I recently used this moving company in December 2025 and also used them in December 2024. In 2024, I was pleased with their service and price of the move, so I decided to use them again in 2025. This time around, I honestly would not recommend using them for a residential move. The movers did not properly protect several of our items and caused significant damage to a solid wood dresser. A few of our plastic moving boxes were smashed and broken. They also put a small dent in the wall while moving stuff upstairs. There was also confusion between the movers and the front office staff. The movers stated they weren't given any "paperwork" so they didn't even know how much to charge me at first. Overall, this most recent move with them was just not good or professional. Not sure what changed in 1 year, but I would not recommend using Moving By Design at this time. read more

During our move, we were in contact with Tim. Tim did charge for insurance during the move which I was glad to pay knowing I have valuable items. We had some furniture that was damaged and broken throughout the move, took pictures and let him and the movers know as soon as they were done and submitted a claim. They have never gotten back to us. We also had a box labeled as electronics that went missing through the process. read more

BEWARE!! Do NOT use Moving by Design!!! I recently used Moving by Design to move. I had used them several years ago and was very pleased. However, this move made in March 2023 was horrible. I had items stolen from me. Was charged $882. Taking about 7 hours...I had 2 bedroom sets, a washer and dryer and no other large items. Just boxes. The items "missing" were all items I had bought new from Amazon. Still in the box. A brand new never opened touch free trash can, and a piece of furniture brand new cubeical organizer. When we were loaded up from my home headed to the apartment, I was going to head out right behind the truck but my garage wouldn't close. The truck got about 5 minutes ahead of me. I rushed to the apartment and beat the crew there wondering where they could be..never saw them on the road. I filled out paperwork in the office and was still waiting. They should have made it well before I did. Seems they stopped somewhere...After the move I contacted the moving crew and asked if it was possible some things were left in the truck. I was not asked to check the truck when they were finished unloading either. My fault there but I'm sure they already dropped the things off that went missing. I contacted Tim, the owner after I had realized my items were missing. He never responded after he asked me "did you check your storage." I don't have a storage. Nothing after that. These items were around $150 or so and I asked for any reimbursements or insurance claim .... No response. Sent pictures of the items boxed up from inside the house. Stacked with all of the other boxes that made it there. No responses. Highly disappointed in the company. The guys also stacked boxes on top of an unboxed tv!!! Charged me for a tv box and never put the tv in a box! I could go on, these guys know what they did. I will tell everyone I encounter about the experience I had and the employees there that are unfortunately ruining the company name. I even ran after them leaving after they finished to tip them before I realized it!!! Smh. I will be sure to direct everyone away from the company I once spoke so highly of. The first 2 times were great, this last time was awful! Almost TWO YEARS LATER, I'm still waiting on payment for all the damage the movers did, including breaking a light fixture in my rental home I was moving from and tearing up my leather sofa (again). They even told me I was going to have to leave a $2000 refrigerator behind because they couldn't figure out how to remove a door and get it out of the house! I had to have a friend come take it off so it could be moved (and come to the new house and put it back on). The truck wasn't big enough for all my stuff so some got left behind (including a picnic table) and the smaller things I had to go back and get myself. We had a positive experience with MovingByDesign. Professional. Prepared. Positive. Reliable. Organized. The only problem came when we needed to pay by credit card. All of sudden we were being charged a big fee to use a card. We were not told initially about any credit card fees. When we brought this miscommunication to their attention a phone call was made and they dismissed the fee. Be careful with credit cards. Had moving by design pack and move. We had them do the packing. They would leave the door open, and the crew up stair would keep turning town the AC to keep up with the hot air coming from the open door. There packing skills where subpar. They damaged a lot of stuff from not being careful. They broke several items during packing and never owned up to it. I would tell them what room to put the boxes in and they would pay no attention. I have moved several times with corporate moves and never had these issues. This move was on me, and have never been so disappointed. I used Moving By Design for my move in June, 2020. They were recommended because they move Sleep Number beds. I will say they did that properly. However the rest of the experience was not good. My furniture is heavy. That said, they only sent two men, one great big guy and a small guy. They struggled with the heavy pieces and the big guy THREW things. My dining table was thrown down in the doorway. The leg was broken off and the finish was chipped off in one place. They manhandled the bedroom set up the stairs. They took the table back for repair and returned it, with the leg glued back on but the chips still there. I bought the extra protection. I would have done better to hire a more careful mover. read more

