I am trying to find out if the slides will be open on 2/4/26 in the big play pool. We have guests coming from out of town. I could only leave a message; I was unable to speak to a human being. This does not work for me at all. I did leave a message and am awaiting a return call. This is really poor business practice, in my opinion. It is not clear from the website. I have been to several local pools only to find out - surprize! Not enough lifeguards, no slides during the week, etc, etc. I have guests coming in from out of town. This is the worst place you can work. They treat their staff like absolute shit with horrible management, or lack there of, and no solutions or effort to fix long time problems. The only good part is you get paid decently. But the "management" is chaotically disorganized, dishonest, and ultimately horrific. They fail to staff their facilities well if at all most time and will completely disregard your availability. As a former lifeguard, we don't want to be like this either. If we don't kick guests out of lap for not swimming laps, or take our eyes off the water to make sure your crying son is okay, we get punished. Blame management not the guards, we're just as annoyed as you. This facility is also incredibly dirty, as they only allow 30 minutes of cleaning. The water, floors, and overall facility is disgusting. Senior guards 99% of the time don't help, and don't enforce cleaning on the guards either. read more

Very concerning experience at their child watch on 72nd, as staff members seem incompetent to care for multiple kids. They do not seem to care for kids getting physically attacked by other kids at child watch. They do not respond to crying. My child was physically attacked by another child upon arrival and the staff showed zero interest in resolving the situation or responding to his crying. Needless to say, I did not leave him here as it did not feel like a safe environment for a child due to the lack of care from the staff. read more

I have been taking my kids here since they were babies but not again after I was almost assaulted by another guest and there was no one who was an actual adult working there who could take care of the problem. After being threatened I went to the staff office where literally three teenagers sat and had no idea what to do and did nothing to help me and my three children. This guest was using profanity and even threatened to punch me in the face as she thought my 4 year old daughter took her chair. read more

I was well aware pool doesn't open u til 430 but I was told where we could wait which is what we were doing, but teenage lifeguards came and kicked us out for no reason. We were just sitting where we were told. And zero signs tell you you can't sit in the chairs past the locker room. If there going to be super rude like they did walking through the FAMILY locker room with my daughter changing. I'll file a legal complaint. read more

Normally I wouldn't burn my time leaving a review for a rec center, but this place is just deserving. It's old, but it's well managed with lots of amenities indoor and out. My family and I have been going here for about a year. Love the kids club offering allowing us time to work out. The pool is great I just wish they had better evening hours. Staff is polite and down to earth. Weight room gives you that 1990s feel but at least they have one. read more

Just got off the phone with a lady working the front desk (call center). I just called to ask a few questions to get clarification on holiday hours. She responded (it's pretty self explanatory and it's all online huffing and puffing on the phone!?- - Yeah the big Rec center that says Apex with the pool and slide.. that's us!!! Like why do you guys have people working here who hate their job and are disrespectful to the community here?? Pool gets zero stars. They must do 50% chlorine 50% water in the pools, hot tubs. Every time I go in, I end up with itchy dry irritated rash red skin. The whole place reeks of chlorine. I've been here 3 times. Every time, I have a reaction to the water. Yes, I shower afterwards, with vinegar soap to counter act the chlorine but it's no use. 15-30 minutes in the water and I'm miserable for days drenched in calamine lotion. If a pool reeks of chlorine, it's not a healthy pool to go in. Locker rooms are decent. I'll give them one star. Workout gym is eh, ok. Very claustrophobic feeling. One star. Whole place is decently clean. read more

My boys and I had a lot of fun at the pool. The only downside was there seemed to be a shortage of inner tubes for the slides and no one was there to regulate the tube exchange's so sometimes people would commandeer a tube and just keep going on the slide while others couldn't get a tube and were waiting for a while. Eventually one parent started telling the kids they had to take turns with the tube and pass it on to the people waiting in line at the end of the slide so it was more fair. But the lifeguards regulate everything else in the pool pretty well so I'm surprised they didn't do that. Great facility though! Lots of fun! read more

