I've tinted several cars with Mother's now and had a good experience everytime. On my last car, the back window tint started orange peeling and was blurry but they replaced it for me (thankfully the marathon film has a lifetime guarantee). Make sure you hold onto your receipts as that make the replacement so much easier. They don't do appointments, which is a little inconvenient. I've had luck going in the afternoon of a work day or first thing in the morning on a weekday. A small thing that really stood out to me: when I last went in, there was a young woman (maybe late high school/early college age) and her father. She was there to get tint. The thing that made me so happy to see is that the guy who worked there spoke directly to her and not to her father. It feels silly to have to say it because it's such a small thing but that small thing speaks volumes. I had called a couple of days ago to the North Austin location to inquire about getting my truck windows tinted and glad I came here. I was told they took walk-ins and first come first serve. I showed up about 8:45 am and the manager flagged me down right away and let me in. I had my little dog and he said it was ok to have her in there with me. The young man told me he let me in sooner because he didn't want any of the transient people bothering me while I was waiting for them to open. So, I called these guys before I come in and they quote me 850+15% off. They take my name down and I tell them I'll be there some time shortly. I get there and I give the guy at the counter my name, and he just kind of blows through it and continues on to his pitch like it's irrelevant. I'm like, ok, whatever, maybe the guy that took my name down left for lunch or something. We go outside and are looking at my car, and as I'm asking this guy questions, his attitude is really quick and matter of fact... still, what ever, it's a business. When we start talking about prices, I refer back to the quote I was given over the phone. His exact response: "Well that's a phone quote.."..... what? What does that even mean? If you're going to give a quote, give a quote. He then says that he'll give me 10% off. So I tell him that basically the quote they gave me over the phone is pointless? He then goes and checks with some guy in the back, which sounds like it may have been the guy that quoted me initially, and he tells him that he said he quoted me 10 OR 15%.... first of all...you're mistaken if you think I'm going to let some clown I don't even know call me a liar when they know full well they are lying. Second, I gave them ALL the details for my vehicle and for what I was looking for in order to get my quote...who quotes 10 OR 15%? At that point I said, nah, thanks anyway. Mother's does great tinting, but they also install great sound and Apple Car Play systems. Two years ago I updated my wife's Miata with a Sony Car Play system from Mother's. It ran great for two years... until it didn't. I called Jason at the 290 store and he said for me to bring it in and he'd look at it and give me an estimate on how much it would cost to fix it. Jason took it to the shop behind the store and came back in a few minutes with my keys. He says, "It's fixed. You're good to go." I had a great experience with this company both by phone and in person. Ralph and John are both wonderful people who just happen to be great at business as well. I came in to get my front windows and windshield tinted. I spoke to Ralph first over the phone and he gave me all available options, not just the most expensive ones, which is really refreshing to hear nowadays. When I showed up, I informed them that I only had limited time and they were honest with on whether or not it would work out, so I came in. They had an hour to finish the tinting and they did it in 35 min! Needless to say, I was thoroughly impressed not only by that but also because of the warm conversations we had while I was waiting for my truck to finish. I was so sad to read that the reviewers for this specific location had issues with Mother's. I took my old Toyota Yaris in (before a girl totalled it) to get tint. The downside to Texas weather is the hot hot Texas heat, and with no tint in a black car with black interior = hot inside too!...and a left arm that was starting to get darker than the right one lol So the location might not be in the safest spot or best looking area but the businesses are small and hardly anyone is in the area first thing in the morning. So anywho, I got a deal for a 10yr 3M tint, for $159, and after the tint had set around the third day I inspected my windows for bubbles or any flaws, NONE! Plus the service at Mother's was great. The guy helping me was very funny, blunt and you could say he could "kick it" with the younger crowd. Hopefully more people will try and give Mother's a chance. read more

Once he was off the phone, he had to get guy who was waiting for his window tint to be finished out the door. I explain what I was looking for. He starts showing me what kind of stereos he has. I was not real impressed with the selection they had. The phone rings again and he disappears. I am on my lunch break and do not have all day to wait around for this guy to give me a quote. While briefly talking to him, he threw out a number which I thought was low ball. The level of attention was not there at that shop. I ended up going someplace else. Moody weird personality at the front desk that acts like he doesn't want your business. I got there at 10a and was the only customer. I had called about a week before going and described the 2 windows needing tint and was given a price. I showed up and was quoted a higher price. I told him I had called and he adjusted it but acted like he was through with me because I didn't want more windows tinted. After hearing ads from Mother's over the phone, I decided to give them a try. First impressions over the phone: After checking our their website, I was directed to a phone number to call or text in order to get a "special discount." Admittedly, I wasn't really planning on much of a response given that I had texted the number provided around 11 pm. To my shock, I received a response within the hour. Whoever was on the end of the line even provided me with explanations of what may have been going on with my car's stereo/amp. After a brief period of texting back and forth I was provided with a number to call their local North Austin office and a general idea of what to ask about. The following day I called Mother's and Ralph answered. Like the other reviews mentioned, he does have a lackadaisical intonation with his speech but in all honesty I believe the guy means well. He went into detail about what may be malfunctioning in my car and suggested that I bring it in for his technician, Josh (who is awesome by the way), to take a look. FYI, I live about an hour north of Austin and our Car audio store selection is extremely limited but I was willing to make the drive. Impressions of the store: As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by