Earth Treks in Golden is my home gym, but I have also been to the ET Englewood (huge walls and tons of routes), Movement Boulder and Baker locations too. Due to the merger with Planet Granite/El Cap Gyms, membership to one gets you access to all the amazing climbing terrain. The amenities are amazing- lots of smaller practice walls and instruction areas upstairs, along with a fitness room/yoga studio. The cardio/weight room is well-equipped and doesn't seem to get overcrowded. One of the best parts is all the classes you can attend with a membership or day pass- strength yoga, relaxation yoga, meditation, HIIT, Prehab/Rehab for injuries, intervals, personal training, etc. There are also free member clinics on things like whipper therapy, knot tying, and techniques. Paid classes are longer and are totally worth the money and cover everything from technique and movement to leading sport climbing indoors and outdoors, and self-Rescue. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. Everyone is willing to share their knowledge. And they do a great job fostering community with things like the Partner Project every Tuesday night where you can go solo and meet new climbing partners, and the Facebook trade a belay page that links up people looking for temporary or permanent clubbing partners. I highly recommend this gym if you're new to climbing or experienced. There are great routes for everyone alike on both lead and top rope. Safety is a huge priority here, and I feel much better climbing without seeing sketchy belay practices going on around me. A wonderful place for families too! read more

Making my way through ALL the Movement gyms in Colorado! Visited Golden on a random weekday afternoon, and it was uncharacteristically busy because of the holidays. Staff is great, not just because I know some of the instructors, and there's plenty of parking. I thought the bouldering routes were more challenging than those at other Movement gyms, but they're just holds I'm less used to. Definitely coming back more often, and perhaps next time I'll bring my climbing harness. read more

Warm atmosphere, friendly & skilled staff, excellent group fitness classes, and great climbing routes! I joined in November and have been avidly taking part in as many fitness classes and events they offer. I had an awesome intro to climbing class with Justin and having never climbed before I felt confident to climb after the class! I love the ski fit classes with Grace R! Hour long, lower body focused class that she always expertly guides you through with proper warm up and cool down so you feel confident to try new exercises. Extra shout out to Grace R as I took her Weightlifting for Women sessions too. Great opportunity for instruction in a small group with other women to learn proper form in foundation barbell exercises while building confidence in a gym space. She is an awesome teacher and I highly recommend signibg up for anything she teaches. She gives great cues and feedback while creating a judgement free, positive space. All in all great gym environment and I love all the events they host! All of the staff are exceptional. read more

Went to Earth Treks to learn how to belay. They offer a bogo deal so it works out to $15/pp. Our instructor was super patient and answered all our questions. After a couple of trips up the wall and a couple of times belaying I feel like I am starting to get the hang of it. They use GriGris there and that's a little different that what I tried the first time, which was just an ATC? They have a ton of routes and a bouldering area. It's definitely a popular place, as it was packed. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. read more

We've been going to Earth Treks since it opened. Now that it is Movement you can definitely see a difference. There are now signs at the bottom of climbs warning you of all the ways in which the gym is not being kept up. "Blood on route" - seriously? "Loose hold." Chalk caked on roped climbs. First, I completely respect the fact Earth Treks is a private business, and I would have canceled my membership with the implementation of masks had that been my sticking point. My issue is not with masks, my issue is that I was harassed by Earth Treks staff Saturday evening. My first interaction with Earth Treks staff was with Sierra. She aggressively approached during my set and refused to leave my side. It was evident she approached about my mask slipping below my nose. I offended her because I interrupted her lecturing me - I couldn't hear her considering that my headphones were in as I was in the middle of a set. Upon completing my set, I corrected the placement of my mask, as I informed her I would. Her response was to glare at me from outside the door of the weight room, waiting for another opportunity to lecture me when my mask fell again. She left her "post" when I noticed her and informed her that her actions were making me uncomfortable. Sierra was harassing me. I'm not sure if it's policy to do rounds but slightly after, Nick approached me. After the episode with Sierra, I admittedly was a bit short with Nick. John came up last and by this time, I had enough. I was just attempting to finish my workout and leave but Sierra approached again with John to say something. Again, my headphones were in so I couldn't hear but I told them I was going to cancel my gym membership upon finishing that last set. The only time my mask was off my face for the nearly 1.5 hours I was in the gym is when I removed my mask to walk out of the weight room upon finishing my 4th conversation with Earth Treks staff in the less than 10 minutes since Sierra first approached. I come to the gym in order to relax and get time to myself. Being harassed is not relaxing. Saturday night felt like a miniature Stanford Prison Experiment. If you want to be treated with dignity, stay away from this place. read more