I love this place to work out, as I live right up the hill in back. I like to run on their treadmills, which are in good condition and newer. My wife likes to swim and we both enjoy the hot tub. The kids pool is amazing, it's huge! The ice hockey and skate board park is also pretty awesome! The facility is clean and mostly friendly. For some reason, the woman who hang out up stairs, aren't as friendly as the people downstairs and the life guards. Maybe they could smile sometimes. read more

The Apex facility is impressive and still disappointing. Impressive in design and the variety of activities available: indoor lap pool, hot tub, indoor toddler - 5 water play area, great water slides, fun kid water play area, outdoor splash pad, ice rink, climbing wall, cardio, etc. Disappointing: I swear it is always packed in the indoor kid water play area. Packed. At times the noise is cacophonous. Summer 'camp' groups come by the dozens. The locker rooms are decent, but I find the patrons are too willing to be gross with litter and clumps of hair left in showers. Birthday parties are way over priced. read more

I was really excited about joining this gym but when I got a day pass, I wasn't impressed and changed my plans for membership. The workout area was small and didn't offer much. The climbing wall was a joke, compared to what I am used to, at least. I appreciate the indoor pool and playground because they provide options for restless kids when weather is crappy. But when the weather is nice, I prefer an outdoor pool. The pool area was super warm and reeked of chlorine. The indoor play area was free when we visited. Hopefully that is still the case! It's a fun area but my toddler gets lost in the damn play structure (think McDonald's Play Place) and can't get out! So until she overcomes that issue, I won't be bringing her back. The staff was super nice and let me climb up there to get her, twice. But it was not pleasant. Still, I am looking forward to the holiday events that they have here and hope to use this center occasionally as it is the closest one to me. read more

This place really is amazing. The swim program could be better for little ones but the facility is unreal for being a community rec center. We are so fortunate to have this in our backyards. The indoor pool facility has lap pools, a play structure, hot tub, and free water slides. It serves residents for $6.25 for an adult and around $3 for a kid and is still affordable for non residents. There's also an ice rink, parents night out, babysitting, indoor play structure, workout facility, workout and education classes, physical therapy, skate park, and more. We moved to this area in part because we knew this Apex center was here but had no idea that it was so affordable to become a member. For a family of 4 for a year it is about $1000 for the year and because it has so much to do it rarely feels crowded! read more

This seems like a great rec center for kids, but maybe not so much for adults. I really like the open layout of the facility and when it comes to indoor swimming, they have quite the setup. However, as an adult who likes to work out, the gym is completely underwhelming. I'm actually surprised at how many amenities they lack. I don't quite understand why they have an ice arena and TV's for every treadmill, yet they lack an indoor lap run, variety of cardio machines and a proper area for stretching except for where people go rock climbing. Really? The machines here are very basic. I wasn't able to find any machines to properly work my abs. I really enjoy using a roman chair, which I find to be a basic piece of equipment for a gym, and yet they don't have one. I also noticed kids running laps around the hallway, which again, could be avoided if they had a proper lap run. All in all, I'm a little disappointed with Apex as a gym. Despite the fact that Wheat Ridge Rec Center in an older facility, doesn't have all the amenities of Apex and recently raised their prices, I think it more accommodating for adults. read more

