The folks here are terrific! I had my 2004 Valkyrie Rune serviced here... Tires, brakes, fluids, tune ... the thing rides like new now. I was worried they would not know how to work on it, cause so many other shops were scared to touch it, due to its uniqueness. But they did not blink twice. Not just that, but their pricing was the best around, more then fair, and they were looking out for me, by doing an overall health and safety inspection and hit a few loose ends without charge. They also have great deals on used bikes that look new, and a bunch of riding apparel I'll be returning all the time for all my service needs here without question. These guys use a very deceptive marketing technique on Craigslist. They flood their ads with every conceivable brand and model. So when you try to set up a CL alert for a specific bike (the whole idea behind setting up an alert) every bike they list gets sent to your email. It's really irritating to get flooded with 2 or 3 emails a day from these guys, thinking the bike you're looking for may have come on the market. I've asked them to stop and just market legitimately, but it's fallen on deaf ears. My experience tells me if they market deceptively, they likely do other things deceptively. About five years ago, I bought a '14 Monster 796 from MotoMike@motojava.com at their old location. After purchasing the bike, all the essential services, new tires, etc., were done in their shop. Unfortunately, that Monster was totaled by an unlicensed driver during the commute. Blah, blah, blah. Fast forward to fall 2022; I bought a '14 Monster 1200s. Shortly after purchase, I went to MotoMike and crew for an annual service and tire change (Pilot Road 6) because I trusted them. It was pretty useful as when I first filled the tank, i couldn't quite close it, but kept trying to do it the way he showed me and it finally worked. I brought my Kawasaki Ninja here for a coolant fluid flush service and the MotoJava mechanic completed the service while I waited and read at a cafe nearby. They charged a very reasonable hourly rate, helped me check my brakes, did a quick lookover of my bike, and made some future service recommendations. I can tell from the invoice that they billed exactly the time and parts they needed to complete the service. They operate honestly and care about their customers. As a result, the bill came out to less than the official Kawasaki dealership that I used to take this bike to, because the dealership service center "rounded up" on hours and fluids used, but MotoJava only charged what parts they actually used/time they actually needed. MotoJava was patient and answered all my questions. They also have an interesting selection of used bikes and motorcycle accessories. Recommend to call in advance to make an appointment. 5 stars - I will return for future major and minor services because of how well they treated me. Tip: the MotoJava entrance is on VanNess and not Howard St like Google Maps thinks it is. The store is between Big O Tires and Dainese, and is across the street from Tap Plastics. read more

Staff is nice and bikes are moderately priced. They helped my fiancé get through the purchase process fairly easy and my overall experience was good. Nothing negative to say about this place. There was a mention by someone about no test driving before purchase and this is correct and it's an issue because of liability and the cost of insurance for them would be $25,000+ per year, so they've opted not to allow that. I was offered to get on the bike my fiancé was buying (and I wasn't in a skirt) but I elected not to, and while I was asked once more, I did not feel it was in any way inappropriate or pushy. They clearly knew I wasn't the one buying the bike and I wasn't really a motorcycle fan (sorry but SF is very dangerous for riders and I've lost many friends to accidents on bikes over the years and the price for the bike was equal to that of a down-payment on a car; so no, I'm not a fan of them, nor was I about this purchase, but I wasn't the customer - my fiancé was and they treated us both great). They were just trying to kind of get me more comfortable with the process and the bike. No harm, no foul in my opinion. Of course others may have a different experience and I in no way condone actions that make people feel violated or uncomfortable. YMMV with this company, my experience was positive. A great dealer of used motorcycles and a good one at that too! I came here today is hopes of buying a good used motorcycle and I wasn't disappointed! I came in and talked to a fellow rider named Joe who was also manning the store front. They say first impression are ALWAYS lasting and Joe did just that, impressed me! He greeted me as I was coming into the door and was interested on the look of my face of my admiration to their good used motorcycles for there about 30 motorcycles in the shop. I pointed to him what I wanted and we talked for a little bit about the motorcycle that I was going to get and i decided to get the motorcycle that I wanted. The total price was $4,900. including registration tax and everything else. My problem started when my bank wouldn't release my money because it's way past my limit of $3,000. So I told Joe that I'm going to Chase which is literally 1 block way to get it in cash instead of paying in Debit card. I came in my bank and got out with $6,500 cash in my pocket. I got back in Moto Java so Joe finalized the transaction. Joe was all full detail asked for my license and everything else in between. It was done all together within half an hour and right there and then