Where to begin....some many dishes, so little time in life. This place has as many tables as could possible fit in the space so don't expect an intimate conversation with your date. Ah, but despite being loud, and having slow service, the food is why you go. Had the stirfry Chinese greens (15 C) - simple, mellow, and very fresh. Good for balance with some spicier or fried dishes. The smoked gluten was sold out so had the teriyaki saute sticks. Very good snd they came with peanut sauce. Pineapple fried rice with ham was smokey and good! 4E crispy gluten stir-fry was my favorite - gluten and perfectly cooked vegetables. Go early if its a weekend, it gets busy. Highly recommended this place if you are a vegetarian or like a meat free meal.

Tofu and seaweed casserole

This is a centrally located restaurant in the business-y part of Sydney, which offers what I like: vegetarian interpretations of legit Chinese dishes. It is expensive and offers very little in terms of ambiance. The service is very Chinese, which is to say it is efficient but you won't get a big welcome unless you speak Mandarin. All of this is not a big problem for me; I came for the food. The tofu casserole with crispy seaweed was delicious and satisfying. Frankly, it was more than I wanted for lunch, and I rather wish they had cheap and smaller lunch specials (as far as I could tell, they did not), but I wasn't sad I finished it. Not all of their items were tofu; they had some tempeh and gluten-y type things that I'd be happy to try. Thus, while it is not a perfect place, I was happy to have eaten here and wish that more cities had such restaurants in such central locales.

I had the Szechuan spicy eggplant, with rice, and I enjoyed the dish! It wasn't super greasy, so I feel that the restaurant is relatively healthy. The dish also wasn't spicy, but I suppose everyone has a different spiciness tolerance. One problem I had was that I asked for brown rice, but then the waiter told me it was still being cooked. It wasn't too big of a deal; I just got the white rice instead. (I prefer brown rice though.) I do think $2.50 per bowl of rice is quite a lot. Another group of people asked for it a bit later, and I overheard the waiter explaining to them that the restaurant cooks new rice every Monday. I was there on a Monday, maybe 10-20 minutes after the restaurant opened. I would want to come back and try some of the other dishes here, just not during lunch on a Monday.

I had been wanting to try Mother Chu's for a while and expectations must have risen so it didn't quite meet the mark, but as a whole it was enjoyable. The eggplant nuggets are a must!! Seriously they were really good. The others were okay, but not particularly memorable. Felt a little overpriced and I don't quite remember the payment process but I did have to withdraw money so perhaps take some cash with you just in case. Service was okay, pretty much what you would expect from a typical Chinese restaurant. But I do love how they are all veg (mostly vegan?) and those nuggets!!

A haven for vegetarians. The food is typical Chinese fare but a bit overpriced. Expect to pay $18 + rice for a main.

So many appetizing dishes! My only complaint is that my short trip to Sydney didn't allow me to go back and try more!

