Fantastic place for a wedding! Quite the lovely venue we've got here! There is a second private story for all your creepy needs but it does cost extra. Keep that in mind. The interior has been well-maintained with no flaws that immediately come to mind. I mean, it's an old building so I'm not going to hate on the bathroom wallpaper or rickety windows. I think the only thing that was missing was some outdoor space. I wish there was some place to put a deck or balcony or something. Would've been a nice touch. read more

Ours was the second wedding in the family to be held at Mount Baker Community Clubhouse, and for plenty of good reason. It's a beautiful building, simple, Craftsman style, full of windows as the best feature, and beautiful wood floor. It feels like a place for family and friends to gather, and everyone loved it, despite the fact that we managed to get married on the hottest day this summer. The venue manager and staff are nothing but helpful, answering a million questions from a whole summer's worth of brides and more. We were always treated with prompt helpful answers, we never felt like a number. Not to mention the fact that they helped me connect with our caterer, Madres Kitchen/Events, which was a very happy marriage, since they already knew the venue well. read more

Nice pictures sure make things seem much prettier than IRL, don't they? There are many "charming early century" structures but not all are that interesting, atleast to me. This one is pretty simple and plain, with mostly different hues of cold whites and grays. The wooden floor is similar to the older wooden bowling alley planks. A door hinge, or 2, could use some WD-40 and also brakes for some doors. The main hall is spacious and has nice wooden ceiling fans, though. Ma has been inviting me to attend one of the monthly vegetarian buffets they hold here. I just went to the recent one and the food was great (moist eggplant!). The rotating theme was Thai but I forgot who the catering business was this month. read more

I had a great experience working with mount baker community club to host my nonprofit annual formal this past weekend! Everything from coordinating the event to finalizing the logistics of the venue was extremely smooth. The banquet hall was set up with the structure as discussed and everything was ready to go on time. The banquet hall has a very warm and homey ambience. My event hosted about 100 people and we could have easily fit an additional 50 people into the hall. The kitchen and entrance area is very quaint and welcoming. I highly recommend using this venue during the daytime because the lighting and windows is phenomenal. The evening dim lights are a bit dull but still creates a very homey vibe. Will definitely be planning future events with Mount Baker community club in the future! read more

I came here with my friend and her kids for a little kiddos concert. It was so cute. I had no idea what to do with this explosion of cuteness. What a great community. The cost was 5$ a person and the kids seemed to go nutty with songs and dancing and instruments. It was a pretty great way to spend a rainy Saturday morning. read more

Great venue - for kids events and lots of local community gatherings. Has been a great resource to meet new people in the community and take part in some fun events. Film nights, historic tours, Candidates Forum, Pot Luck events and the Christmas ships add to the magic of the festive season. Lots going on for people in the community and great venue for off-sites, weddings and parties. Mount Baker is a real gem of a neighborhood and the Club adds to the sense of community. read more

I would give this place 5 stars had "Buzz Killington" from management not been a factor. The Great: The venue is large, add sun with the huge windows and this place really shines. Hardwood floors, great space for a bar... the perfect venue for a wedding, fundraiser... really any event. The Horrible: The woman from management. This lady SCOWLED from the main office that overlooks the event floor. Many people mentioned how off putting it was. Not to mention, she made herself at home, hung out on the floor while the event was going on, scowling at people. She even had the audacity to harass the bride. Its 5pm in the afternoon and she's saying there are complaints about the band being loud. They are a live band, playing in the afternoon, give me a break. I spent time outside - it wasnt soo loud that required a complaint. Walk 50 ft from the venue (houses are much further than that) and you can barely hear a thing. At the end of the day - the venue really is beautiful. It's a shame that such a bitter woman has to ruin the party. I would not recommend this place in the future and I hope they deal with the problem - Buzz Killington. read more

