I was a little nervous after reading the most recent reviews, but I'm happy to report that I will definitely take my dog to Vail Doggie Day Spa again if I need to. The staff took great care of my fur baby and even texted me a picture of her goofing around. The facility is in a weird, industrial-looking place and I don't think there is grass inside the facility for the dogs to play on. However, I do know that my dog got to feel grass under her paws because they filled me in on her potty schedule when I went to take her out for the day. Oh yeah that was one thing I absolutely loved about Vail Doggie Day Spa... we were able to come get her for the day and bring her back in the evening. We only "Checked Out" our dog once because she was so tired from playing with the other dogs she didn't really care about hiking with us. She even started whining when we drove away... such a diva. When you walk into the place does smell pretty bad... but, you know, it's full of dogs. I'm not spending the night there so I don't really care and my dog eats cat vomit so I know she doesn't care. When we picked her up and took her home she was a little stinky so I gave her a bath and then she slept for an entire day. My dog was returned to me exhausted, happy, and in one piece. Gash on my dog's head!…read more Back story: We gave our 2yr 4mo old male pup a calming melatonin chew (that lasts for 12 hours) in his breakfast at 8am in preparation for his grooming at noon that day (1/13/21). This was his first and last time at this particular groomer. No one at VVPG were wearing masks when my husband dropped off our dog but that's besides the point. 3-4 hours later he was shaking and seemed terrified when my husband picked him up. The photos of the breed that I texted to the owner were completely disregarded or acknowledged even when she encouraged us sending them. She trimmed his head and paws. His torso and neck were not trimmed at all. His butt area was clipped so short he's been dragging his butt on the carpet because he's so uncomfortable. Worst cut ever? Yes. She clipped his face like a poodle and he's not a poodle. Right before bed that night we noticed a bump on his head, and it was discolored against his white/apricot hair. He had a bloody scab!! The following morning and afternoon I called and texted her that I was looking for an explanation regarding the bloody gash on my dog's head. She will not call or text me back. She hangs up on my call and immediately texts me, "please text me," and never responds. I can only imagine how stressful it is being a groomer but she shouldn't be in business! He's had nicks here and there from past grooms which is expected but this is significantly different. The attached photo was from the following day.

They have a fantastic program set up for residents and visitors to the Aspen area where you can go and take the dogs for a walk, or a hike or spend the day with them at the park or your favorite coffee shop. Each dog is equipped with a coat that lets everyone know that he's "ADOPTABLE". That's what brought us in to just "look at" the dogs... The cages for the animals are large and clean, there is a HUGE area in the back with giant boulders that the big dogs can run up on and overlook the Aspen airport as well as the whole valley. The area where you can meet your prospective adoptee is also huge with park benches, a tree, balls and doggie treat so you can really hang out with and check out how your dog is going to behave. To help with funding they also offer grooming and boarding on premises. I think this place should be the model for all other shelters everywhere.. Just an amazing process and facilities. We couldn't be happier with our mixed breed lab pup.

The shelter is completely kill-free, so animals come from all over the states to be sheltered here. Adopting is easy, and the pet comes neutered/spayed and with all its shots. You can go and help socialize pets, or take them out for the day, a simple walk, a hike, or even take one home for the night! All of these animals are great souls who just want someone to love and be loved by. The facilities are wonderful and have been completely revamped from what they used to be. Located right across from the airport, it is easy to get to, so stop by and say hello! Maybe you'll walk away with a new family member!
