin Bieber! Frankly, it is not a compliment for the 36 year old, and I didn't realize that until I got home, but, magic happened to my hair over the following week, I am not sure what it was, but I started to look like a pretty close approximation of an average not-Bieber GQ guy, or so my wife told me. 3 months later... yep, my hair cuts go through a 3 months cycle because I dread it every single time, it still does't look that bad, just a little too long, well... may be way too long, but the thing is I am going to see Kerry, because now trust her magic. You may think that there is nothing better than a $10 cut and you may be right (though considering that the same cuts you can get for free in certain institutions, you should try something else once) Kerry is the person I would trust to make my hair right. read more

Great haircut and dye- super affordable.

I showed up to my first appointment 20 minutes late (damn you, Head of the Charles Regatta). Kerry was able to get me in. I have temperamental curly hair. It grows fast and it grows weird. I described what I wanted in my haircut. I usually get a "WTF?" from stylists, but Kerry talked my ideas through with me, shared her experience on the matter, and went to work. I just went to this salon for my 2nd time. I got a trim and partial highlights. Kerry is great! She really listens. Her trims have been great shape but also allow me to easily use my straight iron and curling iron. I was so grateful that Kerry saved me money by telling me I only needed a partial highlight not a full. I'm so glad she exclusively goldwell coloring products. Top of the line. She plans caked the right camel highlights for my brown hair, she blended them in great and she put enough highlights in. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair. Kerry makes you feel so comfortable at her salon. She is so much fun to talk to, the day one flies by! It is so nice having her undivided attention. It is just her in the salon. So relaxing. I have difficult hair on two fronts--it's absurdly curly (like misshapen Brillo pad curly, not lovely ringlet curly, sigh), and it's gone gray, but I want it RED. Kerry's brilliance with color gives me a bright-but-almost-plausibly mine shade that I love (she even tweaks it a little so I can be bolder in the summer sun!), and she's figured out a way to cut my hair so it does what I want it to do. Can't really get across what an accomplishment this is--maybe it's like the salon equivalent of winning Iron Chef. To top everything off she's a delightful person who makes the whole experience enjoyable. The new salon is adorable--and the free street parking is an extra bonus! Sorry, but just an awful haircut. All choppy on fine hair, and when I showed her the strands she missed, she denied seeing any (the lighting is kind of poor in the shop). Her main interest was in "planting seeds" for future cut and color. She did not seem interested in what I wanted or in learning the characteristics of my hair. Kerry is excellent at cutting. I have had mid length, short, very short and even a shaved head. Kerry works with you and more importantly - with your hair. Plus, she is fun. All I can say is that I left a message for Kelly to call me back so I could make an appointment and she never returned my phone call. I have to admit that I've never had to leave a message to make a hair appointment and it doesn't make me feel good. I'm not sure when I'll get a call back ( in this case I didn't ) and when I do, if I'll be able to take the call. I don't want it to be this difficult to make a hair appointment ! I am so happy to have taken a chance and switched salons to go to Kerry. I live up the street from the salon, but could not quite imagine the sheer luck of having such a great salon so easily accessible. After reading the reviews here and hearing about my neighbor's experience, I went today....and am so glad I did. Kerry is phenomenal - she really listened to what I wanted, but also gave some suggestions. This may sound silly, but she actually explained her ideas in a way that made absolute sense and I could visualize. I haven't always had that experience with hair dressers. Kelly is a fabulous. Referred to her by a family member for a partial foil and cut. She took her time to make sure that my color and cut were exactly what I wanted. I was blown away by the outcome and exceptionally pleased all around. Easy to manage cut, and the color was the best. Spot on and close to the root. She's incredible at what she does. Although the salon is small, it is very cozy and relaxing. I loved that there were not distractions like a large salon. Opportunity to have one on one time with your stylist.
