They didn't rush or pressure me. Prices seemed about average/reasonable. There were some items on sale. I would recommend this establishment to others. Not only was this comment out of pocket and inappropriate, it could've also ended poorly for the cashier who had asked it, if it had been asked to a different person. I wish she would've just scanned the tag and let me pay for my back pack instead of making me feel awkward about asking me about my political beliefs. This is the second strange interaction I've had with this cashier, hopefully 3rd times the charm.

Was looking for a few items where the online status shows availability but not on display and no salesperson around to ask or their automatic response is "whatever you see is what we've got". A statement that is more of laziness than true. ...Then why does your online presence say otherwise. So many items are either not priced or mispriced...it is frustrating. Again no salesperson to be found. Only cheerful ones are those going on a break or leaving for work. Then they will answer "whatever you see is what we've got". Terrible experience.

The result -- 'yes', to the brand and style, but 'no', to my size. So returned home and went online. I had peaked at SportChek's online store earlier, and knew they carried the brand, and style of suit I wanted, but now it was time to get serious, and see if they had my size in stock. Success, they had the brand and style in my size, with a few colour options available, and at a good value price. I ended up ordering three suits. Heh, when you're like me and truly dislike shopping for clothes -- it's so difficult for me to find 'what' I want, 'when' I want it, and 'in' my size -- so catching what you can while the option presents itself, is a personal shopping motto of mine!! Shopping at their online store went quickly and smoothly. And their follow up's to my order, were timely, and informative. There was no charge for delivery, as I had purchased over the minimum required amount. My order shipped via Canada Post (from Calgary) -- SportChek notified me of this Monday, I received the parcel in my mail box here Wednesday. I was very pleased with the results of my online ordering with SportChek. Now 'when' and 'where' to try out the new suits?!!

Icebreaker knows this and have changed their warranty policies to match. The "lifetime socks guarantee" (exact quote from their webpage) is now for one replacement, unlike their competitors that make a sock that lasts long enough that they offer a real lifetime socks guarantee. More recently purchased items here wear out before older items, and it's very hard to actually get a warranty replacement. If you wear a shirt twice without washing it and it develops holes, they'll call this normal wear and tear and not replace it even when your ten year old item that's lasted thousands of wears and been through the laundry countless times is still doing fine.

We did the entire 'snowboard alley' of W 4th and this place had by far the best deals. Not only were the prices better to begin with, they also carried more classic styles and colours in jackets and pants that suited my friend's fashion tastes. The staff were really helpful picking out a snowboard that was a great price, European-made and would last him for years. The graphics were pretty sweet, too. The board was freshly waxed and they set it up with the bindings in-store. In addition to already low prices and some sale items, the staff cut my friend a deal since he was buying a bunch of gear. It was the cherry on top! This shop also has non-snow-related sporting gear on the second floor.

When I walked in I felt out of place as most beginner snowboarders probably would feel. It just looked like a small, cramped board shop to me but compared to the other places, I'd take that over the stuffy, boutique type of shops the others seemed to be. Jess at West Coast was very helpful asking me questions to better hone in on what type of equipment would best suit me. She was super informative and didn't pressure me to commit to purchasing anything. In fact, she even told me to go to the other shops in the area to compare equipment and pricing. Pretty ballsy but it made me feel at ease right away. I went to all the other shops and no one made me feel comfortable about being there. Very few questions and assistance. Instead it almost felt like they were uptight because I may not have looked like a typical snowboarder. Needless to say I went back to West Coast and bought the lot, about $1500 worth of equipment. Then I put it to use going up to Whistler the next four days and loved every second of it. The board (Bataleon Goliath) performed great and my feet felt perfect throughout every run. Lastly, I would've given them 5 stars but the person helping my girlfriend with her ski boots was unknowledgeable and not a very big help to her. If you do go to this place go see Jess. I came in on a college budget hoping to pick up a used soccer ball or tennis racket to help emerge from winter hibernation and be outdoors, but the selection and prices made it so I got both! Consigners set the initial prices and get 50% back, so it's luck of the draw as to whether you'll get a good deal. Got a Dunlop racket ($33) that works like a charm, and the used tennis balls ($0.50/ea) are really worth it if you don't mind a Sharpie'd "T" on it. The soccer ball, I made the mistake of buying a lower-end Tektonik ($17) one. BIG mistake. After one use, it began cracking apart massively -- likely an issue of the ball being stale and/or overinflated. Although this is mostly the fault of a bad consigner, I was disappointed that I couldn't get anything back for it after I called and warned them about the other two they had on their shelf. Part of me is kicking myself that I didn't go for the nicer, likely better-maintained $22 Puma ball on the rack -- ended up dishing out another $25 for a new one at SoccerWest anyways. But I'm wondering whether I should sell my new ball to them when I myself have to head out of town, or whether I should go through the effort of selling it on Craigslist/Marketplace to give someone (and probably myself) peace of mind. TLDR: Know what items to buy used, and which are buyer-beware. Quality control can only go so far.