Do NOT use Moving by Design as your moving company. They came as a recommendation from a realtor. Unfortunately, the insurance premium I paid for $5,000 worth of coverage for damage during moving was not with the insurance company portrayed in their brochure, as I paid it to Moving by Design (per their instructions). Someone noted in another review that they move Sleep Number beds. We have TWO of them and they had difficulty disassembling/assembling them. We incurred damages on our move on 2/22/2021, filed a claim for damages in a timely manner and have heard nothing from them since 3/26/2021. I have no faith that they will pay our claim without arbitration and or a lawsuit. Unfortunately, I think they depend on people not following through on their claims to keep operating as they do. The movers were great, but I asked for 3 guys not two! They never said they started charging when they left the office instead of when they arrived at my home! I called because I needed some heavy furniture moved throughout my house and I cannot say enough about how professional and courteous these guys were. My movers today were Mike and Chris. They got the job done in 10 minutes! I was amazed to say the least and very happy! I forgot to add that this is the first time having furniture moved within my house but they also moved us in our house in 2015. I've had friends use them as well and everyone was satisfied as well. I have over 16 THOUSAND DOLLAR OF DAMAGE to my furniture from a move from this company. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Please read the other 1 star reviews and you will see there is a trend of extremely subpar packing skills which leads to massive furniture damage. (1) I trusted Christina at MovingByDesign when she told me they were experienced and I could trust them. I trusted them to pad and pack my townhouse of furniture into a 28 foot trailer. (2) Upon opening the trailer they packed, we noted immediately that the moving team had caused a MASSIVE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE to the furniture in the trailer in the course of packing without securing or padding appropriately. Wood furniture was wrapped in one layer of Saran Wrap (instead of blankets) and left unsecured. Most of my furniture was ruined - scratched, bent, dented, mishandled and mispacked. Among many other examples, there were huge scratches and dents across my dining room table, lamps thrown on top of other furniture, and multiple mirrors broken. (3) I had bought extra blankets, bungee cords, and I offered to buy more blankets from them if they needed them. I told them at the start of the day if they needed anything, to let me know. I bought them lunch halfway through the day, and asked if they needed anything. Nobody ever told me they were so haphazardly putting things into the trailer so that when I opened it, all this damage would be present. Do not use this company. They have dodged my attempts to work with them to file a formal insurance claim. They have not even offered to refund the price of moving. Worst moving company I've dealt with in nine moves. their packing went really well but come time to load the furniture things went south in a hurry. the crew dropped my ceramic grill which destroyed it, gouged the hardwood floors by dragging furniture instead of picking it up and stripped the attachment screws for the refrigerator handle along with numerous other smaller nicks and scratches. don't believe the sells pitch about taking care of your home or furniture. They did nothing of the sort for our move. After a brief rain delay they even hauled all the wet patio furniture through the house instead of using the side gate. worst of all, after the move they completely ignored my claim refusing to even contact me. I've filled a dispute with the state regulators but understand their ignoring claims is a standard business practice for this bunch. do yourself a favor and skip these clown. read more

