The best part of this motel is Maria, a housekeeper, and Rafael, on maintenance. I've had an extended stay following a death in the family, and comfort from these two individuals has meant a lot. Kyle, who helps Rafael, is also a sweetheart; Sheila, from Haiti, is super professional and even-tempered; Calm and smart Raoul helped me set up my computer and monitor and has been great at answering tech questions; and Glori the manager often makes me laugh. The downsides are occasional police activity (everything from domestic violence to who-knows-what; there was a robbery at the front desk a couple years ago) and occasional noise. (It's impossible for staff to corral all the rebel rousers. I appreciate the sign in the lobby designating 9 pm ton6 am as Quiet Time!) Today, for example, I came back knackered from a day of appointments related to my upcoming teaching job, only to hear several people running, yelling, screaming into cell phones and blaring loud music. I know I'm extra sensitive about noise; this may not bother some. Maintenance is great. TVs superior. Free coffee in the morning. The walls are paper thin and I could hear the woman next door talking. The man upstairs dragged his metal chair and dropped it ALL night long. There was yelling and swearing in the hallway after 10 pm. The toilet seemed to be overflowing every time I flushed. The doors are beat down and look like they were broken into many times. Smell of cigarette smoke. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. There are lots of people who live there so .......... I stayed at this location with a number of friends and acquaintances during a special event in the area. But if you asked me if I would stay at this Motel 6 again in the future, I would say, "Nope nope all of the nope." Even based on the little that anyone should expect from a Motel 6, this location failed to really deliver and respect its guests. For starters: the smell. Oh, my lord, the smell. While the rooms were clearly renovated recently the hallways were not, and they STINK of cigarette smoke. It's absolutely horrid, and it says a lot that management didn't think removing the hall carpets (which are clearly housing the worst of the smell) was worth their time or money. Secondly, I heard from friends staying in other rooms that they experienced major problems with their billing. In fact, one person said that the room price they were promised for a special event mysteriously increased as soon as people began arriving. If I heard correctly, one person with this problem had even made a reservation that couldn't be found in the system. Fortunately this problem didn't affect my traveling party directly, but from what I heard, it was a big issue for others in our event group overall. And just to cap the time off, during my last night here I looked out in the hallway and there were cops knocking on a door across the hall. Granted, I doubt I would be mentioning this if the rest of the motel experience had gone well, but on top of every other issue it seemed particularly shady to me this time around... Put simply, I was absolutely not impressed, even by the low standards I hold cheap hotels and motels too. This is a perfect example of "you get what you pay for", and I definitely plan on avoiding this motel the next time I visit CT. read more

So I sent my complaints to corporate office. The first time, they never responded. I submitted a second complaint and someone got back to me. What I was asking was if they could somehow give us some money back for the horrible stay and conditions. I got a second call following up about my issue and then was provided with a reference number. After that, I never heard from them again. So in all, this experience will prevent me from ever going to Motel 6, in any location. The lack of accountability is always an issue in places. If you are dirty, and provide poor services, hold yourself accountable and work on correcting it, but not here. I would not recommend this location to anyone and I urge Yelp to check these reviews to make sure they are not fake or made up. read more

I'm here on business for 2 nights. It seems clean and ok but the walls are thin and there is a screaming male and female next door who sound as though there may be a DV situation in the near future. As I said, I am here in the New Haven area on business and that business is a specific type of training dealing with violent offenders. This was a nice cheap place to stay for one night. We stayed here because we had a wedding in new haven. We were getting ready and the fire alarm went off and kept going off for maybe about 5-10 minutes. It was around 4pm, so it didn't bother me too much. No irons in the room, but if you need one just ask the front desk and they'll get it for you. The two ladies that checked us in were very nice and they joked sweetly. After the wedding we got back around midnight. I was so thirsty so I went to the vending machines, which didn't work- I told the gentleman at the front desk they were broken, he told me they weren't and offered to help me. Two out of two items were "sold out" (I don't drink soda so water & iced tea were what I tried to buy). He escorted me to another vending machine in the stairwell and that one said it couldn't authorize my card. So the vending machines didn't work for me which is one of the reasons I gave 4 stars. Another reason is that (like another person said) the hall carpets stunk like musty cigarettes. The room smelled a little like chlorine when we got there, which I didn't mind too much since I figured they cleaned it right before we got there. We were on the first floor and our window backed right up to the parking lot. You could also hear everything that happened in the hallway (which is why we didn't leave our room during the fire alarm). Overall, it seemed clean for the most part and the staff was courteous. It was a nice touch when we checked out that the gentleman said "I hope you enjoyed your stay with us." We've stayed at many hotels in the past few months, and no one had this nice etiquette. Re: Branford, CT location The worse motel experience of my life! It was hell living there for long term. To make a long story short: broken window locks, extremely low water pressure, toilets & bathtub contantly clogging, rude and unprofessional room service/front desk/manager, mold/mildew, and bed bugs. Ended up in ER, referred to health district and inspected, and now they are in serious trouble. My advice: stay away! You are better off sleeping in your car than paying over $400 for a week and going through this hell especially with bed bug bites from head to toes. read more

