My family has been coming up here for over 15+ years and we've seen it go through many changes and ownership just to give you validation for my review. Whether you stay here for a week or even just a weekend, Portage Point will give you a true "up north" feel. Smack dab between an inland lake (portage lake) and Lake Michigan this place has beautiful scenic views and both lakes are within walking distance of the Inn. There is a little something for everyone here. The town of Onekama, which you drive through to get to the Inn, is your classic small town with pretty much one bar, a little park area on the lake, and few dining options. Portage Point Inn also has a new bar and restaurant as well as of 2018 I believe. I've been up here for in the Summer and the Winter, each giving you a unique experience. In the Summer this place is in full swing, with many people coming from even outside of Michigan to get the experience. Summer around the Inn is full of beach goers, (smaller beach areas but still nice), boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding (which all of these available for rent as well). The Inn has a lunch spot and an awesome ice cream vendor. If you are a golfer, there are a few courses within 30 minutes none better than Arcadia Bluffs. In the Winter, the place is much more secluded and quiet which is nice if you just want to unplug for a little while. Crystal Mountain is about 40 mins from the Inn for any Ski/Snowboarders. All and all, it's a beautiful Inn and the town of Onekama is one of the best kept secrets in Northern Michigan but more and more folks are hearing about it. The changes it has come through are for the better and it now has an amazing pool and hot tub area for folks which overlooks Portage Lake. No advance warning .. the dock cleats are in need of replacement as are some power breakers. The seasonal boaters seemed to be less than happy about the arrival of transients to enjoy the resort. The grounds are beautiful and the setting idyllic. The lodge reminds you of the movie Dirty Dancing , but at times it also resembles a horror movie . The pool is small but nice , and there is a dog friendly beach on the lake side with a Lake Michigan beach a short walk away. The resort needs to maintain the dog run areas and stock the dog waste dispensers as they were all empty throughout the resort. A notice that the bar would be closed on a Saturday for a private event would have been nice . Also larger boats are put on the outside wall and there is not a no wake area around them . Locals come by within feet to view boats and not at a no wake speed, doesn't make more a comfortable mooring. They need a no wake zone around marina and restrooms for Marina guests hat are not a half a mile walk.... Though I was able to close my move ring on my watch just walking the dogs to their area and me to the restroom. They do have great pizza and cocktail menu looks great but private event and closure Sunday to Wednesday made us unable to sample the tantalizing drinks .

For the slopes, they had so many lines for all different level of skiing. They had multiple sides to the mountain and even had a bar at the top that offered alcohol, snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and even chili and hot dogs. I am at a beginner level and the green lines were still a tad more difficult, but everyone going down looks out for everyone. I was very impressed with the ski patrol as a fell quite a few times and they were there to check on me. The area itself was very clean and again, everything is easily walkable. I noticed an outdoor playground for the kiddos when it's warmer out to play on. The food options here are good. Almost everywhere was a bit crowded, but we were able to wait for our food and then take it back to the Airbnb. I was very impressed with this place on every level. I will be coming back and staying longer next time.

A beautiful spacious apartment, with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It easily slept the six of us and we did not feel the least bit over crowded. As there was a group of us the price really was pretty reasonable for the weekend. While family friendly, it could be a bit pricey. The kitchen comes with everything you need from dinner ware to dish soap. There is a large grill on the private porch besides the stove top and oven. Two fireplaces (one is gas and the other you have to light for which they provide all needed materials). There are two flat screen TVs in the main rooms, another in the master bedroom and a small one in the bunk room. The shower in the master bath is huge and there is also a separate large tub. The best part is the large porch that overlooks the beach and Lake Michigan. It wraps around the side around to the back. the view of the lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes is beautiful. The resort also has a gym, outdoor pool and hot tub. Blu, a restaurant I highly recommend, is attached. There is also free wifi (they provide a password). The staff was also amazing, expect to be treated like an honored guest. They take care if anything you might need, even marsh mellows. The only slightly negative thing is that Lebear is a bit off on its own in Glen Arbor. The wineries are about a half hour away which was reasonable. Glen Arbor is small but charming. There are several shops, a couple bars (try Art's Tavern) and a grocery store. The resort is a very short walk from the town.

My only complaint is a minor one, and it's just that the bedroom situation is a little funky. In all three of the units I saw, the master bedroom was perfect, but the two smaller guest rooms left much to be desired. One of the bedrooms has a nice queen bed and bunk beds and the other has a double or queen-sized trundle bed. I would think to put the trundle bed in the room with the bunk beds (making it more of a "kids" room) and leave the nice queen-sized bed in its own room. Also, the hallway lighting outside of the two smaller guest rooms was extremely bright at night and made it very difficult to sleep.

On October 20th we paid $57 for the night. The room was immaculately clean and very spacious. It had 2 very comfortable queen size beds and a full size bathroom. The room included cable tv and coffee in the morning. Just a perfect hidden treasure within a treasure...the Village of Bear Lake! I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