This was my second time to contact Moving By Design to move me from one apartment to another in two years. The first time, the move was fantastic. They sent me three very experienced and professional movers. They moved me from a 1 bedroom apartment to a two bedroom. I was so impressed by the move that I knew they would be my to go to movers for any future moves. I contacted them back in April and set up a day and time. I contacted them a second time to change my date from June 26 to June 22. On the morning of June 22, 2020 two men showed up. Not the three men I was promised. I could tell right away that one man had no experience at all and the second man had minimal experience. They completely fumbled the move. My heart is broken and now feel violated by a company that I trusted with all my possessions. Attached are pictures of how they left my furniture. My son had to come over and put the bed back together. It was a disaster and i was charged for 8 hrs of moving. They had about 5 hours of down time. They left at 11:45 am to go to lunch and came back at 1:45 pm but did not get out of the truck until some time after 3:00 pm. They actually left the property with all my boxes on the truck. I filed a complaint with the BBB asking for a receipt and a complete record of the move paperwork . MBD has not responded to my complaint or provided me my resolution. Moving By Design will overcharge you, ask for more money days after the move, and break your things. I have had tough moving experiences in the past, so I decided to hire Moving By Design because they seemed like a reputable company. The movers ended up arriving late, and they charged me for a full half-hour before they arrived. After the move was completed and I signed the full invoice, the company called me days later seeking an additional $120 that they did not include on the $700 invoice. My fault for not writing a review earlier. This was about 3 years ago ... I was referred by my realtor, used them once and had good experience, so decide to use them again. Second time was a different story. Had a horrible, horrible experience. Call to book an afternoon appointment on a Saturday. She told me no, and that it has to be in the morning. Worked my schedule around to have it in the morning 9am sharp. 9am comes around, nobody showed up. Call them at 9:30 and she told me she would call me back. 10am, I called back, she say the driver wife was going into labour and took off to the hospital (hard to believe?). Said movers will come by noon. Movers still not there at noon. Keep in mind, that I have been waiting for 3 hours. When originally, i could have booked in the afternoon. 1pm came around and she had no idea what I was talking about, as if I was dealing with a totally different person. Asked for a discount for the trouble like 10% off , she said no. When coupon comes in my mail on my monthly ads. Movers finally came at 2pm. Showed the movers what needed to be moved. He said these was not on the list to be moved and will not move. Told them i've been waiting for 6 hours and he said it's not his fault. He just received the call. I was so upset by then I told them to leave. Movers I dealt with are provably no longer working there with them, but what a nightmare that was. read more

Worst experience imaginable! We moved into a 4-story townhouse in March. Two of the three crew members (Brett and Anthony) were very pleasant and worked diligently throughout the day. The third (James), wasted a lot of time, argued with me about the placement of the furniture, was careless with items, and put items where he thought they should go rather than where I asked, requiring me to have several items moved to different floors. Several boxes were placed in the wrong room and floor. I am convinced we could have saved time and money with only 2 movers. About 50 percent of our large furniture pieces had minor damage, but it does add up. Fortunately, we purchased the optional full-replacement coverage; however, the business has continuously stalled, not responded to requests, and refused to process our claim due to their high deductible. I was required to sign waivers for some items that I was told were not insured (e.g., a 42" square table glass top). Immediately after signing, James picked up the glass top alone and without padding, spun around the room with it and barely missed the door jamb. I was surprised it arrived with only a chip on one side -- sadly not insured due to our waiver. This business receives an F rating from me. read more

Where do I start. Was told my moving window was 12-6 Pm this Saturday. I called around 12:00 to get an ETA and was told they would be there between 3-5. 4:30 comes along and no word. I call to get another ETA and was sent voicemail. I receive a call from the driver and was told he needs another 2 hours and was told they would be there at around 6:30. In received a text around 6:50 that he needed another hour. At this point we are all exhausted and decide to cancel. We leave a message on voicemail canceling the move. Movers show up at 9pm. Horrible service. Spent all day waiting for this company and had to cancel and now I have to figure something else out tomorrow to move the rest of the stuff. read more

