This was the coolest animal shelter I've ever been to. Not only were the animals happy and well cared for, you could tell everyone that worked there really cared as well. They have a fantastic program set up for residents and visitors to the Aspen area where you can go and take the dogs for a walk, or a hike or spend the day with them at the park or your favorite coffee shop. Each dog is equipped with a coat that lets everyone know that he's "ADOPTABLE". That's what brought us in to just "look at" the dogs... The cages for the animals are large and clean, there is a HUGE area in the back with giant boulders that the big dogs can run up on and overlook the Aspen airport as well as the whole valley. The area where you can meet your prospective adoptee is also huge with park benches, a tree, balls and doggie treat so you can really hang out with and check out how your dog is going to behave. To help with funding they also offer grooming and boarding on premises. I think this place should be the model for all other shelters everywhere.. Just an amazing process and facilities. The Rescue Center is absolutely wonderful. Seth Sachson, a family friend, is a really great guy and truly cares about each individual animal that comes through his doors. The shelter is completely kill-free, so animals come from all over the states to be sheltered here. Adopting is easy, and the pet comes neutered/spayed and with all its shots. You can go and help socialize pets, or take them out for the day, a simple walk, a hike, or even take one home for the night! All of these animals are great souls who just want someone to love and be loved by. The facilities are wonderful and have been completely revamped from what they used to be. Located right across from the airport, it is easy to get to, so stop by and say hello! Maybe you'll walk away with a new family member! read more

Be careful going here. They do good things for the animals in their care, but do not expect any customer service. The staff is not trained fully, so they will tell you one thing while Seth says another. They will also only accept specific animals, not any animal in Pitkin County. If possible, go to the Glenwood Springs shelter -= great staff, amazing facility and great customer service! read more

This is an amazing place for anyone to frequent and support who loves animals. Although we aren't looking to adopt a pup, we love to buy our dog food and other goodies rom Seth's team because it supports the shelter mission. (And the food is the best quality in Aspen, to boot!). Oh, and then there's the awesome benefit of seeing adorable dogs, puppies and cats and playing with them if the timings right. Who knows...one of these days I could walk in with the intent to buy dog food and walk out with a four-legged new friend!?! read more

This is the only dog kennel/ boarding in Aspen. It is right across from the airport and helps support the local shelter. Our dog, Weego, had a good time and didn't get sick! Bonus!! Would definitely use them the next time we are in Aspen. read more

They take such good care of both the shelter and boarding dogs here. This is a no kill shelter which makes all the difference to me. I'm a voulenteer there on a regular basis and they have the sweetest dogs that need loving home. There have a great dog walking program that you can go and spend time with the dogs or cats. These dogs have become some of my best freinds. read more

Seth Sachson, the founder, President/CEO and the Aspen Animal Shelter team are simply put, some of the most devoted, caring, loving, responsible, knowledgeable shelter people I have ever encountered from Florida to California to Colorado. This 'no-kill' facility is about five years old and is clean, with excellent housing, kennels, runs and open area for dogs and a large beautiful cat room. Volunteers can walk or hike with dogs and they also sell good, toys, bedding and other pet supplies at a very competitive price. We have volunteered and attended events and Aspen can be proud to have one of the finest animal shelters in the nation! I recently volunteered at their first community carnival and I was in charge of the "puppy room." A whole afternoon of engaging with 10 beautiful, playful 3 week old puppies (all adopted at 8 weeks) and allowing the public to carefully engage with them (no picking up and no moving them), gentle petting and pictures only.
