Okay, I avoid the MVA like the plague and had no idea that one had to make appointments for most things. Despite this being in another county, they have the quickest appointment for the next day. I arrived, checked in a couple minutes before my appointment and was in my car five minutes after my scheduled appointment! I don't even waste time on reviews for fast food spots or government-operated shops like the MVA. But this is totally worth it. Why is it always so difficult to complete tasks at organizations such as the MVA? Why? One needs a damn drink after dealing with the inconsistencies, the inaccuracies, the crap, the lack of attention to detail, the different training levels, piss poor customer service -- throw it all away and start over. On my FOURTH (4th) visit to the MVA to handle titling issues, I was told I NOW needed additional documentation. On my THIRD visit, I was told I needed ONE additional document, which I brought to my FOURTH visit. So, MVA, Governor Wes Moore and all public servants of the friggin MVA, why is there an additional requirement when it was not identified on the initial or even third visit for that matter? I really don't like to call anyone incompetent, but the level of service, incompetence inadequacy and inefficiency is nothing short of PISS POOR. For the first time in my life I had the most delightful experience at MVA! My wife and I came in to obtain a handicap pass for her due to knee and back issues. Unfortunately we did not have an appointment. Janey at the customer service desk could not have been more pleasant and helpful. She explained the process and helped us immediately with finding an available clerk to assist us. As it turns out the clerk was on their lunch break but took the time from their break to get the pass. The entire situation took no more than 10 minutes. When I just tried to state a differing rule I read in the MVA website, she rolled her eyes and got up to get someone else to then also be mean and rude to me telling me no. If you have more complicated needs that doesnt even have to do with it being your fault - you literally need to get something sorted out etc etc this location's staff ARE NOT ONLY VERY RUDE, THEY DONT KNOW WHAT TO EVEN DO WITH YOUR NEED. My experience with them was UPSETTING, FRUSTRATING, and we ended up going to another location- where the employee was even like "I dont know about all that they told you" - this employee at another location helped do what was needed to get done in 20min! The worst part of my experience at Annapolis was the manager that helped the 1st employee I talked to told me to call the insurance company to make sure they sent over the document by email to their inbox. I had to get up and get another number to get back in line after I called to be served again. The 2nd employee that helped me was absolutely useless and first thing she said to me after I told her I was told to come back up after I got confirmation an email was sent to to you guys already. She said I was only allowed to helped 1 time and that I had to come BACK TOMORROROW to be SERVED AGAIN because it is only 1 time a day you are allowed to be served! I told her I WAS TOLD TO COME BACK UP HERE BY YOUR MANAGER EVEN- THIS LADY REFUSED TO LISTEN AND SAID I CANT BE HELPED AGAIN!!!!! Easily the best MVA in the area. I like this location because if you come here at 1:30 on a tuesday or wednesday the wait is actually manageable. I've been here several times, and don't think had to be here for more than 1h. 40m and that was because I was testing for my CDL and had a road test. There can be some rough patches in regards to customer service, but they at least look like they're making an effort to be more personable. There was a greeter when I came today, and I have NEVER seen that anywhere else before today. I came on this visit to fulfill my requirements for REAL ID, and even though i've received a new license at least twice in the past 3 years, and given them the necessary documents I was still getting letters in the mail. I was able to set up an appointment online, and received a list of the documents I needed to bring. Luckily I was in and out in about 25 minutes. I made it back home in time for a midday nap, before work. Nice! read more

