Sat in the Parlor Car and had the pleasure to be served by Chase: very attentive, personable and went above and beyond for a few of our requests. The trains themselves were restored beautifully and quite comfortable and little did I know we would have the best seat in the house: right behind the diesel that got repositioned ( hubby is the train expert; forgive my probable incorrect recall and terminology!) Views were absolutely stunning, and exactly why these trips book up months in advance, particularly for the fall colors. Great narration by Mary as stated above, with lots of interesting information, not just related to trains. The highlight was the stop at the Falls- gorgeous and lucky there was rain recently so there just wasn't just a trickle! Lots of time to check it out before our return trip back. Met Stretch and Terry as well-- outstanding employees who truly care about giving the passengers an excellent experience. Food on our car was a make your own sandwich spread: roast beef was excellent but my one request is that they offer non red meat choices (like chicken) as my husband does not eat red meat (thank you to Chase for going to another car so my husband could have chicken for his sandwich). Gift shop as well at the depot. This being our fifth train ride in as many days, this was definitely THE BEST all around.

The lady at the counter in the museum was helpful and pleasant. Beth was our Parlor Car hostess. She attended to our every need and more. Her descriptions of the scenery were helpful. The lunch she served was beyond our expectations. The announcements over the loud speaker for all the cars regarding scenery were helpful. The High Falls stop was beautiful. If you don't have children under the age of 12 and can reserve the Parlor Car, I highly recommend it. The décor was great. The restroom was convenient in the same car. Our return trip allowed us to watch the back of the train move through the tunnel and around the bends. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Elkins which was a great hotel with a wonderful view. Dinner at Maggies in downtown Elkins made our whole experience memorable.

One of the worst taxi services I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I've delt with their…read moreshoddy service until now because it was the only alternative, but after my experience today I think the bus is going to be a more viable option. I called at 11:45 to catch the Greyline bus in Westover at 12:30, headed to Clarksburg. A taxi arrived at 12:07 and picked up another passenger who I had seen call for service ten minutes after I had. The driver had assured me that another driver would be coming to get me shortly, after I had notified him that I had a scheduled bus I couldn't miss. I waited and watched two unoccupied cabs drive past me at 12:14 and 12:20, which would have had plenty of time to make the four minute trip to my destination. After being passed by the second cab I called the dispatcher to ask if I still had someone on the way for me because I had a bus I needed to catch at 12:30. Or, at least that's what I was going to say, except as soon as I said "Hi, I was just wondering when to expect my cab..." I was cut off by the dispatcher in a tepid voice saying "It's going to be there shortly" and was hung up on. Aghast by that, I waited for the taxi to arrive to let the driver know his services wouldn't be needed since I wouldn't make it to my destination in time anyway. He arrived at 12:29, the same driver that could have picked me up at 12:07, leaving me plenty of time to arrive at my destination. After being treated so terribly by dispatch and never arriving anywhere I've needed to be on time since I first started using this service, it's a wonder to me why they are still in buisness or why a better alternative hasn't popped up. I'm so terribly disappointed by my experiences with them that I had to sign up just to post this, and hopefully others take heed of their terrible ratings and never give their hard earned money to this sham of a "buisness."

The 3-hour ride to Petersburg was a relaxing and peaceful slow and scenic trip that just gave you a chance to unwind. Additionally, the dining experience on a dining car was such a memorable experience and highly recommended! The staff offered historical information and facts to support the various scenes we passed through. The views were amazing and, as advertised, we were able to see many eagles along the route. The way back was raining but no less enjoyable. This should be on your to-do list for sure! It brings the kid out in you for sure!

Boarding at Romney with a three-hour layover in Petersburg, here's our experience doing the all-day journey. 1) Tickets: Order online and pick up the tickets 30-60 minutes before boarding at the ticket counter at the train station. There's a large parking lot next door. Once you have your tickets, stand in the line marked with your letter. Or shop at the gift shop before they board. 2) Experience: Chugging along slowly, this vintage train is from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s depending on which car you're in. We did the premier dining experience with a light breakfast, snacks, and a three-course dinner. The train itself has a little snack bar that accepts cash only, a gift shop that's also cash only, and a viewing car. Each car gets an opportunity to go onto the ceiling-less car through the canyon to see bald eagles. We saw around ten of them! As you ride, a woman announces points of interest. Outside of that, enjoy the views or bring a few card games to play or a book to read. There's no WiFi on the train and outlets are very sparse. The train is old and it shows. Some cars are nicer than others. There are a few clean restrooms throughout the train. On the three-hour layover in Petersburg, we opted for the Smoke Hole Caverns. A bus picked us up and drove 15 minutes to the caverns and resort. The caverns are small, but interesting and the resort has mini golf, gem mining, and the state's largest gift shop. 3) Food: The dinner is where they shined! The salad, alfredo with chicken, and chocolate cake were good! The breakfast was okay as was the pepperoni and cheese for an afternoon snack. If you love quality coffee, fuel up BEFORE the train. They offer bottomless coffee, but it's very weak and not good. The free-flowing sweet tea and lemonade were good!
