Wow, very impressed! All the good stuff on Yelp is true! When I called to ask about getting a tune-up for the used bike I just bought, they told me it would be about 2 weeks before I could get an appointment. Sounded like a long time to wait, but I just had my appointment today, and it was great! When I picked up the bike, Paul spent 30-45 minutes with me, going over stuff he noticed about the bike. Nothing major, but definitely a few things I hadn't seen. He gave me all kinds of tips on cleaning and maintenance and answered all my questions. Very, very friendly guy! read more

Moto Mike was rude, condescending, and unhelpful. I have cash and can buy today, however he decided to behave unprofessionally and cost a sale. Regardless of what machine I want, I will not be buying it from here. I asked if the compression had been checked and requested the readings if so. He proceeded to be condescending and rude. When asked if he was the store owner he didn't answer but instead continued being rude. Oh well. His behavior cost you guys a cash sale for that DR650. This would have been my 16th motorcycle, I'm very familiar with purchasing and sales, this was a very unusual experience. read more

Stop looking for other places to take your bike... Joe and Paul at Moto Java are great!!! I have two bikes, and I've been riding for 4 years. Not only are their prices very reasonable, but they deliver great quality work. I've been to several other mechanics, and if the work isn't done right, you are putting your life at risk. Here is what keeps me coming back: customer service, customer service, customer service!! Both owners (Joe and Paul) know everything there is about motorcycles, AND they take the time to explain it to me. They are warm friendly people, who will always take the time to answer a question, even if they are not going to profit from it, and are happy to suggest ways to save me money, because they're all about the customer first, and profit second. They have recommended other mechanics, because I have to drive quite a distance to bring my bike in, but honestly, I wouldn't let anyone else come near my babies. great spot. Paul is really personable - unlike some shops that tend to be ... what i'll call, tight lipped and stand-off-ish. Whether over phone or talking in the shop, this guy is helpful and welcoming, explains everything, and his wrench rates are totally reasonable. my only slight grudge ( if it can be called that ) is i've had to order a part myself and drop it off with bike. its not a huge thing...it does give the customer a chance to pay less for the parts. but it there is also is something nice about the shop taking care of it. regardless... they do good work, and i'll take my bike there again when need arises. i haven't bought a bike here, so i can't comment on that. but i can say that the next time i am looking to buy, i will definitely look here. read more

I don't ride and I don't have any intention of taking it up. So then why am I writing a review you ask? Well, my boyfriend got it into his head that a motocycle would solve his parking/sharing a car with me issues so he looked on Craigslist and found a bike he wanted-it was at Motojava. So we checked it out and ended up spending the better part of an hour chatting with Joe about the bikes in the shop and what would suit my boyfriend's needs the best. He practically talked him out of rushing to buy anything. So for the next few weeks we'd drop by, check out the inventory and chat. He finally commited and bought a bike a week-and-a-half ago. I told him that I was glad he bought the bike there because these guys are either the nicest, most down-to-earth, most artifice-free guys running a business anywhere in the city or putting on one hell of an academy award winning act. They know their shit. They refurbish and road-test the bikes themselves before selling and they are a resource after the purchase as well. We went in a week later because the headlamp went out and not only did Joe show him basically what to do to access the bulb he gave him one without charging him. Hello, My experience at MotoJAVA was incredible, when I browsed for motorcycles on there Website http://www.motojava.com/ I found the bike that I always wanted. I quickly emailed Paul on some question and the out the door price, Paul emailed me with in the hour and was honest and forward about the total pricing and info on the bike. When I arrived at the MOTOJAVA shop, I was welcomed by Paul. Paul was currently working on a motorcycle but quickly took off his gloves and cleaned up to show me the bike. Paul took it outside and fired it up. Paul spend about 45 minutes going over the bike and maintenance. What I loved was that Paul did not assume I was a brand new drive but also did not assume I knew it all. I am very happy of my purchase. I highly recommend this motorcycle dealership. paul and joe are so knowledgeable, kind, and easy to approach. they take time to explain to you clearly, patiently, and thoroughly what they will do for your bike, and in telling you about their used bikes. i don't feel as though they are trying to take advantage of my minimal motorcycling knowledge, i trust that they will do only the work that is necessary or that i requested, and charge me near (if not less than!) what they estimated, and to do the job extremely well. once or twice, i was a little disappointed that the service/repair took a week or two longer than anticipated due to some part not being available from elsewhere, etc. but overall i am satisfied with the service. i regularly recommend this shop for not only service, but also for purchasing used bikes. read more