The balding fat white man with black glasses at the check-in desk could not have been more rude! HR needs to address his demeanor with the people paying his salary. He clearly hates his job so much, that he likens a character in a comedic movie. As I was waiting on the "check-in" line and became first, I approached the counter awaiting my turn. A gentleman who was third in line, hopped around trying to get someone's attention at the desk. The state police officer with the great responsibility of defending everyone from when this disgruntled employee snaps, even spun his chair around away from the guy trying to "skip the line". When the big black glasses finally defogged and he noticed I was standing there, he yelled, "what are you trying to pull, lady?!" I replied, "Nothing. I was first in line and this guy was third. Dick." Now this line clearly states, "check-in". Am I supposed to know guy third in line is getting called back up? No! This asshat needs an unpaid holiday away from people. You would think he had enough "non-customer service" time after Covid shutting it all down, but no, he's waiting...for his retirement. I hope you get fired! I much prefer this MVA over the location in Glen Burnie by 1000%! Everyone here is friendly. They make the process simple and easy. Glen Burnie is closer for me, but I'd rather take the extra 25 minute drive to Annapolis. It's not as busy, customers are not as grumpy. Take the drive! read more

I came to the Annapolis MVD to change my driver's license from another state. My number was A444. I was obtained my number approximately 4:45pm. I'm number was called around 6:05pm. I had my federal tax and state forms and a stamped mailed letter. I was informed that I needed other documents with my mailing address. What good was my SSN Passport my out of state driver's license. I was told that I could go on line and print out a bill. I don't do the online bill pay. They were kind enough to ALLOW me to go to my car and get my insurance and registrantion card, and informed me that my number will be placed in the back of the que. It is 6:22pm and I just observed an employee tell a guy who was sitting "you have been here for a long time, what is your number and called him to the window and assisted him". Why is it so hard for people to do their jobs I have never had something like this happen to get pushed to the back of the line! The woman calls the supervisor and the supervisor informs the worker she can go to the car but her number will have to go back t the line. Its never a happy feeling to come to any MVA... they treat you as if your applying for SSI benefits.. after 2 failed attempts at Gaithersburg location to renew my license, a friend of mine told me to try Annapolis location. So I went the next day after receiving my offical bc from Florida. Apparently MVA doesnt accept birth registration cards. The ones that fit in your wallet. After being $46 poorer.. and showing all my deets I was given a number and waiting only 30 minutes in line, the gates of heaven finally opened. Surprisingly here the employees here are pleasant and treat you with professionalism. I got to keep my old license with my million dolla smile... and a paper temp license. 5 days later I got my license...and its good for 8 years. So any time I need to go to MVA, Annapolis is my go to. We had to visit this MVA today to get information about a complicated title legal issue (deceased owner, executor needed a duplicate title, location of vehicle itself is uncertain). I figured we would get someone who blew us off or could not answer the question, but I was pleasantly surprised. They have an appointment only system now, due to Covid. There were three checkpoints before you got to sit down with a representative. One woman was at the door checking appointment paperwork, and another one was checking appointments off her list while we stood in line. At the check in window, they give you a ticket with a call number like C11, once they see you have all your ducks in a row. The woman who eventually helped us when our number was called looked up all the information we needed about the various vehicles, made suggestions, answered questions, and provided a duplicate car title for the one that was missing. So kudos to this MVA location, because they exceeded my expectations based upon prior experiences in Gaithersburg/Rockville and Glen Burnie. read more

I visited MVA last week to help my relative who is in her 80's and also needed a translator. I was impressed with their Appointment system. It was very easy to make an appointment on line, plenty of time slots on the same day. Once there, the wait was about 20 minutes. The staff was very professional and helpful. I would especially single out the Assistant Manager Chris and Jane who assisted us. They were extremely helpful and saved us from having to make another trip. read more

