We only go here to eat when we're in town visiting our daughter's family. Quite often we go in late after some school event. We've never been disappointed - their hours are great and everything we've eaten there - from a midnight breakfast to a full evening meal - has always been prepared as per our order and has been well-presented by their conscientious staff. We'll surely return when we're free to travel again once the coronavirus restrictions are lifted for everybody. read more

Had a delicious breakfast with my friend this morning. My chocolate chip pancakes and sausage links were great and my friend ordered a Greek omelette. Our server, Karen, was so sweet and attentive with all the guests in her area. Our food was a bit delayed due to some backup in the kitchen, but we were still in and out in good time and I will definitely be back! It's nice to see a classic diner loved by so many :) read more

This place is disgusting. I sat in the same booth 7 years apart and swear the same stains, crumbs and grease were there. I can't believe they haven't been cited for health code violations. It was so dirty that my fiend told me to not look around and just keep my eyes forward.. The food is mediocre at best. I'll never understand why there is such a cult following for this place. Mountain View Diner has always been a prime spot in Frederick for as long as I lived there. Every time I drive by, there is always a line of cars parked outside and it seems to be consistently busy. I personally like it because its one of the few diners in the area. I am giving it 4/5 stars because the last time I visited, the service was rather slow. However, this can probably be attributed to the fact that they seem to always be busy. The menu is HUGE and there is much to choose from including breakfast, lunch and dinner options. During my most recent visit, I ordered the veggie omelet, which comes with tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, and spinach. It is also served with your choice of toast and homefries. My girlfriend ordered the fried egg sandwich and it also looked delicious. As you would expect from a diner, the coffee is hot, fresh and tasty. Give this place a try at anytime of the day-- guaranteed you will find something you like on their menu! They also have a great selection of desserts. read more

We ate inside--very quick and efficient service and helpful. Seated people at every other table. We came here for regular diner food (which looked delicious) but ended up ordering Greek food once we found out the owner is Greek. I can say it was authentic. Tzaziki was great and not watery (which I find way too often). The chicken was marinated well and the spices were perfect and the fries seemed hand cut! Salad dressing was also perfect. Love the abeyance of the restaurant. The food was amazing. Love love loved the crab stuffed mushrooms. I wish I could get their recipe for them to make at home. And their recipe for their crab soup. I almost feel bad writing this because the employees were very very nice. The restaurant is disgusting. The side of table had goop in it, the menus were grimy, and we didn't even eat our food because my son's pancakes had a huge dead roach under it. Tried mountainview for brunch. Gave hostess my name and spelled it to be put down for two. She called me by a completely different name and when I politely corrected her she got an attitude. Place was busy so I wish willing to wait for food but the appetizer didn't come out for 30 mins, when we asked about it the waitress shrugged it off and said " well it is a Sunday" like we shouldn't be surprised it took so long. Finally got our food an HR later and the french toast was soggy. I ordered apple topping for it and it was freezing cold on top of my soggy cold french toast. My fiancee ordered a burger and it tasted like cardboard. Food was awful and service was subpar. Won't be back. read more

On September 8, 2024 we came to our favorite diner and we were not greeted by the lady manager. She started down the front aisle away from us and we asked to be seated and she said just a minute. Where she went We don't know because the restaurant was empty and she returned to seat us-- Still no smile no greeting. There were very few people in the diner on a Friday evening and we were surprised. It is usually very crowded on the weekends. We were looking forward to our favorites. Spanakopita, Greek Chicken and flounder with crabmeat. We waited for about 5 minutes for a waitress and she came out and took our order. She took our order and read it back to us. The appetizers --spanakopita two orders did not come out. The soup did not come out. Then a spanakopita dinner arrived and we said we did not order that and she said that is what we have. It was terrible and tasted off. It had a stale greasy taste. Then all at once dinner arrived. One salad arrived and we then started a downward spiral. We now were upset. We did not get our appetizer, then soup, then salad, then dinner. We asked the waitress what was going on and did she know what she was doing. She said she might have ordered the spanakopita dinner and not the appetizer. We asked to speak to the manager who was the same lady that seated us without a smile and explained that we were very unhappy with the sequence of the food arrival. She asked us just what did we tell the waitress when the wrong appetizer arrived and said that the waitress should have told her. (Not our problem). The manager left the table and went into the kitchen. By now we were angry and wanted to leave. Our appetite gone when finally two appetizers came out and they tasted like they were fried in old grease, and one salad followed by two soups. I just sat there amazed by what they thought we would do with all of this food at once. We never saw our waitress again. The manager with a very sour face asked us if the food was good and some of it was. The manager came back to our table awhile later and I asked her why we were being ignored by our waitress and treated like this mess was our fault. She said that when there is a problem at the table that the manager takes over the table and that she did not mean to make us feel bad at all. She went back to the cash register and after a few minutes of waiting to order dessert she waived the check at us to come up to the cash register to pay. There was more, but I am done. The place is unclean the dishes are chipped and the place is going downhill. Too bad. read more