i called my Insurance, gave them the VIN number of my motorcycle that I bought the they e-mailed me a temporary insurance copy so I can take my motorcycle home. A couple of things that I forgotten to mention is that this used motorcycle dealer has been selling good used quality motorcycle for the longest time and their Meticulous way of going through everything BEFORE they sell it to you is well renowned as indicated through customer reviews here on Yelp. There's something good to be said about a dealer who does this and makes sure that the machine they sell you is in good and running order because after all, it's a 2 wheeled machine which is even more dangerous than driving a car! This is great motorcycle shop and I'm recommending them to people looking for a good used motorcycle that's not not going charge you for an arm and a leg because it's a new machine. Motojava, and Mike in particular, are the absolute best! I'm a driving enthusiast, but I came into Motojava not knowing a lot about bikes. Mike was super knowledgeable, and really took the time to figure out what bike would suite my needs and skill level. He helped me pick out a Honda CB500F that was perfect for me, and had a lot of great tips on how to feel comfortable on the bike. Mike's awesomeness didn't stop after I had purchased my bike. After a little while, it became apparent that the bike needed a new chain. Mike drove all the way from San Francisco to the far East Bay. He picked up my bike, and loaned me another CB500F to ride in the meantime. A couple days later he drove back out to the East Bay; he dropped off my bike with a brand new chain and picked up the loaner. My bike is running perfectly now, and he did all of this free of charge. On the corner of 9th st and Bryant, you'll find a cool lil spot called MotoJava. (The coffee joint is right next door of the motorcycle store.) My roomie bought his Ninja here and from what I see on Yelp, they also do motorcycle maintenance stuffs. I stopped in a long while back to check it out and see what kinda used bikes they had. Unfortunately at the time, they didn't have many cruisers but from looking at their website right now, http://motojava.com/Home_Page.html, I can tell that I should stop in again. They have some pretty cool bikes right now. Only draw back I remember is that they are really limited with their gear selection. It's worth mentioning that, even though it was quickly realized that they didn't have anything for me at the moment, the guys there were SUPER friendly and chatted with me about bikes and stuff for quite a while, giving recommendations and such. Went looking for my 1st bike and came across Moto Mike's shop, he spent about an hour casually chatting with me, dispelling newbie information and generally keeping it real. I appreciated his no bullshit attitude and felt like he was a really honest guy. I was eyeing a Honda 500 but didn't pull the trigger for whatever reason. Next day I'm seriously regretting not buying it when I had the chance and give him a ring. He met me at the shop on his day off to do the paperwork and even fixed a clamp on the custom exhaust that had been missed by the previous owner. Felt like I got a terrific value on a great motorcycle, without the question marks around maintenance that might come with a Craigslist purchase. 1 month into owning the bike now and I love it. When do you see a place that has such a stellar reputation like a place like this. I brought my beloved Z1000 to sell because quite frankly I was mean to her. I'd bought her from Motojava and they'd taken care of it over the years but I didn't do her the justice she deserved so I knew what it was worth. The initially didn't want to even buy it from me since they felt the amount was so low but I assured them I knew and it was actually a generous offer. So I watched their website and a week later it shows back up looking beautiful. Then a few days later it sold to another lucky rider. Here's the kicker. So I sold my bike cuz my situation was in the air but I might be getting a new bike (I did a Street Triple R 2013!!!) but I was all over the place from smaller cruisers, bmw's, Monsters and a couple other random bikes. They gave me really great tips on some maintenance things that applied to me personally that really helped me out. Not much more I could say about this place. Joe and Paul have helped me from the first days when I was a week away from my MSF class to helping me when my bike had been backed into by a car. Good people flat out. And the food is better than it has a right to be. Maria is not your normal biochemist turned barrista/chef, she actually has the passion which makes it all work. The baked-from-scratch breakfast treats and desserts are truly treats indeed, and the sandwiches & salads make you wonder what so many others are doing wrong. Free WiFi and a warm, unpretentious atmosphere may make you stay a bit too long as I do, but no worries, just buy another coffee or better yet, get your beer, wine or sangria on as they now offer that too. Bought a KTM here on March 28th. Everything was great, smooth process, rode it back home over the bridge. About the second time riding it on the highway a couple weeks later the bike was having minor issues. I couldn't keep the bike from rolling forward or get it into neutral. Looked it up and folks say to look at the slave cylinder, there's air in the clutch system. Sure enough, a couple drips in the garage. They've been chasing this problem, had already changed the lever and bled the system. Now, I'm an auto mechanic, I could have easily fixed this, but they