Sports bar in a very old building in River North. I was there for football on a Sunday afternoon, so I can't comment about the night party scene. The staff was pleasant. They put the game I wanted on a TV I could see easily. The food was bar food, but solid. Tip for hot wing lovers. They are full wings, and big. It's a lot of food. The only issue was that they serve all their drinks in plastic cups. Really odd and cheap. They have a few craft beers, which is great, then they plop a plastic cup full of beer in front of you. Refused entry by door security for no stated reason, then cursed at when I asked why. Two guys at the door turned me away while I was wearing a Lollapalooza shirt. They pointed at it while talking to each other. The larger dude told me he was "done for the night," which wasn't true, since he kept letting people in behind me. When I asked why I was being singled out, the smaller dude told me to "f*** off" and claimed I was drunk. I wasn't. They also turned away the guy behind me in line, apparently assuming he was with me. He wasn't. If the policy is locals only, say that. I'd have walked away without an issue. The rudeness was the part that wasn't necessary. I'm now at another bar down the street that's also open until 4am. Their security laughed when I told them what happened. Check the other reviews before you go, because this place is notorious for its terrible security. Plenty of better options in River North. read more

I used to really enjoy this bar and it was my go-to cheers bar. However, I recently went on a Saturday and witnessed the security guard discriminating against certain groups under the guise of it being 'industry night'. He allowed certain groups (including tourists in), however, other groups he said needed to work in the area in order to be allowed inside. The policy was not consistently enforced and seemed to have nefarious intent. I would not recommend this place. read more

I was really looking forward to checking out Mother Hubbard, but unfortunately our experience ended before it even began. The interaction with the bouncer completely turned us off. After handing over our IDs, the situation felt unnecessarily uncomfortable and unprofessional. Instead of a welcoming or even neutral interaction, the tone and approach made us feel uneasy enough that we decided to leave altogether. It's disappointing because first impressions matter, and for us, this set the tone in the worst way. We didn't even get the chance to experience the bar itself. I will preface this post by saying I was born n raised in Chicago, however, 20 years serving in the Army ultimately took me away. I now live in VA. Anytime I get home I try some place new. I've tried to get into Mother Hubbard's on 3 occasions for their wings n the place was packed. Today I finally got in! The wings were jumbo, hot, n crispy! We got the plain with buffalo sauce on the side n Cajun garlic butter. My Cesar salad was fresh. The fries were shoe string n hot! My Long Island's were strong, just how I like them. They would have gotten 5 stars, except for the fact that after we finished eating, a ROACH crawled across the table!!!!!! Yikes! So, the ambience needs a lot of work. I took a sip and I immediately audibly said oh this tastes like water probably the worst old-fashioned I'd ever had- and they were not busy and we barely saw our waitress. then I get the bill it's $27.94. As my best friend's favorite sports bar in River North, Mother Hubbard lived up to that during St. Paddy's. They were prepared with green beer and Jell-O shots to start off the day. The staff is super attentive and kept cleaning so that nothing accumulated and got disgusting. They even made sure that the bagpipers made their way in to perform a couple of songs... and still there were sports still on. Came in here midnight on a Sunday. Desperate for food after bar hopping all the nearby places on the street that no longer served food. It was actually a random man on the street who said go inside and get the tater tots. We were greeted instantly and order taken immediately. Food came in about 5 mins which was amazing. After that the waiter disappeared, maybe thinking the job was done? The chicken blt was really good and the tater tots were too cheesy and spicy for me but my table tore through them. Went there early last Friday evening. Hotel desk/concierge did not recommend but one in our party of 5 wanted to go. Got there and our 50-60 year old group was clearly a senior minority of their customers that night. Couldn't find a table that was cleaned up. All littered with empty glasses and crap. We self cleared the end of a long table and waited for service. None. Dispatched one in the party to engage a bartender. He had trouble even getting to talk to one. Finally did and he said he would send someone over. It never happened. Won't go back. In fact the next day I hosted 11 people for late lunch and someone suggested MH and I nixed it right away. We were celebrating a team victory and spent a bunch on food and booze. Now that I think about it, on Friday when we walked out someone made the comment that no one in the place was eating. So be forewarned. Skip this place. I was hoping to like the dive bar vibe and close proximity to our hotel but was severely disappointed. Stay away. read more

Women be warned... I went here twice+ a week in August alone. had two sexual assaults that their truest form that I had stopped personally. When warning security, they to quote said "we don't care. Call the police." This is a disgusting truth about bars like this that should be shut down. I'd say the solid 3/5 that this place has makes sense. The place seems a little dirty and just needs some TLC. I'm pretty sure the table we were sat at was dirty and they had to wipe it down for us. The prices, while in Chicago, are more than reasonable. The picture is about 1/2 an order of cheese curds with 2 dipping sauces and for 9 dollars. That's insane! There was stellar service and recommendations. The drinks were as expected and filling. The bathrooms at a sports pub leave little to be desired, as always.