Would not recommend. I used this company before and had a good experience. This time, not so much. The movers forgot to put the brackets back on a 2 piece hutch once they arrived at the new house. The top part of the hutch fell on top of me, knocking me to the floor with the hutch on top of me. Thankfully I was not seriously injured but it could have ended very badly, especially had it been a child or elderly person. We informed Tim of the event and he encouraged us to file a claim. We did. Two months later, they tell me that they deny having taken off the brackets in the first place, basically calling me a liar. I wasn't asking for money, just repair to the piece of furniture. I am so happy with our decision to hire Moving by Design to move our 83 year old mom to her new independent living apartment. Enrique, Brett, Anthony, and Francisco swooped in, efficiently packed mom's things, and treated her as if she were their own grandmother. Their kindness was quite an added bonus. I am in a quandary as to how to rate this company. On the one hand, a lot of things went great, but we did have some pretty big hiccups in the process. For starters, I love Christina the receptionist. She was always so helpful throughout everything. We had a move from a 2 bedroom apartment in League City, pickup some couches and a fridge at my mother in laws down the street, then take everything to our new house in Friendswood. Scheduling was easy, and Tim followed up with us 2 days beforehand for confirmation. We had a window of 11-2 for the arrival, and the movers got to the apartment at 12. When they arrived, there were 5 guys sent because we were on the third floor, and they didn't want the job to take all day. Understandable, and great, because it did move quickly for the boxes we had packed, as well as the furniture in the bedrooms. That did not last very long though. After an hour past, 3 guys went to another job. Once again, understandable, but the pace at which we were able to get things down to the truck was almost halted because of the older man who was running the crew. He was very stubborn, worked at a snail's pace, and actually argued with my husband about what would fit on the truck. When 2:40 rolls around, we finish getting stuff into the moving truck, and head to my mother in law's house 5 minutes away. The movers said they wanted to go get a quick bite to eat and something to drink, so they would meet us there in a few minutes. I had to leave to pick up my son at school, but my husband stayed for the truck. They got to her house at 3:05, and proceeded to evaluate how it would be best to get 2 couches, a chair, and a fridge to fit in the truck. After I picked up my son from school and went to my house in Friendswood, it was already 3:50, and I noticed that the movers were not there. At this point I was getting upset, as it does not take professionals this long to get a few things. I called Christina to let her know the situation, and that I should not be getting charges for 3 men, because there were only 2 on our job. She was very nice, and informed me that another mover would be joining the crew for unloading at my home in Friendswood. While I was on the phone with her, my husband had text me and said my mother in law was furious, because while the movers were getting the fridge out of her house, they proceeded to let fluid leak out onto her new carpet, and didn't even offer to clean it or do anything to get it up. Christina let me know that her higher up, Tim, was going to be told of the damage. Around 4:30, the movers finally show up to my house, and proceed to unload the truck. The 2 younger men were awesome, and very efficient in getting things done. The older man was again, being stubborn. We told him that the fridge needed to go through the formal dining room side of the kitchen, but he proceeded to take it through the living room, and caused unnecessary stress on his crew, as well as wasted time. When he realized we were right, he took the fridge around to the dining room, and it took him over an hour to get it in the correct position and connected. That should've taken maybe 15 minutes. After he finished that, there were several pieces of furniture he kept trying to place in the wrong room, and it took me telling him the same thing 3 times for him to listen. The president of the company, Tim, came by the house while the movers were working, and talked with us about everything that was happening. He was very professional, courteous, and got my mother in law's contact information so he could coordinate getting her carpet professionally cleaned. We were very pleased with Tim, and glad he came out. After the move was all done, it was about 6:45, and the older man tried to hand us a bill for $735, and said it had a 10% discount applied. I'm no mathematician, but 5.75 hours at $130/hr and 10% off the top is $672.75. When I let him know that his math was off, he tried to argue with me for a minute, then called Tim. Luckily, Tim was very admirable, and took $100 off of the final price. Nothing was broken, or scratched while moving, which is great! We appreciate the younger men in the crew, Christina, and Tim very much, and would be happy to have them move us in the future. read more