I was pretty disappointed and frustrated in my experience with the climbing wall. Everything else was wonderful, especially the woman checking everyone in by the locker room. She was attentive and quick even with a crowd of people coming and going. I really enjoy the apex but had never used the wall before. I got there about five minutes before it was schedule to open, and was told to fill out a waiver and that it would open soon. I came back several minutes later after my wife and 9 month old went to the baby play area. There was still no one there, nor was the person who originally took my waiver. I asked a second employee if it was open as it was now after the posted opening time. The employee standing there said he didn't know what time it opened, but that I could hang out until the instructor came by. She eventually came by about ten minutes after the posted opening time, stirring coffee and talking to the employee who told me to hang out and wait. They chit chatted behind the desk for a while until about 9:15. At that point I started looking at them to gain eye contact. The employee who told me to hang out about ten minutes earlier eventually pointed to me, and I spoke up asking if the climbing wall is open. I expected a response like, "Sure it is, lets get you climbing," or something equally positive. I got a lecture instead and told it was "Weird" that I was looking at them trying to get eye contact. That experience left a real poor last impression. read more

Sigh. If only we didn't live around the corner. We are a family with three young children who like the water, but I dread taking my kids here on the weekends or school holidays. Don't even bother going to the pool on a saturday or sunday afternoon. You'll find a very shallow and VERY crowded 3 foot play pool. In the center is a giant play structure in a 2 foot deep pool, and then, if the lifeguards allow you, there is a 25 yard lap pool with 6 lanes and usually 5-6 people using it at any one time on the weekends. (water aerobics is a different story) Another Yelp review mentioned the PITA lifeguards. I place the responsibility for breeding annoying and intrusive lifeguards solely in the hands of the aquatics director. These lifeguards aren't allowed to use judgment in enforcing their long set of rules, which even a 15 year old has some of. I can't tell you the times I've taken my 3 kids out of a dangerously crowded play pool to let them actually SWIM, only to have a lifeguard tell me to leave because my kids weren't swimming complete laps (in the youth/family lane, mind you) or because there was one lady on the far end of the water aerobics lane. It doesn't have to be this way. I've been swimming in german rec center pools where there are NO lifeguards...and NO dead kids at the bottom of the pool either! Parents are responsible for their kids, and we all mind our own business. The middle ground, in our country, would be to have lifeguards simply keeping the pool area safe, and keeping an eye on how guests are using the pool...if someone is infringing on another's use of a designated space (kids jumping on old ladies doing water aerobics) . But if people are safe and minding our own business, LET US SWIM. So, APEX, until you learn to better deal with heavy use (allowing more use of your lap pool during peak weekend hours) and tell your lifeguards to focus on guarding lives and not being a Nanny, you'll see no more than a few bucks a year from a family who lives close enough to throw rocks at your windows. Oh, and I didn't even START on summertime between 9 - 3. In the name of maximizing revenue, the buses of summer camps and daycares start arriving at 9:00 or so and don't leave until 3:00. I've been told by a staff member that it's best not to swim during those hours in the summer, due to the high numbers of summer camp kids. My property tax dollars at work. read more

We visited the APEX center one day to enjoy the water area, we had never been here but we wanted to take a little trip to visit a rec center that we hadn't been to. The pools were clean and everything was working as far as slides and play areas. We drove about 30-45 minutes to get here, and I wouldn't hesitate to make the trip again. My boys played for a few hours in the pool, with each other, without fighting! I have no idea how that happened, they must have been having a really good time. There is a little snack and drink area. The locker rooms are clean and they have private family rooms, although they only have a few, so you may have to wait for one. read more

Water park/pool area was packed because it was spring break, which wasn't their fault, except that "lazy river" (super small) wasn't supervised well and had way way too many people in it. Such a nice center! We went to the pool today, which was packed because of spring break. But it was still a lot of fun for my one-year-old. Plenty of play area for kids of all ages. They even have 2 slides. Lots of lifeguards around, so it felt pretty safe. There is also a free indoor play area for kids. Pool + indoor playground = one happy and tired kid. Great way to spend the day. Prices are fair, too. From what I can tell, the exercise equipment is all nice and new. They even have a rock climbing wall. In addition, there's an ice skating rink at the center. I did not go to the rink, though, so no input for that. read more