I had left a review the first time I had come to the Motel 6, but I have to write another one. The staff here is very understanding, caring, etc. There is a woman manager who is always calm and always looking out for my needs. I love this place so much I made a commitment to a weekly room. I never felt so safe, cared for, and appreciated as I do when i check in here. I know I am not always the best person to get along with/communicate with, but they "get me" here. Not just the manager, all of the staff. Every single need has been met for me here. I truly do get super excited when I come here, because there is no hassle. No bad attitudes, just caring. It feels like a home away from home. If I could stay forever, I honestly would. My privacy is respected. I don't know if you can ask for much more. The coffee is great. I was an employee here for two months and can say with conviction: do not stay here, it is dirty. The manager is a snake and only cares about the turnover.... I've seen rooms rented out that were never cleaned. Just the bed made. The cleaning people are only allowed certain hours per day, so when they go home no rooms were cleaned. so if a guest left and a room was empty and someone came in with 60 dollars do you think it got cleaned? We were not allowed to leave the desk. the manager wanted all the rooms filled. When I worked there, there were constant fleas from the pets. There was so much complaining I could not take being a clerk there anymore and quit. I didn't get paid and had to bring it to corporate. Also, yes it's a motel 6 and yes it is inexpensive, but spend an extra 30 and stay at the holiday inn. Motel 6 and the days inn are the worst places to stay. Maybe it is okay to crash there for a few hours. But give yourself some peace of mind. With rates so low, you can imagine who's renting these rooms to live in for a week, a month. This is what it is... a Motel 6 right off I-95. It was clean and cheap. I arrived after 1AM so I had to do the weird check in through the glass window, which always makes it seem sketchier than it really is. But the place was clean, quiet and easy in/out. All things you need for a pit stop. I wouldn't spend a weekend here but for a quick sleep while on the road it is perfect and there are plenty of shops/restaurants/gas stations around to recharge before you get back on the road. read more

Awful!!! We stayed there last weekend, and after the first night dared to complain about not getting our room cleaned, not having the trash emptied, and having an item removed from the room. The response from the manager was "So, do you want service tonight?" We went to check in again for this weekend's stay and were told that we were now on a "Do Not Rent" list, and no one could explain to us why, and no one but the original manager (who was not present at the time) could remove us from the list. Friends of ours who were checking in at the same time were almost denied service because the desk clerk thought they might be "with us". Fruit flys, moldy bath mat that when I took it out of the tub, the cleaning people had to come back to my room & ask why I took it out & what was wrong with it. The bed feels like a bail of hay with coil springs in it. They have no form of electronic payment like Apple Pay or even typing in all my info myself because I was only in town for 2 days for a funeral & didn't bring all of my cards with me. Even booked online with all my info & when I got here they still needed an actual card. Just a huge nightmare on top of everything else already had going on. Then the staff treated me like I was going to stay in the room without paying. Just a really shady place. Hard to find, tucked away behind a restaurant, small sign. On entering the room, the toilet gave evidence of having recently been used. When we pointed this out, the desk clerk (no housekeeping was on duty at 7PM) gave us a cloth and a bottle of cleaner. The tub had water in it. Otherwise the place was clean. No micro, no fridge and a 19 inch TV- thats a throwback. But it worked OK. Wi-fi is charged at $2.99 a DAY. In these times charging for wi-fi is just chintzy. There is a second story but no elevator. Hard on those of us with bad legs. Smoking rooms are all upstairs. Beds are OK. They wont take a paid reservation til you arrive- that's a little inconvenient. Nearby in the USS Chowder Pot seafood restaurant- be sure and check it out. read more

