A fantastic inn that's conveniently located in Madison's center of town. Michael is the best innkeeper, host and chef, making sure you have what you need for your stay.
We booked a weekend getaway in the dead of winter and, sure enough, a winter storm was forecasted. Michael was understanding and we were able to reschedule for another weekend.
We stayed in The Town View, which is on the 2nd floor. There was a letter in our room upon arrival with information for our stay, such as WiFi password, Michael's cell phone, check out info, etc. It was a nice size room, with lots of windows, single-person jacuzzi tub with overhead shower and sitting area with a love seat, small table and chairs. The tub and bathroom are separate, which is nice when two people are getting ready. Blinds cover the windows, however, if you're a light sleeper the exterior/outdoor spotlights that shine on the windows may bother you if you need it pitch black. It didn't bother us too much - we have two kids and were just happy to enjoy the peace and quiet :) This room is a little more secluded than other 2nd floor rooms since it's the only room on the opposite side of all the others. If you're looking for more privacy, book the Madison Getaway; it's the only bedroom on the 1st floor, but one of the room's door opens to the dining room and other gathering areas.
Breakfast is served 9-10am. Self-serve coffee, tea, water, orange juice, cranberry juice, fresh fruit and a pastry are available. The 1st morning there was a Cocoa Banana Bread for the pastry. Michael served the main dish of a goat cheese frittata, chicken sausage, whole grain toast and potatoes. The 2nd morning there were Banana Pecan Muffins for the pastry, and an asparagus and cheddar omelette, English muffin and heirloom tomato and avocado salad. Both morning's were off to a great start with each delicious breakfast.
Michael made sure to sit down and talk with us and the other guests. He knows the area very well and can provide recommendations on places to go, eat and visit, depending on your interests or tastes.
We visited during winter when the daytime temps were in the 20s (windchill made it much colder) and still found things to do. After breakfast, we drove to some of the beaches, East Warf and Hammonasset. We saw plenty of people out for walks and runs, but we just stepped out for a few minutes to see the water, large rocks and snap a few photos. There is a small and kid-friendly Nature Center at Hammonasset Beach State Park with different activities/displays, like Underwater (with a touch tank) and In the Woods with snakes and turtles. It was free, had restrooms and gave us a break from the cold.
We drove to the nearby open-air Clinton outlets and did some kid-free shopping (a rare treat), before going to our lunch reservation at Chamard Vineyard/Bistro. After a delicious lunch, we parked our car back at the inn and walked the nearby "main street" with antique shops, boutiques, coffee shop and looked at restaurant menus to decide where to eat for dinner. There's also a Stop & Shop, Starbucks and CVS. Everything is within a 3-5 minute walk from the inn, very convenient.
Other things to call out - in the evening, Michael put out a cookie jar of fresh (still warm!) soft ginger cookies at the coffee and tea station and a plate of chocolates in our room next to our bed. There are wine glasses, plates, silverware and bottle openers available to use/take back to your room.
We highly recommend this inn! read more
