I went full Yogi this weekend on a 2 day retreat at the Himalayan Institute and it was ohmazing…read more The institute hosts lots of yoga and meditation retreats of different lengths and price points which you can sign up for on their website. The one I chose was $250 for Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. There are several types of accomodations you can choose from, ranging from single beds in a shared bathroom to a lovely 2 bedroom 2 level cottage with a pullout couch and kitchenette and lots of teas. We stayed at a cottage and really liked it. We saw some giant cockroaches by the dorm rooms, so don't come expecting the Four Seasons here. The wifi is spotty in the rooms and basically everywhere except the cafe. Meals are served for only limited times during the day (about an hour and a half) - buffet style and you put your used plates/ bowl/ cutlery into large bins after. For lunch and dinner there are usually a few soups, a main dish (for example baba ganoush and pita, quinoa salad), some rice or grains, a salad bar, some fruit, and an assortment of breads (including a gluten free bread) and everything is vegetarian. For breakfast there was oatmeal and some other grains, yogurt, fruit, a delicious tofu scramble, hard boiled eggs, and a smoothie. The food is surprisingly good and filling but I don't know that I could eat it for more than a few days. Meals are $30 a day which you reserve when you book your accommodation. There is also a black tea and decaf tea always available so bring a travel mug! There is a beautiful new shrine open almost 24 hours for quiet meditation. There is also a sanctuary in the shrine which is open for only an hour before breakfast and dinner. There are small blankets you can grab to sit on and chairs around the altar. If you're feeling like a warrior and want to practice tree pose on a tree, you can take one of the 5 hiking trails around the area. Red is very well marked, blue is well marked until it's not and then you just turn right, walk through 2 holes in fences and you're at a beautiful waterfall! Green is well marked for half of it (around a cute pond) and then you might get lost in the woods (or maybe that's just me). There were a few other trails we didn't get to check out but the reception area has a map with the routes and estimated times. There are daily Hatha yoga classes at the institute that you can attend, a cute cafe, and a great gift shop with awesome clothes, books, jewelery, everything a yogi could ever want! There's also a chocolate factory with daily tours (and samples!) We loved the lemon ginger chocolate. Right next to the chocolate factory is a place called Sound of Music Hill which has beautiful views. You can also book massages (1hr for $80) which is a really great price and very relaxing. There is a small playground for kids too. If you are looking to deepen your yoga practice and get away for a weekend and enjoy nature, unplug, and stay in one place all weekend where you don't have to make any decisions, I can't recommend this place enough.

Review only for Treetop and Zipline Adventure…read more Pretty disappointed especially since we didn't get to finish the whole adventure. There's an optional Black course at the end that we ran out of time so we ended up having to get lowered down. Our group took longer during the obstacle course intro area which was counted towards the time. The driver even came over to see what the hold up was. So we began on the actual course late. You're packed tightly into a van and driven up to the start of the Treetop Adventure. I've done another Zipline course excursion before and it included a lot of hiking whereas this one was pretty minimal. It definitely differed in safety. There seemed to only be one size harness and no one was weighed or height measured. One of the kids in the group definitely struggled to reach things. Since we were in the back we ended up helping people. Which I don't mind, I'm all for lending a hand. But on the other excursion I did there were two employees, one in the front and one in the back and I feel like that would've streamlined the process to move quicker. It was pretty inconsistent whether the instructor was in the front, back, or middle of the group. I also wish there had been some organization with the order of the group. There was another couple where the lady had done this course multiple times before and the instructor told her to go first. But the kids/teenagers wanted to be in the front of the line. They tended to be slower which slowed down the process. The kids pushed to go first and then their families followed so we ended up being stuck in the back. And the instructor didn't really enforce things. Like at the end with the optional Black course you have to get up this tricky ladder in order to be allowed on the course. You get two tries. The teen in front of us struggled and said he wanted to stop but ended up being helped up his second try, just to be immediately let down once he got up on the initial platform. Since we were running late on time my husband and I stood at the front to try to get on this last obstacle course first but the teens ended up rushing in front of us so we were again at the end. 5 of us ended up having to be let down due to time. I wasn't a huge fan of that since she actually lowered us right into a bush and I got a bunch of bug bites. Things largely depend on the group. Things just went slowly for our's and besides the ending 3 people had to be let down by the instructor (which is pretty time consuming). Another disappointing thing were the ziplines. They were pretty short and there were also some where everyone (including the instructor) stopped short and had to pull themselves to the end. At one the instructor even stayed behind to push a younger girl to help her make it further but she also stopped short. The lady who had done the courses before said she's never seen it happen this frequently. I think the lines were too slack. There's water coolers scattered around the course but no paper cups. So bring a backpack or fanny pack with a bottle. Also the lodge lost power when we got back. And we had a longer drive back so it made for an interesting bathroom visit at the end..