I'm a newbie at climbing. In fact, I'm terrified of heights, but decided to give it a try. My boyfriend and so many of my friends are into the sport. I was pretty nervous during my first few climbs, but I was hooked after my first visit. So much fun!! Earth Treks has such a great variety for all skill levels. I've mostly been climbing on the stuff upstairs (it is not as tall) until I get more comfortable with the height fear. I love the challenge and the workout of climbing. I've also used their gym (the treadmill) to get in some cardio. Nice machines. Shout out to Ross who was very helpful during my belay test. He was informative, friendly, and patient. Nice facility. Before I paid, I asked if my son could lead Climb and they said yes. Then, they gave us a very casual top rope belay talk. We needed to do another lead talk, but this was a test that they didn't tell us was pass or fail. They used terms for doing things wrong (z clipping, back clipping) that my son wasn't familiar with because he's learned to lead the correct way. Ross (our tester) told him that he wasn't ready to lead. Very disappointing since my son chose to come climb at the gym instead of outside. I work as a professional Mountain Guide, I know a lot about safety. Your test is lame, with a lame simulator station. I asked Ross if he could watch and coach my son up a 5.8 (my son can climb 5.11) and turn this into a learning situation instead of a "you failed " situation. He said no and to try next year. I've participated in numerous tests and talks in climbing gyms all across the country and I'll never come back here again. read more

He is beyond impressive with the kids! His interactions with the kids was heart-warming. It's not a job to Grant. He genuinely cares about the kids. He pushed them too...but in a gentle way! Earth Treks has terrible customer service. The company failed to follow through with their promised services in a yoga teacher training and then didn't acknowledge or address problems brought to their attention. Though the dispute occurred during Covid, the company didn't follow through with services they promised before lockdowns, or the services they promised after lockdowns. This occupational training was administered unprofessionally and I would question any certifications coming from this organization. The Yoga Teacher Training was unorganized and failed to fulfill requirements of a YA credentialing service: 1. The program didn't adhere to Yoga Alliance (YA) requirements and the YA Code of Conduct 2. Instructors failed to consistently communicate during the training time. I sent several emails asking about personal progress that were never answered. 3. After classes ended, the instructors ignored my progress for an entire month (6 attempts at contact) and then proceeded to blame me for when and how I contacted them (email and text) even though the program was not complete 4. The program demanded an additional $1,200 in fees for additional time with instructors, though not needed. This was intentional deception and misrepresentation of program requirements 5. The program has no rubrics and therefore assessments are biased and based on instructor feelings 6. Submitted homework was not reviewed, instructors never provided feedback or acknowledged receiving assignments. Instructors lost my submitted assignments, later to be found after I was forced to put together exhaustive documentation of all my interactions and emails during the program time 7. Due to lack of organization the teachers and ET managers released conflicting guidelines and statements and ultimately suppressed the truth about who was responsible for the program and how many and what hours I completed in accordance with YA requirements. They are refusing to provide these answers 8. The lead instructor harassed me in emails and created a hostile environment that interfered with my ability to study, meanwhile ET management didn't address this treatment and proceeded to force me into negative situations with the same instructor while not providing any alternatives. ET managers even failed to write emails detailing options, instead insisting to talk on the phone and stonewalling my questions It is obvious this yoga program is a money grab!!! Don't fall for any of ET's long-term programs. They take advantage of their position of power over the consumer. Verify what they say and get things in writing! I've been lied to at many points during this program. read more

Super friendly staff, Joe H was a huge help. Gym is BIG with a huge selection of top rope and sport routes as well as bouldering, campus boards and more. Upstairs has a whole selection if shirt routes ~30 feet that are great for beginners or warming up. Love this place, really stoked that Movement is now part of this network so we can go visit. Theyre doing a good job with covid, online reservations were easy and climbing sessions are 1h50m long. read more