The one and only bike shop in SF I have walked into and felt wholly welcome. This is the only place that I felt had a vested interest in giving what you need and saving you money while being completely frank about the bike/helmet/accessory you are purchasing. A good buddy of mine who bought a V-Star here has similar praise. His bike runs tip top. I took a friend in to get a helmet after going to six or seven other shops in town (Munroe, Scuderia, Cycle Gear, Golden Gate, Thunder road...). They price fairly and explicitly try to save you money without disregard to safety. I picked up a wheel lock and a cover here. Well worth it. I would come here first for any bike or accessory purchase before anyone else. This place is what it is all about. read more

Searching reviews and finding MotoJava on Yelp I later came to realize I've passed by this place thousands of times of the last few years. I first stopped for some coffee, got a latte and it was delicious. The staff was very friendly and chatted me up while I waited. Then, I went next door to the motorcycle shop to buy some gloves and boots. Paul told me in no uncertain terms that boots were a waste of money and that any comfortable hiking boots will do. He then had me try on all their gloves and suggested I try Cycle Gear around the corner for comparison. Cycle Gear was exactly as he described it - after 20 minutes no one offered any help as I sat bewildered in front of the vast array of gloves. I drove back to MotoJava and they were happy to see me. They were so kind, so friendly and really, took about 30 minutes to just answer every novice question I could possibly have. I joined Yelp just so I can write this positive review. A friend of mine highly recommended MotoJava for the experience he had with Paul, one of the owners, when he was looking for a bike a while back. My expectations about meeting Paul were pretty high and he exceeded them. You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer, more honest, more knowledgeable motorcycle enthusiast then Paul. He is a walking, talking motorcycle encyclopedia! Cruisers and sports bikes, older and new--this guy really knows his stuff!! Paul talked with me for over an hour about several bikes they were selling and was never pushy or impatient. He gave me a rough estimate on what he'd give me for my bike then recommended (and this is why I give MotoJava 5 stars) that I'd be better off selling it privately because I'd get a lot more out of it then selling it to him due to some minor repairs it needs. He gave me tips on some quick, easy things I can do to get my bike ready to sell and even offered to hook me up with his leather repair specialist to fix my seat that is slightly torn. These guys really care about what they do and they will never sell you anything that's garbage or rip you off. I only hope my next bike comes from MotoJava so I can tell everyone who asks me about it where I bought it and why they should go there too! read more

Though I have my M1 license, it's been about 5 years since I rode anything. Moto Mike took the time to give me a refresher. I used to pass by the shop all the time on the way to Caltrain and even stopped by one time to see the bikes. When I finally saved up enough money to even consider getting a bike, I stopped by just to see what they had. I had done a little research on used bikes and even checked Craigslist a bunch of times(okay, non-stop). When I walked through the doors to the shop, I found a small showroom about the size of my room with 9 bikes, all in very good condition. Paul and Joe both said hello and asked me if I needed any help and that they would be happy to answer any questions. I figured I would just look around but then I started asking questions about used bikes. They answered every single one politely and they knew what they were talking about. It seems that they've worked on every bike ever made and know almost EVERYTHING about each one. I started talking about Suzuki Bandits, Honda CBs, Yamaha FZRs, Ducati Monsters, Triumph Thruxtons. The list goes on... They gave me a couple suggestions on what to look for on used bikes(Always check for rust on the forks) and told me to bring it by once I got it. They thought I was getting a bandit. I came back the next day... with a 1975 Honda CB550. I needed some gloves and remember seeing some for a very nice price. Joe came out and checked out my bike, Looked over it and taught me a couple things that have helped in maintaining my bike as well as a being a good rider. I ended up getting a pair of awesome gloves for the low price of $46. Joe laid them all out for me and I found out that larges fit way better on my hands. All in all, this place rocks and the mechanics are the best. They know their stuff so listen to what they have to say. I will come back to get a tune-up when I have the money. by the way, their tune-up is awesome. They go over a lot of stuff and at the end, they give you a list of what they fixed, what should be fixed immediately, and what should need fixing in the next 6 months. It'll go, otherwise. The main thing here is that these two dudes have an uncommon service ethic backed by real enthusiasm. I thought these folks were fantastic. Extremely knowledgable and friendly with your best interest in mind. They sell refurbished models and I went here to buy my first motorcycle, needless to say a big decision like that is enough to make one hesitant. I was greeted by a very nice and knowledgable team member. They took the time to probe and ask me all the things I was looking for in a bike and if I had a model in mind. After selecting one out they went through all the proper ways to take care of the motorcycle, as well as owners and service tips for the future. They do really good work on the motorcycles too, my 2007 Honda Shadow looked brand new when I was picking it out. Had $17,000 miles on it but looked like it had never left the lot. MotoJava is an excellent motorcycle repair and maintenance business and I give it my highest recommendation. Paul and Joe are meticulous and skilled mechanics who care about their customers and will service your bike like it's one of their own. My bike received an amazingly thorough tune-up -- as in, they even went so far as to brush the forks to prevent excessive wear on the fork seals, and to scrub and lube the chain to sparkling shiny newness. That's the kind of attention to detail I really appreciate. I also appreciate that they took their time going over everything they did with me, along with things they didn't need to do, and things to keep an eye on. The price was reasonable ($225 + parts + tax for a 2006 SV650) as was the turn around time (one business day). I'll definitely be back the next time I need service! read more