I am going to have my wedding here soon. It was not my first choice but that is only because I have never heard of it before. I was in a bind because the Seattle city parks dept screwed me in a big way. The space is beautiful and so is the neighborhood. It is across the street from Coleman park which extends to Lake Washington. The best part of the space is the manager, Sam. He is sooooooo sweet. He is also blingtasktic. You will only find out what I mean if you meet him. The second best thing about this place is that it is a big beautiful room with a ceiling that is two stories high. The prices are really reasonable at $1300 for 8 hours. This may not sound cheap but if you or your friend gets their newsletter and live in the 98144 area code, it is HALF PRICE! There is lots of street parking and they are extremely flexible with their rules and regulations. This was a huge issue with the Seattle parks dept. The city inundated me with an endless list of rules and no nos. They suck! Then there is the Mt Baker community club... Any caterer you want, including mom. Wanna BBQ outside the club? Thats cool, just don't set the building on fire. City requires fire permit. You can have candles without paying for a fire permit. Yes, the city requires this. I don't need a million dollar liability license to use a banquet license to serve liquor to my guests. I don't have to get married under a basketball hoop!!! You can also have them set up and put away the table and chairs for $150. What is there not to love? update: On the day of the wedding the person who was suppose to come and open the doors didn't show up until 5 min before the scheduled time. Then she took off to the coffee shop for over 30 minutes so we couldn't get in upstairs to hang the decorations. She was pretty lame but I don't blame the center. It was still beautiful. read more

Came here with several friends for a fundraiser/auction/charity event that was catered by a friend. The venue? I love "old world charm" and the turn of the century style, but no... There's one bathroom per sex, covered in wallpaper from 1992. Think: forest green and pastels. This venue needs a major renovation to preserve the classic character. The staff is excellent, and the management is excellent, I would personally never choose this venue for a wedding. I'd be mortified. Something a bit more low key, like a fundraiser, sure. But a wedding? No way. Unless you pay for a valet service, your guests will park blocks and blocks away, and come to what looks like a dilapidated home and downstairs into the main room. This venue has excellent potential, but again, needs a major renovation to preserve the classic character of the era it was built. Not a hodge podge of modern, contemporary, and classic. read more

I grew up in the Mount Baker Neighborhood and the Community Club played an important part of my childhood. My mom took aerobics here, I had Girl Scout meetings, the annual home tour started here, and it was the host of many great events. When I was in college - the club fell victim to an arsonist but the community rallied together to re-build bigger and better. They were careful to stick with the authentic architecture and turn of the century touches all while adding in modern touches (particularly in the kitchen). The club is two stories tall and features a beautiful hard-wood floor ballroom on the lower level. The soaring ceilings have amazing chandeliers that are truly breathtaking. There are restrooms, elevator, small meeting space, and a full kitchen on this level as well. You could easily have an event for 250 people in this space. The upper level has a smaller carpeted meeting space that overlooks the ballroom as well as a small office for the staff. There is a significant rental discount for neighborhood members! read more

Beautiful old place. My friend's wedding was there and it was awesome. The space is real big and there's a huge room that overlooks the whole thing. The surroundings are also real nice, very lush. I really don't know any of the history or management or anything, but props all around. read more

Decent street parking in proximity to the Mt. Baker Community Club. We attended a cello performance there Sunday afternoon. Plenty of space for ticket and CD sales, refreshments, and lots of seating around an intimate stage for four cellists. What stood out was the big bright windows, lighting, and great acoustics. read more

Quint facility in a hidden neighborhood. I had a Zumba class in the main ballroom there. Clean, very spacious; it has a big mirror, some barres on the wall, a couple of electric fans, and a legit sound system. Big windows let in plenty of natural light too! read more

Everyone knows that wedding planning can be stressful, so when vendors add to the angst, it's unacceptable. My fiancé and I had made an appointment to view the club weeks in advance and were really looking forward to checking out the venue. We arrived right on time only to find that no one was there to give us a tour. I called the number provided in my email confirmation twice before we jumped ship. I emailed our contact only to receive a vaguely apologetic response with no attempt to reschedule or accept fault. This is definitely not the way to earn new business. GORGEOUS, helpful staff, affordable, and memorable! I had my wedding here just on 02.12.11 and it was the most AMAZING day of my life. Leading up to the day was working with Tara - she has the BEST customer service any Bride-to-Be would dream of! :) Simply breathtaking with the sconce lighting, black and white checkered tiles for entry, hardwood flooring throughout the entire ballroom that I hear are all original!!!! The huge tall window create such a perfect vibe for a wedding.... I couldn't imagine a better or more fitting place to have had my wedding!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! read more

