I was a client of Joel's for nearly two years when he lived in DC, and he is the best massage therapist I have ever had. He paid attention to my neck and shoulders, where I carried a lot of stress, and our regular appointments helped to relieve stress as well as prevent injury as my job requires a lot of physical movement. He was the consummate professional, ensured that the ambiance was relaxing, and was always thorough. He used just the right amount of pressure, and I always left feeling much more relaxed than when I first arrived. I recently woke up unable to move my neck. I went and saw a chiropractor right away, who said I'd probably need a week and many more visits to recover (and recommended I not get a massage). I saw Joel that afternoon anyways and felt better immediately. The next day I was good as new. He knew exactly which muscles groups to work with and how to work with them so that my recovery was swift. In general, I don't feel comfortable with male body workers - but Joel was incredibly professional and made me feel at ease. Best massage I have had in a long time. Very professional, relaxing and clean environment. Joel is a very skilled massage therapist with many years of experience. I particularly liked his professionalism. He made me feel comfortable from minute one and he knew intuitively what my back and neck needed after I had given him a brief description of the pain. He used Swedish massage and Deep Tissue massage techniques, while regularly checking with me for the right pressure. It was great and I felt so much better after the massage. Got a massage from Joel awhile back a few hours after calling him. I had woken up with debilitating neck pain and tried everything in my power to get rid of it. Resorted to calling all the local places but no one could get me in that day. Called Joel; he said he could meet me back in Brooklyn in an hour or two. Went over at the appointed time (yes, it's his apartment, as someone said, but it wasn't uncomfortable at all--the opposite, in fact). Got to it, and it was one of the best massages I've ever gotten. No "fluff and buff" BS. I wanted to cry once or twice, and was made aware of a few muscles I didn't know I had, but that's what I wanted, and that's what I needed. It worked. The debilitating neck pain hasn't been back since. Joel knows his stuff. It's like $80-$100 dollars (don't remember exactly), but for a legitimate massage in NYC that's what you're gonna pay, if not more. I attempted to schedule a very last minute massage, and Joel wasn't available. I ended up getting a massage from a "day spa" where the price is right and walk-ins can easily be accommodated. Needless to say, I got what I paid for. Joel followed up with a text the next day to make sure I was able to get some relief. Who does that? 5 weeks later when the tension in my muscles started to build again, I made an appointment and yesterday, I got the best massage I've ever had. I've had many, from really expensive spas to inexpensive massage joints. Once in a while I've had a really good massage, but mostly they've been mediocre. Joe took the time to talk with me to understand what my issues are and the massage was exactly what I needed it to be. He was professional, highly skilled and obviously extremely knowledgeable about the human body. He also has a great energy. This is his apartment, and I wasn't sure what to expect. But, it was very comfortable and Joel made sure I was happy with the temperature and the music before getting started. When the massage was over, he showed me how to use a foam roller to target my problem areas.