We went on ice cream night and while we enjoyed our (very generously portioned and delicious) ice cream, they let us know exactly what to expect, do, and how to stay safe. I immediately felt we were in good hands and it put my mind at ease. I also want to shout out to them for having vegan ice cream options (oat milk), we were delighted our brother's vegan family could feel included and take part in all parts of this experience with us. The rail bikes have a basket as well as cup holders, so don't be afraid to bring your water!! We enjoyed the beautiful lush scenery, some old Graffitied trains, and even saw quite a bit of wild life (deer and birds)! It was a balmy night, but on the rail bike I never felt hot, being near the water and surrounded by trees had a very nice cooling effect even while the sun was still out. We went our first night staying in the area and while on the rail bike my son confidently declared "this is the best vacation ever!!" He really enjoyed it just as much as we did. This was a great way to safely get into nature and get some movement in our day as well!

The good: Over the decades I've been to dozens of gyms from the east coast to Gold's and World Gym…read morein Honolulu, HI; and including large university athletic centers. DBW is one of the best equipped weightlifting gyms I've ever seen. Mike has dumbbells up to 200 lbs (yes, 200, that's not a misprint) and even a tibialis anterior machine (a what?). There's no indoor pool or track, but I don't care. There's a more than adequate selection and volume of cardio equipment. Mike's wife, Alex, has also incorporated her tanning and nail salon business into the facility. But the weights and weightlifting machines are what really stand out. The bad: Many members are in the bad habit of leaving weights on the bars and machines. I would estimate that at any given time except, perhaps, shortly after opening in the morning, more than half of the commonly used machines have weights left on them. Unloading 100 lb plates or stacks of 45's (clearly not left by a rookie who doesn't know any better) is an annoyance for myself, but could be an impossibility for a woman or a person of small stature. The ugly: Most of Mikes bars, even the curl bars, have gotten bent, some so seriously as to be virtually unusable. This is presumably due to abuse by overzealous meat heads, but I'm sure that happens at all commercial gyms. This causes the center of mass of the bar to be off-center such that, if any significant amount of weight is loaded on the bar, it will rotate in one's hands. At best, this is an inconvenient annoyance. At worst, when doing any type of pressing movement with a significant weight, the unexpected rotation could cause loss of control and injury. Perhaps there are sturdier bars available? The final word: An outstandingly well-equipped gym, especially for a town the size of Honesdale.

We brought a new shooter along with us, so we rented a 9mm CZ from them to keep things manageable before he tried my 1911 in Lord's favourite caliber. While the range is on the smaller side (around 8 ports), the size of the facility is just right thanks to the incredible staff. The registration process was quick, smooth, and hassle-free. I'll admit I'm not the best teacher (besides explaining basic safety), but I didn't need to worry; the RSOs were fantastic. They were incredibly attentive and patient, providing my friend with tons of great advice and hands-on tips that really helped him feel comfortable. If you are in the Milford area looking for a welcoming, well-run place to exercise your 2nd Amendment rights, this is undoubtedly one of the best options around. I'll definitely be stopping by frequently. Highly recommended!