What a gorgeous facility! We held a wedding show here, and have stopped by several times beforehand to hold meetings, a photo shoot, model casting call, etc. The management are so helpful and nice (thanks Tara and Dave!). My husband and I got married here a month ago, and I wouldn't change a thing. I've read the reviews before me, and understand that if you need a place with perfect wallpaper in the bathroom and impeccably preserved details, you might want to go a little more upscale. That wasn't what we wanted - we wanted a place with character and charm that made us and our loved ones feel comfortable, and that's exactly what we got. It was beautiful and elegant and unique and cozy. The windows are stunning and let in natural light - our wedding pictures turned out amazingly, and we hardly had to do any major decoration because the space was so clean and pretty as-is. There are high ceilings, which make the space feel large and vintage, and the entire floor is a dance floor, so we didnt' have to rent one. When the lights were turned down as it got dark, we had candles on all of the tables. The room's painted a soft warm shade of grey, so it practically glowed. It was really something. We were also on a (crazy) small budget - one some of my friends told me wasn't even possible. It was, and we stuck to it. Mt. Baker is the most affordable place I could find in the Seattle area, short of having a major hook-up, and it was serendipitously my favorite. The staff was also incredible: Tara got back to me on every question I had. When I ran into a wall while figuring out decorations, she'd give me gentle and super helpful suggestions. She was flexible, and helpful. She was happy to set up times for me to come back and see the space. Since I was making so many of the decorations myself, I came back a few times! She was great to my vendors, and knew everything there was to know about the clubhouse. Plus she seemed really invested in the space, and I have to say, I like a place that has a story, and a place that people really love and cherish. It is definitely that kind of a place. David was our Coordinator on the day of. So cute. He was helpful as well, and also really easy-going. He even talked about coordinating his tie to our wedding colors (although I have to admit that on the day of, it flew by so quickly that I'm not sure if he did or not). The day after the wedding I got an email from Tara following up. She thanked us for having our wedding there, and was so kind and warm that I wanted to get married all over again so that we can rent the space one more time. And my guests RAVED. Everyone thought it was stunning and perfect. When it was filled with flowers and candlelight it was incredibly romantic but not stiff in the slightest and they loved that. And no one complained about the one bathroom per gender (and we had 125 guests!). In fact, we had a ball in the women's bathroom, laughing and chatting about all sorts of things. This building is one of my favorite places in the world now. I am so glad we had our wedding here. We looked so many other places, too - but the charm and quiet beauty that the Clubhouse offered ultimately won out, and clearly paid off. It was really marvelous. read more

We used the Mt Baker clubhouse for our wedding reception. They were easy to work with, so helpful, and very reasonably priced. Our family and friends had an amazing time and they all talked about how it was a perfect venue. We had about 100 people and there was still plenty of space, without feeling either cramped or like there was too much space left over. They set up the tables and opened up for the caterers... Really, it went more smoothly even than we had hoped. GREAT working with you! read more

Disabled guests, beware! If you can walk unassisted, this is a wonderful place to plan a party or attend an event. If you use a cane, walker or wheelchair, maybe you should go somewhere else. I walk with a cane, and my daughter is in a wheelchair. I've attended two events, and now I have to decide about a third. You see, the elevator (for disabled people?) is often out of service, and (to my astonishment) often used for storage, or as a place to load the throw-away boxes from the event's supplies. Sorry. Both events I attended were school auctions. The first time, I was well enough to push my older daughter's wheelchair. Only problem: the elevator didn't work, and the registration desk blocked entrance to the ramp. Also, cooks were using the ramp space for the hibachi; every time we wanted to go up or down (and silent auction tables were both upstairs and downstairs, food was downstairs), we got sighs, frazzled volunteers who hadn't counted on any REAL disabled people turning up, and resentful gazes and stomping around from the cook. My daughter actually hefts a fairly thick wallet, and was amazed that she bought as much as she did, given the circumstances. The second time was another auction. My daughter declined my invitation (no surprise), but by now I was walking with a cane, and stairs were a real issue. I phoned the school holding the auction ahead, and was assured everything would work. And it did. Now my younger daughter is a high school student, and guess where the auction will be? I inquired (with the auction chair) ahead, and she said yes, the elevator is pretty much hit-and-miss, but they would be sure not to block the ramp. (For cane users, the ramp is so-so; the angle is still painful, plus you have to go out into the rain and come back in, so an elevator is much more helpful). I had a number of silent auction donations, but when I checked back a month later, the auction chair said community club (which, by the way, is in my own neighborhood, not that it seems to matter to the clubhouse management) was not too sure about the elevator. I am really reluctant to spend a single penny in this place again. If everyone in your family is able-bodied and nimble, and you don't have too large a crowd, you're fine. I didn't pay for the venue, so I don't know how it compares to other places in terms of value. If you are self-conscious (I'm not), be aware that even if the elevator DOES work, it is open at the waist level, so all the guests see your head rising slowly above a nearby wall. It's funky, but if disabled people are anticipated and accommodated, it is doable. If you foolishly buy a ticket to an event here and don't "warn" them that the ramp has to be a ramp and the elevator has to be an elevator, good luck. read more