Uh-huh Private area for your parties (code: the little ones and those just checking things out are out of the main area and can look down on all the action)? YUP Speciality training * REGULARLY scheduled? Yep Oh... and the actual climbing walls?? Sweet and Yup! Bouldering area - large, overhung, spacious, all levels? Yep Men and Women's Locker Room with all the perks? Yep *** I can't say enough about the little details - like the foot washing station, because, it is a CLIMB gym, after all :) *** Complimentary mouthwash, lotion, hair dryer, etc...?? Uh-huh *** Locking private lockers with key codes? Yes.. Um... food, drink options and a gear shop... seriously, yes, I'm not kidding! And... cool little details like Speaker Series, Food Trucks and Beer... their events are super cool, laid back and the pros mix in just as freely with the locals as if we've known them all our lives. Earth Treks is a World-Class climbing gym and training facility! Super friendly and helpful staff. Amazing route setting (both bouldering and routes) that are frequently changed to keep it interesting. I find that to be one of the most important factors in climbing gyms that can make it exceptional and Earth Treks is certainly world class when it comes to route setting. The setters are super strong climbers that set fantastic routes at all levels of ability and in a super wide variety of styles and that are accessible to both tall and shorter climbers. The gym area and systems board/hang board/training area are also great! Another factor that really sets this gym apart is their approach to feedback from members and customers. They always seem to be taking feedback seriously and always implementing changes to make things better and cutting edge. poor customer service, my partner and I brought two beginners here and i doubt they will return. We came two days after a new mask mandate and if you even had your mask down a tad after a climb or a belay the staff would threaten to kick you out. this made no sense to me, I would imagine in place that is so-called "welcoming" they would be a little more polite especially to people that are trying to get into the sport. I understand there is mask mandate and i abided but if you are just getting off the wall after an intense physical activity or belaying your partner where you shouldn't be taking your hands off of the rope, there should be a little bit of slack. read more

Spray wall reset is awful. You don't need huge holds and volumes on a spray wall. You also don't need beginners and children monopolizing it at peak hours. The setting here is mediocre on a good day.. pain which could easily be alleviated by training upstairs except access to the most useful training tool in the facility is restricted at peak times by workshops and teams. You would rather cater to the hustle than recognize serious climbers might want to use your gym too. Bummer. read more

Awful belay test with Blake. Avoid him at all costs. Came in tonight w a friend. I was already checked out on lead. He's also been climbing for 10 years +, new to the area, needed to get checked out. Understand, of course. That's how it goes. Blake did not like the "looks" my friend I gave each other and decided he would no longer test my friend, essentially failing him. I seriously have no clue what this guy was talking about. I tried talking to him about it. Nope- no go. Had to get manager, (Christina?), who clearly had good head on her shoulders and wasn't on any power trip. If you roll w Blake make sure to stroke that ego and let him know he's the man in addition to just doing the normal things you need to do to pass a lead test. Or better yet, find a different tester and just belay, climb like the safe person that you are and pass like you deserve to. read more

I've been to a good number of gyms across the country and this is one of my favorites. The routes are really fun and are more dynamic than most places. The bouldering cave is a pretty sweet set up. The place is clean and well maintained, and isn't pretentious like a some gyms, so definitely good for climbers of all levels. ATCs and grigris are allowed, so pick your poison. There's also a nice workout room to get an all-around work out in. Definitely give this place a look. read more

My words cannot do justice to how amazing ET Golden really is. My brother and I have been climbing here nearly everyday for about 2 years. We are always greeted by friendly employees, and guaranteed to have a great training session. In terms of quality and quantity, ET Golden is unbeatable. Its facility is State-of-the-Art. Hands down the best climbing gym in the Rockies. If you are a seasoned climber looking for harder set routes and problems, this place is for you. If you are a novice to the climbing world, this place is for you. The gym offers plenty of gear, shoes, clothing, drinks, food and other climbing/yoga accessories. Not to mention, ET Golden has a full weight-lifting gym, and three hydraulic powered system boards. I am good friends with several staff members, and they are caring, thoughtful and continually looking to help their customers. I have visited climbing gyms across the country and this is one of the most disappointing of them. Earth Treks Golden has a lot of potential (which is the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1). The walls are tall and aesthetically pleasing. The bouldering area had good angles. There is not as much sustained steep terrain as I would like but overall the wall design is very nice. What made this gym such a disappointment is the route setting. I am a 5.13 climber and a routesetter myself and have set at 3 different gyms in Boulder area. The setting at Earth Treks doesn't take shorter people into account (I'm 5'3"). On the routes, there are never feet where you would need them. On any of the harder routes, I'm making huge moves that are uncharacteristic for the grade (sometimes 4ft between holds), making full body length bump moves, or the feet are in awkward unusable positions. The grading is far from consistent. The routes feel as though they are set by boulderers, not people who know what a good sport route should feel like. The bouldering was a little better but still suffered from some of the problems as the routes. The route setting culminated in the least fun experience I have had in a gym. Many of the people I have talked to in Boulder and some of my fellow route setters feel the same way. I will certainly not be driving 30min and paying to climb at Earth Treks again until their setting has improved. read more