I like this place because it's pretty all encompassing. Pool with lap lanes, slide, kid's play area, and hot tub, Ice Arena, Gym with almost all the equipment that you can need, an overhead running track, basketball gym, volleyball, climbing wall, and studio (which isn't open unless there are classes) It's neat that you can pay one fee and get into everything except the ice area. The prices are a little high, but not bad considering everything they have to offer. I do know that their monthly membership, like most gyms is astronomically high. If you don't go regularly I would suggest paying each time, or getting one of their visit punch cards which allow something like 20 visits for a reduced price. Then you can gauge if you're really committed to your New Year's Resolution or what have you. If you go for the work out, the gym is usually pretty crowded and it's possible that you might have to wait for a bit for the equipment, but every time I've gone people aren't real snobby and usually only use the ellipticals and treadmills for the allotted "20 min time if there's a line" which is good enough to get a warm up to use the weights. Another plus is they have the anti-bacterial spray and paper towels so you can clean off stuff as you go along or before you go. All in all, pretty fair. read more

If momma ain't happy, nobody's happy... and this place made me happy by wearing out my kids before their lunchtime and naps. :) I met up with a fellow momma and took my two toddlers there (3.5 yrs, 1.5 yrs) for the free children's play area. It was a trifle crowded (with the 50-degree rainy weather, no surprise there), but still a child's mecca for fun! I think my daughter (the 1.5er) is on the brink of being a little young for this place as most of the attractions within are for upward climbing, but she still had a good time. My son (the 3.5er) did a lot of running and worked on his courage for climbing the piping apparatus (think Chuck E. Cheese), but he had a great time too! They also have a family bathroom there with a perfect-sized child's toilet (my son got a kick out of that). There are also room monitors who assist with defusing conflicts as they arise, and also who work to keep kids safe and with their parents. A great alternative on crappy weather days, and even on good weather days too... and most important of all, Momma is happy. I plan on bringing the kids back to try out the pools! read more

If you want your kids to learn how to ice skate, I totally recommend the Apex Center....the teachers are great with kids and obviously have a ton of experience teaching people how to skate. My kids are in the middle of their second sessions and I can't believe how good they have gotten with the help of this staff. They also love the Open Skating sessions, which are never crowded and always well-supervised. Oh, and we also love the pool :) read more

Holy Smokes, Apex Center is amazing! My only complaint is it is rather far away from my home, so I would never go here regularly. The swim area is simply wonderful, with a fun slide (and one for tubes), a vortex pool and a kids play pool (aside from an adults only lap pool and hot tubs). I guess my second complaint is it gets too busy, especially when it's spring break and the weather is super warm and everyone in town has the same idea - swimming! Still, we managed to have a great time. Apex Center has something for everyone. Aside from the fantastic pool area, it is a recreation center with fitness equipment, classes of all types, two ice rinks, playgrounds and day care facilities. Rates are reasonable and drop in classes are available. This, my friends, is our tax dollars at work and I like it very much. read more

I've been a member here for over a month and felt it was time for an updated review. Overall, I'm pleased with the gym. It's clean, the people who work here are nice for the most part, and the equipment is well maintained and orderly. My only criticism is the gym is lacking variety in shoulder, back and tricep exercise machines. They have plenty of machines to accommodate all the other muscle groups, but there is not a lot of variety for the groups listed above. It would be very much appreciated if they could add a couple machines. If they did so, I think this would be a top notch gym. read more

This facility is really great! It is well maintained, fairly new and has excellent amenities. I used the adult lap swimming area and enjoyed my workout. The water is on the warmer side, but that was OK with me. There is also a designated adult hot tube, which is brilliant. The locker rooms are clean, secure and pleasant. The only potential downside for me was that this place is also a kid magnet and the setup is geared that way too with water slides, a small lazy river and a play area. This is all fine and well for parents, but for athletes like myself who want to get in and do their thing without hordes of wailing kids around, it can be a bit annoying. Thankfully, the adult lap swim area is reserved for adult swimmers and the kids fan out elsewhere. read more