I had really high hopes for this place. We were greeted upon coming in. I However, it took the greeter several minutes to figure out where to seat us. There were plenty of empty tables. Once seated the server showed up and asked what we waited to drink (we hadn't looked at the menu). When she dropped off the drinks we ordered our food-French toast with bacon and my friend ordered steak and eggs. Finally, the food arrived by a runner. My French toast was soggy and didn't taste like anything. My friend ordered a medium rare steak but it was well-done and homefries didn't have any seasoning. I waited over 30 minutes for the Special and when I got it the food wasn't even hot !! It was barely lukewarm. I was constantly out of my beverage while my waitress walked back and forth and I would have to stop her and ask for a refill. My little girl got the kids spaghetti with meat sauce and it was so dry there was no sauce what so ever! All she had was dry noodles!! I would not recommend this place to Anyone!! So I feel bad that I have to leave this review but I feel that our service was subpar. Please note, the food was pretty decent though. Huge menu As you would expect from a diner with lots of choices: seafood, steak, comfort food meals, Greek, Italian, salads, great triple decker sandwiches, burger, etc. We had the crab soup, pot roast, turkey dinner, and Gyro platter. Crab soup didn't taste like crab soup although I could see the crab in it. It kind of just tasted like a tomato based soup with a lot of canned vegetables and some crab. Gyro platter excellent and fries are perfection. Pot roast dinner was really good. Sauce was tasty and the beef was a very nice consistency. Turkey dinner had real turkey, good stuffing, yummy mashed potatoes and gravy. So again no issues with the food and I would be back to try their other options. Here's the kicker! My turkey dinner meal didn't have a lot of cranberry sauce. So I asked our waiter for more cranberry sauce. He kind of ignored me and would not make eye contact, so I actually had to ask him 3 times. He went to the next table and literally rolled his eyes in plain view of me and my boyfriend sitting next to me! Like he wanted me to see him roll his eyes. He then went to the back to get the cranberry sauce, came back around and basically walked by our table, didn't even look in our direction and tossed it on the table. Really??!! I mean the restaurants not even busy and I don't think I was being demanding by asking for a little bit more cranberry sauce. Also my boyfriend ordered a slice of coconut cream pie and our waiter said you can get that later. And my boyfriend said no I want it now with my meal, please. He just likes to have his dessert with his meal. Quirky but definitely not an outrageous request. He went to get the coconut cream pie and did the same thing, just tossed it on the table at us. Maybe he's having a bad night. But our requests were not crazy! And believe it or not we actually left a 22% tip. I'd say for sure if we come back, I'll probably ask he's not our server again. The restaurant will not get five stars because of his service. Sorry not sorry. read more

This was my first time at Mountain View Diner and I fell in love with this cute place! I came by after last minute Christmas shopping one evening and I was curious about it so my sister and I tried it out...best decision ever. I loved how festive it was decked out in Christmas decorations. Our server Katherine was awesome and attentive. Just a fair warning the menu has a lot of options so good luck deciding. We originally came in for dessert but we split a steak and cheese with fries and the portion was huge! The fries were perfectly crisped and the sandwich was above average. She recommended their fried chicken basket for next time (takes a bit to come out but worth the wait). The breakfast menu looked amazing and I can only imagine how good the pancakes are. For dessert, our server recommended the pumpkin cheesecake and it was DELICIOUS! They also have sugar free desserts! Hands down the best diner in the area. I am having a hard time with this review. Servers and hostesses are top notch. Breakfast, especially the home fries, is outstanding. When we try a diner, we always try for breakfast and lunch/dinner because it seems something always falls short. We stopped for lunch after a movie, and the food was just not there. Hubby had a burger and fries, it was good. I ordered clam strips, they were over cooked and disgusting. We will definitely be back for breakfast, but stick to places who can make a lunch worth going back. read more