I seriously get excited about working in…read moreour Sydney office purely because it's directly across from the MLC Centre so I can stuff myself silly with Iku food throughout the work day. Iku Wholefood is a chain of 12 stores scattered throughout Sydney offering healthy but delicious vegan food. It's popular across the board, not just with the vegan crowd, which is a testament to how delicious it is. Iku has a wide variety of food options crammed into a tiny food-court space. Their display counter includes a dizzying array of sweet treats like cookies, pastries, and muffins, as well as savoury snacks like nori rolls, polenta and couscous slices, rice balls, millet balls, etc. And that's just their display counter. Their full menu itself includes pies, salad plates with a variety of mix-and-match options, lasagne, casseroles, curries, and soups. By far my favorite thing on the menu is the macroburger. It's described as "a tofu fritter served on a steamed wholemeal bun spread with tahini sauce, topped with leafy green salad and Iku salad dressing." I don't normally like tofu but this is crazy delicious and unrecognisable as anything tofu-y. I seriously fantasise about biting into a delicious Iku macroburger while I'm on the flight over to Sydney because I'm filled with giddy expectation and I know it'll be the first thing I eat when I land. You can also get the mildly healthier macrobiotic wrap, which contains the same ingredients as the macroburger, just in wrap form and with slightly more greens. Note that both of these are a bit messy to eat, so probably not best to take into a lunch meeting with important executives. That and you'll rudely inhale it because it's so delicious. I also enjoy the Iku pies (filled with beans, chickpeas, lentils, veggies, etc.), sweet treats (I've had their muffins and a couple of cookies -- delicious), and nori rolls (the sauce is amazing). Everything tastes so fresh and innovative. The only thing that didn't wow me was the lasagne. I felt it was a bit bland. I haven't tried any of the casseroles, curries, or soups yet. They also do breakfast, which I haven't tried either. This Iku is located in the MLC Centre, which is the funny round UFO-shaped building on the south side of Martin Place -- you can't miss it. Just walk into the food court and Iku is near the entrance on your right. Because this is a food court in the middle of the CBD, seating is scarce between 12pm and 2pm. If you want to find a seat, go early for lunch (around 11am -- the benefit there is you can ogle all the gorgeous young tradies eating their lunches -- oh sorry off-topic), or go after 2pm. Or just get take-out and bring it back to your desk. There are 11 other locations around the CBD and nearly all of them get amazing reviews, so definitely check this chain out :) I wish they had them in Melbourne!!

The line was out the door, but moved fairly quickly. While waiting in line, we witnessed freshly hand stretched roti from their open kitchen. When we were seated, we paid with cash to get a 5% discount off our bill and placed our order at the front counter. If paying by card, ordering is done on your phone by scanning the QR code. The restaurant gives off Singapore Hawker vibes, but the Mixed Satay and the Mee Goreng are skippable. Pass on these items: 1. Mixed Satay - The beef satay was not fully cut and was difficult to bite off the skewer. The chicken satay was easier to eat, but lacked the satay element. The peanut dipping sauce was delicious and chunky. 2. Mee Goreng - hard pass - The noodles were somewhat cold despite taking the longest to bring to our table. The entire dish didn't seem fresh and lacked flavor. Definite must: 1. Roti Tisu - 11/5 - This was unique, flaky, crispy, sweet, and fun to eat. I highly recommend getting it with ice cream and eaten for dessert. In between the layers of roti is sprinkled sugar. Ending our dinner with Roti Tisu makes up for the Mee Goreng. 2. Roti Canai - 5/5 - Fluffy and crispy roti dipped in curry and beans. Ultimate comfort food.

I waited in line for 90 minutes tonight to get chips and a burger. Not just any kind of burger...a…read morevegetarian burger. I thought to myself, this better be damn good...AND IT WAS!!! I am the furthest from a vegetarian that you could get (I had ribs for lunch today,) so I was pretty skeptical about how a veggie burger would taste...my skepticism was unfounded because I have to admit it was a pretty good burger. I ordered an original Big Burger meal with no mustard and soy bacon. I thought blasphemy, bacon cannot be soy...but I was the blasphemous one for doubting the Lord (of the Fries.) For the fries I had the original fries (chunky + sweet potato available,) ordered Belgian mayo and Vietnamese mayo (spicy chili) on the side. The Belgian mayo was alright, but the Vietnamese mayo was bomb.com. The fries are double cooked and definitely some of the better fries I've had in Sydney...my favourite fries have been from Ogalo's, but Lord of the Fries gives it a run for its money...I will need to do some more taste testing with their other sauces. If you've been to America, I'd say that Lord of the Fries reminds me of a vegetarian Five Guys since the fries are very similar in taste and quality (minus Cajun fries) and they both offer burgers and hot dogs. The nostalgia may have influenced my review a bit...so take that into consideration. If you don't want to wait in a queue for a super long time, go in the arvo or after their official launch on Aug. 29th. Praise the Lord (of the Fries!!!) ***Update: I went again to try their hot dogs and ordered the Chicago dog. If you're a fan of hot dogs and a carnivore I would skip the hot dog and get the burger, it tastes bland and it's a bit "off," most likely missing the meat taste. If you're a vegetarian and really want a hot dog then order to your hearts content.