I've been to rec centers all along the front range, and I've never seen one as cool as the Apex Center before. The pool alone would be worth the price of admission. It's like a mini-Water World in there! They have a waterworks-themed, in-pool playground that the kids love. There's a total of 3 pools. One for laps, one for the playground, and another for free swimming (with a lazy river, and a tube slide). Also, the kids play place (which is free) is a great way to have the kids burn off some steam for an hour or two. And you can drop them off there for a while on certain nights while you go out! There is an amazing skatepark outside, which I haven't used, but it is always full of excited looking kids. There's also a great gym/fitness area, complete with a climbing wall. I think they might have an ice rink too, but I'm not sure on that one. I haven't used it if they do. Overall, the Apex Center is excellent! read more

I really love this place. It really has it all. When the Jagger is at Hockey practice, there is so much to do from swimming and weights to spin or even rock climbing. It's family friendly and the staff are great here. They keep it pretty clean for the extreme amount of traffic thought there. read more

We haven't used the rest of the facilities yet, but we use the pool fairly often. They have a lap pool, which I have yet to use (it's been years since I've done laps), as well as a kiddie pool with a play structure, indoor waterslides (sorry, from CA, still getting used to the "everything is indoor/ heated" thing) and hot tubs. My son used to be afraid of water/ swimming, and the 3" of water in the kiddie pool has cured him of that! Speaking of kid's stuff, there is a free play area, as well as a 'daycare' system in case you need someone to watch your kids while you use the pool/ gym/ whatever. And, in case you need it, there is free wi-fi in the building, in case you need something to do while the kids are tearing the place apart. read more

I have been going to the Apex Center for many years. O would say the highlight is their kids pool area and the free in house play area for toddlers. As a high schooler there was the weight room, running track, and skating that kept my interest. They have two skating rinks both hockey accommodates that most of the time. Now as an adult I would say there are many things likable about this place however however the swimming area for adults is so super tiny. I wouldn't recommend this place for adult swimmers. They have a lap pool but there are so many water aerobics classes it rarely looks open. Golden Rec Center has a much larger swim area for adults. On that same note if you have a child older than a toddler there isn't much for them to do if they don't swim. They do have rock climbing but it is super small. The Apex tries to accommodate the residence of Arvada by creating date nights where you can drop off kids for babysitting and then they have games and movies for kids of all ages. It's a nice place and really quite popular for the hockey community and now the skate boarding community with their outdoors skate park. I think they do a great job trying to accommodate for all athletic preferences, but the facility just isn't big enough. They have another location about 10 minutes away that accommodates for indoor soccer, football and any additional sport that needs a large field. It is a great place. A members is too pricy for me and my family but we enjoy going occasionally. read more

For our family, this was a great place I think the negative reviews were more individualized We love the fact it is indoor and it is warm, and the price is just right. We spent about 2 hours in the aquatics. It has 2 sections for different ages and it is perfect for our kids (10, 6, 4). We did not get to do rock climbing because it is only open on certain days (see website). Glad we purchased the 20 punched cards (which saves about 50 cents per visit per person). The staffs were very nice. The only thing I noticed is this: I think the lifeguards are more focused on the rules of the pool than the actual little swimmers as I see they sometimes look bored and spaced out. read more

I am very discouraged that I took time to call and find out if my room rental could be extended for additional time. I was told yes, and then sent the form for change, and then after I already changed my invites and updated everything then they called me to tell me the room had been booked by someone else and was not available. We had our baby's 1st birthday party here in the "child watch" (daycare room) which also gives your party access to the "Clubhouse" (playground room) right next to it. We had a great time and it was such a reasonable price - honestly the best price in town. Worth it to us to not have to host at home when the time wasn't right, and thankful there was availability on such short notice. Thanks so much for having us! We can't wait to try out the remodeled kiddie pool and sign up for mommy and me. read more
