I get my hair cut by Sean at Barbers Den and he does a great job. I usually just book an appointment online which is really easy and I get a few reminders via email/text so I don't miss my appointment. During the pandemic they do a good job of spacing everyone out and keeping a low number of people in the shop at a given time. You wait for your appointment outside and Sean is always on schedule so I've never really waited long. They seem to follow all of the precautions and everyone wears a mask, making a haircut during a pandemic as enjoyable as possible. There is usually plenty of street pending in the Cushing square area. Sean takes his time getting the cut right and does a good good with communicating/understanding what you style you want. I started coming here towards the end of the pandemic to finally start cutting my hair and haven't looked back since. The cuts are definitely on the pricier range ($40-50 before tip depending on the barber) and about 2x more than what I was paying for my previous haircut. Is the haircut 2x better? Debatable, but it's definitely a better haircut and worth it to me. I often book with Garin who makes recommendations based on your hair type, but will also cut your hair any way you'd like. I've found myself flipping from different parts and he's worked with me on ensuring my hair still looks good while transitioning to a different style. I've also booked with Shane (one of the newer barbers) and he has similarly done a great job as well. I'm surprised at the reviews (I guess they are older) about 15min haircuts. I'm usually on the chair for at least 35min and come every 3 weeks. They have an app for booking which makes things super easy, but also means you'd better book in advance because the place is often packed so book early. Will definitely keep coming here for haircuts and recommend this spot. read more

Had my first cut with Evan on Friday afternoon. Haven't been to a barber in ages as I've been going to the salons for the past 10 years. I was looking for a new local place on Yelp and found these guys. I wanted a modern cut so a barber shop wasn't my first choice but then I checked out their website and read a few positive reviews so it seemed pretty legit. I checked out all their stylists and booked Evan online at their Belmont location. In general, these guys are young, hip, and current on today's trend (faux hawk, pompadour, undercuts, etc). They also do traditional cuts but that's boring. They are master faders so if you like high and tight, this is the place to go. Evan's execution was flawless and he salvaged an already failed attempt of a pompadour from another place. Even with my wild, omnidirectional, thick hair, he made it work and recommended me one of their molding paste that secures everything in place. It's actually going to look better as my hair grows longer. I love it. Shaved about ten years off my age. I'm dinging one star just because I had to wait 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment which I almost ran late on another unrelated appointment afterwards. No big deal. Definitely pricier than what I expected seeing two out of for $ signs on Yelp, but also very much worth it. I've been to some high end Barber Shops like Roosters and Bostonian and I must say this one is definitely in the same league. While Bostonian's charme is in the barbers' entertaining manly dirty talk and Roosters is known for its luxurious, formal appearance of shop and employees, IMHO, this shop strikes the golden middle between the two. Peter, the manager / main barber, is a master of his art, took 1.5h for my first visit, 1h after opening hours, on a Sunday, and created one of the best beard and hair looks I ever had. Including a greatly honest consultation, talking me out of my idea to grow my hair shoulders long based on my hair structure and what would look good on me. he had a nice collection of photos from his Instagram profile which greatly helped us navigate our style planning and the outcome was even better than I expected. The "Peter Haircut" costs $40, the "Peter Beard Cut" costs $20, including hair wash, products for hair and beard, hot towel procedure, and styling. read more

I am extremely picky about my haircuts- and for the longest time, I used to drive all the way to Montreal in Canada to get a good haircut. But one has to be practical, so I decided to give this place down the street from where I live a try. I am writing this review after giving this place two chances, so a total of n=2, but I think that it is good enough to make a decision on whether I'll go here again. I'm not going to mention the name of the barber, given that I did like him as a person, and if he reads this, it will give him a chance to improve. The first time I went here, I asked for a cut starting with a zero at the edges to a fade and leaving some hair above. The barber did a good job, and while I wouldn't say that I was incredibly satisfied with the cut, it was passable (and met my expectation). I didn't have cash to tip during this visit but promised to tip him the next time. A month later, I went back to the same barber. I mentioned what I would like done (which was identical to the ask from the first time), but this time, my cut didn't turn out quite the way I wanted. I did ask him to make adjustments and take off hair where needed, but when I went home, I found (and was told) that the hair was uneven and the fade was random. Over time, as my hair grew, I started realizing that it was a bad cut! I had to go to another place to fix it. While the barber was pleasant, he seemed to be in a hurry- my haircut was done in about 15 minutes. Further, there is no shampoo or anything that comes with the cut (but not taking points away for this). I usually don't worry about paying for a good cut, so I didn't think much about the rates, but for the cut I got and the quality, $40 is a lot (I did tip the second time with cash). My rating is going to be 90% for the cut and my satisfaction, and 10% for the barber and his attitude. I'll average this for both my cuts: Cut 1: 3.5 x 0.9 + 5 x 0.1 = 3.65 Cut 2: 1 x 0.9 + 5 x 0.1 = 1.40 Average = 2.525, I'm rounding this to 2.0, though my rating would've been 2.5. read more