After not receiving a return phone call from Cheryl Hammond, branch manager, I called and spoke with Bryant who informed that if its been this long so what. "What's another day?" Bryant responded. I don't want to get any one in trouble but some of the employees here are rockstars. Granted I waited forever but I had one piece of documentation wrong. My DMV associate gave me instructions to use the computer at the end of the building to get it correct. Then wait for me after the next customer. Even after all that allowance, I had done it wrong and she did it herself to make me compliant. Also to mention the greeter lady who fields your needs before you get to the help desk. Brought my daughter here for her road test, she's 18. The female instructor (thick black lady) was so rude, before and during my daughter's test. She was acting like a drill sergeant. I think everyone would rather avoid visiting the DMV. I really can't see something good comes out of that. But sometime you just need to visit, and then you usually expect it to be bad. Bad as most official government places can be with customer's service. But I have good news if you are about to visit the DMV, it wasn't bad at all. And in order for you to have a quick in and out make an appointment online. You will be in so quick you will not believe it is the DMV. The rest is up to your case, if you have all documents, and if you are meeting with the right person. I have been attempting to call the MVA to schedule an appointment multiple times throughout the week. Each time I call, I get stuck on a 30 minute to an hour long hold and then the call just hangs up. I went into the MVA to try and schedule an appointment as well and they told me to call and schedule one online. I have now just sat through yet ANOTHER hour long hold for the call to cancel and now it says the line is busy. This is completely absurd, I guess I will just not abide by the law and drive illegally..? read more

Location, Location, Location: So the same rules for real estate apply to essential government services as well. The Annapolis MVA is a top notch version of the MVA experience. A big private parking lot, big open attractive building, clean, good happy, well dressed employees. This location serves the "hoity poity" and you can tell. You can look at the makes/models of cars in the spacious parking lot. The patrons inside are just a sleek and well turned out. There was no one in pajama bottoms, no hair rollers under shower caps, no neck tattoos and baggy pants. I saw at least five trophy wives and several "originals" that were easily holding their own. The MVA is the great "leveler" experience; almost everyone has to come in there eventually. The workers are happy and polite. The examiner's are helpful, happy and polite (my daughter was taking her second attempt at driver's license road test). Show up here like the "natives", well dressed, clean and with all of your papers in order (like "they" do) and you will have a great MVA experience. We did! Review complete. Social Commentary Begins: One of the first times that I can remember my late father (born 1930) crying was when he came to visit me at Old Dominion University. I took him to our (at that time) brand new baseball facility. I worked for the athletic department so we were able to get "the tour", he saw the locker rooms, the press box, walked out onto the field etc. He had played segregated baseball in the Army in 1954. He had been a pretty good player, everyone told me that through the years. He had then gone to Virginia State College (an HBSC). So he was running his hands across the grass near first base and when he looked up into the stands, tears were rolling down his face. Although I was uncomfortable, to say the least, I asked him what was wrong. He said ( I am of course paraphrasing from memory) "we didn't have any nice fields to play on, separate but equal was a cruel joke". So having labored through that story, you might wonder why I bring it up in discussing the MVA. My daughter took her first test at the Essex MVA. It sits in the corner of a run down strip mall. The testing facility is cramped. The patrons there are mostly "marginally legal" immigrants, poor whites and semi-scary blacks. Accordingly the staff is stressed, angry, not terribly happy to be there and (not their fault) it comes across in their dress, tone and manner. As we were driving home I couldn't help but think back to that incident with my father. My daughter and I had just experienced a modern version of "separate but equal". My salary and mobility allowed us access to the life of the "other" in Annapolis. I am not saying that she failed at Essex a couple of months ago because of the staff or run down crpmped testing facility. [We practiced differently and more seriously after that attempt]. There was however a much different vibe and much different "opportunity" presented to her in Annapolis (State Capitol) than had been the case in Essex (backwater in decline). If the disparity in MVA locations is that marked, is there really any wonder why the schools have the variance in outcome that they do. read more

