Do not stop here. Super gross! Dirty sheets and pillows, hair on floor and bed. Better off sleeping in your car, for real.

We are traveling along route 66 with two dogs hence the reason we are staying in Motel 6's since they accept pets. Otherwise, trust me, I would not be staying at them simply because you never know what you're going to get. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this location. The last two Motel 6's were horrible. This one was modern, updated, clean, and the AC actually worked in this one. So off we go to continue our travels and a bit nervous about what awaits us at the next Motel 6. The adventure continues...

I was hesitant about many of the less expensive motels in the Amarillo area due to poor reviews even though I frequently have stayed at Motel 6's in many areas of the country. I couldn't figure out which one was the one I had stayed at several years ago and it turned out that it had closed and moved its location to this one but I didn't know that yet. My daughters chose this one because it was one of the closer ones to the airport and it turned out to be a great choice. They put us in a handicap room because I asked for a ground-floor room. It had two double beds with a small refrigerator and microwave.I was with my two grown daughters and 6 year old grandson. We doubled up in the beds and were perfectly comfortable. The room was clean, the bathroom was huge being a handicapped room. The only downside might be that handicap rooms rarely have very much counter space. They gave us plenty of linens which was nice since there were 3 and half of us. The mattresses were comfortable, the linens were clean, the TV, microwave and refrigerator all worked great, the room was surprisingly quiet except for the freeway noise since we were close to I-40. We felt very safe and secure. We had to wake up early (4:30 a.m.!) to make it to the airport for their 6 a.m. flight. I came back to the room after I dropped them off and was able to get a couple more hours sleep before I checked out to go do some shopping and sightseeing. I researched some other motels in the area and then ended up coming back here that night and stayed several more nights because it was easier to stay someplace where I knew what it was like then to find a new place. All the front desk girls were very pleasant and friendly. There is coffee in the morning until 10 a.m. and some vending machines if you need snacks. The ice machine was in good working order. Based on my experience I can highly recommend this place if you are looking for an inexpensive motel. I think it was $50 with the senior discount for the four of us to stay the first night and has been running $44 a night for me to stay by myself. I'd rather play pay a lower price so I can spend my money on other things when I visit Amarillo. I don't need expensive thick towels or supposedly free shampoo and conditioner, which actually aren't free since they are integrated into the per night price, than to pay $80 to $120/ night just for a place to sleep.

This place is very dirty. I read the reviews and was more comfortable with staying here for a couple of hours to shower and rest, we are literally crossing the US driving so I just wanted a comfy and clean place to rest for a bit. I'll give them this, they are cheap, for $52 dollars we got a room with one bed which was enough for my husband and I. As soon as I walked in I knew is was a very simplistic place but at first it looked clean so it was ok. Five minutes inside was enough time to find pee marks on the toilet seat and hair all over the floor and also some in the bathtub. I was very annoyed by it so decided to wash my face and figure it out what to do, to my surprise -ok, not so much - I found hair on the towel as well... Well, we left and asked for our money back. We will find some place else, even if it means to pay more, after all they say you get what you paid for..lol I included picture of the bathtub and towel, totally skipped the toilet seat for it was grossing me out.

For a Motel 6, this wasn't bad at all. If I could do half stars, I'd deduct one cuz the toilet wasn't perfectly clean (it wasn't heinous, but I noticed the icky part immediately), and there were some dirty/muddy spots on the floor. Other than those two things, it was indeed very clean, which, let's face it, is about the best one can hope for at a Motel 6. And the immediate area around it leaves much to be desired. But the AC was super cold and the shower was piping hot, it was quiet and I did appreciate the bright colors; much nicer than the typical styling of "stark hospital white" usually found at this chain. It was $57 for a single, king bedroom (mattress was a little firm for my preference, but adaquate) on a Saturday night. Yup, that's how I like to party it up on a Saturday night. Jealous?? :-P

Aside from the hospitality, I am guessing the kickback hour is a big draw as well. They are also pet friendly. We were on a roadtrip to Colorado and decided to spend the night on our way back. There were 2 tour buses when we arrived and it looked like we just missed the crowd at check-in. The front desk folks were an epitome of Texas hospitality. Friendly, laid back and the ladies just made us feel so welcome. We were given 3 drink coupons each for kickback hour. Our 2 queen room on the 2nd floor didn't have much of a view but it was homey and quiet. Kickback hour was busy but staff were surprisingly very accommodating. Their margaritas will give you a buzz. They have hot food items, soup and a salad for the complimentary light dinner. For those that have not stayed at a Drury Inn before, the kickback hour is similar to Embassy Suites' evening reception, but WAY better. We slept surprisingly well, considering the hotel's proximity to the highway. We had no problems with the ac either. Breakfast was better than your typical hotel breakfast with a bunch of options. We did not get to use the other facilities because we had to head out early. This was our first time staying at a Drury property. I'm normally a Hilton and Marriott girl but I'll definitely choose Drury if there is one available in my future destinations. We also appreciate the military discount they offer. Thanks for a memorable stay!