I have been in love with this place from the moment I set foot in their facility. I had my first climbing experience about a week and a half before at Movement, but they were kind of far away, so i wanted to try a different place. I took an Intro to Climbing class and Alex was a great teacher. I was pretty much hooked from then on. I come in about 2-3 times a week to climb and I never get bored. They're the biggest climbing gym in Colorado and it's evident in the amount of space available on the walls even during peak times. They switch out the routes every three months or so, meaning that by the time you're kind of getting used to the routes, they're new again. I could rave about this place for hours (and I have, much to many a friend's annoyance), but I suggest you come here and experience it for yourself and be blown away, just like I was. read more

Earth Treks inspired me to live a better life from the moment I walked in. The facility is clean and beautiful. So far I have only used the bouldering area and the gym equipment. I've enjoyed my time spent in both areas of the gym and can't wait to try out the climbing walls in the near future. Having Earth Treks so close to Golden is a real privilege. Being a CSM student is also a perk because at the Student Activities Center, CSM students and staff can get $10 day passes, which is a significant discount from their $18/day rate. Full equipment rentals are $11, which is pretty standard from the handful of climbing gyms I've been to. The space is really bright and well organized. The routes are marked by colored hand- and foot-holds so it keeps the gym looking really sharp. They also have a pretty well equipped gym facility that caters to building the strength you need to climb. They also have treadmills and elliptical too for cardio workouts. They do not have auto-belay systems so climbing with a buddy is a must, but people are generally pretty welcoming and if you would like, you can always ask to join another group. I find that having a group of three is the best because there's ample rest time between climbs. PRO TIP: It seems that the busiest times are 3-6 PM and weekdays and weekend mornings. The crowds are the thinnest Friday nights and weekend evenings. read more

Great gym for climbing, terrible customer service. Instead of cancelling your membership, they allow you to freeze it and pay $10 per month versus the normal price of $79 per month. They let you do this for 3 months in a row. After 1 month, they changed the price back and charged me $79. I contacted them and they refused to refund my money. I never said anything about taking me off the freeze! I immediately cancelled my membership and disputed the charge. read more

Woohoo just about sums it up! Earth Treks is a massive indoor climbing center with a gym, kids area, and wonderful bouldering area as well as just about any type of climbing problem you can imagine. Wanna get upside down? There's a wall for that! Practice crack climbing? Yep! Like to go under and over cliff overhangs? Yeah, you'll dig it too! Almost every route has lead climbing caribiners too. I'm not a huge climber, but I could be if I belonged to this gym. The only problem I see is that on weekends in the winter this place gets crowded quick. I was there for a fund raiser, and I got intimidated very quickly. Other than that, yeah, climb on! read more

I climbed here regularly for almost 9 months. I enjoyed the layout, the tall walls with really great variation. The setting is top notch both for bouldering and roped climbing, and setting wise it feels incredibly true to grade for outdoor climbing. The huge variety of leading and top roping options is great. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable happy to talk climbing all day. Every interaction I had with the staff at the Golden location was EXCELLENT. Even when I had an unfortunate accident with my ankle (broke it falling from the top of bouldering wall, which was no fault of theirs) the staff here went above and beyond to interact with everyone. However, what many people forget is that Earth Treks is actually a chain with most of their locations on the East Coast. On more than one occasion I had to interact with the member services coordinator who was based on the East Coast at their headquarters, I would have much preferred someone local at the gym that I could talk to. In the end the individual out East was able to take care of everything but required a few e-mail or phone exchanges. read more

We went here with a Living Social deal. They have an excellent online registration system for deal-getters. We chose the option for the training session + 1 climbing session. The training session was really great. Instruction was thorough. We had a great time climbing the walls and practicing. We also got some rope to practice on for when we return and do our belay tests. read more