offer a 500 mile 1 month warranty. So I called them up, explained everything and they said drop it by we'll take care of it. Great! Smooth sailing. I work full time, only mechanic in the shop, while also trying to get my own business running, so I don't have much free time to wrench for fun. So I told them I wasn't in a rush, you know a week or two to get a 30 min job done etc. Took almost a month, running around trying to save a buck and it didn't work out for them. I was getting a little paranoid, being a mechanic, a small job like this shouldn't take this long. So I try to call and they won't answer. We had agreed that I'd pick up the bike two Saturdays in a row and they wouldn't answer the damn phone! I called dozens of times in a rage, from different numbers and to nearby businesses. I don't have much free time and my schedule is packed. All I needed was someone to freaking answer the damn phone before I was left stranded there taking an expensive Uber over the bridge! Here I am thinking they wrecked my bike, are trying to cover it up and I haven't got my title yet! Finally after a few emails Mike promises I can pick up the bike the following Saturday and they had to go with a new oem part instead of a rebuild. Okay fine, great, got an Uber over the bridge. Now when I get there, Mike explains more in detail what he had to go through (to save a buck). Drove up and down to Santa Rosa or something for a $3 O ring and gasket, that wasn't even the problem. But had he had done a few minutes research, he would have found that the sleeve cracks in the slave cylinder on these KTM's. Then he tells me it'll be $160 or something like that. This guy is off his rocker. I ask him why did you guys tell me to bring my bike, have it towed here, just to charge me for a repair under warranty that you offer all over your listing and website, when I told you guys I'm a mechanic and could easily fix it, diagnosed the problem you guys were chasing before I bought the bike etc. He says he thought it would've been a cheap repair, a few bucks and oh it isn't a warranty it's a guarantee. Lol, now I don't want to go to prison over $160, but wow, proud of myself of how well I held it together. I told him no one ever gave me a call or email of an estimate or anything about me having to pay a cent. He gets upset and tells me to just take the bike. This guy is delusional, he thinks I'm the bad guy? I ask him, so please help me understand, it says warranty over the listing, but now you want money and say no it's a guarantee, please explain the difference to me. Lol he was struggling, I said OK thanks for everything sorry for what you had to go through etc. and I wouldn't leave you a bad review. Now, I emailed him Mon, as I don't even bother with trying to call, PTSD from that episode. Hey, it's been over 3 months, my temporary plates are about to expire this month. I haven't received my title, plates, registration, tags etc. Don't hear back, sent a warning Wed, now I'm sharing my experience Fri. Under DMV rule, a used dealer is supposed to report all sales to DMV within 5 days, turning in a Report of Sale. I asked them in the email for proof you guys actually turned in my information. I'm sure they did not just to stick it to me. I have cameras on the property and a locking commercial mail box, either USPS lost several DMV documents or these guys never turned in the paperwork. So now I don't know what to do, go get a lawyer, talk to my credit card company, burn time and money at DMV, maybe they have all my information and want to watch me squirm? I don't know. I feel they should go out of business, ducking customers, shouldn't take weeks to get an email back. By the way, I NEVER got a call back even though I left a few voicemails. They're supposed to operate under their posted business ours but who knows. Buyer beware, learn from my experience. At this point, I want a full refund and they can have the bike back. Was looking forward to getting a new bike all winter after selling my last bike before the season was over. Other dealers told me they were feeding me soup, I was supposed to receive everything within 2 weeks with the new quicktags system DMV has, all electronic. So I've been paranoid, leave the bike sitting in the garage, not knowing what surprises they have stored. Really just ruined motorcycles for me. Don't buy off Craigslist. Buy from these guys. Just bought my second motorcycle here last week, this one for my girlfriend. The new owners since mid 2016, Lucy and MotoMike (he prefers to go by that) BREATHE motorcycles. And they sell second hand ones that Lucy has been over with ridiculous love and detail at extremely reasonable prices. Frankly, considering the great price, quality, attentive service (MotoMike flat-out won't sell you a bike if he doesn't think it's for you), and considering you avoid a trip to the DMV (because they do the registration for you), they'd be the primary place I'd go to for a second hand motorcycle anywhere in San Francisco. There are a couple of other great dealers around, but nothing else in the city. Honestly, don't argue with them on price. The prices are perfect, and reasonable. They even take a loss occasionally just to make sure something is priced honestly, and they throw in discounts if you are a regular customer (some people are). They're also regular members of the motorcycle community - Lucy is a well-known mechanic and teaches classes at MotoGuild (and possibly elsewhere). MotoMike trains riders and has done that for a while too. Basically, they know their stuff - not just salespeople. Go there! read more