So here we go, I walk in optimistic that I would go to "customer service" and be greeted and my questions would be answered. To my dismay, I greeted the employee who obviously just finished sucking on two rotten hot lemons! Talking to me like I should know all protocols of the MVA. I was asking specifically what they needed in my situation! JUST BRING IT ALL, BRING IT ALL! If everyone just BROUGHT IT ALL, there would be no need for her job, no questions to be asked! AWESOME! Today, we transferred two DC driver's licenses, two DC car registrations, and two Voter Registrations in 3 hours. True, we did a practice run yesterday. But, having all of the documentation ready, those MVA folks coordinated our move like clock work! And, mostly, with smiles on their faces. DC DMV could learn from these folks, for sure. It is four MVA folks that I wish I had their names. The guy that coordinated the initial line, who told us about the advantages to having our DD-214 documented in our Maryland Driver's License, and the Maryland Veteran discounts; the guy at the processing Desk, who, yesterday, provided us with the forms and required documentation for our transfer, who saved us today from repeating that process; the lady, Danasha [sp?], #20 desk, who worked with us on our Driver's License transfer and "issue"; and the AWESOME lady who processed our Car License Registration and Titles. All, who We wish that We could Thank individually, but, will more than on the Yelp Review. The point is: Do Your Part! They will do their's! read more

I waited until almost the last possible minute to renew my drivers license so it was too late to do it by mail. I arrived about 9:30am on a Saturday morning, stood in line for about 5 minutes to find out my next steps and was referred to the eye exam cubicle which only had one person in line! I took my eye exam and was able to go home, renew on-line, and received my actual license in the mail the following Saturday! The only issue I had with this MVA location was that a Lady goes to each person in line to ask what's the reason for their visit and then proceeds to speak loud enough to where everyone in line can hear your personal info. This made me feel extremely uncomfortable and irritated because she also did not help anyone at all. All she did was greet and ask what the reason for the visit was to every single person. In a time of constant change, you can always count on MVA to be slow and complicated. Most states have really improved their motor vehicle processes, but Maryland lags far behind. Went in for a simple drivers license renewal, and it took over 4 hours. Not exaggerating. It's always been bad, but in the last 2 weeks they've reorganized and it's even worse. There is no one long line just to get a number. That took 30 minutes. Then it was nearly 3 hours to wait for the number to be called. Then a long process because of the Real ID Act. Gov. Hogan: you've shown great creativity to make Maryland government serve its citizens better, why have you not focused on MVA? read more

My go to MVA location! People are helpful and don't act like you're a pain in their butt when you have a question. I've been to the Largo, Beltsville and Gaithersburg locations and none of them touch this one. Even though it's smaller in size, I like how you can usually get in and get out quickly. I almost wanted to keep how efficient this place is a secret but it seems like the gig is up. The last two times I went the wait was a little longer than usual, although that could have been because it was a Friday afternoon. I will continue to come from Bowie to this location, keep up the good work! Perhaps one pet peeve I have is they seem to always have some kind of protestor or table set up outside borderline harassing people and signing up for the 'cause'. Out of all the MVA locations in the area (Largo, Beltsville, Glen Burnie), Annapolis stands out as the best! It is fast in and out! Love this location! The staff are friendly most of the time and the location is clean, bright and open! The parking lot is spacious and as I stated, you can get in and get out! I have only had to renew my license and registration here, so no real issues here! My go to MVA location, by far! read more

I was expecting the worst and got decent. This place is surprisingly fast; I made an appointment through their (glitchy) website and was called within 20 minutes of the appointment time. The longest wait is the line you have to get in to reach the desk where you let them know that you have an appointment. That line took about 10 minutes. As for the way you're treated, it depends on the person and on their mood as well. I saw the person at the desk treat someone brusquely and another person patiently. The people who go over your paperwork can start off nice with you and then turn edgy. read more

By far the BEST MVA experience in the history of FOREVER!! I needed to apply for/order my new license after finally getting around to changing my name after marriage. I arrived at 1540 and got in line to receive a number, not 6 minuets later my number was called! The MVA clerk/associate that assisted me was extremely pleasant, professional and just all around enjoyable to interact with. I spent a total of 14 minuets inside this MVA location, from start to finish. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would!! read more

This location used to be fantastic. I'd say it went from 5 stars to the current 1 star. The very helpful information booth as you walk in is now gone. Instead of being greeted and guided in to the proper direction for your needs, everyone now stands there at the doorway overwhelmed. No guidance whatsoever.