Definitely a no frills motel experience: You get a bed, a desk/TV stand, a bedside table, a small side table, and 2 chairs. No artwork on the walls and no carpeting (as I mentioned), so it's sort of echo-y/oddly empty-feeling in the room. A nice place to stay if you're on a budget and aren't expecting much in the way of comforts or obvious cleanliness. Pros: -inexpensive -good location (convenient to stores and restaurants, a movie theatre, etc) Cons: -laminate floors were sticky/dirty, so questionable cleanliness overall. Bring slippers and shower shoes. -bare bones toiletries: just a bar of soap was provided, so bring your own. -blankets extremely thin: basically like having an extra top sheet. Oh, and it had 2 cigarette holes in it. -corridors smell strongly of cigarette smoke -noise levels from hallways travels extremely easily into the room. Heard doors slamming a lot. ***Do not bother to buy the WIFI: ours was unable to keep up with even short youtube videos, or even Facebook browsing at times. We ended up throwing away that $2.99 we spent on paid wifi only to browse on our smartphones/data plans instead. So don't buy it. read more

Front desk staff super nice. Gave us floor choice and location of room. Room was clean and tidy. Wish there had been shampoo. Soap supplied but no shampoo. Linens were a bit scratchy.. but the actually bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Slept great. Usually get a stiff neck or back when I don't sleep in my own bed. Woke up feeling fine! Check out is noon, that's a HUGE plus for anyone who likes to sleep in. For $75 a night, you really can't beat it. If you're super particular bring your own set of sheets but that's kinda a pain in the ass. I'm sure if I asked front desk they would have supplied shampoo. Being as we checked in late and this was just a place to crash and save money, it was perfect. Would totally stay again. read more

I booked this Motel 6 last minute very late at night. I just needed a place to sleep for the night and figured Motel 6 was a good option. I like the fact that they don't have dirty old carpets in the rooms anymore. When I arrived after booking it through hotels.com the gentleman at the front desk told me that they did not have any vacancy. I told him again that I had booked it through hotels.com and they confirmed my reservation, so he must have incorrect information. He said no, he didn't have incorrect information and in fact they did not have vacancy. So I got in my car drove away to try to find another hotel nearby. A few minutes later the front desk guy called me and said that he had just received my reservation from hotels.com and indeed had a room for me. I don't really get it since I told him from the beginning that I had booked it through hotels.com. He didn't try to figure it out or look it up or anything he just turned me away. So I got the room keys went to the room and went directly to bed. Within a short time there was an all-out brawl domestic dispute happening in the room directly above me. I called the front desk to complain and the same gentleman that checked me in said that he was going to go upstairs and talk to them. Half an hour goes by and the arguing did not stop. In fact it got worse. I could hear every word they said. I called the front desk back a few more times and even suggested that he call the police. Nothing ended up happening and the couple continued with their brawl for several hours. I thought to call the police myself but preferred to not get involved at that late hour. I imagined that they would stop at some point and just tried to close my eyes and get at least a little sleep. About 7 in the morning they stopped arguing and then a dog started barking constantly. If you don't know already, Motel 6 allows you to have pets in your room. These people did not try to quiet their dog at all. It continued barking for at least an hour and a half.... And then cleaning crew started. Every time they went in and and out of a room they slammed the door against the lock as they had it turned out prevent the door from closing and locking. This went on for another 2 hours. At this point I said forget it. I'm obviously not getting any sleep here. I got up and went to go take a shower. The tub was so disgusting it looked like it had not been scrubbed ever. The toilet was also filthy. The back of the toilet had all kinds of debris. It seems to me that nobody in this place really cares at all. I opened the door and I said to the house cleaning person who was standing right outside of my room, could you please not slam the doors every single time that you go in and out of a room as people are trying to sleep. I stopped for a second and looked at the floors in the bathroom and in the main area of the room. They also did not look like they had been mopped in a very long time. I grabbed all of my luggage and went to the front desk to check out and complain. There was a nice woman there who happened to be on the phone but tried to help me none the less. I told her I needed to speak to her manager and she called him in. When I explained to him what was going on he look like he didn't care at all. He asked me if I was offered to change rooms and I said no. Nobody offered that at all not during any of the five or so phone calls I had made to the front desk. He then asked me if I yelled at his cleaning staff. So clearly he knew that there was an issue with the door slamming. Somebody must have said something to him that I complained to them. He basically reprimanded me for getting upset with his staff for slamming the doors. I told him I wanted a refund and he said I had to contact Expedia where I had made the booking. I told him that I had it made the booking through hotels.Com and wanted a refund. He laughed at me and said, "good luck.". This place is filthy and the management obviously does not care. Hotels.com ended up giving me a $60 voucher to use for my next hotel stay. Clearly this hotel manager knows that he doesn't have to offer a refund as most people staying there would not repeat their experience as they don't live nearby. When I was complaining about the domestic dispute there was another guest in the lobby. She turned and asked to me which room I was staying and because she had been staying there for a couple of days already and there was a domestic dispute happening every single night near her room. Clearly these people don't do anything when there is a domestic dispute. They just let people scream and fight and argue all night long. They don't care if it's disturbing other guests. I have stayed in 20+ Motel 6s across the country and this is without a doubt the best I have been to. Hardwood floor, flat screen TV, WORKING air conditioner, plus it was clean! The curtain covered the entire window, diminishing my ability to distinguish night from day. The staff was also very friendly. The room was HUGE, honestly it was probably 1000 sqft. The bed was typical of Motel 6, do not expect anything super soft. My only complaint is that I went on a Sunday after a long day of driving and was looking forward to kicking back with a few beers and watching TV before I went to sleep, but Connecticut has a law prohibiting alcohol sales after 5 PM on Sundays. Yep, it's a Motel6. so it's basic accommodations, but I enjoyed my stay there. I stayed for almost 3 weeks while waiting for the closing on my new house, and the management did everything they could to make my stay as pleasant as possible. The reason I chose Motel 6 was that I was able to have my 2 pets in my room which was a really big deal for me. The first room they gave me had a slight mildewy smell, but they happily gave me a new room as soon as one became available (I had checked in during a busy weekend). The staff was always polite and helpful. It does get a little noisy on weekends but during the week most of the clientele seem to be travelers and business people. Over all, I had a much better experience than I expected (especially once I bought my own pillow). read more