I used these guys twice in a single month. The first house was a 3 bedroom loaded with enough stuff for a 6 bedroom house. We only used them for the larger items. It was completed within 5 hours. The second time was from a two story apartment going to a three bedroom home. We were done in 4 hours. Nothing was broken or missing. All smiles with speed and hard work. They were never on their phones, and worked hard the whole time. Tim, the owner communicated very quickly to questions and even showed up the day of the move. They arrived on time, prepared everything quickly while waiting for the loading dock to be available, and got the truck loaded fast. Then we went to my storage unit where the rest of my furniture and every extra box were squeezed in. I honestly don't know where to start to explain what a horrible experience I had with this company. Please read further and whatever you do, if you value your time or money, do not go with this company. I know there are lots of good reviews on here - those reviews are the reason I called this place. However, read carefully and note that most of those reviews list specific names of movers; if you are not getting those names, you're probably going to have an experience like mine. I have a one bedroom apartment and was moving to another, smaller one. This is what I had to move: * 1 bed * 1 sofa * 1 china hutch with two glass shelves * 1 TV * 1 easy chair * 3 chests of drawers; 2 small end tables * 1 kitchen table & 4 chairs (the $150 kind from Walmart) * 3 fake potted plants (from TJ Maxx; less than 5 lbs each) * 25 boxes * 3 wardrobe boxes * 3 lamps (wrapped in bubble wrap/boxed) I have moved twice in the last three years (last time with an additional sofa & desk!!) and have never had the move take more than three hours. The movers literally did not have to walk more than 5 feet into my place aside from getting the bed. Everything else was packed and stacked neatly by the door in the entry they walked into. On top of that, they profusely commented on how well I had packed everything and what a nice experience it was for them to be in someone's home and have the move be organized and efficient and clean. The movers were Tracey & Andy. Their walk to the truck was less than a city block. They took almost 45 minutes to decide where to park. They took 8.5 hours to move me. Tracey would disappear for 10-20 minutes at a time. He liked to flirt and talk and comment on my things. He used my bathroom five times. He wandered around from room to room not really doing anything. He kept asking to move the two pieces of furniture I didn't want move, instead of all the other things that were waiting to be moved. Every time I told him to focus on the boxes and furniture in the front room, he'd say something like "oh, yeah" and wander back away. I don't know what he was doing aside from when he helped Andy move the bed, couch, and chests. I finally asked Andy where Tracey kept disappearing to, and Andy told me he was "rearranging the truck." Andy also kept apologizing for his partner, and said he'd never worked with him before and wasn't expecting him to be such a slob. I have pictures of Tracey carrying one item (a fake potted plant) down; he would frequently take one-item trips. Andy worked hard, but there's only so much one guy can do when it's supposed to be a two-man move. In hour five, I started helping them move myself. I took all the remaining boxes down the stairs, by myself. We left in hour six, for a 25-minute drive to my new place. I arrived 30 minutes before they did. When they got there, myself and my new neighbors took furniture in and unloaded wardrobe boxes and set up the table/chairs/easy chair. It took us less than half an hour to unload, and we did at least 50% of the work. The worst part was the manager Tim Gray. After 4.5 hours, I called Tim and asked what the hell was going on with his men. He argued with me, was rude, and told me it was "illogical" for me to assert that it was a one-man move. Instead of saying "Gee, yeah, it's totally crazy that my men still haven't even loaded up the truck yet" - he tried to tell me that it was because their walk was too long and that he's never had trouble with Tracey before. He also tried to say I must be insane, there's no way a one bedroom was taking that long. I guess idiots in action have idiots in charge, because yes, my WHOLE POINT WAS HOW CRAZY IT WAS to take SIX HOURS to load a one bedroom into a truck! Tracey broke a shelf in my china hutch. Tim tried to argue that he shouldn't have to pay for it because the insurance I bought from them doesn't cover unwrapped shelves. I didn't tell Tracey not to wrap it; in fact I sat and watched him wrap the first one. Andy and I called Tim to get a refund on the work. He wanted to charge me $675 for the move, which he said was a discount. Andy told him what a worthless human Tracey had been all day, and Tim ridiculed Andy and tried to argue with all of us. He knocked it down to $550, and that was it. Now my shelf is broken, it's two weeks later, and I still don't have a new shelf. I get to enjoy nasty emails from Tim about it, though. Not only is MbD more expensive than other movers for a 2-man crew (you can easily pay $100 or under for the same team), the manager is a crook and the moving crew you get might be on drugs or brain dead. This was a very smooth, professional move. The crew arrived right on time, reviewed exactly what was being moved and where, and started to work. They were fast and efficient, but careful with my furniture, and even took an adjustable bed apart and put it back together for me at the new house. I really appreciated their good attitudes too - even with 90 degree heat and moving heavy furniture upstairs, they never lost their smiles. I liked that they stayed in contact with me in the days before the move, confirming the date and time as well as the items being moved in case I needed to add anything.