Strangely enough, it was really hard for me to decide between 2-3 stars for this diner. I went with three because at the end of the day, it WAS ok. Appearance: Some reviewers have called MV dirty. IMO, it wasn't dirty so much as a typical greasy spoon- vinyl booths, tile floors, and cheap black mats in the entryway and aisles. When we went around lunchtime on a Sunday, it was packed so we ended up in a booth by the restrooms. The booth and walls were clean and the area wasn't smelly. Staff: the hostesses were very friendly when we arrived, as well as when we paid. It was just me and the bf but the hostess gave us a choice of a small 2 person sized booth or the average 4 top booth. We took the smaller one since it was by the window. Our waitress was curt and took a while to greet us and take our order but she did check on us during the meal. Food: I'd never had corned beef hash in my life but decided to try it here. I learned I don't like corned beef hash. It wasn't horrible though and I didn't mind eating it mixed in with my scrambled eggs and ketchup. The wheat toast was fine, as were the grits. The golden brown pancakes reminded me of McDonald's hotcakes, which isn't necessarily bad, just don't expect fluffy, IHOP style pancakes. The home fries were awesome though! They were crunchy and crispy and well seasoned, everything home fries should be! Would I eat here again? I doubt it. But I don't feel it was a bad experience. Let me just say... I am a born and raised New Yorker, so diners hold a special place in my heart. Downside to that though is, I tend to compare all diners to back home. Well the good news is, this diner does not disappoint! My family and I come here at least once a week. It's a sweet old-school feeling place. A total 50s theme, complete with 50s music playing in the background. The staff are extremely nice! No seriously... my mom is always hugging members of the staff lol. A really great place to bring your family when you just don't feel like cooking and a cliche restaurant chain just won't do. The food is always amazing and affordable. As with any diner, you can order anything you want from the HUGE menu and they have it ready for you. But of course I always get the same thing or similar, because I'm predictable lol... usually anything with chicken or chicken salad. No matter when I come in, the food and ingredients are super fresh. The star of the show is the cake and pastry case at the front of the restaurant! Everything is fresh and what isn't fresh is taken right out of the rotation immediately. Do yourself a favor and order yourself a nice big slice of cheesecake. Tip: New cheesecake flavors are added according to season, so be sure to go and try them all! read more

We went on an early Sunday morning in the fall and were pleasantly surprised at how busy the diner was at 7am. The staff seemed to recognize the other patrons which leads one to assume that they are regulars at this establishment. After all, why wouldn't this diner have regulars? Their prices are very fair and their portions are HUGE! Plus, the staff are all very friendly and abided by the COVID-19 policies (masks and gloves worn when handling and delivering food). They made sure all tables with customers were socially distant and had ample reminders at the main entrance with reference to their new COVID-19 diner policies. We were attended to quite well even though our poor waitress was swamped with a plethora of tables and our food came out swiftly and was worth the wait. We took a lot of the food home as leftovers given the sheer size of their portions but that's always a good thing when going out to eat. All in all, a great and quaint diner that you get your bang for your buck which is always appreciated in fiscally stringent times such as the pandemic of 2020. read more

We stopped by for lunch at the Mountain View Diner. It is a typical diner environment, padded booths, chachki decor, etc. I actually like typical diner decor. Our server, Tuesday, was great. Very friendly and attentive. The problem was our food. My daughter ordered a kid's spaghetti with tomato sauce. It had a very strange after taste and she refused to eat it (my child LOVES spaghetti). My husband and me both tried it and agreed it was strange tasting. Our waitress took it back and brought a kid's hot dog meal with fries. We weren't charged for the 2nd child meal. My daughter said the hot dog was good and the fries were average. I ordered the melon (cantaloupe) with cottage cheese. It was fine. They gave a huge portion of cottage cheese. The other issue was my husband's meal. We usually go to diners for breakfast food. He got scrambled eggs with corn beefed hash, home fries and toast. He said the eggs and toast were okay but the corned beef hash and home fries were awful. I tasted both and agreed. Again, things just had a weird after taste. I don't know what was going on that day but we honestly won't be back. I have had breakfast there on a previous occasion. It was unmemorable but not terrible. This time was truly terrible. He didn't complain about his meal, but didn't eat it either. On a side note, the bathrooms are extremely dark and in need of an update. Unfortunately there really aren't a lot of good diners in the area. Our favorite is the Silver Diner, which is a chain, but has consistently good food. read more

Two other tables that sat 5-10 minutes after us and got their food before us. Food arrived at 12:35. After asking for a manager she simply told me "were busy" as an excuse even though a table with 6 people on it got their food before us opposed to our table of 2. Will not be coming back here. Came for lunch today. Wife had Fried Oysters for $12.95. It included soup (Manhattan Clam Chowder), side salad, fries, and cole slaw. I had Fried Catfish for $10.95 that included soup (I also selected Manhattan Clam Chowder but chicken and rice was available), side salad, fries, and veg-of-day (canned peas). Wife liked the fried oysters. The catfish had more cake and deep-fry oil than fish. I prefer catfish at Cracker Barrel, lightly fried in corn meal. Fries were your average thin-cut frozen fries. I thought that they could do better than CANNED peas for the only vegetable-of-the-day. How 'bout fresh broccoli, spinach, or baby carrots. NOT. The salad was standard side salad. Wife reported tasty cole slaw. Overall, my meal was 2.0, and she liked hers as 4.0 so combined the outcome is 3.0* read more