This was an excellent place to stay during our move from Massachusetts to North Carolina with four family members, three cats, and two birds. The lady at the front desk was incredibly friendly and helpful, and we REALLY appreciated the fact that there were zero pet fees. Everything about the room was absolutely spotless: sheets, floor, bathroom, everything. Nice heavy curtains too, so you could sleep in if you needed to! No bugs or anything like that and it was very quiet, no sounds from any neighbors. The beds are blissfully comfortable. There was plenty of parking and more than enough space to park our massive 26-foot UHaul. If I had to complain it would only be about two things (and they're nitpicky -- the whole family was absolutely thrilled with our stay). First, the hallway does faintly smell of smoke, but don't worry because the rooms do not at all. Second, the water pressure left something to be desired. We got to the room around 11pm after a long day of packing up the UHaul and then a 2 hour drive, so a hot shower with good water pressure would have been the icing on the cake, but for what it's worth the great mattresses more than made up for that. Like I said, it's nitpicky. I can't recommend this place enough, especially if you're traveling with pets. Oh, and a side thing: this motel is located right across the street from a gas station with a mechanic -- something that came in VERY handy when we tried to leave in the morning and our car's hood wouldn't stay down! SO FUCKED. The second we walked in there was blood stains on the ground and bed bugs crawling on the sheets. We lifted both mattresses and one had a bag of drugs and the other a syringe. The lady at the front desk was apologetic and gave my friends and I a refund. We left so quickly I accidentally forgot my jacket hanging in the room. I called the front desk and the same lady said she would hold my jacket for me. When I came back the next morning to retrieve my jacket there was a new lady at the front desk. Immediately she was accusing me of ripping them off and saying that the drugs were mine. Not only did she accuse me of shooting up in their room, but she also threw away my fucking jacket. Are you fucking me? What a shithole. What a shit staff. This motel 6 should strictly stay open for junkies and so the second front desk lady can whither away in the scum filled lobby. read more

Totally not happy with the room. It is a no smoking room but it smells of smoke all the time. We finally found out that it shares a vent with the room above us which is a smoking room. The water pressure in the bathroom sink is almost not existent. We have to wash our hands using the bath tub faucets after using the toilet because there is not enough pressure at the sink..We were told that a maintenance man would show up this morning to look at the sink but he never did. Then we were told that the manager would be by but he never showed up either. Other people staying here are smoking MJ in the rooms and you can smell it in the hall. Also there are no drawers to put clothing just chubby holes. We have been here 7 days. They are supposed to give a discount for 7 days or more but just blew me off when I asked about it. We visit Branford often but next time will try a different hotel!! read more