Ah, I love this place! I bought my first bike there. The guys there will give you a good deal and are extremely helpful. If you need some quick service for your new bike, they will generally drop what they do to tweak your bike. Especially if you are a beginning rider. This place is the best. Yep that's right the best. They are honest and helpful. Inventory constantly changes, they sell about 4-5 bikes a week, and so are constantly tuning the next batch. Prices are very fair, but the piece de la resistance is the service, buying a used bike is a bit risky from an individual, from here, you know its been completely worked over and is road ready. My partner bought his motorcycle here in June 2020, a Honda CBX500. We were helped by Mike met with great customer service and recommendations. Knowing I could trust the dealers here and hoping I could receive their opinions on a first bike, I had been viewing their motorcycle list for a few weeks until they had something I was interested in. I am 5'6 and 140 lbs. I was interested in a Yamaha FZ6 and a small Honda that was 250CC. The 250 immediately felt too small so I tried the FZ6. It was the best fit in my price range, but honestly felt too large. I got some great advice from Joe this time on trying on a bike too large for my first go. I appreciated all the helpful tips and time he offered to me as a new rider. Mike also did the same with my partner when he bought his bike. I came out with a Honda CBR500R, even though it was higher than my price range, and am extremely happy with it. I was so glad he directed me to this bike and I really came out of it feeling I made the best decision and avoided the difficulties the FZ6 would have caused. Thank so much! read more

