My thought processes was where can I go within driving distance with Bentley(my fur-baby), hike and take in beautiful sunsets on the beach.... After a short search Michigan and Highway 31 Cabins checked ALL the boxes! The airbnb hosts Charlie and Andra were great! They responded within minutes to my messages, gave detailed/easy to understand directions to their location and instructions on how to enter the cabin along with where to park(all very much appreciated!)... the area is super cute, half circle of cabins, complete with a fire pit. Once inside everything looked up just as pictured on their Airbnb site; no surprises. My favorite part was the information binder with "insider/local" tips, love exploring the hidden gems to local areas. Lots of amazing sites to see within a reasonable distance. Pictured below are a few of the places I explored during my stay. I'm not telling you where I went... you'll need to book Highway 31 Cabins for the inside scoop. They put a lot of effort in on mapping out locations(all in the information binder); I'm not just going to give it away... ;) The entire process from booking, checking in and out was seamless; overall a great experience!

I happened to stay right after the summer rush ended, so I was one of only a few guests staying at the motel. Check-in was fairly simple, and I was shocked at how they still do most of their business without computers. Computers or not, they were friendly and very efficient. The location is absolutely perfect, as its right at lighthouse park at the mouth of the Manistee river at Lake Michigan - beaches galore at your fingertips...toe-tips My room was small, and had a queen bed. All was clean and absent of any sort of bad odors and stains. Everything was outdated, but in a delicious, kitschy way. The view out of my room was amazing, and there were plenty of chairs and tables available for enjoying the view from your front porch. They provided free Wi-Fi, and firewood for a bonfire we had one of our nights there. We were provided with minimal toiletries, so definitely bring your own. You'll also find barbecues and pretty much anything you need to enjoy a vacation on the beach. I highly recommend this place if you're on a budget, or if you're low-maintenance and value a beautiful view over luxurious accommodations.

That kind of behavior is completely unacceptable in a hospitality business and made an already frustrating experience even worse. Another major issue is the lack of staff in the hotel after around 6 PM. If something goes wrong or you have a problem during the evening, you're essentially left on your own with no one available to help. A hotel should provide a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for its guests. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. Based on our stay, we would not recommend Manistee Inn and will not be returning.

The "new" owners were very welcoming and accommodating, making sure that all of our needs were met. We thoroughly enjoyed the private beach with beach lounge chairs, a couple of fire pits and a smaller sand beach area. The mini frig, coffee maker and coffee pods were greatly appreciated. The was plenty of bath towels and toiletries. The bed was very comfortable. The next time we are in the area and are in need of accommodations, we will be staying at the Portable Lake Motel.

Comes with a refrigerator and microwave, though if you want someplace to sit and eat what you cooked in the microwave, you may find yourself inconvenienced. There's no table in the room, something that would be handy too on the trips where I bring my laptop to keep up with work while I'm away--fortunately this wasn't one of those. Of course, a table squeezed into the room might not be so convenient, since there really isn't room for one. I had a single, though, and perhaps the larger rooms have them. The microwave itself wasn't much of an asset since it took over 20 minutes--seriously--to heat up the stew I'd brought from home for my supper. The shower is also very clean, though it has a hand-held sprayer instead of a nozzle, and the position of sprayer's holder makes it difficult to set the spray at a comfortable angle if you'd rather just stand under it. Fortunately it's high enough on the wall that I didn't have to stoop to stand under it. Like I said, a good place to sleep and wash up.

It's on the northwest corner of the junction of M 37 and West 76th street. We were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room and liked the fisherman decor. It's suited our needs for three nights. Grocery Store and gas station right across the street. All the staff was very nice. They have a hot tub, grill, and fire pit with plenty of wood. If you're ever headed to or through Baldwin this is a good affordable place to stay!

Stayed here for one night during a Northwest Michigan nature getaway. Jan and Jim are both super hip kind folks that gladly take care of your every need or want. Jan was very accommodating with my vegan lifestyle and made me a delicious breakfast. The rooms are all decorated different, with lots of original and traditional Victorian decor. Lots of opportunity to learn about the history of the home, the prior owners, and the town. Plenty of literature. The sunroom is fantastic! For a fifteen dollar donation I got to enjoy two hours of Jim's hospitality, meeting the cats and the talkative parrot Josefina - Jose for short. The collections are really impressive, the architecture is both stunning and cozy. We are traveling with a pet and they made us feel welcome to have our furry family member. The location is great, an easy walk to the beach and downtown. We opted for the river view, walked out the room and there was the river. Made for a beautiful place to watch the sunset. Quiet property and well maintained. There are rooms being worked on but quiet during our stay. I will stay here again next time I am in town. Will also recommend this to friends and family.