Starlight Canyon - Mesquite room hot tub (10/9/2022)

I am the single mom who brought her kids here to share the Mesquite room on October 9-10, 2022. This bed and breakfast is located in a somewhat remote area of Amarillo, Texas. The surrounding landscape is a bit reminiscent of Palo Duro Canyon - which is just a short drive away - but not in an extreme way that the Lone Star state park yields. The view from the hot tub at 7:30PM was amazing with a glorious display of sunset colors. Robes were provided behind the bathroom door. Near the pond on the old red, white, and blue amusement park ride chair, we found a walking stick. A friendly orange Tabby cat kept returning to our front door. My 8 and 9-year-old couldn't resist petting the stray feline. We weren't crazy about the continental breakfast which comprised of a cherry turnover, Yoplait yogurt, and Tropicana apple juice so we'll pass on that if we don't stay on a morning when they offer a hot meal. Just a couple of other cons: I leave to pick up pizza in town and someone takes my spot in front of our door. Lol. Also, my stupid Sprint/T-mobile coverage was terrible here. The other accomodations definitely overrode the somewhat lacking Monday morning breakfast: quiet neighborhood, calm weather, microwave, mini fridge, iron & board, lots of programs on the TV, free Wi-Fi, walk-in shower, and private gated area with code access.

We stayed in the Pinion. The positives. It's remote and really close to Palo Duro Canyon (18 minutes) That was nice. It's about 12 minutes from the Big Texan. It's in a pretty setting. The bed was comfy. We stay at B&B's because there is a level of expectation where hospitality takes over and you feel like you were being treated like royalty. This is not that place. It almost felt like our stay was a little bit of an inconvenience. The room is small and very dated, but covered in wood plank and not very clean. A lot of dust. This particular room did not have a shower and only a bath tub with the hot water trickles out. I'm not joking. It took about 30 minutes to fill the bathtub. Tip 1. Make sure to ask if the room you are booking has a shower if you're needing a shower for medical reasons or handicap accessibility. According to one of the reviews, and in their pictures, there appeared to be a nice shower in the mesquite, but we weren't given the chance to stay there. Once you get in the room, you're given two towels for the bath and two towels for the hot tub. I uncovered the hot tub to see that the water was very cloudy and it wasn't a result of the bubbles. So I put the cover right back on. They don't give you anything with respect to toiletries when it comes to soap or shampoo or lotions or bath bomb. So it really does feel like you're not being pampered. Bed And Breakfast should always feel like you're being pampered. And inside the room, you're not giving any type of bottled water, filtered water and so you rely on the bathroom sink in the bathroom tub. Which I thought was really bad. The outside of the room was covered in Pineneedles on the walkway, and so we tracked some into a room. When we were trying to get into the door, some even to get into the wheels of our suitcase. It was kind of annoying. The area is just really dated and not well kept. However, that does give it a very rustic feel and so if you're into that kind of thing that it may suit your fancy. It does have a really cute cat that keeps you company in the random deer that you will see from time to time. Overall, I'm sure it meets the needs of a specific clientele that would enjoy that atmosphere but when I go to a bed-and-breakfast, I consider myself to be high maintenance. So they certainly could meet the need a specific individuals however, it's not a place that I would really return to .

The bed is comfortable, the linens and towels of the quality expected in a nice hotel. Physically, the place is nice. What is lacking is a customer experience commensurate with their hype. They are posers. Gone are the days, when the clerk comes from behind the counter to hand you your room key and walk you to the elevator. That used to be a Marriott trademark, but no trace of it at the Barfield. I decided to eat at the bar. Same menu as the hotel's Toscana Italian Steakhouse. Even though there were three women behind the bar, and only six other patrons, it took a while to be recognized, since the staff were all busily chit-chatting with each other. Finally, one of the women brought me a glass of bar mix. I looked at it, trying to figure out what it was. It was the consistency of large-grain salt--I would need a spoon to eat it. I asked another of the staff on her way by what it was, and, after examining it, she said, "It looks like you got the bottom of the bag." What level of mindlessness does it take to pour a glass of bar-mix crumbs, hand it to a guest, and think that's world-class? Dinner was the next disappointment. I was interested in the "Creole Tortellini," but asked if they could prepare it with any type of red sauce, instead of the cream sauce. "No problem," I was told. As I was finishing my salad, the woman returned to say they couldn't accommodate the request because "everything was already mixed together." Prepared in-kitchen earlier in the day, or in a Sysco bag, I'll never know. Next try was Steak Frites, steak done medium. It came out medium-well with cold fries. The highlight was the glass of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I ordered. The "fond farewell" I received early next morning was from the "valet." When he brought the car around, he exited the car, closed the door, and handed me the key as he walked by me while I stood at the rear of my car with my bag. He rushed back inside, leaving me standing there with his tip in my hand. Based on my experience, the Barfield wants to be a high-end hotel, but not enough to actually work at it. Not worth the premium.
