Room above us sounded like there were people running all day/ evening, and we needed to call the front desk one night at 11PM to get them to stop. ALSO: noise from outside parking lots ( voices, car remotes..,) audible even though we were on the second story and windows closed. AND we were across from the ice machine, we heard that innumerable times, as well as voices-/ this is not a room location issue, but rather a poorly constructed building one, as none of these have been problematic to me in the past.. *pillows and mattresses not the most comfortable PROS: *complimentary laundry ( detergent not included). Got to do one load during a long road-trip *fitness center decent/ has a BOSU so I was able to do a good workout, but bicycle could be better maintained) but thanks for having it)*pool and sauna ( not used) *staff-most were pretty friendly *walking distance around town NEUTRAL: *complimentary breakfast: the omelets and potatoes were bland, turkey sausages were over cooked. They ran out of bananas one day but I guess that's on me for arriving later in the morning. But I guess we got some food.

Roadtrip! But, be…read morecareful - you might miss the driveway. Yes, even some of us seniors still take (as SNL Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd said) "wild and crazy" road trips. Except in our case....maybe not so wild, just a bit crazy. Truth be told, there was some method to our madness in straying from the beaten path. After a 3000+ mile driving trek across the Southern and Mid-Atlantic states, my wife and I decided to avoid high traffic truck-infested roads on our return home to Middle Tennessee. So we programmed our GPS to use only secondary and tertiary rural roads through Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. What a hoot...what a great trip! At the outset of the trip (and for the record) the Isaac Jackson Hotel isn't exactly off the beaten path, but then again, it doesn't sit right next to a major Interstate. Regardless, it was on our route and it did fit our needs perfectly. Only tiny glitch - again at the outset - was that we overshot the driveway to the hotel. A quick trip around the block and we were back on track. The hotel sits up on a hill overlooking a part of Elkins and the driveway is adjacent to a nice restaurant, the 1863 Grill. You actually have to drive through the parking lot of the 1863 to get to the hotel! Once conquered, the hill proved negligible in our stay, and we quickly settled into a beautiful, comfortable hotel. Nice size room, clean and well-stocked with toiletries, towels and essentials. Great shower with detachable hand wand. Clean and neat accommodations. After a comfortable night, a notable moment: breakfast. Attention to detail! The breakfast lounge is spacious and spread out over a beautifully decorated lobby that includes traditional table and chair sitting areas, a larger family-size or conference table, and a cozy fireside sitting area with overstuffed chairs. The selections include standard "free hot breakfast items" along with some locally prepared specials. The egg and cheese omelet is plain but can be enhanced with the addition of sausage or you might add one of the small containers of Tostito Salsa and make it a Southwest style omelet. Add a side of locally prepared stewed apples (or use them to top your "make your own" fresh waffle. If you lean more toward a simple bagel or English muffin with jelly, pick one of several individually wrapped (yes, personally wrapped for freshness and to keep wayward, clumsy fingers off). Cold cereal, fresh juices, hot freshly brewed coffee or tea, or a glass of Vita water...the selection is amazing. But wait...there's just a bit more. How about some freshly cut fruit or...on this morning, famous fresh 1863 Grill Cinnamon buns....Oh, so, sweet! And a real Roadtrip delight only slightly off the beaten path.

The Isaac Jackson is an older hotel which has been remodeled recently & looks very nice. The lobby is quite large & the entire hotel smelled nice! No musty smells at all!! The rooms were very clean and spacious. The bathrooms were large & clean as well. The beds were very comfortable & I got a nice night of sleep on them. They do offer complimentary breakfast which included biscuits & gravy, sausage, potatoes, cereals, waffles, juices, coffee & some of the best damn cinnamon rolls you will ever eat! I must also say that the hotel staff was very friendly.

I was startled awake numerous times by at least 2 barking dogs in the adjoining room I complained to the much less than sympathetic front desk the next morning at checkout. When I received my receipt by email I found that I was rewarded with a $75 pet fee added to my stay. I contacted the hotel numerous times but they will not return calls. I did receive an email letting me know the hotel has been pet friendly for "furry friends" since sometime in 2022. No mention of the fraudulent billing in the email. Avoid the hassles and unprofessionalism at this hotel, stay elsewhere.

In fact, during my stay, I found a fishing hook and a spider in the first room I was assigned to. When I brought this issue to the attention of the front desk staff, Jean, the staff member on duty, seemed overwhelmed and took almost 90 minutes to check me in and assign me a new room, which was unfortunately even dirtier than the first one. To make matters worse, the manager, Cassandra, was dismissive and unhelpful during our conversation, failing to address my concerns or provide any meaningful solutions. The noise level in this hotel is horrible so loud there is no way anyone can get any sleep. The A/C sounded like a 747 plane was running its turbine in the room. The state of disrepair at the front of the building and the sad exterior lounging area with a BBQ only serve to reinforce my belief that this hotel does not deserve to be associated with the Hilton brand and is not even worthy of being called a motel.