Ralph and another employee with hand shakes and introductions. Prior to my arrival two other customers arrived so there was a pretty substantial wait (1-2 hours). Since it was my day off I had the time and patience to wait around. The store itself is kind of barren but it serves its purpose. Atmosphere is casual and there is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything while you're looking around. After waiting, Josh and Ralph brought me into the shop area and showed me what the found out with the car. They spared no minor detail and were extremely transparent with pricing and labor needs. Josh even showed me how to replace the part myself if I didn't want to drive back down to Austin. *************************** I DID NOT make a purchase at the end of the day (due to unavailability of the required part) but Ralph made it a point to render the entire inspection service free of charge due to me having to drive a long distance and having to wait. Even though I didn't make a purchase I was still treated with the utmost respect and attention. Granted, some people may be put off by the casual attitudes of the employees but I'm not bothered by it at all. When I arrived I met with Steven and he did an amazing job at explaining what they offer, quality and expectations. Dropping off the car was a breeze. If there is one complaint that I would have it's that the vehicle took longer to complete than estimated. Looking at the car it's easy to see that they had their work cut out for them. They were happy to provide photos and giving updates. I don't not have any problems with the delay since they were very communicative and provided updates. When I picked up the car I was speechless. I've used these guys for both tint and car audio several times over the years and they've always treated me well. The car audio gear is a bit pricey for those of us who generally buy electronics online but I feel that the premium is worth paying if you need a same day install done. And frankly small shops need to make a profit somehow so I don't mind supporting local business. I've had good luck with installers there. Cables are run cleanly and no corners are cut. The store manager is super helpful and does his best to manage his time between the phone (which rings constantly) and the customers in the store. I like the first come first served model for installs personally. Your best bet is to show up early on your day off to be at the top of the list and you'll get done pretty quickly. read more

Over the past 20 years I have gone to Mother's Window Tint for a couple of vehicles. They have always done a great job so when I decided to get the windows tinted on my new vehicle it was a no brainer. I called and got a quote from Steve. He was very knowledgable and informative. He also had a very pleasant and welcoming demeanor. He said that they could get my truck in and out right away. While waiting for the job to get done I inquired about the alarm system with the remote start. Again, Steve was very helpful and informative. He even showed me how the system worked on his vehicle. He had to ask the guy that does the installs about the remote start on my particular vehicle and if they were able to install it successfully due to my truck being so new and the type of ignition it has (2018 Toyota Tacoma with push button start). They said that it would be doable. I had to take some time to think it over as I had not budgeted for such an expense at that time. Flash forward, I called back about getting the alarm and remote starter installed. I spoke with Steve again and he said just to bring it by when I could. After work I called to make sure they would have time to do the install before I drove over there. It worked out perfectly. I went straight over and Josh got to working on it. As it was approaching closing time, Josh encountered a problem with the programming. Toyota had made some changes between the 2017 and 2018 models. He did a lot of troubleshooting but it just wasn't working (the remote start). The alarm was fine. Josh needed to speak with someone to get the updated programming info but it was after 6:00pm at this point and no one was available. I spoke with Steve and Jason (whom I believe is the manager). They would have continued to work on it but I was tired and didn't want to keep them there any later. Jason assured me that they would get the info and I could come by the next day for Josh to finish that part up. Went by the next day, got right in, and Josh got it all working. He then took time to show me all of the features, how to operate the system, and answered all of my questions. Overall, I had a great experience with these two services. The staff was friendly and informative. When they encountered an issue, they assured me that they would get it working for me and they did. I had the most amazing customer service experience at Mother's just now. I have an old Chevy Blazer with a simple alarm (that was bought and installed far away years ago at a different shop in a different state)....that I had accidentally screwed up and changed it's settings.The doors would still lock by the remote but the alarm would not set. I asked if they could help me out, and within literally a minute their installer, Jason, had given me a friendly greeting, and was walking to my car with me while I told him the problem. I showed him the owner's manual on my IPad, and within a couple minutes he had not only reset it for me, but showed me how to fix it myself if I ever screwed it up again. All I wanted to do was ask a few question about services, My intention was not to buy - but to evaluate. I spoke with Jason and Steve the second I walked in. Not only were they receptive to my "inquisitive" nature, but they made me believe I was in total control of what I wanted to do with my vehicle; not what they wanted me to spend. Furthermore, they're all about straight talk; not that jive I got from some other "custom" audio/tint establishment who shall remain nameless per this review. The prices were reasonable and what I expected to pay at drive out. But what got me was the service and how quickly I got out of there after deciding to get the tint, radio, and speakers. I mean...they were QUICK! I'm not talking about that assembly line tacky quick. I mean PROFESSIONAL quick. Those guys know what they're doing. I wish I could remember my installers' names. I hate the fact I don't. But they don't play. Even went out of their way to fix stuff that I didn't request but needed to be fixed. Who does that? But I also want to let you know I watched these guys as other patrons came in. It was no different. The customer service for all the clients coming in was remarkable. Not only remarkable, but personalized. They didn't greet or treat everybody the same. I don't want to sound corny, but they make you feel like family in there. Nobody had a bad attitude; customers or providers. In closing, I didn't mean to spend any money today. But at the end of the day, I sure ain't sorry I did.