The gym is very nice. My son is on the climbing team and has gotten way stronger. They have attentive staff but sometimes they can seem kind of "corporate" if that makes sense. The facility is huge and they have routes and problems for every ability. They have lots of member classes. read more

This gym has gone downhill quite quickly. I've been going to Earth Treks Golden for 5 years. I can say nothing bad about it's operations when it first opens but the same cannot be said as of 2019 The quality of the route setting is quite poor. Holds are constantly dirty and greasy, it's like they aren't cleaning the holds when they change routes. The frequency that new routes go up has dramatically decreased. When the gym first opened routes would only stay up for 6-8 weeks before being replaced and now it's closer to 10-12 weeks so things get old quite quickly. The associates that work there (not all but many) are quite rude but more importantly they are lacking in climbing knowledge and experience. They need some serious training if they are to maintain a safe environment. Safety generally speaking is a major problem here, ropes have squishy/destroyed cores. Almost all of the perma-draw gates have worn down to razor sharp knife edges so it is possible to cut yourself or the rope while clipping. One of the worst problems with this gym is their new policy requiring all climbers to exclusively use the gyms grigris despite the safety concerns I have pointed out to management. Their grigris are worn out and need replacing. Many associates are rude and discriminatory. The gym is so packed with first time newbie climbers from 4pm-8pm (weekdays) you must plan on standing in line for routes. This was a good Gym, it is no longer so. It's quite sad. read more

I LOVE Earth Treks. After moving to Golden last year and the opening of Movement in Denver, I've been fluctuating between Earth Treks, Movement, and Rockin' and Jamin'. Essentially I've landed on Earth Treks for several reasons: - Why lie? It's close to me. - SO MANY ROUTES. There are so many options, so even when it's busy it's easy to get on something. - ROUTES I CAN DO! I'm admittedly not the most ambitious climber. I like doing my thang, but you're not going to find me on some overhanging 11d. They have those too, but it's nice that they have enough beginner/intermediate routes that you have options. - Unique features on the walls. They have lots of realistic curves and and corners that make the climbing really fun. - Nice staff, clean space, nice locker rooms blah blah blah. Of course no place is perfect, so I will give you my couple gripes as well to balance out the review: - PACKED ALL THE TIME. I mean just crammed full of people. They could also be a little better about regulating the baby-business. I'm not one of those people who think babies shouldn't be allowed in public, but I've been there on a Saturday when there were FOUR newborn babies in strollers ON THE MATS underneath people climbing. Not safe and not very convenient for people trying to use the space. - My BF complains about the colors of the routes being too similar next to each other, but he's basically color blind. I'm a normal person who can see color, so this doesn't bother me, but if you are a little color-challenged that can be tough. - Sometimes the routes can just be so so. I've been on more than a couple that seem like someone got bored 3/4 of the way through setting the route and just kind of gave up. Most of them are decent, but you will run in to some generally crappy routes there. Overall, I'm a big fan. Like all climbing gyms, it's expensive as hell, but that's certainly not specific to them. read more

I'm approximately 1 year into climbing. Earth Treks has given me the best climbing experience I could hope for. It does help that two veteran climbers have taken me under their wing and given me tutoring that would otherwise cost me a fortune. I started out for around 6 months using one of my buddy's free passes. Then moved to buying my own punch pass for about 2 months. Now I have my own membership. Easily freeze it for outdoor climbing. The gym is massive. Routes are well defined and laid out in color coordinated holds. They have classes galore as well as workout areas and yoga. One of favorite things about this gym as a new climber learning to manage fear is that they allow trust falls. That may sound weird but at my last gym in PDX they strictly were against what they called victory or trust falls. How is anyone going to become comfortable with taking falls if they can't practice them? Most other gyms that I've been to make you practice a fall during your lead test. ET does not specifically. Any how I enjoy being a member of a gym that allows climbers to test their skill and manage their stress. it's helped me to be a better climber to take a whip occasionally and see an employee smiling over at me in approval of overcoming that fear. These guys are also super cool about providing guidance to climbers/belayers. They always come across well when they're providing tips on proper technique. read more

Always crowded but all the routes are super fun. A well managed gym. The training section and the top rope section are my favorite