Stopped by for the first time recently and will definitely be back! Super friendly shop and got an amazing haircut, awesome experience.

1st - You can schedule online, which is great because I normally think about getting a haircut really early or late. Very convenient. 2nd - Most of the staff is friendly and interactive. 3rd - They do beards. 4th - The superstar for the win is Evan G. I have been here 5 times now, he is the person I would hunt for if I am going back. I gave him a picture and got immediately got complimented by the wife. 5th - This place is consistent. I am happy with the cut time after time (I thank you Evan). At this point I wouldn't even think of going elsewhere, Evan knows my hair, my likes, dislikes. No real skill here. I went for the first time and asked for a mid fade with a blend up to the top. Got a number 2 up the sides. No fade. The back has no slope to it. Clearly didn't take my actual head into consideration. Could not be less pleased when I got home to actually look at the back since no mirror was ever offered. Awful haircut. Aedan was very patient and I felt fully taken care of the whole time. I told him I was looking to grow my hair out for a perm and he was super great with suggestions. I've been getting my hair cut at a nearby salon for the past year and while it was good I needed a change. The wife suggested I check this place out and boy am I glad I did. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon an hour before closing but still got a cut. I would recommend to call ahead and make reservations because this place does get busy. I have gotten seven haircuts from Gilbert. Gilbert is an artist. He is one of the great barbers I have gone to. The conversation is great each time. He is a charismatic and entertaining guy. This an important quality for an appointment barber to have. Gilbert pays constant attention to the quality of the haircut. When he cuts my hair, I feel like he cares about the way it looks. A haircut is one of the defining traits of someone's appearance. Gilbert does mine well. He's my plastic surgeon. Gilbert makes me look great and feel great. I feel like a movie star each time I walk out of the Belmont shop. I look great all month until it's time to go back. I look forward to my haircuts, which was not true when I was a kid. It's also not true with a lot of other places where I've gotten my hair cut. Gilbert was the first barber who made me look forward to getting a haircut. I'm a dude who usually gets his hair cut at expensive salons, because I want it done right and I'm willing to throw money at any problem that stresses me out. Barber's Den was actually recommended to me by a lady friend of mine that sees Dayna. I was reluctant to try out this cool looking barber shop, because I have an age and coolness complex being in my mid 30's, but the lady who sent me there is a highly trustworthy. When I arrived, my hair was way too long, a mess even. I saw Peter who asked me what look I was going for and he immediately went about his important work. The shop is very clean and cool looking. I enjoyed listening to Peter and one of the barbers discussing the merits of their old school model 10 clippers. In the end, he gave me the exact look I wanted. I've been trying to get salon hairdressers to give me this look for a while, short on the sides, with a little left on top to flip to one side, but they never seemed to want to give it to me. Not always easy for a woman to get a great short hair cut but Steve at the Barbers Den is a true talent - he's been cutting my hair for a while. He does a great job. Barber shops can sometimes be a men's club but this place is more of a middle ground - mostly men or kids getting their hair cut when I come in but I never feel awkward or unwelcome. Their prices are affordable and the service is no frills but professional. I would rather not pay salon prices because I get my haircut so frequently. I don't need a wash or massage or anything fancy! I know there are other girls out there like me and I hope the Barbers Den Belmont continues to be a gender-neutral place. read more

I found this place here on Yelp and figured I try it out since Supercuts doesn't always do a good job. Peter cut my hair and did a great job! Sometimes, since my hair is wavy, it may look different before I get home and rinse my hair out. This time my haircut came out really well! I know this place is a bit more $ than Supercuts, but I liked the work they did. Sometimes, you do get what you pay for.