We went to a vegan chili cook-off at the Mt Baker Community Club this evening. Lovely space. I'm guesstimating there were a couple hundred people in attendance and there was ample room for all, with round tables in the center and rectangular tables around the perimeter. The high ceilings and huge windows also make it seem bigger than it is, and give it a very airy feel (could be gloomy on an overcast day though). There's an area in the back that was used as a bar and could also function as a food service counter. I didn't get a good look but the website states there are two kitchens so that must have been one. The women's restroom was very clean. Decorated like a hotel or restaurant restroom, but really nice nonetheless. There is a bit more space upstairs, I think including a conference room. I could see this venue working for a concert, corporate function, reunion, or low - key wedding. I did not work with management so I cannot comment on that aspect of the Mt Baker Community Club. I haven't spent much time in Mt Baker and it's worth mentioning that this is an absolutely beautiful neighborhood! I felt like I was in an arboretum when we walked a few blocks from the car to the Club. I literally could not stop exclaiming over the adorable houses and pretty trees and flowers. Street parking only so good thing the walk/drive is a scenic one. The Route 14 bus goes by here and there is a park across the street. read more

It depends on what you're looking for. I live in the neighborhood and have been to a number of events here, including multiple school auctions. If you rent the whole facility, you get a small room (upstairs) which is about half the length of the large room (downstairs) and can look down and see what's going on down there. (If rented separately, it can also be closed off.) It is in lovely condition, with gorgeous hardwood floors. Handicapped access issues lose it one star in my book. There is a quaint sort-of elevator, which stops waist high, so one feels a little conspicuous suddenly rising into everyone's midst, but when it is functioning, it's acceptable. However, when it isn't working and it's used to toss boxes and other junk into, that's not okay. Sometimes events are set up in such a way that the exterior ramp (which permits the wheelchair user to go out in the rain in their finery in order to go up or down) is blocked by a registration table or what have you. This should not happen. Also, sometimes nobody associated with the event has an elevator key and it's been left in the off position. If you know ahead of time that you will be attending an event at this facility, your best bet is to phone both the club and the event organizers to let them know that you need to use the elevator and/or ramp. Should this be necessary? No. Is it? Yes. The other obstacle, for those who don't need handicap access and are sure none of their guests will, is booking it in the first place. We have a family member who would like to be married there, and has been leaving messages both on the phone and electronically for a month. The wedding date draws ever closer, and now one way or the other it will likely have to be postponed. My son took an afternoon off work to go during their extremely limited office hours, only to find nobody there. So much for the perks of living in Mount Baker. read more

We hosted a work retreat here for two days, and it was a very pleasant facility. You immediately get the feeling like you are in a small treehouse because of the wide windows and lush landscaping. What we really found was the best luxury was the location. A small playground and park nearby was perfect for a sunny day box lunch time or break. Around the corner there is a cute restaurant for coffee and lunches. Close to lightrail and buslines, as well as ample street parking. Great set up, nice facility manager. read more

i come here once a month for a dining event and it really is as beautiful as the previous reviewers say. the reason for only 4 stars is that it could use some energy efficiency upgrades. it's very cold in the winter due to leaky windows. i could easily imagine hosting an event here, as it is a great space. read more

I really wish I could hold of reviewing until after my wedding but as an Elite Yelper I think its important for Brides to know what to expect not just at your wedding, but when planning. My wedding is scheduled for Feb. 4th 2013 at the Clubhouse. Everything was going great. The venue is beautiful, the staff was friendly, and the location was perfect. Now that we are in crunch mode for the wedding I have had some changes come up and I have been trying to get a hold of someone at the venue to discuss my changes. For the last two weeks I have been emailing the clubhouse and leaving voice messages. I have even gone by during their business hours and no one is there. I am simply trying to confirm my wedding schedule and floor plans and I can't get a hold of anyone there. This is very frustrating to any bride to be. All I want is an email response or a phone call. Let me know that you have at least receive my message or something. I was starting to panic. I called again today, twice, and on the second call got Tara the manager. Appartently, the email address that we email rentals@mountbaker.org goes to someone else and not her, so in fairness she never received my emails. Not sure about the voice messages. So I spoke to the manager today and I am a little relieved that I did get a hold of someone. I have received 2 emails from the manager today to apologize for the delay in response and lack of communication. She seems eager to make sure we are happy and that this doesn't happen again. I appreciate her efforts. I will see how my wedding day goes and will update my review accordingly. read more