There are not may places that I go where my '75 Honda CB550, four into 3 (for those in the know) turns heads. However pulling up at MotoJava for an espresso, I realized that I had found a friend. "Ya the rust colored one, that's mine." Some one actually took interest in my old motorcycle. The owner is nice guy who has put thousands of miles on his motorcycle. Well, then this is the place for you be that a tune up, tire change or used bike shopping. Tune up: quick and clean. They take care of your gear and give you a "menu" of the fixed and makes sure they go over it all and what might cause problems later when you are on the road. Yes, and we all know all problems occur when you are in the middle of nowhere when these pesky little issues pop their weary little heads. Used sales: They buy used or trade in and fix them up for a bit of a profit. These are not "Street Fighters" they only accept and rightly so, bikes which need a little love or a tune up to resell. Check out their site for regular updates. Chill out: they have attached a coffee and after hours beer house where bikers gather for an early morning ride or just to chill out and talk shop. SOMA's hidden treasure! This is my favorite place to chill, read the news, check email and talk to other locals. My roommate and I were hooked when Maria and Chris started carrying rice milk instead of soy for us. My whole house loves making the morning run for coffee and being greeted by Milo and Zoe, the sweetiet doggies! Maria bakes delicious homemade scones, cookies and muffins that are to die for. She's also a mean cook! AND to top it off, Maria is an herbalist and makes amazing tea blends. She's great at giving tea recommendations for illnesss, too! I bought my first (and to date, only) bike from MotoJava in August 2007. A used 2000 Ducati Monster 900Sie (in charcoal metallic) - fully serviced and looking like a beaut. Was in the market for several months, and had the opportunity to buy from Hattar, Munroe, and even Craigslist, but I held out until I saw my baby on motojava.com. Paul and Joe are legends in my book - they're courteous, knowledgeable, they *listen* and they don't push a hard sell like other Bay Area bike dealers. They want what's right for the rider, and they'll go the extra mile to ensure he or she is satisfied. Now I'm just waiting on them to get a Triumph Bonneville so I can make my second purchase already... Recommended to anyone in California (not just SF) who's in the market for a used bike. UPDATE 8/28/2008: Just sold my baby Duc back to Paul and Joe. It was such a painful process (seriously), but they were still as professional and considerate as when I bought it. Looking forward to getting my next bike again from them very soon. ***BUYER BEWARE!!!! *** read some of the other reviews people have written others have had problems with the dmv paperwork on the bikes they sell. I wish I would have read the yelp reviews before I brought it from there. I bought Honda rebel 250 from them not to long ago on Nov 21 2018 and was helped by Mike, everything goes good and I ride out with the bike after paying. 3 months later I'm expecting to get the new registration and tags and title all in my name but all I get is paperwork from the dmv saying the registration is actually suspensed because of an odometer mistake. After a few calls and leaving voicemails (which I never get a reply from) I go into the shop and talk to Mike in person and ask him what's going on and he tells me they made a mistake and entered the wrong mileage on the registration paperwork and they'll try and fix it, ok cool. Another month passes and still nothing so I go back and ask him for the title and other paperwork so I can register it myself but he only gives me a bill of sale and receipt and says he doesnt have anything to do with it anymore cause he has a guy that deals with all the dmv registration stuff and it's out his hands and he doesn't have the title anymore cause they gave it to the dmv and the dmv lost it and he's sorry nothing he can do. at this point I'm getting frustrated because the tags he gave me are set to expire on August 2019 and the only paperwork on the bike I have is a suspended registration and bill of sale. So I call dmv investigations and they tell me when dealers send paperwork to the dmv they're supposed to get a duplicate copy of the title so obviously they have the copy somewhere or their guy has the actual title. Dmv investigations got involved and they're investigating and had to restart all the paperwork from scratch. but to this day ( Oct 7 2019) I can't get a new title and tags or full registration in my name to be the legal owner because the dmv needs the title from motojava but they say they don't have it anymore and when I went back to ask for it a 2nd time a month later I got the brushoff and ignored shortly after by the owner. At this point all I got is an expensive garage ornament that is basically unusesable cause it's got expired tags and bad paperwork and dmv can't do anything about it until they get the title or a duplicate from moto Java which they claim not to have even though they sold it to me. It's odd cause I would think a "reputable" buisness would keep copies of the paperwork of the bikes they sell. Dmv investigations is still involved and working on my issues with them so hopefully this can get resolved soon. Really thought if I bought from a dealership it was gonna be easy and safer than buying off some stranger but in hindsight would of been better off buying it from somewhere else. If your still set on buying a bike from them though read everything VERY carefully before you sign anything, record the transaction on video if you can and more importantly read that the title is in the name of the SELLER (motojava), match the VIN on the bike to the title and get the title and paperwork IN HAND and take it to the dmv to register it yourself and if they refuse that should be a big warning sign something isn't right so beware! save your self the fee, headache and runaround later on from motoJava. Gave 3 stars though cause the bike was in great mechanical condition and runs fine just a broken tab on the top of the crash guard. read more

I've never bought a bike here, although they definitely carry some nice bikes in good shape at fair prices. I have, however, eaten at the cafe, and I can say that their food is terrific and the prices low. Sandwiches on ciabatta bread, chock full of fancy ingredients that most other places charge an arm and a leg for (pine nuts, avocado, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, etc.) The service is great, too. My lunch buddy and I just got sandwiches and it felt like we were at a friend's house and the friend was a really generous and hospitable hostess. EDIT: Wow, I'm a sandwich! I love the guys at MotoJava and would absolutely recommend them for any servicing needs, especially if you're in a pinch. I've gone for minor body work and a tuneup, and the bike works great. But the real value is in the time they spend and the interest they show in their customers. Paul will talk bikes as long as you have time. So there's lots to learn from the guy, and he cares enough to share. Chain-smoking Joe tells you the straight story without a hint of self-interest. Without prompting, he has consistently suggested ways to save money -- ordering parts from a third-party rather than through MotoJava, for example. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that out, but it's awfully refreshing to hear and reassures me that I've taken my bike to the right place. These guys love their customers, and they're passionate about bikes. They'll take care of your ride like it's their own. read more
